I've always made a point to visit S4 when I was in Dallas. I've had a lot of memories in this bar. My fiancée and I had our first date here. Our first kiss. First drag show. We've always loved coming. However, this past weekend we brought our friend because she wanted to have a fun time in Dallas. We are all lesbians. And almost as soon as we walk in my friend was sexually assaulted by a man. Shortly after that my fiancée was sexually assaulted by another man. Bobby (an amazing bartender and popcorn giver) was furious. They quickly took us to the managers. The manager given to us seemed to care less. He even told my friend that "you know it'll take me two hours to find this guy right?" He led us back to the dance floor and left us. He acted like the whole situation was a inconvenience for him. My friend found him within five minutes and had to find the manager to kick the guy out. However, we couldn't locate the guy who assaulted my fiancée. It's upsetting that this happened. That three women can walk into a gay bar and get assaulted shortly after arriving. You have a duty to protect your patrons. You need to treat them with respect. Thank you Bobby for being the only good one. We won't be back. Because I will not give money to a business that could care less about their patrons. read more

Best club to go dancing (or bar hop). This is a gay establishment but there are tons of girls who feel welcome / not hit on who can let go and have a blast. There's a drag show upstairs that is always amazing. I always get there 2 hours early to get a table/front row. Pro tip - if you're late - you will have to stand in the back of the show. read more

Gay Bingo is the worst thing ever. The host sucks and completely discriminated against our group and made us sit in "jail" meaning we couldn't play the bingo that we each paid $40 for because the host wanted to tell us we broke the rules. I will NEVER return and thank god it was for a good cause otherwise, I would demand a refund because of the trashy ass host. So rude. So disrespectful. Wow this place does drag the right way. They have a stage with a great production team. Not to mention some pretty crazy talented drag queens that deserve awards. I have never been so impressed with a drag show. This isn't a small stage either. Its (hate to use this word because of a certain president elect) huge. And you can be damn sure that those drag queens use every inch of that stage. The place was packed too. I would love coming here all the time if I lived here. I forget the performer but these dallas drag queens knows how to read a crowd to filth (reading is basically roasting someone and their expense). The place has an upstairs and a downstairs with many rooms that house a dancefloor, stage for drag shows, and bars with pool tables. The patio is also two stories. There are many places to escape to if you need to do a lap or a change in scenery. They have some confusing cover criteria as well. I heard from one person that you needed a password or something like that but when we went to the door all you needed was to get in by 11pm to get in for free. They have a really good happy hour on friday so make sure to look up the specials on the day you come. Overall, if you like drag you NEED to come here and if you don't EDUCATE YOSELF. The lights and strobe effects are second to none and way better than it'll do and stereo live and all of the other clubs in Dallas. Greg C. said it best - Station 4 is the category killer. It is simply impossible to compete with the behemoth that is Caven Entertainment's flagship. I mean, just, incredibly astounding. This place is huge - warehouse sized. I would guess in excess of 40,000 square feet if I had to. The dance floor is huge, surrounded by railings for the gawkers and gropers and drunks, with bars EVERYWHERE. A huge outdoor patio, separate upstairs bars that overlook the dance floor, even a non-smoking "chill" room with its own bar for those so inclined. The Rose Room is the real gem of S4, despite what people think. A full size stage with it's own (closed off) room to block out the sounds of the club, a series of incredible performers on a regular basis, and OH so much fun. Stocked with tons and tons and tons of gorgeous, half-naked boys, S4 is definitely the hangout of choice of the younger crowd (and those that like them). No one thinks that Dallas will beat down San Francisco, or the more liberal Austin, or the much more famous New York City, but it does, and soundly, with one club. So S4 first recieved a 4 star rating from me. We went again and now I wish I could give it negative stars. Once again door staff was rude. There was an inncident between me, my friend, and a guy who literally shoved my friend. My issue with S4 is not that we got into a fight at the club, (This can happen anywhere) but its th way they handled things. Instead of grabbing the gentleman who put his hands on a girl in a violent manner had no reprocusions at all and was not even spoke to. Instead they called the cops on us for really no reason. The guy was asked to move that the seats watchin the drag show were taken and because he didnt like that we said that pushed her.... A little bizarre that we are the ones who got into trouble for the incident... I will NEVER be returning to this place. read more

