I had Pawl create a custom fabricated steel umbrella adapter for me. I have a steel tube embedded in my concrete patio which serves as a sleeve, holding up my large shade umbrella. The umbrella needed to be replaced, but none of the new ones would fit in the sleeve. I designed an adapter which would fit over my existing tube and would add an adjacent sleeve for the new umbrella. Pawl fabricated it for me. Exceptional vendor who designed and installed a workaround steel supporting bar that makes my gorgeous and timeless Italian designer glass and marble dining table that I bought from a SF Furniture showroom 30+ yrs ago look like it was manufacturer that way. My original glass top table cantilevered over 3 instead of 4 supporting points thus causing the glass top to be unstable. The glass top is very heavy so it never tipped over. But for 30 yrs, I had to religiously warn my guests to never lean over and rest their elbows on my table. Otherwise, it'll tilt the glass and scare everyone when the elbows are removed the glass makes a thud noise when it pops back to rest. The speed of SteelWerx was 1 day (or less than 24 hrs actually). I needed a steel frame to support a DIY concrete countertop pour. Given cabinet measurements are fairly precise I needed this very precise to make sure I can place it inbetween cabinets and not interfere with appliances. I wasn't sure who to go to and looking through various reviews and websites Steel Werx looked like the kind of place that could help me out. On the phone Pawl was reassuring and asked me to come in with the plans I had sketched out. I came in that morning with this very rough draft I had drawn up by hand. Pawl studied it and asked some very succinct questions that showed he entirely understood what I was trying to accomplish. He made some recommendations that I agreed to. Discussion only took about all of five minutes. Surprisingly, he said he could have it done by the afternoon! Before he finished the project he called to let me know he thought my plans had an error for what i needed and indeed he was correct. This had to do with the placement of screw holes that would have not aligned correctly with the cabinets. Again Pawl completely understood what I needed more than I did in a way because he had never seen the cabinets this frame was going inbetween. I had measured my frame out to the 16th of an inch and when I went to pick-up the finished product all the measurements came out to the 16th exactly! The price was a little higher than I had hoped it would be but in my experience craftsmanship like Pawl's is worth every penny. Pawl offered correction to make sure it was right but I didn't need it. It was right the very first time! I couldn't be more happy. This work eliminated a major headache I had with my overall project and the experience was excellent. read more

If I could give a zero I would. I am really confused how this company has such high ratings and brag about "If you can dream it we can build it" False advertisement. They may as well get rid of there phone because they literally do not ever answer it. I have attempted to contact this company an infinite number of times and they just flat out ignore every inquiry. Completely unreliable and unprofessional. It takes a moment to answer a voicemail or email. I had been planning on remodeling my kitchen and Covid shut down the project. Once things settled down and we were starting our remodel, I had this company in mind to carry out my project of custom steel cabinet doors and I've been excited to have them create it. I can't tell you how many times we attempted to call. The email address listed on there website that I sent my inquiry though was ignored, even after re-forwarding a couple times. After a couple weeks of no word my husband went straight down to the shop and the owner just quickly tossed another business card with a new email and offered up a lame excuse. We tried again with the new email a few times and never one word. This dragged on for a few more weeks until I finally accepted they just don't care about customer service and this is probably not a company you want to trust anyways, so I've moved on. Our Los Gatos Sons of Norway lodge needed to repair a metal post pole for our cook tent for our upcoming December Lutefisk event. During a recent wind storm, the metal pole bent over the connection piece. Not only was the piece crushed like a soda can, there was no way to remove the part from the connector. The piece is supposed to look like a giant bent soda straw, although this one had the appearance that looked like a giant child had crumpled a paper straw down enough that it was no longer usable. Looking at the piece, our options were limited. We considered investigating borrowing or renting a 10' X 20' tent. The canopy and sides are fine, it's just that one pole. My husband and I did the legwork, driving around with the damaged pole while another one of our members called around to see which machine shop could/would repair the pole. The first place, as kind as the owner was, lacked the resources to repair the item The second place needed to reset their machinery to do the work, but then, realized they needed a part, and it would not be ready in time. I keep in that they were nice, but this wasn't something they could fix. And then, we were told to check and see if Steel Werx could accomplish the task. My husband is greeted by their observant dog, and then he meets Pawl. In this case, Pawl offers to have it ready in an hour. We run another errand in the area. Pawl has kept his word, and we're ready for the event with the successfully repaired post. I am so grateful to Pawl Washeleski and Steel Werx for helping us out and saving not only the day, but our hall fundraiser event. read more

