Tapas Night Gulf Coast. Always an enjoyable experience. As a former South Florida resident I will say that this tapas night underwhelmed. Wonton Tuna cups and conch fritter were on point. Smoked tuna dip lacked the smoky flavor of more traditional South Florida dips made from mackerel, mahi, or kingfish. Jambalaya was good and I definitely enjoyed the crawfish. Alligator was ok but the accompanying sauce was dynamite. Lastly the shrimp and grits lacked flavor. The smoked Gouda grits were bland and I had high hopes for these. Service and ambiance at stave and stable are always top notch. And anywhere I can order a Boulevardier and there be no hesitation from the sever or bartender is a rarity. Thanks for a great time. This little restaurant is a gourmets delight. The menu is varied with wild game, camel and traditional meats and fish. I had a filet mignon with a port wine mushroom topping. The meat was done to perfection and could be cut with a fork. My wife had sea bass. It too was cooked to perfection and was served with local vegetables. We topped off our meal with a pot of French press coffee and a chocolate cake. Our server was excellent. She explained the menu and was attentive to our needs throughout the meal. The interior decor was rustic with a wine theme. It is definitely a place to go for special occasions. read more

We love Stave and Stable and it has quickly become our Thursday date night locale. To start- the tapas tasting menus are creative, thoughtfully curated and Annette and Conrad are always ready to answer any questions. I love to start with the bourbon cherry sour and these days my husband is a big fan of their recommended reds so we usually get a bottle for the table. Between Swedish and Croatian tapas we are always left feeling like we've had a unique dining experience and these nights pricing is reasonable given the high quality of each dish. We recently brought friends to Stave for a birthday and I ordered the fillet from the main menu and have to say it was so well prepared they may have ruined me for eating filet anywhere else. I highly recommend trying one of their special event nights to experience what Stave and Stable is all about and keep them in mind for special events. Right off the bat, please be aware the five stars is not a reflection of perfection but rather, given everything, a well-deserved review. First, the location is in Pottstown so anyone in the Pheonixville/Collegeville/Southern Pottstown area know we need more amazing restaurants and this is absolutely one to visit. Second, the service. I feel horrible that I did not catch our server's name last Saturday night but whatever compensation she receives should be quadrupled. She was the epitome of service and we have eaten in many Michelin star restaurants and she ranks as one of our personal favorites. Third, the food. First, the food was ALL beautifully presented but it lacked a bit of execution. The good: Charcuterie board....5/5 and the Duck Dish.....5/5....pork belly, duck, cheese grits.... The unknown: Foie Gras.....candidly, I struggled with this dish. I did like it but I was used to a seared piece of Foie Gras over toast points and this was more of a clams casino presentation. By that I mean chopped liver with peppers and onions and seasoning combined and then seared:..very good taste but had some cold spots. So overall, very good and would absolutely order again but 3/5. The not good: the Waygu steak which was supposed to be medium rare and was served almost well-done. (Being kind would be to call it it Medium-well) And be advised it absolutely not A-5 waygu. (The menu did not claim it was but some people believe all Wagyu is graded the same) I suspect, although truly do not know that is was an American "Waygu". The server, however, handled the criticism perfectly and that is why the 5 star. So I can't really rate as it would not be fair as this is a dish I would avoid in the future since given the cost and perfection of execution is expected. Was every dish perfect? No. Was the service perfect? Yes. Was the restaurant decor and experience perfect? Yes. Would I go back? YES......but I would not get the Waygu. read more

