    Really thin Frisco burger
    Tony R.

Its been years since I've been to a S&S. Didn't know they served breakfast. Burgers never look like they do on the menu. I ordered the Frisco Burger which looks so big on the menu but looked like a car ran over it and backed up and drove over it again. Fries are just eh but the sweet tea is a good value for a buck. Shakes are pretty good, but I thought just a tad thin. wait staff is attentive but could use some help at the register as we stood there for ten minutes waiting to pay.

Good solid S&S located on the main drag in Gastonia. I've been here multiple times and the experience has always been good. The burgers are great and the shoe string fries are classic. My son always loves to wear the free line-cooks hat and destroys his junior shake within a minute. I don't know why but every time I order a shake at the end of the meal it takes way longer than it should to get it. The other negative is if your coming down from Cox road you have to make a U turn at the light to get to this one. But overall it's a good place to grab a bite to eat.

Sadly, my craving for Steak 'n Shake was not satisfied at this location. The burgers were greasy & not even in a patty shape because of how thinly they had been pressed out. I love their fries, but they couldn't save this poor meal. One very nice waitress came to take our drink orders and when she came back with our drinks another old bat waitress came up & basically told the girl she wasn't taking the table. That was sad, because the old bat waitress was crappy & rude. At one point the waitress made a lady sitting nearby move her seat so that she could take one half of the table from her to make a whole table for someone else. This was an issue because she could have taken our half table because we weren't using it...well, then she took our table, but didn't even say anything. Overall, I'd skip this Steak n' Shake because if that's what you're craving - you will be disappointed.

I have loved this since my first visit 10 years ago. There is no other place I have found that offer the quality of meals for any family at the value of Steak and Shake, me and my family drive about 40 miles to eat here and I truly would love to own a franchise if this company ever sold franchise. In every location I have ate from the food is always consistent and I have always been greated with a friendly smile and polite person upon entry. This isn't a 5 star steakhouse but its most definitely a 5 star fast food drive thru if that's even possible.

I'm like here every day because I have no job. Nevermind I'm kidding I have a job.

Mind you, two other cars had ordered and moved to the window from the second lane before we moved over into it. Once we got into the second lane, nothing was said to us at all. Instead, now someone was taking the car sitting in the first lanes order and we sat in the second lane, in silence, for another 10 mins. We ultimately decided to just pull up to the window and tell them our orders and let them know that no one serviced us at all in the second lane. The employee claimed that she was saying "hello" the whole time as if we were ignoring her, but there was literally no sound come from the ordering board speaker at all! After we place our order at the pick up window, we were told to go park on the side of the building where we waited almost 30 mins! We went inside to check on our order status and learned that no one had fixed our order at all??? Once we did finally get our food, yes it was freshly made and hot, but I had no appetite for it at all anymore. Service was HORRIBLE! My overall rate of experience : 0/10

Optimist Hall itself is a very food-centric, upscale food hall with a ton of vendors, so the atmosphere is energetic and fun. Seating can be a little challenging during peak dinner hours since so many people are grabbing food from different spots, but when the weather is nice there's plenty of outdoor seating. Harriet's keeps their burger formula refreshingly simple. It's a classic smash burger done right--made to order with a straightforward menu that doesn't overcomplicate things. There's usually a line, but it moves pretty quickly, and the burgers come out hot and fresh. One of the best parts of eating here is the flexibility of the food hall experience. While you're waiting, you can grab a craft beer, a glass of wine, or even browse for dessert from one of the other vendors. Insider tip: Come with a group if you can. It's a great place to share fries and let everyone explore different vendors around the hall. Parking is fairly easy with the nearby garage, which makes the whole experience even more convenient. Overall, Harriet's is a fun, delicious stop for a smash burger, especially if you're already enjoying the energy of Optimist Hall.

