It's been awhile since I've written a one-star review. I hesitate to leave them, but there was nothing about this location that left me wanting to come back. We came through the drive-thru on Saturday prior to an afternoon at Salato. Thought it would be a quick, delicious meal and turned out to be a flavorless hassle. We ordered: garlic steak burger with fries, a single steakburger with fries, chicken tenders (with fries, coleslaw, and a cookie), and two shakes. After getting our shakes through the window, we were asked to pull ahead into a spot and wait for the rest of our meal. Not a problem. A few minutes later, our meal is brought out to us. We decided to stay in the parking lot for a bit before driving to Salato..... I'm really glad we stayed. Inside the bag we noticed one container of fries was missing. Husband went in to get it. Then we noticed the cookie was missing. Husband went back inside to get one. The food? Bland. Normally, I devour Steak N Shake french fries. These fries? They had no flavor. They were warm and cooked, but not the same addictive fries I'm used to. Husband agreed. All of our fries were blah. Maybe they forgot to put salt/something on them? Meh. My burger was lukewarm, and I couldn't even taste/notice the burger in the pile of toppings. My husband wasn't fond of his either. Terrible. First time I've had it since the beginning of the pandemic. Used DoorDash. The whole meal was cold. Fries were tough, bun on burger was stale, meat was definitely not fresh, and the large Coke was the flattest I've ever had. The chilli container opened in the bag and spilled. This one was a tough one. We waited to be seated and then waited over 10 -15 mins for someone to see we were there. Amanda our waitress, or well the one who decided to help us was super friendly. Her level of service was a 5, the food was a 2-3 and the facility was a 1-2. They were obviously short staffed this this night we visited. We came in around 7:00 on a Saturday night. Yes, the bathrooms are dirty, like all the reviews say, but I made sure my family did not even think about using the restroom. I was shocked by the unorganized servers. One walked by complaining about rude customers and that she was such a great server. Another server walked by in slides, yes slides for shoes. How is that even safe or clean. We've been in Kentucky just over a year now and we've run across Steak & Shake in a few places, but have never gone in. This Friday, after running a few quick errands, Hubs and I decided to skip cooking and give them a go. It was not what I expected. It's a real sit down and eat joint! They did have a drive through, and I saw people do carry out orders, but we opted to take a seat and be served, since we had no idea what the menu looked like. The decor of the place is kinda 50s diner-ish... Male servers looking nerdy in their bowties, neon signs, chrome, and leather. The menu was quite extensive in the burger department, strictly American fare... and the prices were descent. Hubs got the Garlic Burger, and I got the Footlong Chili Dog. Service was pleasant and pretty quick considering the place was packed. While we both agreed the food was good, our meals were served on annoyingly small plates. Maybe this is their "thing", but when my food is hanging off my plate and every time I move something my fries spill out all over the (hopefully clean) table... the plate is too damn small! But, overall, Hubs enjoyed his burger. He thought the meal a bit small... we saw other tables ordering multiple hamburgers, so, maybe that's the way to go if you're real hungry. I, myself, found my meal more than filling as I wasn't that hungry, but really didn't love the chili. My own thing, I know.. I just don't like "Cincinnati Chili"... sorry. And I should have known that's what it was 'cause you can order it on spaghetti... a telltale sign. But $13 for us both for dinner, ain't half bad... Delicious shake probably for two! The Cheese sauce gives your fries that something special. My steak butter burger was fresh and tasty. As a warning to those not familiar with this entree. The hubby and I eat here every so often when we need a night out of the kitchen. The prices are very reasonable and we enjoy the food after trying to eat healthy at home, lol! Tonight our server Tina greeted us at the door and seated us promptly. We ordered a double steak burger combo and a grilled chicken taco salad. The food was delivered 4 minutes after the time printed on the ticket, or about 10 minutes after we arrived, and the restaurant was about 2/3 full. Tina kept hubby supplied with Coke Zero, brought salsa on the side for the salad, and checked back with us to see if we needed anything else. The restaurant and the men's restroom were clean. Still understaffed. Friday night at 1:00 am it was staffed by two women, and one of the women's daughters jumped behind the counter to help out. I don't know if she was employed there or not. I sat at the counter so I could watch it all happening. The restaurant had 1 other table filled. I ordered a double cheese burger, no onion, no ketchup, fries and vanilla shake. I repeated no"no onion, no ketchup", because she repeated my order back WRONG. The women were trying to take orders without writing the orders down or entering them in the system. Of course, they were forgetting items, customers were coming in from the drive thru, etc. WHY NOT WRITE IT DOWN?!?!? Maybe they were scamming the system, I don't know, just guessing. They kept saying, "they guy at the high counter hasn't gotten his food yet!" Then "He gets a double all the way!" I chimed in "No onion, no ketchup!" "Right ! no onion, no ketchup." This conversation was repeated again 5 minutes later so I had said "No onion, no ketchup" 4 times. After 40 minutes, she brought out my burger, of course, with ketchup. I said, "I don't like ketchup." She said "YOU SAID NO ONION, NO TOMATO!" I said , "No, I said no onion, no ketchup 4 times!" and I left. I never got my shake. read more