Hmm, so let's just get down to it. I'm a big fan of lighting technology. A HUGE FAN. Back in my college days I would go to The Lizard Lounge in Deep Ellum to just stare at the lighting system (i refuse to dance, especially to techno. ack!) AND NO, I WASN'T ON ANY DRUGS. I just like lights and how people can manipulate them to make amazing light art. I was probably the only person in the entire club who paid this much attention to this, but really, it's something that contributes to the environment more than one might think. Now the reason I bring this up is because S4 has an OUTSTANDING lighting and sound system. The entire rack moves! and you can see it all happen from the second floor. It's so rad. The club itself is actually quite impressive. Even in San Francisco, where gay clubs are aplenty there isn't a place that remotely comes close to competing with this one in terms of technology and size. Of course, San Francisco peeps and Dallas peeps are completely different, but I love them both for their own reasons. uh.. so anyway. There are like 5 rooms in this joint. And the rooms are huge! The Rose Room... ASTOUNDING! The new stage is just unbelievable. The upstairs bar area with a bunch of couches... GREAT. and a nice retreat from the blaring dance area just a a few feet away. Outdoor patio... great place to get some air on a warm Texas night. All in all, a cool place to hang out. The crowd is generally pretty mixed but whatever. I used to hang out here from time to time when it was called The Village, but that was after hanging out with my buddies at The Round Up across the street. I hate when clubs don't have accurate reviews, so I will try to be as descriptive as possible as to why I am only giving four stars as opposed to five. When you walk in, the entrance is nice and the usual greeter is friendly. It's clean and the traffic seems to flow very well. The setup of the club is really nice. Big open dance floor that ends up jam packed. Plenty of seating. The music is generally a good mixup of mashups and house. People come very casual to this club. Jeans, flats, or as little as you want. Anything pretty much goes here. The bathrooms could use some work. They aren't very clean or well kept, which is kind of a big thing for me when I have had a drink or two. Lots of vommiters in the bathroom too which to me means people are being over served...but who knows. (to each their own on that) The drag show, I think it lacks in performance. It's neat to see once and they are totally glammed out, but I just feel it would be nice if there was more dance or more singing instead of the lip singing. I just felt it was a lot of free money being handed to people who weren't doing that much. Beyoncé was incredible! She had the best attitude/performance of all the ones we saw last week. This was my second time to see the show at S4. Overall, the drinks are well poured and an average price for Dallas of $8 for premium brands. The bar tenders are friendly and prompt. This is by all accounts a "twink" or wanna be/has been twink bar. There are groups of straight bachelorettes that go to dance with the gay boys--this is becoming a common trend in many cities across America so it's not just S4. The straight clientele, especially the women, don't have to worry about, "putting out" with the gay boys. Once drunk the straight girls tend to be a little bit out of control and sloppy drunk. A number of patrons who frequent this place clearly parTy which is problem. Dallie-Tude rude is king here with lots of young guys flaunting their name brand clothing! S4, is busy--loud, and draws a young, inmature, crowd that's still coming to grips with their own sexual orientation. "The White Boys" are the "gate keepers" and tollerance can be low towards anyone who doesnt fit the Calvin Klein, Abercrombie and Fitch, or Hollister stereotypes. It will never be a NYC, Los Angeles, or Miami level club--the crowd will ensure that. A very cliquish crowd with over the top attitudes. read more

Hmmm, I can't believe I've never rated S4, what's wrong with me? I won't go into details on my personal experiences here as I've been a million times and that would take me foreva. The place is huge, there are nice outside seating areas with a bar, there are several rooms to go to that are small and similar to a corner gay bar, but then there are big rooms with dance floors or scantily clad dance boys. I used to spend the majority of my time in The Rose Room, it was tiny and wonderful and a lovely little room for drag shows, but there was a huge renovation done and I guess that in retrospect the room is much larger and better for the masses. I'm just so tired, I need to go to sleep so I'll stop rambling on here, hah. I'm just reminiscent of my old hangout, I guess. Anyhow, you can play pool, you can go to a show, dance, just sit and chat, be inside, outside, watch nearly naked hot boys dancing, it's a great place. Go there. My only issue is the lines. I hate that clubs are all ages, and I hate that 21 and up pays for entry when the drinks are so high dollar. I think that the kids under 21 should pay entry and us oldies should waltz in. Tonight was my first night at S4 and I really really enjoyed it! I knew it was a huge place from mapping it and yelping but when I got there... It blew my mind... It is huge... I waltzed up stairs and there was a drag show going on, I am used to drag shows so I knew what to expect but the girls here are so funny and original! I was laughing and applauding for days! There were many straight men and women in the crowd who seemed to be there for the show which I admired! The gay scene was very accommodating and the drags served up some fish and some lip! I was living for their performances! :) the bartenders were nice too, kept a margarita in my hand... If you're from out of town, gay or straight, and just looking for some fun... The party don't stop at 2, you can keep it going right here. I've been to S4 before for their amazing drag show. Seriously, one of the ladies had the BEST looking set of legs I've ever seen. I was so jealous and wanted to ask what her work out consisted of! Most recently, we just went to close out the night and make the rounds of the gayborhood. I was all danced out by now, so we settled for some major people watching up on the second floor. The flashing light show and all the people shaking what their momma gave them was very entertaining. They cut off drinks at 2, and a very nice and patient bar employee came around to collect glasses and remaining drinks. No rudeness what so ever. After we had our fill we left and was able to hop right into a cab that was parked right out front. Perfect timing. read more

