Sunday evening I went to the Steak N Shake for the first time, My brother said it was a great place, he went to another location in Vegas... The French fries were cold, I ordered a strawberry shake the guy said they are out of strawberry, "ok chocolate then" 15 minutes later a lady calls my name to tell me they are out of strawberry shakes "I know, I told the guy I would take chocolate. She hands me my bag the goes to get the chocolate milk shake "We are out of whipped cream" That's fine, this was a to go order the large was half empty it was a small chocolate in a large cup. The cheeseburger was not that good either. I had been driving all day and was looking forward to a good meal. read more

The food was too salty. I couldn't even enjoy my burger. My fries was cold and dry. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to no one.

I ordered through Uber Eats. I checked the no cherry button on my milk shake. My milkshake came missing its whipped cream with a cherry hidden all the way on the bottom. Also nobody needs grass fed and finished beef at a fast food place. You are over reaching with that when your staff can't even follow basic instructions like no cherry. read more

I had never been to a Steak 'n Shake and had heard great things. The food was actually pretty good, for fast food. I would say that it was reminiscent of McDonald's, in a good way. The meat was a little bit better. I got a double cheeseburger, chili cheese fries, and a bottled water. The service was ok in the sense that they seemed like they cared that it took so long. They were apologetic. The problem is, we waited AT LEAST 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Also, there was no AC and it was HOT! I would not go back, unfortunately. read more

Went in drive thru. Two cars ahead of me, but they moved quickly and I barely waited. My order was ready when i got to the window. The food was hot and delicious, the milkshake was thick and yummy. Employee was pleasant and friendly. read more

OK, today I found out why their rating is so low. Had a much worse experience than I did a couple days ago. The store was busier, but not crazy busy, a couple vehicles in the drive through and 2 or 3 counter orders. The very same big dude cooking the burgers that was so friendly and helpful a couple days ago looked miserable and when we made eye contact and I said "how's it going?" He looked at me like I had two heads. The fries that were so good the other day were cold this time around. None of the staff seemed to have any sense or urgency and were moving like slugs, including someone who appeared to be a manager that looked to be wearing street clothes, no uniform. I now see that their concept completely falls apart if they have a decent mount of orders. The guy cooking the burgers slides them down the counter where they sit getting cold while the employee dressing buns and wrapping sandwiches tries to catch up. Then to top it off, they have some idiotic meter on their soda fountain that dispenses what's supposed to be one drinks worth and automatically shuts off. Doesn't account for the excess foaming so you end up without a full cup. It wasn't working like that the other day when I was in. I'll make sure to visit during off times if I ever hit up a SnS again read more

Food is awesome. So glad they got rid of seed oils. Service was nice as well. Ive been twice in the last couple months and both were good experiences! read more

Yummy!!! When we came here, we got 4 different milkshakes. The price of $5 for a regular size specialty was totally worth it. They have so many different flavors!!! Definitely recommend. read more

Very rude people work there, no customer service at all! Manager is more interested in talking shit( her words) to her employees on her head set. Food was good, but it doesn't hide the poor service. I will not be retuning there....ever! read more

This was our 2nd visit to this location. Both times the floors were so dirty the soles of our shoes stuck to the floor. The restrooms were less than one would expect in a restaurant. Both times we had issues with the drink dispenser, only giving 1/2 cups of soda. read more

The workers are always helpful and quick. They are the best fast food in the area. Open late and quick. Would recommend to everyone. They help guide you if you need help with the kiosks. I get my shake in like 5 seconds it's so quick. Love it! read more

Still not open inside. I called and asked while 3 cars deep. Then about 20 min later as the next car up I heard the same guy on the speaker when told me, oh heck no, we're not going to open the inside. Like, what the heck am I thinking?? Poorest hires working ever. read more

Let's start with the positives. The staff here are actually really friendly and served with a smile! The 2 burgers for $3 are great for the wallet. The kids loved the toys and are entertained by them while we enjoyed a peaceful dinner. The burgers... Who stole half the pattie and left a poor man's portion behind? Nothing I hate more in a burger than stingy meats! Granted I bought the basic burger but that doesn't mean I wanted bread only! The last straw that broke the camelback was the absolutely disgusting toilet! Eww... I don't even want to go into details. But it says a lot about the management here. read more

The store is absolutely filthy. The floors are sticky and they had only been open for an hour and a half so it's not like they were busy. We were the only customers in there. The night crew obviously didn't do their job. They only have two high chairs and they were both so dirty and everything stuck to them that we had to clean them with our own antibacterial wipes The whole thing. Before we had set down we just watched one of the girls supposedly clean off a table. We ended up sitting at that table and we ourselves had to clean it off again along with the seats. Plus the bathrooms look like they hadn't been cleaned for months we were actually afraid to use them.VERY NASTY!! And what really tops it all off is when you're done ordering off of the kiosk they ask you what tip you would like to leave. Are you serious, Why would I leave a tip when I just had to order my own food get my own drink and go up and get my own food. Let alone clean off my own table and clean the high chair so my granddaughter could actually sit in it. By the time our food was done and they called our name it was cold. We won't ever be going back there to say the least. Used to love this restaurant, now it's just completely went downhill. So disappointing. read more

