If I could give zero stars I would. I love Steak N Shake and had a craving. Took them 15 minutes to even take my order in the drive thru. Oh, and they didn't have ice cream! There were 3 cars in the parking lot total. When I got my food, all of my sauce was on top of the burger bun and they gave me a ripped up fry container. Sadly to us it's the demise of a good old American tradition! No table service now. Order at a kiosk after lining up for a free one (3 on site, one out of order), asked if we want to leave a tip????, no ink in the printer so blank receipt so no idea of order number, pick up food at counter (eventually), clear your own table! First timer to the stem n shake. Seen them everywhere, and decided to try it out. This is a full service hosted waiter style restaurant. My waiter was courteous and offered good suggestions. This place is honestly the worst steak and shake in all of Illinois among all of the accountabilities of being a fast food/ sit down restaurant. They take forever to actually even start cooking your food and their usual excuse is how busy they are, I guess with the same orders for a whole hour long. Often times I find the floor sticky or covered with something at the booth/ table I am seated at and find it very discomforting when I walk out with my foot sticking to the floor! We went to Steak & Shake today and it was the nastiest one I have ever been in!!! The food was so so and had to send my tea back because it had some black things floating in it. I was just hoping I would not get sick! We looked around and it looked as if it had hardly ever been cleaned! We quit going to the Morton one because of food and horrible service. We tried the drive through before they reopened the sit down portion of the dining room. It was decent. Thought we would give the dining room a try today. First off, when you order a hamburger does it mean cheese burger in Illinois? Had no idea my hamburger would be a cheese burger. I don't eat American cheese. Scrapped the cheese off my burger. JEEZ LOUIS!!!! i ordered 8 burgers, they all came out within 20 minutes of paying and it felt like 5 minutes because i was playing with the arcade machines out front (i won a bouncy ball). unfortunately i didn't win anything. i only ordered 1 shake. however it only took about 5 minutes. the staff was very friendly even though have no social skills they made feel at home. the food was fresh and left a pleasant taste in my mouth, the bun of my burger was like the soft squishy clouds floating on this beautiful earth. all in all i had an absolutely terrible experience. all in all i will not be back and all in all you will not take anymore of my money. all in all i want my money from the arcade machine.!!! read more

I'd give zero stars if not because of their friendly older lady waitress who tried her best. The kitchen staff messed up all our order , had us waited for 45min to serve our meal and forgot all about our milk shakes. We asked our waitress they told her from the kitchen it's on the making After 30min the waitress came back and told us no one was actually making the milk shakes so she'll have to make it herself. I love Steak N Shake! The food is definitely greasy and fatty so if you're a health nut... You won't find much you'd like here! My fav is the chilimac supreme, hands down. It's like spaghetti and chili supreme (with cheese and onions) mixed together. I also love their strawberry smoothie (made with real strawberries). This particular Steak N Shake is pretty good. It's newer so cleaner than some places. I find that the further down south you find a Steak N Shake, the better the service (like in MO). Central IL Steak N Shakes are pretty slow in general unless you go during off-hours. So expect a wait during peak hours. read more

Pros: Relatively cheap. Frisco melt was very good, with rich, buttery sourdough Cons: Very slow service considering it was after the dinner rush hour - we waited 30+ minutes for food. Place feels sticky all-over. Besides the aforementioned Frisco melt, the food was only so-so. The wait, on the other hand, was excruciating. Considering there was only one other table awaiting service, we still had to wait 30+ minutes for some burgers and fries. But what really irritated me was that I ordered seasoned fries - sea salt with peppers; on the recommendation of the waiter. Instead, I got regular fries. When I told the waiter, he took my plate and promised to bring me back the correct order. When I got my plate back, I can plainly see that they were the same fries, but with a dusting of pepper haphazardly sprinkled on top. They didn't even cared enough to perhaps put the fries in a bowl and shake it up a bit with the pepper. When I again called the waiter over, he admitted that these were indeed the same fries. I asked why did I need to ask for seasoned fries when I can as easily pick up the pepper shaker at my table and do the same thing. He stammered and said that he'll give me a new order. Disgusted, I told him to remove the darn 29 cents (extra charge for seasoned fries) on principle, which he complied. Definitely not going back. read more

What a disappointment this Steak n Shake was. There's a few reasons why I avoid Steak 'n Shakes in general: poor service, long wait-times, and below average food. The convenience of the restaurant is that it's open 24 hours. But it doesn't matter if there's 3 tables or 30 tables, you will be waiting a long time for your food and it will be cold. My friends and I are used to this so we decided to just order milkshakes. We wished we would have brought in our mailer coupons because it was not worth the $13 we spent for 3 shakes. We were the first to arrive out of three tables and our shakes came out last out of all of the orders. The menu is now oversized to show more pictures but it has lost quite a few items and is actually smaller. The server was very friendly and kind when she was available which was when she seated us, took our orders, and left us our shakes/drinks/receipt. No follow-up and our waters were never refilled. The atmosphere was very unprofessional with the coworkers yelling loudly and obnoxiously at each other about orders. And not in the busy diner type of way, it was more like a "I hate being here" type of way. To add insult to injury, I left a $3.05 (23%) tip for the server who told her coworkers loudly as I left, "they gave $2." The only reason I gave this place two stars was for the shakes. Are you kidding me! Sat in line waiting to take my order at the menu board for 20 minutes!!! Then got to the window and they still had to ask me what I wanted on my burger! I told them umpteen times over the intercom. So I told them again, I ordered one meal and one kids meal and one specialty shake!
