Moments ago, we arrived at the drive through eight minutes before this Steak 'n Shake location closed and had two or three vehicles in front of us. We pulled up to the speaker at exactly 12 o'clock, when they close, and the workers were completely unresponsive and continued to ignore us when we pulled up to the window hoping for a bit of grace as we had waited for over ten minutes at this point. This is not the first negative experience we have had with this location, and we highly recommend it be avoided in favor of the other Steak n' Shakes in the area. read more

I always look forward a cheeseburger and fries at this chain. For those of us who love skinny fries, these are usually the best around. This trip was underwhelming. The burger could win a contest for the skinniest burger and the fries were under cooked. Add that to the rather sketchy neighborhood (yes even at 1pm,) I'd have to recommend you drive on past this one. read more

Had take out from the University Street location last night. Our food was Almost ready when we got there. It was very good and not sloppily put together. I was impressed from the times we had been there before. The parking lot and inside was very clean. I hope they keep it up. read more

Food was good it's basically self service on the inside .You have to use a kiosk to order from .There's 4 3 debit card ones and one cash machine one .There we're 5 different orders so it took some time . There was 3 people working inside .I liked it better when they had wait staff. read more

Consistency if the thing for Steak 'n Shake. The service was great, we placed our ordered quickly, and they arrived quickly, were warm and correct. It's a hometown favorite for me, but I don't eat there often because I prefer to eat vegan. It's traditional burgers and fries. Didn't get a milkshake, but honestly this is the place to go for a great shake. Get the Hershey's Dark Chocolate shake because it includes Hershey syrup and it's not just chocolate ice cream with milk. It was clean and fairly busy during lunch time. read more

Why is this place even a place? Never in my wildest dreams would I have gone there, but my 95 year old Grandmother really wanted to take me there, so what can I say? She's 95 she can eat whatever she wants to in my opinion. It was...well it wasn't White Castle. The floors were slushy, but there was no snow. Hmmm Nothing on either of our plates should have been thought of as food. Amazing what we can talk ourselves into beleiveing. What was important was my Grandma, bless her heart, was so happy to be having her Strawberry Shake with me and that made me happy. read more

Crappiest service I've ever had but the food wasn't too bad. Immediately after being seated, I could tell my waitress did not want to service us. She had a bad attitude and took forever with our drinks and orders. Took about 15-20 minutes to get soda and waters. Then 20 minutes to get our food and the entire time was looking at us like we were scum. We did absolutely nothing to make her think we were bad people too. We just went in, sat down, and she came to us like she didn't want our table. The food was good. The burgers were big compared to the price, the fries were good too. I have not complaints about the food, they have lots of choices to choose from on the menu. Service just sucked. I tried to be really nice to her but she still didn't budge :/ read more

Chili Mac was awash in red grease, would not refund, offered to make me a new, not greasy chili mac

If I could give negative stars I would. I'm not one to return food or anything like that. If I don't get what I order I either try to fix it if I get something I don't want...my thing is I hate onions, we all hate onions at my house.... If I can't fix it I throw it away and go without. The last dozen times every order has been wrong. This time I was ordering for more than myself and it was once again all wrong. The staff there blew me off and treated me like I got what I ordered when I didn't. The manager said they are all new. Why aren't things being monitored and checked?? I was told all burgers come with onion but I asked for no onion. No one wanted onion. I return the fries as well since they would be cold after going home and returning for the burgers to be remade. They just put the cold fries back in the bag. I just threw it all away and we went and ordered someplace else. I'll never eat here ever again. It's been a complete waste of money the last several times. I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more