Looking for an upscale, local dining experience we were eager to eat at Stave & Stable!! We have heard many recommendations so were looking forward to a quiet, tasty celebratory meal together last night. We did not unfortunately have this experience. My Yelp enjoyment lands in writing great reviews, but sometimes necessary to write the opposite when merited. It was a very warm night last night and we walked to 2 blocks from parking and arrived at Stave and Stable. We were escorted warmly by the hostess/server to the side (not main) seating area of the restaurant. Immediately, we were happy to have cocktail menus as fans, for cooling of. It did not feel that there was any air conditioning or cool air flow in this area of the restaurant. Next we ordered drinks, summerlike and tasty (bourbon peach and the lavender gin cocktail). We decided on the Foie Gras and Caesar Salad to start. Then told no Foie Gras was available. We changed our order to the Chargrilled Oysters and Caesar. The oysters were not favorable, could have certainly used more flavor in the butter and cheese in my opinion. My fiance, after my one, finished them. The Caesar.....what Caesar! I ate the anchovies off his salad on the crouton toast point and that was the highlight of the appetizers. The dressing had no body and was watery. Onto entrees.....there was minimal improvement in food quality. Minding the fact that we are not anticipating mediocre dishes when paying ~$50+ pp on entree. Ordered the Veal Chop and the Black Truffle Carbonara. Highlight in the veal cook. It was soft & tender and cooked as desired. The risotto accompanying the veal was so-so. The broccolini was made of good taste. My carbonara was lackluster. The noodles were of various inconsistent thicknesses, so every bite felt like it had a different cook. There was not a flavor of truffle (likely would have even improved if they added truffle oil). And was confused in the dish having an overwhelming amount of cream?? Which is not alike a carbonara preparation. In general, the service was well. The ambiance ok, not too loud for how small, but too warm in consideration of the weather. What prompted this review was the impression of the food. In anticipation of a finer dining and pricier dining experience wanted to believe our meals would taste exceptional. They did not. We love Pottstown and are sorry to say this is not a highlight. read more

Great little gem in Pottstown that friends of ours introduced us to. This place serves dinner only and reservations are recommended as it's not a big place, so seating is limited. They do require a credit card to reserve the table in case you are a no show, but you can cancel or reschedule up to 48-hours of your booking date. It's a cute place offering seating in the main dining room, porch, or courtyard. If you can't find street parking, there is a lot across the street that you can park in for $0.50/hr. It's not an overly big menu, but everything is made fresh in-house. Because everything is made fresh, they can usually accommodate most allergies and so my wife who is gluten-free and dairy-free had no issues. On Friday and Saturday evenings, they do offer a 7-course chef's tasting menu and fortunately, your entire table does not have to get it. For starters, I went with the Deviled Egg Bomb and this was probably the most unique deviled egg I've ever had. So delicious! For my main, I went with the pasta, which was a carbonara. Very fresh and tasty! Finally, I went with their creme brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. They only serve coffee in a French press, and no decaf option, but it was delicious. The pace of the meal was too slow for our liking and I'm not sure if having a few at our table do the chef's tasting menu led to the delay. We arrived at 7pm and didn't get out of there until nearly 10:30. It was close to an hour before course 1 of 7 came out and for those of us who didn't go with the tasting menu, it was over an hour before we got our starter. We did have a good waitress and she made sure we always had something to drink. The place is a little on the loud side and music is also playing in the background, but we didn't find it that bad and our group of 6 were able to carry on a conversation without feeling like we were shouting. So glad we discovered this place and will certainly looking forward to coming back. read more

Saturday night at 7pm--If I could give them another star, I would. Favorite husband and I saw this GEM online and immediately wanted to visit. The ambiance is exponentially cozy and welcoming. The lighting was magical (outdoors and inside). Beautiful decor, rustic charm beyond belief. This is not a large venue (which adds to its unique charm) but it is wonderful. Aside from the fabulous kitchen staff (scratch made and beautifully presented gourmet items) were two LOVELY ladies; Gwen and Anette who worked together in service and never skipped a beat. The drink menu is as scratch-made and wonderful as it can be. I opted for a delicious chardonnay which was also a delicious and a "good pour". I should mention there was some very convenient parking in the Verizon parking lot directly across the street. We CANNOT wait to go back!! read more

Attended this "Classic American Restaurant" event this past Sunday...dinner and a movie. Feature film was TITANIC and the 25-30 (?) guests were treated to a very-nicely presented 7-course meal...each course a "tasting" of most of the 10-courses served to the 1st Class passengers on April 14, 1912...TITANIC'S maiden and LAST voyage! Each course was very tasty and presented on small plates, with the course topped with a small flower, a pansy perhaps? My older daughter and I saw the ad for this meal "event" pretty close to the actual event date, so when I contacted the restaurant it was all sold out. However, when I regaled the "Floor Captain" (a very hard-working lady!) with the story of my late grandfather's voyage TO the Uk in July 1913, only 9 months after the Titanic's horrific sinking, and aboard its older-sister ship the OLYMPIC, she put me on hold, and came back saying we could attend! Apparently my family-"connection to the White Star Line" moved the chef/owner to make room for two more "passengers!" I am attaching the night's menu from Pottstown's "Stave and Stable" restaurant, along with photos of each of my courses! Note that the cost was $95 per person, and we went to celebrate Mothers Day early!! The next dinner and movie event will be in about 2 months! Kudos to Annette Green the Floor Captain, Conrad Flynn the Manager/Chef/Owner (?) and to the Chef that nite, Hiram Quintana! Finally, I note here that there is a small municipal parking lot right across the street from the restaurant that charges 50 cents an hour, and you can pay by the ParkMobile (I think) app! A cute little place in Pottstown. We had some signature cocktails which were yummy. As an app, we got the French Tartine. What a great start with the warm brie layered with pears. I ordered the duck. I love duck and this is definitely one of my top 5. My only disappointment was the grits. I have never been a fan of them and even with cheese on them, I still don't like them. Lastly my friend got the risotto and she couldn't stop raving about it. I have to return with my husband who is my ultimate food critic. read more

