Absolutely dead inside the restaurant & we still got terrible service. Our food wasn't called out to let us know when it was ready. A server had to come & tell us after the fact. She was rude and bossy about it. Food was subpar but the worst thing was the service. The attitude of all of the staff was unreasonable. In the middle of my meal, there was a loud argument between an older customer & the manager. They were yelling at each other and being very rude in the middle of the restaurant. Just had the worst meal/restaurant experience at Pekin, IL Steak n Shake. No more wait staff or cashier. 4 kiosks, the cash one not working. People that ordered after me were done with their meals before I even got my to go order. I told the manager that I no longer wanted my order and he said he couldn't give me a refund, that he wasn't allowed. The bag of food was put on the counter without my shakes. By the time the shakes came, the food was well on it's way to cold. I ordered the shakes with no whip, and they came out with the whip scraped off and lingering around the edges. Disgusting. Wow! The only words that can come out of my mouth right now. The place was truly magnificent. My friend initially recommended this place and I had to stop by. It was a cold, rainy night and I saw the dim lights just down the street. At first it seemed to be a regular old Steak N Shake but boy was I wrong. As I entered the doors a nice man greeted me and took my wet rain coat and put into dry cleaning. There was a small line but they were very efficient with their workers and make sure everything runs smoothly. My food was cooked and delivered in less that 3 minutes and it was still hot. When I took the first bite it was truly magnificent. Now I'm no Buddhist but you could say I entered Samsara right in that moment. Absolutely wonderful place would give a 6/5 if possible. read more

Used to be able to go in and get friendly service now you're greeted with a self-serve screen . And snot nose colored haired nose ring overweight youth . They have taken what used to be a place where people could go to work and take pride in their job get good service and Hospitality from them . Used to be enjoyable . Disgusting the bathroom looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a year. Toilet has black stuff growing in it. Looks like the floor hasn't been cleaned in about the same time. The customer service was absolute crap. They couldn't even put the sauces I ordered on my tray and upon going up to tell them they hid in the back. The people that called for the customers names to get food had no enthusiasm as if they just didn't care weather they have there job or not. Then when you go looking to say something to them about them forgetting something they hide in back. Definitely don't order cheese fries cause all you'll get is fries with no cheese. I ordered cheese fries for everyone at my table and not one even got cheese on them. They don't come out to clean tables and empty trash the place looks like they just don't care weather it's open or not and weather it's clean or not l. The bottoms of the tables have ketchup and god knows what on the bottom of them. Will not be returning and would advise everyone to steer clear if you value your money and health. read more

Very inconsistent. Every once in while the food is very good. Almost every time that we go, the food is cold, it does taste good though. Something that annoys my sister and I, is that their chili sizes are always changing. The bowls used to be tiny, then big. We figured that they would still be big, so we got 2 bowls of chili and a medium fry to split. To our disappointment, the bowl were, once again, small. I have attempted to dine at this locations on several occasions. Every time I come in there is at LEAST 10 to 15 tables covered with drinks and food that haven't been cleaned. The FEW times I have been seated I have waited over an hour for drink orders and ended up leaving in that time. Poorly staffed and poor service, shut this place down. read more

Ordered 2 shakes to go during happy hour. Waited 20 mins and finally complained to someone. They had been sitting in the back the whole time. Watered down now, the servers will ask if you've been helped but won't ask what your waiting on or deliver anything to to go customers that's not THEIR customer. Shakes are good though. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. We came in on a Friday night after leaving the pekin dome. The place was NOT that busy at all. Took several minutes to be greeted at the door. Then had to wait while a table was cleaned. Even though I'm starving, I'm still not annoyed yet. Get to a table (party of 4), waited several minutes longer than acceptable for a server to appear. The server took our entire order. Then we wait. And we wait. We all ordered chili but it never came. Also, at no fault of the restaurant the 4 13-14 year old kids at the table next to us by themselves were so obnoxious I could hardly stand it. Our server (that took our order) is in the kitchen at this point getting orders put in the window. Guess that's why we don't get our chili. Finally an hour later our food comes..sans chili. I said "we all ordered chili and never got it" to which the server (a new female we hadn't seen until now) says "oh. So do you want me to bring it out then?" After all of us staring at each other dumbfounded we said "uh, yeah". Got our chili, she almost spilled one cup on my child. And that was the last time we saw an employee of any sort. No refills, no how is your food, no would you like dessert? Nothing. Go to the register, server there says "how was everything?" I say "honestly, it was terrible. He said "oh.