Pulled into the drive-thru just before 6:34pm this evening (I know this time for certain because I received a text just as I was pulling up behind the several customers already waiting). It took a solid 15 minutes before we even made it to the speaker. Our order consisted of a chicken tenders meal, a Frisco melt meal, their advertised free fries (1 per person in the vehicle, we had 4), and 3 milkshakes. After pulling forward to the window to pay, we were asked to pull around to the front of the building to await our food. We did, where we sat for an additional 15+ minutes before our food came out. The food was all there when delivered so we left, I noted the clock on my radio at 7:09pm. Got home and the fries are ice cold 35 minutes is how long we waited to get our food. Mind you, there is currently no dining-in option at the restaurant given the pandemic, so all they have to focus on is orders coming in via the drive thru. If understaffing is an issue, hire another worker or two during your peak times to quickly accomodate all guests. There were several vehicles in line I watched peel out in frustration, money out to door. Long story short: cold food didn't make up for their hellacious wait time. read more

Amazing food with quick service when nothing else was open!!! Great diner vibe with good customer service

Coffee is good and milkshakes are good. Food is a bit greasy. We got breakfast skillets and they were disappointing. We waited a long time for them to come and there were not that many customers here. The country skillet - biscuits undercooked. The California skillet included nothing California except the avocado. The skillet was not even half full. I was brought toast with no butter. Disappointing dining experience. read more

I read the reviews after I had been seated and ordered my food. All I can say is the restaurant was horrid. The manager acknowledged us right away and got us seated but according to the young lady who served us never notified her we were there. I'm not sure how she could have missed it as there were only three other tables with another server on the floor. Our service was quick and pleasant once we were approached. We ordered two chocolate malts and one was rancid. Even the smell was obvious when comparing the two. The fries were warm, one burger was hot while two were warm. The cottage cheese was ok and the pinapple was warm. The malt was removed from the bill and we left. We often make a 1:00 am Steak and Shake burger run to Gurnee Mills so I would like to think I have a bit of experience with their food. I would recommend passing this one on by. read more

Terrible. I wish I read reviews before I came. All the negative reviews are true. Slow slow slow service. I walked out after standing there for 10 mins. Owners should be ashamed of themselves read more

Where to start...arrived and waited an extended period of time to be seat with 75% of table empty. Order the all American burger and fries (as basic as it get). After a half hour wait a manager type (grey hair, dressed in a red strip button down shirt) strolled in (in the middle of lunch, no less. Must have over slept, given the money is made at lunch and dinner. Maybe he's new to the industry. Didn't bother to survey the dining room, else he would have seen all the diners sitting, yet to be served. Must be new to the industry, just could care less. Cook, seemed to cook in a serial fashion, a single order at a time, regardless whether one burger or ten. Make little sense given all the poor reviews, why this would continue. It's an easy fix. Watched four parties get up and leave. Money walked out the door and no one seemed to blink an eye or ask why. I feel sorry for the servers that get the reduced tip, do to poor management and leadership. Food was like warm after sitting for five minuets after it was off the griddle. So where the fries. read more

Food wasn't bad, but we waited literally over an hour for 4 small burgers. Not a single smile or "welcome" or anything. Just grumpy, careless, slow workers. No manager around. Restaurant was also very dirty, floors hadn't been cleaned in god knows how long. Again not terrible, but if you arrive at 5, expect to leave around 8. read more

Seriously? 30 min wait in a drive through? I watched over 10 cars pull in and then leave. Where is management? This business is in trouble.

Stopped in for a mushroom burger. Very tasty. Drive thru was quick, order was accurate and fresh. Staff was very friendly and even tolerated my weird sense of humor. Love their onion rings. Wish the serving was bigger. read more

Do not eat here. Do not give them the opportunity to not serve you. I just left this restaurant. After standing around waiting and waiting to be seated. My wife and I decided to ride through the drive thru. We were told that the drive thru was not open and we simply explained that we wanted two cups of hot chocolate to go and could we walk in and get them. We were told yes. I parked and went in and waited at the register for about four minutes before being. spoken to. I was then told that they were out of hot chocolate. I am a fan of Steak n Shake and have to tell you that this is one of the worst that they have. I will not be back and you should never stop here!! read more