I live super close to Optimist Hall, so it's been on my radar for a while. This particular night I wasn't feeling great, so I DoorDashed instead of dining in. I ordered the Royale with crispy fries and let me just say... I get it. The burger was genuinely impressive. The quality of the beef stood out immediately. Juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The meat to bun ratio was spot on, which is crucial. Nothing worse than a bread heavy burger. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, the build was balanced, and even after delivery, everything held up beautifully. So far I've tried two burger spots in Charlotte, and this one takes the top spot. I'm not ready to declare it the best in the entire city just yet because my burger tour is ongoing, but right now it's leading the race. I'll definitely be going to Optimist Hall soon to try it fresh off the grill and experience the service and atmosphere firsthand. Expect an update. But based on this first round alone, Harriet's is absolutely worth the order. Burger lovers, this one deserves a try.

As a West Coast transplant now living in Charlotte, I have very specific standards when it comes to…read moreburgers. For me, the gold standard isn't fancy -- it's balance. Think that perfect meat-cheese-bread ratio you get at an In-N-Out: not too big, not too messy, not dripping everywhere, but still juicy and satisfying. A burger you can actually pick up and enjoy without resorting to a knife and fork like George Costanza. That's why I appreciate Ace No. 3. Their menu is refreshingly simple -- burgers, fries, shakes -- and that simplicity tells me they know exactly what they do well. Everything is made to order, and the consistency shows. The Ace burger is my go-to, and it delivers every time. The shoestring fries are excellent, and the sweet potato tots are another favorite. I've also treated myself to a milkshake here and there, and they're worth it. Fun bonus: they offer "boozy shakes" for adults, which adds a playful twist -- just note they have to be enjoyed on site. They also keep a short, rotating list of beers, which I appreciate. It's curated, not overwhelming. One thing I noticed recently -- and as a fellow marketer, I have to applaud this -- is their milkshake happy hour from 2-4 PM. That's a smart strategy to drive traffic during slower hours between lunch and dinner. Simple, effective, and well executed. A few practical notes: Parking can be a little tight because the lot behind the restaurant is small, but if you go during off-peak hours or order ahead for pickup, it's manageable. The Belmont neighborhood location is easy to get in and out of, and while it's not a high-traffic pedestrian area, that can actually work in your favor. Bottom line: As someone who grew up with West Coast burger culture, this is the closest I've found in Charlotte to that classic, satisfying bite -- even if it costs a bit more than In-N-Out. The quality and execution make it worth it. Get out there, eat well, be curious -- and follow me as I continue eating my way through Charlotte.

Webb Custom Kitchen - Gastonia 10:45am Mothers Day…read more My son asked me where I wanted to go for Mother's Day. I had been to Webb a few times. I thought he would enjoy the theme, environment/vibe so that was my suggestion! Of course they didn't let us down lol! He was looking up the movie that was playing on the screen with Barbara Stanwick and a young Kirk Douglas. We loved the music they had playing as well so many memories wow what a throwback! We were seated upstairs and had a wonderful view of the screen, not to mention the activities in the kitchen down below. Really it's the best seat if you call for reservations! We ordered off of the brunch menu for main dishes, I told him he absolutely had to try a couple of the appetizers! We had fried green tomatoes, and the angry lobster to start. Both were absolutely wonderful and exactly what I expected so definitely consistent. We ordered two Benedict dishes. I got the crabcake Benedict and he got the eggs with ham. Everything was very good, but when it comes to crabcakes, I can't lie. Nothing compares to 131 main so the size of the Crabcakes - I was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong. They were fresh, but too thin and the flavor and texture were not to my personal preference. The crab kind of got lost in all the other ingredients. I would definitely try a different dish next time. I ordered a side of bacon, perfectly cooked and great flavor. Along with the side of their mac & cheese, which has always been a favorite. I love the combination of cheeses that they use. It's such a treat! Lastly, we had to have their Parmesan truffle fries. Again consistent, excellent! They are always busy so reservations are required versus recommended to be honest. But we parked for free across the street because we were there early. Sadly, neither one of us had room for dessert, but their desserts are so good and the helpings are huge. Maybe next time!