My husband and I went there for Valentine's Day and we love to dine out. We don't mind spending the money when we dine when it hits it out of the park. Well a few things about this place..... first the food....drinks were good and so was the antipasto appetizer then we moved in to dinner where I paid $58 dollars for 5 small scallops over risotto (not even truffle risotto). $58! My husband got short rib ravioli and that was good but not out of this world and I had requested a special dessert and note given to my husband as a surprise and they even took what I wanted the note to say down when I made the reservation and it never came. We ordered a dessert of the menu, no mention of my request. Next ambiance... the place is in a very strange location in the heart of Pottstown and not the good part. We go in and cute cozy place until you sit down in a row of two tops where we might as well of shared our meals with people on either side of us. When we were leaving I even made a joke to the woman next to me about sharing her meal with us. The service was ok and the server was nice but she really tried to sound all formal and that this was a super fancy place and it wasn't. So it seemed a little fake. OMG! We've tried almost every restaurant within a 30 minute drive of Collegeville and it's safe to say this is the best. We had lobster risotto, baked Brie, halibut, and an amazing crepe dessert. A couple months back we went to Stave and Stable to celebrate my stepdad's birthday, and I'm deeply disappointed--not just by the experience, but by the complete lack of response from the restaurant after we reached out multiple times. We emailed the restaurant within the week after our visit, followed up 10 days later, and even sent a message through Facebook, which we could see was read but still ignored. Our family reserved a table for 14, excited to enjoy what was advertised as locally sourced, high-quality cuts of meat. Steak is my stepdad's favorite, so this seemed like the perfect place for his celebration. While the atmosphere was cozy and our server kept our drinks filled, the food left a lot to be desired--particularly the "Wagyu" steaks, which were absolutely horrendous. The Wagyu sirloin served to my family members was tough, stringy, and far below the standard of what anyone would expect from premium beef. My girlfriend's steak was especially awful--she struggled to cut through it and eventually had to spit it out because it was so chewy. She left the entire steak on her plate, yet our server didn't even acknowledge it when clearing the table. It was glaringly obvious just by looking at the steak that something was wrong with its quality. Several others in our group had similar complaints but chose not to speak up at the time to avoid dampening the celebratory mood. Another guest ordered the duck, expecting it to be cooked medium-rare, but it arrived overdone. Like the steak, it was removed from the table without a word or inquiry from the server. The only positive notes from the evening were the soup, bread, and the correct doneness of the steaks--but those small wins don't make up for the glaring issue: the quality of the meat was simply unacceptable. For a restaurant that markets itself on premium meats, serving such poor-quality Wagyu is misleading and disappointing, especially at a price point that left our bill just shy of $2,000. The lack of response to our concerns only adds insult to injury. We tried to address this directly with the restaurant through email and social media, but no one has bothered to reply. Ignoring paying customers--especially those willing to spend money on what was supposed to be a premium dining experience--is unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend Stave and Stable to anyone who values quality, transparency, or basic customer service. read more

Ambiance - We were distracted our entire meal as our tiny table for two was immediately positioned right outside the restroom door. Another table is similarly situated. There is also a table for four right across so two of your four guests will regularly get a peek inside. It is so unfortunate that the restroom is positioned right off the main eating area. When you request a reservation do your best to get a table close to the bar. Service - The Floor Captain and General Manager were inviting and personable. Drink - My husband had the smoked vanilla Manhattan. It lacked flavor, seeming that it was watered down, and the large ice cube just contributed to its lack luster flavor. The lavender Tom Collins also lacked flavor until half-way down were I mainly picked up the citrus notes (more so than the lavender); I also did not enjoy the dried flowers that stuck to my lips and tongue. However, the glass of Meritage from the Karamoor Estate of Fort Washington, PA was very enjoyable. Food - We started with the Italian charcuterie board, and this was the highlight of our experience. If we were to return, we would get the Italian charcuterie for four with a wine and call it a night. My husband had the veal chop with truffle butter. This was nicely flavored and cooked. I had the duck. The grits were the highlight of the dish; it was a shame they were not warmer. My duck was mainly tough with the exception of two bites. chewy, and I think I might have enjoyed it more with just the brussles and chili-peach chutney; the pork belly did have a robust flavor that overpowered the dish. read more