I am very happy with this Steak n Shake location. This is one of the only 24 hours restaurants in Frankfort. The food is excellent. I got the garlic cheese burger with fries. I was not disappointed. While I was standing there I noticed a stack of maybe 10 pre cooked burger patties hanging out on top of a counter. Not in a cold/hot area. Didn't really think much of it until a cook came over, grabbed patties and made someone's order. THIS PLACE IS FILTHY!!! I have made this complaint about most of their stores here in Ky. But this one is truly in a state of disgusting! The food came as we were noticing the state if the floors and such being dirty and stained. Can honestly say this was the shortest time we have ever waited on food here! So we pull forward and we've waited 15 minutes, so we went inside and they threw our ticket out the window! So they had to remake our order and other people were complaining also. Why not serve fresh french fries to late night (9:00) customers rather than face the wrath of this review? It is not that hard and certainly not that expensive. We also got one of those big portion/little portion candid camera jokes. Our waiter, John, did get a fresh plate of chicken fingers (with portion control), but the request for hot fries was answered with warmer old fries (not his fault). John mentioned that the original plate didn't look right, which earned this review another star. Steakburgers were good, and the fresh fingers were satisfactory. The server ran from table to table and just couldn't keep up with taking orders, cleaning tables, running food or getting refills. He had no help and was doing everything himself. I witnessed table after table complain about wait time and no food...... our food finally came and my bun tasted like a heath bar, crunchy!!! How can a chain get things this wrong this often? People usually don't go to chains for high quality, they are looking for a consistent, predictable experience. If you got to a Steak'n Shake, you're expecting a diner that's a half-notch up from fast food, served quick, and in and out in no time. Done right, a Steak'n Shake should be a two or maybe three-star experience, not a one-star. While on my lunch break from work, I've stopped by this location twice, and had the exact same lousy experience. When I try to order an iced tea, I am told they don't have any iced tea. It's on the menu, I see the large dispenser, it makes me feel more than a little cheated. The queasy, sick feeling I get in my stomach after eating there is unmatched by almost any place else I eat. I don't know if it's the grease, or what else it could be. The first time, I thought it could be a fluke, but it has repeated itself. Service is consistently weak, and I've been left sitting there for a prolonged period waiting for my check, or waiting to order, in a mostly empty restaraunt more than once. The sign says to wait for a server to seat you, and even in a mostly empty place you'll find yourself standing there for a couple of minutes before anybody comes to seat you, it's happened to me more than once. Essentially, I came here repeatedly looking for a fast, decent lunch and got a truly mediocre meal served poorly. read more

Road Dog Checking In... This is a very sad Steak & Shake, I walked in and noticed that the tables had food and dirty dishes on them. Ordered a grilled chicken salad and the cabbage was brown and scary. The waitress agreed that the cabbage was scary and took it back. At no point did a manager stop by, to see that I was ok or that the replacement food was acceptable. Note the restaurant was not busy and the tables stayed dirty for the entire time I was there. They apologized for the experience but, said that local management would be receiving the information and would contact me. Nobody from the local steak n shake has even tried to contact me about this (and it has been 2 weeks). So this tells me they don't care about the issue and that is very poor customer service. Avoid Steak n Shake at all costs. Was there this afternoon and regardless of the online advertising and the signs pretending to say that they care about your safety during this Covid19 pandemic it was obvious that isn't the case. They also advertised "Free Fries", however the girl attempting to take our order said " I don't know." The car in front of us didn't get their food correctly so they, and everyone else in line, had to wait for them to remake their entire order. I had already seen that the girl wasn't wearing a mask OR gloves. Doubtful any of the employees had their temperature checked upon arrival for their shift, per the sign next to the drive thru. When it was our turn they didn't even know what we had ordered ! The girl asked US what we ordered. Then she tried to hand me the bag that was not only open, greasy and crinkled on the top suspiciously, like they had given it to the car in front of us by mistake. When I questioned the girl about her lack of gloves and a mask she said " They didn't give us any today." I asked for the boss and she said "he left..." So I asked who was in charge then? She said, "I guess I am" She went on to say "I can put your food in a different bag". And " I didn't cook your food anyway." Not the point... Then she asked "Do you want your food?" Too many mistakes and red flags for us to accept the food. Totally disgusted we drove off. Thanks to the God voice in my head and the fact that I am VERY observant we are safe.
