Steak and shake I can say It's not the most perfect hamburger joint but it is one of my favorite. My 1st and 2nd experiences were not the best ,I had hair in either in my fries or in my salad but I continue to go because my hamburger is always delicious. I don't think we've ever ordered a dine-in meal where something wasn't incorrect or forgotten. The managers don't care. Servers are overworked and almost certainly underpaid. Food is as you would expect from a SnS, it's neither better nor worse at this location than any other. OK. This is going to be a very critical review. Why? Because Steak 'n Hake produced a very good burger and shake in the past. They were one of my faves. But, the mighty have fallen. Or maybe it's just this particular location. I ate here a few months ago and vowed not to be back. I wish that I had stuck with that vow...I wanted to give them another chance. Ive liked their hot dogs too. I had a chili dog today. It was terrible. They grilled them in the past. This one tasted like it was boiled or microwaved. I also question whether it is all beef. I'd leave 1 star, but they said have a good day when I left, so there's a star. We ordered 3 things. One was fine, one was wrong, and one never came. The water tasted like chemicals. Went to drive through to get quick supper after work with wife and kids. After waiting behind 4 other cars and finally getting up to the speaker to order the person never came on to take our order. We waited about 5 minutes and decided to just go inside since it was kids eat free weekend. We were greeted and seated promptly by a friendly lady with black hair in a ponytail. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and the lady asked if we wanted 2 kids menus and we said yes, but she forgot 1 of the 2 and the crayons for coloring, but this was the friendliest part of the experience. We sat down and waited for someone to take our order, but no one came. We left the restaurant after 10 minutes and went elsewhere. I was in Chattanooga a while ago and didn't get a chance to review the Steak and Shake burger that I had, so this it. A friend of mine had suggested me going to this place for a burger, which I did. Honestly I wasn't impressed with the cheeseburger that I ordered. I did however, enjoy the vanilla shake that I got. It was very thick and creamy and delicious. I can think of several other burger joints that I would go to first before trying these guys again. Although, I would stop back for another shake. read more

This was one of our favorite places to go, for years.... Until recently, after 2020 and coronavirus, and ever since then, the cleanliness is non-existent. Like completely disgusting. We tried to ignore it, like maybe it was just a busy time each time we go, but the last time we were walking in, just outside we observed multiple cockroaches roaming around outside and a few of them going into the building. Best Steak'n Shake I've had in a long while. I got the double patty guacamole burger, double because I expected the burger to be tiny like most Steak'n Shakes make it, but it came out to be pretty big for me (I didn't finish it). The fries were crunchy and really good. Must be the location because I've definitely had bad fries from this chain before! The waitress we had was working really hard. She was covering a lot of tables and it was busy but she stayed positive the whole time and was always there right when we needed it. Overall really satisfied with my meal and it's so affordable. First time trying this place while visiting Chattanooga. We used the drive-through and the wait was about 25-30 minutes with about 7 cars but we thought that was a good thing meaning the food must be really good. We ordered 2 Bacon cheeseburgers and 1 plain burger with fries and 2 shakes. The hamburgers were good, nothing spectacular, where I would rush back again but our french fries were cold and didn't seem very fresh (after waiting in that line for a long time, you would think they would be hot at least) and they don't give you much, only half full, not a fan of the fries. When we started out we wanted Arby's, we sat in the drive thru at the one on Shallowford rd for 6 minutes and Noone came to take our order. So we decided to go to Steak and Shake. Uh...very underwhelming for a Streak and Shake. Where to start with how bad this particular place is. First, to find an employee with a smile on their face would be remarkable. Maybe they don't like this place either. Slow to seat. Slow to get food. In our party of five, two of the orders were correct. The other three were either not what was ordered or missing part of what was ordered. The manager even came by and asked what needed to be fixed and then...nothing happened. Drinks went empty, then one was filled with the wrong liquid and one was ignored. Just a disappointing experience overall. So the kids were excited to get 1/2 price shakes which they offer from 2-5 on weekdays & we were having a late lunch so it worked perfect. We were immediately greeted and offered our choice of booth or table. We chose booth and taken to a table with dirty glass rings on table and my niece slipped on a milkshake spoon as she sat down. The kids didn't seem to notice and I kept my mouth shut, we ordered milkshakes for them, tea for me and our food. I eat keto and ordered the double (had to go double, their patties are wafer thin) bacon cheeseburger and said no bun with extra lettuce to wrap it myself. Once menus were gone I peeled down at the spoon my niece had slipped on to see straw wrappers, fries, crumbs and spills all over the place. My tea tasted old and when our food came out they had skipped my bacon which the waitress looked at me skeptical and checked the receipt before agreeing to bring my bacon. My son had ordered a chicken sandwich and chili cheese fries, no complaints other than chili was not what was expected. My niece ordered bacon cheese double and fries, she didn't complain but my son stole a fry to pester her and was shocked how barely warm they were. I had upgraded to a side salad instead of fries. Ranch was terrible. After we ate I went to the restroom and came to the conclusion it was my last visit ever. Filthy bathroom, but I'll also note I saw a few homeless people walk in and disappear to the bathroom for long stints so maybe that is just an issue in that location. But actually the whole restaurant was dirty including our waitresses uniform. If you have no issues with random hairs, crumbs and trash scattered about, then the food isn't terrible. read more