I have a 1996 BMW 740iL and have tried so many different people asking if they could fabricate a trailer hitch for me. All of the common manufacturers discontinued the hitch for this car and all other welders said they needed blueprints. No one is going to give away proprietary blueprints. Pawl didn't even have to look at it. He told me on the phone, "I can make anything", and he did. The end result makes me so happy. It is reinforced in two places where the common manufacturers did not reinforce it. It looks great and does not hang below the plastic so it will not scrape the ground on low entrances to driveways. Now, I don't have to buy another vehicle to pull my small motorcycle trailer. That saves me thousands. I will be back with other projects which other welders have told me they cannot do also. Needed a custom stove trim made. Not a huge job, but tricky. We bought a new range/stove, and as we removed the old unit we discovered hidden issues with one of the cuts in our granite. No regular trim kit would cover it. We needed a custom trim made. Steel Werx delivered. I have been working on a locomotive project and my normal fabricator was unavailable so after reading the 5 star reviews, I decided to give these guys a try. Initially I thought cool I'd be apart of the process and guide them exactly how I wanted it done but in the end it wasn't the case. At first the end result looked off but fine to me and actually had to be redone but there were many sharp edges, and bad welding/metalworking. $600 out the window. I should have pushed to be there as it was being done but didn't because well I was afraid it wasn't going to be so I trusted they knew what they were doing with my project but actually had no clue. Beware when it comes to your project and push to be there to keep an eye on it! read more

We had the absolutely worst experience with this shop. Company I work for had a very simple need to have a couple of simple RECTANGULAR holes cut in a very expensive ($1800) /brand new NEMA rated enclosure for an industrial automation project. Steel werks told me that they could definitely do it, and that it would cost $150. I was skeptical when I looked at the condition of their shop, and when I realized that they had no idea what a 2D or 3D CAD drawing was (Step fie), they told me to just draw it up on a paper and give it to them! But I figured how possibly could someone in the business of "steel werks" screw up cutting a simple rectangular hole in a metal box. I was gravely wrong (see the attached photos). Despite telling me that they'd do the job within a day or two, these guys first kept our enclosure for THREE weeks without doing anything whatsoever and they kept blowing me off with nonsense excuses every time I called to check. They even had ripped apart the brand new enclosure packaging cardboard box (see photo) to use it on something else, while our enclosure sat around OPEN in their dirty/dusty shop!!! Who does that? We could no longer use it to repackage our box. Then finally when I got fed up and went there to pick up our enclosure, they told me that they'd do the job right then even though I told them not to bother, and one of them started chopping off metal on the WRONG side of the box with his angle grinder and broke his cutoff wheel. He didn't have another cutoff wheel handy so they made me wait another 40 minutes while he went to home depot (just down the street, less than one-fourth of a mile) to buy a cutoff wheel. Once he returned, he restarted cutting the hole, now on the correct side but while cutting a larger hole he slipped his angle grinder which made a huge deep scratch on our brand new enclosure (see photo). He then somehow made a crooked and nightmarish hole, did not deburr or clean at all either. Then he demanded $150 for barely a couple of minutes of his absolute hack job. These unprofessional individuals also had a bunch of very large pit-bulls freely running around the shop. We paid them $150 to get our enclosure back, but turns out that we could not longer use it with the huge scratch and crooked holes anyway, the holes wouldn't seal around our connectors, so we had to purchase another enclosure and have a local store (Buckles Smith) laser cut modifications within a day turn around for a couple of hundred dollars! My company didn't want to sue these guys in a court over a couple of thousand dollars loss, so they wrote off the loss, but if you're an individual customer or a small business, don't get yourself into a nightmare. read more

It's important that you understand what you're getting when you work with Steel Werx. So -- if you're looking for a Silicon-Valley office-like, computer-controlled water-jet cutting white-painted office... this is NOT the place for you. You'd give it 1-2 stars and be very annoyed. Steel Werx -- specifically Pawl -- are artists. As Pawl's business card says, "dream materializers" -- you sketch it on a napkin or wave your hands in the air, and they'll build it. SO, if you're comfortable with that, these guys are the best. In my situation, my father in law was in the final stages of cancer. He had been a mechanical engineer his whole life, and his last sketch was of a fireplace door for an impossible fireplace (someone else had built it, it was unevenly arched, and canted backwards too. Stupid and bad.) I handed Pawl & Rob a foamcore prototype I'd slapped together, and my FiL's drawings. The team tolerated my repeated visits to the shop, mid-course changes, and general emotionally charged state (not good). I was able to show my FiL the final framing and door the night before he slipped into a final coma (he was amused at the 'indestructible' level of steel used), and every time I look at the door (see pix) I think of him. Little bit of a back story, on Halloween I was working at the fire house when we got a fire, so I quickly undressed from my station uniform and threw on my fire pants. After the fire I went to go change back into my regular station uniform and I notice my belt buckle broke. I called up Steel Werx and asked if this was too small a job for them to do. Great work for my inflatable boat. I need steel mounting brackets welding to the side rail of the boat, to support some heavy downrigger gears. Professionally done.