I now avoid this University location. The food is just not up to par for Steak n Shake. Doughy onion rings. Tasteless burgers. Limp french fries. No cherry or whipped cream on the shake. Slowwwww... I went to dinner with my wife and father and wait is bad as far a getting food. They only have one person running around to serve food and the others only bring drinks. Our order was not correct. They swapped our food with each other. Manners was not professional at all. They do not wash their hands after they bus the tables.. remember we dined inside so when we ordered their special shakes we thought they would come in a glassware but nope a to go cups is what we got. Worst. Service. Ever. Slow, incompetent, and not very friendly. I was at the drive thru waiting for several minutes trying to get someone's attention when I finally heard someone say "How do you know if anyone's there?". Disgusting bathroom. Looks like someone pleasured themselves all over the tp holder. Service was extremely slow although waitress was nice enough to customers. Went through the drive thru and got the taco salad for the first time. I was very impressed how big it was for $3.99. The lettuce was crisp and the taco meat wasnt too greasy or overpowering with spice. I liked all the shredded taco chips on top with the flavorful ranch, i guess is what it was, drizzled on the top. I have fond midnight memories of this place in high school. Loved the fries and milkshakes. That said, the most memorable night was when a particular waitress ignored our table for well over a half hour (the place was near empty). She was rude and obnoxious. We asked for something politely, she replied with a snotty remark. I remember my buddy leaving her a 2 cent tip stuffed in the cheese oozing out from what remained of the cheese fries. I don't know who's running this place but yikes... they have a paper sign on the drive through that says "cash only" which is pretty inconvenient if you've already waited 20+ minutes in line and have to leave because there are no other signs letting you know until you are right up to order. Also the woman at the window was looking....probably high, very unhappy to see you, wasn't wearing a uniform, and had NO mask on. Just trust me when I say you should take the extra 10-15 minutes to go to one of the other steak n shakes, this place is always a mess. read more

Good chain restaurant, but this one was abbot disappointing. Two things the fries were very salty and was hard to finish, and the Handy Cap parking spot in the front of the building is very difficult for people that are getting out on the side of closest to the building. There is no ramp on that side. It is crazy to have physically disabled people to get out of the car that side and have to walk or wheel completely around their car just to get in the building. I doubt this restaurant will fix this problem in the future. So if you have disabled people riding in the passenger side of your vehicle you would have to back in the parking space. read more

I visit this location periodically on my lunch breaks. Most of the time the food is very fresh. Drive through wait times are longer than normal fast food, but very worth the wait. read more

This Steak 'n Shake is the worst burger place I have ever been too. The drive thru took way to long for just an order of 2 burgers and 2 shakes. We waited in line for 30 min and there was only one car in front of us that also ordered only one meal. The burgers had no toppings not even ketchup and they were cold. My experience here was horrible. I pulled up to the drive-thru and had ordered a shake with my meal. The top was loose, so it popped off, which allowed the paper cup to give way and the shake spilled all over me and the inside of the door of my car. The attendant have me towels, but only after my assuming for them. I had to pull away from the drive-thru in order to open my door to clean myself and my car off. Meanwhile, no one came out to help even though no one was immediately behind me. I walked up to the drive-thru and had to ask for more paper towels... Twice. Still no one came out to help or give me my food, for which I already paid. So, I enter the restaurant, obviously with ice cream still stained on my pants, and a handful of towels. The manager walked right past me, and then I asked for the manger, so he told me who he was. Then I asked for a refund. Then a very rude co-worker says: "we are not authorized to give refunds" as she goes back to her cash register, which she continued to do for quite a while. So, I was pretty upset by this time. I mentored that pants might be ruined, etc. No reaction by the manager or anyone. Two other customers walked in angry, and the rude employee basically blew them off. The second customer says to me, "I think they need to clean this place out and get new people". Anyway, I had to wait for them to make another shake for me, even though 15 minutes had passed since the spill. They couldn't even make the shake after the incident, until I came in and yelled at them, which I finally felt was necessary due to the fact that as I stood at the counter, the manger walked away from me and started cooking food, saying nothing at all to me. My advice from me and I'm sure from the other two angry people is... Don't eat here at all! Unless a Steak and Shake is the only restaurant for 100 miles, I won't darken their doors ever again, and I will advise others to do the same. read more

if i could give this steak 'n shake less than 1 star i would. i went here and the staff was very rude to begin with. we came in to order takeout for JUST milk shakes and it took almost an hour to get MILKSHAKES. we reminded the staff and asked where they were and they said they were being made and not once did we hear a blender go off. this was also at 10 o'clock at night and it wasn't even busy. very disappointed in this steak 'n shake and i will not come back. read more

The place is my first experience with a Steak and Shake chain. It's a dump compared to the ones I've been to elswhere. I don't particuliarly like the fires (shoestring). The burgers are okay, better than McDonalds. The chili 3 way and 5 way are okay, not as good as Skyline. read more
