This was a stop on the way to Nashville. You order at a kiosk and take a seat. The drinks receive a QR code at checkout to "unlock" the soda fountain. The meal is picked up at the counter when your number is called. The burgers were wonderful and the fries were perfectly crisp. It was busy but still comfortable and a relaxing lunch. read more

We had a great lunch and really enjoyed the burgers. The milkshakes were excellent. The Cookeville restaurant is fully automated so I don't believe you can order at a register. You need to order at the kiosk. Everything went great. read more

Beef tallow tots were so good. Very glad a fast food restaurant is making huge efforts to eliminate seed oils.

My wife and I went through drive through today at 1pm. No long line to blame, just pulled right up to window. We ordered a #2 cheese burger meal but told them to hold cheese mayo and mustered and a hot dog wit a coke and dirt coke. That's it simple order. What did we get a burger with mustard and mayo, no tomato, no onion, and no pickles. A hot dog drowning ING grease so much so there was a puddle in the bottom of the box and two unmarked drinks which we had to figure out which was which. Joe pesci was right you get ---- at the drive through. read more

40 min to get two burgers. Didn't see one worker that looked older than 20. Someone needs to get place more efficient

Great place to be The burgers and fries are addicting, and service is fast and good with following orders. Only downside is the duct taped seats and sticky floors near the front. read more

Food was not hot in drive thru and recommended new burger with garlic sauce not good! Chili not good!

We just ate a late dinner there tonight. Our server, Jordan had a rough night but she had a smile on her face and was very sweet. We work in town a few times a year all the way from Los Angeles. It was a very pleasing visit and Jordan kept up with our joking personalities like a pro. I just wanted to say thank you and Steak 'n Shake, promote her right away. Positive vibes deserve positive rewards. We will definitely come back. Only if Jordan is there. Just kidding but that's a plus. Thanks. Dave and Dave. From L.A. read more

Thank goodness for Steak n Shake! We were driving through the area at 8 pm on a Friday and wanted a SAFE dinner in Cookeville. Many people walking around, or standing in lines, very close together - no one wearing masks. Checked in to several restaurants - packed with patrons side by side! No way we would eat there. SnS was down the road - all staff wore masks and they brought food out to the car on trays. Very clean, very safe! And the food was great. read more

Restaurant is a joke. 3rd shift employees are rude, condescending, attempt to intimidate you, try to force you to give large tips by telling of others giving them over $50 for a tip for 2 folks. Cook is rude and unprofessional. None of them take their job seriously and dont care if the place is clean or food kills you. read more

My family is a huge fan of S&S. I am not. But I will eat there with them. They love the Chili, and the Patty Melts. I hate the little stringy fries. I will eat the steakburger. I don't think its anything special, tastes like a hamburger to me... Its not a usual stop for me, but for the family, sure, why not? :) read more

We stopped here for lunch. She ordered a Frisco Patty Melt. He ordered a Texas BBQ Burger. I ordered a Guacamole Steak Burger. We also each ordered large milkshakes. The mint Oreo, Truffles, and Strawberry shakes looked good. The fries were miniature in comparison to what I am used to. They were easier to eat with a fork. Not The greatest. The guacamole burger was so so. Not much meat and and a ting of spice. Overall an okay meal for a one time stop over. read more

We haven't been here since before Covid. Absolutely am impressed! Liked the kiosk, order ready incredibly fast Andy so tasty. The toppings were crispy and fresh. Discussed we will come back for our fast food hamburgers! Very good! read more

Our entire meal was a disaster. We received our order with items missing, then once finally getting them after having to go back in, we realized our food was wrong. They didn't season anything at all. We ordered the garlic burgers, yet they were missing all the butter, garlic and salt. The fries were cold to put the cherry on top. read more

This one is about what I expect from Steak n Shake. The food is good, but the service is lacking. Our waiter was completely inattentive and brought me fries I specifically said I didn't want. Still, the food is what you should expect from any Steak n Shake, so it's good for a pit stop if you're traveling. read more

Steak n Shake, hire some competent servers. We have had pretty frequently bad service here but tonight was an all time low. Everything took forever, our meals were over by the time we got our shakes, and no explanation was given, just a cursory sorry it took so long. I spilled my glass of water and our waiter was no help at all, we had to beg another waitress for napkins. When asked which menu item he would recommend, he told us (not in so many words) that he won't eat the food here and he doesn't like milkshakes. As far as I could tell, he wasn't in a bad mood and it wasn't crowded so I'm having a hard time giving the benefit of the doubt. Food is okay but I can get comparable quality at fast food with a lot less frustration. Milkshakes should NOT take an hour. read more

Great customer service from both managers at both of our visits this past week. Good yummy. Place clean. Not fan of change to screen ordering rather than table service but not deal breaker. read more

Great milkshakes here! Big variety and menu of shakes is awesome through the drive thru. Got 4 stars for speed of service was sorta lacking for just 2 shakes and 1 car in drive through ahead of us. read more

Served us RAW chicken tenders. There really should be no excuse for that. But thanks for our money back I guess.

Pick your poison. Like any fast food joint, you can carb up, calorie up, or fried-overload. The lunches at $4.00 are a fantastic bargain for sandwich, fries, and a drink. Flavor of the "special" Cajun Spice Burger was really great; only minor downside was that the roll was a bit greasy (toasted on the grill) and most of the cajun seasoning seemed to be on the bun. Fries are slim-shoestrings - ok. Hot dog was nicely prepared Chicago style...all good. Nice selection of shakes. All-in-all I will probably return to a Steak & Shake on another trip. read more

Things to happen to me at this location... 1) I've been seated on more then one visit and we left after ten minutes when nobody even came to get our drink order. 2) I've gotten my entire meal, and it still took another ten minutes for my friend to get his milkshake 3) Waitress went on break halfway threw our meal, took 15 minutes before somebody checked on us 4) We had such poor service one day, mixed up orders, 45 minute wait for food, that a manager was gonna come speak to us, instead he just gave us a dirty look from across the restaurant, finally our waitress just told us to leave with out paying. Yeah. The food isn't bad, but stick to the drive threw.... read more

Waked in and was immediately seated. The hostess and the server were very attentive and orders for drinks were taken almost immediately. Our orders came out exactly as we asked that they be. My fiancé ordered the cheddar scrambler without onions, and they were quick to oblige. Food was great and very filling. We will return the time we come back to Cookeville. read more

I was thoroughly disgusted with the attitude of the manager name James as he spoke to the employees of this establishment. He was rude and disrespectful to the ladies. This is a pretty standard Steak n' Shake. I came in around 8pm on a Sunday night on my way back to Lexington, and was surprised to see how busy the place was! There wasn't a wait, however, so that was perfect. This certainly wasn't my first time in a Steak n' Shake (helloooo college years!), but I was surprised but how much the menu has grown since I was last at one five years ago. I ordered the chicken fingers and fries for a little dose of nostalgia, and got a cup of cheese on the side for dipping my fries and chicken fingers in. While the food is still the same, I was happy that it came out piping hot. My server was really friendly and attentive (while not being over attentive!), and we got in and out quickly so we could hit the road. I would give this experience an extra half star if I could for the good service alone. read more

Don't go after 2 pm they get some rude staff inside that honestly are just there for the pay check college kids of course who just don't care and honestly if you can't care enough to put a fake smile on and suck it up like everyone else who hates their job than obviously you don't care if you are tipped , there's my tip for you. read more