Okay. Letz state the obvious and get it outta the way. "It's a chain!" There it is; Verification that I know this. I also know a good burger when I taste it. The Royale is a double-patty delight. The bread to meat ratio is just right. The bun is robust enough to carry the meat and the condiments without undue 'bready-ness'. The bacon is done, but not to the point of diminished flavor. Mayo % is spot-on. Our waitress was pleasant, knowledgable, and had a good sense of humor. Table was clean and dry. Food arrived quickly, and with a smile. One could write an entire review on the milkshakes offered. REAL milkshakes, not those processed abominations that other chains faust on an unknowing public. Despite all the flavor offerings, my fav is vanilla. One could do far worse than Steak & Shake. read more

Women's bathroom smelled like urine a bit. Not overwhelming, but noticeable. When started to eat shakes in the car, noticed that while I ordered a Snickers shake, it had a few M&M pieces and some sprinkles (presumably from a birthday cake shake). Either the machine was not properly cleaned or things fell in while making it. Either way - NOT good. If we had food allergies, would be very concerned re: contamination/exposure. read more

I had to wait to have someone Answer the speaker in the drive through for over 6 minutes, so I reversed and drive back to the window since they weren't paying attention the first time I drove up. Woman that took my Order was super nice, get up to the window and the very FIRST THING I SEE IS how dirty their drive through window was! If I could have gotten a picture of it I would have posted it on here! She opens the window and said my total... not "hey how's it going?" Then I said "can I have mayonnaise?" and she said " I'll have to go get some." And just stood there. I said "yes i would like some mayonnaise" ??? Obviously if I ask for mayonnaise I don't want to hear the steps it takes for you to go get me some (it came across as a nuisance to her) then I pull over after I got my food to check to make sure I got what I ordered bcuz the reviews on Yelp make me cautious. I ended up having to go inside because the fries were stale and there wasn't a shred of salt on the fries (I don't even like fries really salty) and bcuz I needed lettuce that I didn't ask for on my sandwich but decided I wanted it after I looked at my burger. The 2nd door leading into the restaurant was FILTHY LIKE FILTHY FILTHY! Had so many handprints on it, the handle was greasy and I go inside to the front and look around and see a receipt on the counter from someone paying and leaving their trash ( it's Steak and Shake's job to clean up the restaurant) and 6 tables that hadn't been busted yet, one waiter, and 4 tables sitting down and eating. If there are more tables DIRTY than tables with customers eating at them then that's obviously an issue.