Everyone has a complaint, a gripe, and a list of all that tick you off about this place..........but the fact is this is Dallas' claim for inclusion in the Global Gay Universe of Disco. The site has held the major gay discoteques in Dallas history, from its days as the Old Plantation in the 1970's, to the revered Village Station for twenty years. S4 (Station Four, the fourth incarnation on this site) took over the tradition in 2004 and takes it up a notch to hold its own against the best gay danceclubs in the US. Everything you expect is there, the sleek minimal design, lots of metal industrial touches, and a light system that has no equal in this part of the world. So many places to hang out its tough to list them all: The main dance floor, encircled by a second floor balcony, the quieter, smoke-free bar on the second floor (overlooking the dance floor), a stripper area, and a back patio for some fresh air. Finally, the raison d'etre for many, the Rose Room theatre with the city's top drag show. SRO for any showtime. It's too big, too many clubkids, too many drag queens, needs better DJ's, too impersonal, watered-down drinks, too loud to talk, too stoned to talk......you've heard all the complaints, and there is validity to these and more. But however you feel about it, this is where you take your friends from LA and NY to show them we can hold our own on their turf. A real cathedral to dance decadence. In my ongoing quest to be out of my comfort zone, I found myself at Station 4. It was a lonely, Sunday evening and I heard there was a drag show in the Rose Room. Onwards I traveled to the heart of Oak Lawn and into the thumping beats of remixed Lady Gaga songs. As a club, I found Station 4 to be pretty chill. The dance floor was quite large, and with multiple floors, I didn't feel like I was overwhelmed. The drink prices were on-par with more places and the service was surprisingly top notch for a busy evening. On a side note, it was indeed a Sunday evening. I thought the place would be dead, but good lord, it was packed until 2 AM. I guess the gayborhood never sleeps? I have zero problem with that! Anyway, I head upstairs and grab a seat for the drag show. Out came the ladies and through a lot of humor and beauty, I was mesmerized. I am a straight male, and regardless of what other people may think of me for saying this, some of those girls were beyond beautiful. I was floored with the pageantry and the overall confidence that exuded from each and every performer. In all honesty, I envied that aura and reveled in it. I highly recommend attending one of the cast shows, but be sure to bring your $1 bills :) After the show, I headed down stairs and did some more people watching. It was a good experience overall. The drink prices are good, and the staff was very friendly. I can't say what it is like as a pick-up joint or a place to meet people, but if you're a people watcher, such as me, you'll really get good quality watching here. I have a love/hate relationship with S4. Heres my explanation: I love S4 for the sheer flashiness of it all. the lights...the awesome crowds...the thrill of being in the party enviroment. It has a certain charm that I have come to love.... ...sadly the charm wears off fast at times. If you go feequently you will notice that the SAME tired music is played over and over. It sounds a bit dated, and the DJs that they use seem to prefer long drawn out techno mixes of played out Celine Dion songs, among other things. many a time I have showed up, utterly pissed at the music selection, but staying because of the 10 bucks they made me fork over to come in. The music is difficult to dance to, so I just spin and sway completely BORED. THEN something magical happens. between midnight and 1 th emusic changes, and it gets fun...top 40...some older stuff...heavy base...nice beats....actual SONGS versus that tired techno. This is when EVERYONE spills out from where ever they are to dance, and have fun. It goes on like this until 4 am when everyone spills out onto the streets, gasping for air...still high from the excitiment of it all. On a negative note, there is blatant pretention. Im young myself, but I do not prefer the crowd sometimes. People show up to see and be seen, and there is a very "plastic" feel. Kids walk around with their noses up in the air for no reason other than to look like....something. People can be clique-happy often people will wear certain "outfits" that you may see quite often...skinny jeans...vests...fauhawks...yes, it can be very FAKE. I rarely buy drinks -- not sure why, but its not fun to do so at this particular place...and the barstaff is not very friendly. They never smile and treat you like you are burdening them by asking for a drink SOMETIMES [not all the time.] I have made a u-turn sometimes and decided not to order a drink afterall...and dont dare buy the 2-3 dollar bottle of water!!! The drag shows are "cute" -- though I dont enjoy them and they are boring, though this is just my opinion because they are insanely popular. The mens bathroom is cool. The walls look like twinkling stars, and theres a guy standing by the sink at all times with his lotions and mints. throw him a tip and you can spritz on cologne and all sorts of things. thats awesome. I do have to say that I have gotten in FREE on paying nights various times...much to my excitement. Alot of times they people at the desk will move us along if we are all over 21, or if the club is very packed...just gotta come at the RIGHT TIME I presume. all in all I will go there...I will hate that I showed up, then I will be glad that I showed up...I will roll my eyes..then rejoice...I will leave either elated or pissed off that I spent money to get in. S4 is divided into two parts really. Downstairs and the Rose room. I'll start with downstairs. If you are a gay man this is the place for you to go and see next to naked, extremely good looking men. A lot of the younger, well built boys take off their shirts and dance to the techno music BOOMING through the place while in the next room "professional " dancers stand and sway upon pedestals just for your pleasure. Upstairs is the rose room where you go to watch the drag shows and these "women" are just amazing. Some of the ladies look more like a woman then most of the women in the club. There is a diverse group that make it upstairs all make models and ages go to watch the show. Next door to the rose room upstairs is another bar that allows you to get your drink and then look downstairs at which boy is in a cage dancing half naked. Oh yes wild times here. Too much drinking and too much craziness for me now a days but at the time it was a blast. Great place for straight or gay people, bachlorette parties or just about anything. read more

