My wife and I went through drive through today at 1pm. No long line to blame, just pulled right up to window. We ordered a #2 cheese burger meal but told them to hold cheese mayo and mustered and a hot dog wit a coke and dirt coke. That's it simple order. What did we get a burger with mustard and mayo, no tomato, no onion, and no pickles. A hot dog drowning ING grease so much so there was a puddle in the bottom of the box and two unmarked drinks which we had to figure out which was which. We just ate a late dinner there tonight. Our server, Jordan had a rough night but she had a smile on her face and was very sweet. We work in town a few times a year all the way from Los Angeles. Thank goodness for Steak n Shake! We were driving through the area at 8 pm on a Friday and wanted a SAFE dinner in Cookeville. Many people walking around, or standing in lines, very close together - no one wearing masks. Checked in to several restaurants - packed with patrons side by side! No way we would eat there. SnS was down the road - all staff wore masks and they brought food out to the car on trays. Very clean, very safe! And the food was great. read more

Restaurant is a joke. 3rd shift employees are rude, condescending, attempt to intimidate you, try to force you to give large tips by telling of others giving them over $50 for a tip for 2 folks. Cook is rude and unprofessional. None of them take their job seriously and dont care if the place is clean or food kills you. read more

We stopped here for lunch. She ordered a Frisco Patty Melt. He ordered a Texas BBQ Burger. I ordered a Guacamole Steak Burger. We also each ordered large milkshakes. The mint Oreo, Truffles, and Strawberry shakes looked good. The fries were miniature in comparison to what I am used to. They were easier to eat with a fork. Not The greatest. Our entire meal was a disaster. We received our order with items missing, then once finally getting them after having to go back in, we realized our food was wrong. Steak n Shake, hire some competent servers. We have had pretty frequently bad service here but tonight was an all time low. Everything took forever, our meals were over by the time we got our shakes, and no explanation was given, just a cursory sorry it took so long. I spilled my glass of water and our waiter was no help at all, we had to beg another waitress for napkins. When asked which menu item he would recommend, he told us (not in so many words) that he won't eat the food here and he doesn't like milkshakes. As far as I could tell, he wasn't in a bad mood and it wasn't crowded so I'm having a hard time giving the benefit of the doubt. Food is okay but I can get comparable quality at fast food with a lot less frustration. Milkshakes should NOT take an hour. read more

Waked in and was immediately seated. The hostess and the server were very attentive and orders for drinks were taken almost immediately. Our orders came out exactly as we asked that they be. My fiancé ordered the cheddar scrambler without onions, and they were quick to oblige. Food was great and very filling. We will return the time we come back to Cookeville. read more

Pick your poison. Like any fast food joint, you can carb up, calorie up, or fried-overload. The lunches at $4.00 are a fantastic bargain for sandwich, fries, and a drink. Flavor of the "special" Cajun Spice Burger was really great; only minor downside was that the roll was a bit greasy (toasted on the grill) and most of the cajun seasoning seemed to be on the bun. Fries are slim-shoestrings - ok. Hot dog was nicely prepared Chicago style...all good. Nice selection of shakes. All-in-all I will probably return to a Steak & Shake on another trip. read more

Things to happen to me at this location... 1) I've been seated on more then one visit and we left after ten minutes when nobody even came to get our drink order. 2) I've gotten my entire meal, and it still took another ten minutes for my friend to get his milkshake 3) Waitress went on break halfway threw our meal, took 15 minutes before somebody checked on us 4) We had such poor service one day, mixed up orders, 45 minute wait for food, that a manager was gonna come speak to us, instead he just gave us a dirty look from across the restaurant, finally our waitress just told us to leave with out paying. This is a pretty standard Steak n' Shake. I came in around 8pm on a Sunday night on my way back to Lexington, and was surprised to see how busy the place was! There wasn't a wait, however, so that was perfect. This certainly wasn't my first time in a Steak n' Shake (helloooo college years!), but I was surprised but how much the menu has grown since I was last at one five years ago. I ordered the chicken fingers and fries for a little dose of nostalgia, and got a cup of cheese on the side for dipping my fries and chicken fingers in. While the food is still the same, I was happy that it came out piping hot. My server was really friendly and attentive (while not being over attentive!), and we got in and out quickly so we could hit the road. I would give this experience an extra half star if I could for the good service alone. read more

Great stop on the way to Nashville! This location has been recently remodeled. You order at kiosks and pick up at the counter and seat yourself. All of the employees were wearing masks and the dining room was clean. The steak burgers and fries were good as normal. We didn't get shakes but they looked delicious! read more

We had a dime in party of 4. The service was extremely slow, order was not correct, server was not friendly, very ovious he did not want to be there. Had to flag him down if you needed anything. When we got our burgers and fries we ordered our shakes. We waited 20 minutes and flagged down the server to ask about the shakes. He said I will check. 15 minutes later he came to our table, still no shakes. He said I can't figure out what is going on here with the shakes. He didn't apologize, just matter of fact attitude.