Raw Chicken Tenders!!! I went through the drive through and ordered chicken tenders they asked me to pull up and wait after paying for them. After 10 min my food finally arrives as I'm pulling out I bite into my chicken tender and it's feel frozen cold in my mouth I instantly feel sick to my stomach I pull over spit up a mouth full of raw chicken I tear apart each off them there all RAW!! I go inside and show them the manager didn't show any sign of worry or apology. She asked me if I wanted them thrown back in the fryer or my money back? Are you kidding me? I'm absolutely disgusted! I will never go back here again! read more

Sweetest waitress ever, good prices & the food is so good! The waitress was very honest when I asked questions about good, also very patient. Our food was really delicious but came out at a nice speed as well. We were not in a rush at all but it was nice to know that they keep in mind people are traveling & want their food quickly. It was at a great location, right off of the highway. Not hard to spot at all. I would reccomend to anyone if I'm ever in the area again read more

Avoid at all costs. We waited 5 mins to be seated when the place was half full, and nobody spoke to us about food/drinks for another 10 minutes. We had to get our own silverware and napkins because the servers were standing around arguing with one another. Genuinely terrible. read more

We were staying at the nearby Comfort Suites so I suggested eating at Steak 'n Shake as it seemed a very Midwestern thing to do. Or at least not New York or Philadelphia or DC or San Francisco because I've lived in those places and never seen a Steak 'n Shake. We went in and the place was a little reminiscent of Johnny Rocket's. They have a drive-up window but the place has a lot of booths for sitting down with waiter service. We ordered ours to go. I ordered to steak sliders - Buffalo and ketchup and onion. They were just OK. Not too impressive. Perhaps I should have ordered cheese on them. The meat was tough and not too juicy and tender. The shake on the other hand, much better. They top it with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. On Chopped they would call that solid plating. I saw that whipped cream and cherry and couldn't help myself with my vanilla shake which was good. I think next time I would try the peanut butter shake. Had one of those at Sonic other day. Good stuff. read more

Ok so...definitely not the best experience here. Arrived at 10:30, didn't get our food until 11. And it wasn't busy at all, practically empty, save for like two small tables. Then we didn't have any silverware or napkins. No offers to refill our drinks. No one seemed to know what they were doing or really cared enough about their job, or to say anything about our food being so late. Made us pay full price even after the bad service. Yikes. The Steak 'n Shake in Dunlap is WAY better. Try that one instead before settling for this one. read more

We actually walked in and sat down right away, got waited on and the waters were delivered right away. then, we waited and waited, watching other people walking out, griping, telling us we should go elsewhere, etc. Well, it does look like they could be understaffed and seemed to be training a few employees too, including the cook. One of the workers, walked out the door saying, "see you later and good luck", and I think he was just heading home after his shift. I really felt sorry for all those trying to do the best that they could, but there was only so much they could do. We did eventually get our food and it was very good as expected. They apologized to everyone in there and offered us all a "free" shake for our troubles. So I am giving all the workers a five star, but sure wish I could give the owners a -5 star. None of the workers lost their cool and kept on plugging away. Our waitress got a nice tip too. read more

This is the dirtiest Steak 'n Shake I've ever seen. The grease was caked all over underneath the griddle. I killed four ants while eating my food. This place should be shut down, deep cleaned and reopened under an owner who cares about their business. You'd think the franchise would regulate this. Also, just because you wear gloves, it doesn't mean you can touch everything then prepare food. read more

This is the second time I've been to this location and the service was terrible. Sat Am, not busy and I'm waiting 40 min for breakfast??? It's just eggs and hash browns. The food was ok, but I damm near walked out because I was so mad about the excessive wait time. 3 servers standing around yapping, one of them with a tray of food in her hand that she should have been delivering. Steak 'n Shake is pretty legit! We were staying in Elkhart for a week and hit up this location twice! I wish they had one in Phoenix! I got the patty melt both times. The first time it was absolute perfection! I love the skinny fries that come out with the burger. My husband told me the way to eat the fries is to dip it in a side of cheese. I was not a fan of the cheese, it has zero flavor. I also got one of their shakes with my meal, super good! the second time we went we were on our way to the airport and I couldn't stop thinking about the patty melt, however this time when it came out it was a total bummer. The bread was not only barely toasted it was not toasted in some spots so the untoasted parts got very soggy :( The manager came over and had no problem taking my meal off the bill, they offered to make me a new one but we were on a time crunch. I will be going back here the next time we are in Elkhart! read more

This place was surprisingly pretty good. The food was tasty for only being around $3-4! The burger patties were thin, but none the less tasty. The establishment was sort of dirty and the staff seemed worn down and uninterested in working. I felt a little bad for our waitress, as she seemed very tired and had a rude look on her face the entire time. The food took a little while to come out but it was decent for the price. read more