I was so pleasantly surprised by having a wonderful fine dining option locally. The interior is cozy and comfortable. My husband and I each started off with one of their craft cocktails. I was very impressed with their selection. In addition they have a lovely wine list of PA wines. The menu has a decent variety without being overwhelming. We did a build your own charcuterie board which is a wonderful option. They offered a family style meal that evening in addition to the regular menu. It seemed like a great deal so we went for it. It was a huge amount of food and worth every penny. Now on to the critiques. There's a few things preventing me from giving a 5 star. Firstly there was only one staff member to do EVERYTHING. Literally she was the host, the bartender, and the server. Don't get me wrong she was fabulous, but even the most seasoned staff member would be bogged down with doing everything by themselves. Fortunately, it wasn't too busy and we weren't in a hurry but there were definitely lulls in how quickly she could attend to us. We're typically an in and out dining kinda couple. Secondly, one of the protein options was missing from our meal. It was quickly resolved though with no hassle. And I was given an extra glass of wine for the trouble. Lastly, the prawns for our meal were not good at all. I'm not sure it it was caused by them not being fresh or them being way overcooked but they were off tasting and mushy in texture. Overall I would highly recommend as long as you're not in a hurry or on a tight budget. I will definitely return. read more

My wife's quote after dinner was "This is the best meal we have had all year" and that was true. The space, food, and service is great and we really enjoyed our meal and we also ordered two dishes to go. We are now signed up for Tapas night: France this week for my wife's Birthday dinner. This is a little expensive gem hidden on King St. in Pottstown. I first tried this place after hearing rave reviews, on Fathers Day for BBQ & Bourbon. The victuals are pricey, definitely a date night destination if you're trying to impress the opposite sex. Or celebrating an accomplishment. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and libations they have available. The made fresh food was pretty good, as well as the drinks, but I wouldn't pay this much to eat out often. The atmosphere is petite with inside and outside options. The inside could use some 'home improvements', it was a little rough around the edges, literally. Especially sine they open at 5pm, they should use that time to fix up a few cosmetic eye sores by the entrance. The highlight of the evening was the exceptional customer service from Gwen, she went above and beyond, answering all our questions, and making my Father's day one to remember! read more

My wife and I ate there on March 16th. On a whim, I googled "fine dining Pottstown". Stave and Stable popped up. It looked promising so I booked the reservation. It is a small venue. The main dining area seats about twenty guests, and there is an overflow area which seems cramped. I recommend the main dining area if you can get it. Ambience-wise, it is rustic and quaint. The staff in the dining area was comprised of a bartender and a hostess/waitress named Gwen. Both women could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Gwen was great providing food suggestions and was mindful not to rush our time. My wife and I both tried one of their signature cocktails which was a pear and ginger martini. It was a bit sweet for my palate but I have no regret either. We ordered the French charcuterie board which had a nice assortment of meats, cheeses and apricots. It was beautifully plated and actually a good amount of food for two people. Very good. For the entree, my wife ordered the sea bass and I ordered the duck. I'm not a fan of duck but the chef had won an award at some world competition so I wanted to try it. There was a fair amount of time between the appetizer and the main course. Both dishes were beautiful presentations. I have subsequently found reviews on facebook and I can confirm that my meal, the duck, was lukewarm at best. I don't know if the dish was waiting and our waitress didn't want to rush us, or if the components of the dish were prepared and waiting for the duck to be done. I'm not a complainer by nature and I didn't say anything. Perhaps I should have. It is less appetizing when the food is cool. Both the duck and the fish were cooked perfectly. I tried a piece of the fish and it was delicious - maybe better than the duck. I think the problem with the temperature can be easily resolved but someone needs to listen to these reviews. For dessert, we were both pretty full and contemplating skipping it but my wife was intrigued by the poached pear offering so we split it. It was ok. It isn't my idea of dessert but it wasn't bad or too rich for when you're approaching being too full. The restaurant hosts some interesting tapas events and they change the menu seasonally so we will be back. I hope they can fix the minor issues like entree temperature. read more