My first experience at this establishment and I enjoyed my time and loved the last part of the drag show! I would like to share with you guys one negative thing that I experienced. My friend purchased three shots from the upstairs bar and I bought four drinks. I had to put my purse down to enjoy my first shot, so we all walked to the table closest to us; as we were about to sling back our drinks I thought it would be nice for the minor (friend's new boyfriend) to pretend like he was drinking with us and hold up a pretend shot. Obviously not the best idea, but for my first time being there and my first time meeting him, I wanted to cheers to the special occasion. Well, about thirty seconds later this big buff older looking fellow shined his light on us and at that point he started with his accusations.... For about five minutes, I had to stand there and explain to him the misunderstanding. He told me he could get me and the minor kicked out and "ARRESTED" for pretending to have a drink. I kept extremely calm and bit my tongue before I blurted out something on the lines of, "Shouldn't YOU be arrested for watching the other bartenders over pour liquor to accommodate the customers?" "Oh, and aren't you suppose to stop serving alcoholic beverages to someone who has had too many within a certain period of time." I could've understood a slap on the wrist; instead, he drilled me about the mishap. It was unnecessary for him to talk to me the way he did. I deserve to be treated like an adult, whatever the situation may be. read more

I have been a resident of Dallas for 6 years, and I must say, this club is less interesting than the formation the shit from my morning BM makes in the commode. When you end your wait in a line that has no purpose, you find yourself a venue with ZERO flow. The space feels awkward with stairs blocking the views, and bars with little to no space for navigation. The first thing you notice outside of immediately hating the pre-90's, shithole architecture is: The sound. The music is TERRIBLE. I'm an audio engineer/producer, and I have to appreciate all music, so this says a LOT. The music is outdated, shoddy at best, and neutralising, and this goes for the DJs as well. I love to dance, but S4 not only has the worst taste in music in general, but the "DJ's" are no better than somebody making a playlist for a high school dance. No originality, no creativity, and no taste. These dudes are praised by the circuit queens most often migrating from round-up after their mollies kick in, and it makes sense; they can't even comprehend that the music is shit. The lighting and sound system are equally lacklustre, outdated, and boring. Because it's Dallas, you get a LOT of what I call "woodworkers." People who come from the most plagued abysses of Texas. It's a pretty trashy crowd. When I go dancing, it's an event. For these people it's another day at your local Wal-Mart. The crowd also NEVER changes, so if you go once, you've seen all it could be... A waste of $6-10 cover charge, depending how bad the turnout was the prior weekend. That's why I'd prefer the straight club Avenu over S4. Avenu also has a decently mixed crowd, and people actually dress to impress as they drop it. Boom. Then again, I'm all about shit shows and people watching, so when I'm dragged to this cesspool... S4 is an amazing dance club catering to the LGBT community but I have taken many of my straight guy friends there and they had nothing but good things to say. For the most part everyone is friendly and welcoming and no one really bats an eye with how you come dressed or who you come with. Of course being Dallas there are the occasional pretentious queen but one bad apple cannot spoil this bunch! Fridays they have a free password to get in without having to pay cover all night if you are 21 and a fan on their facebook page. Saturday is for people over the age of 21 only and every weekend starting Thursday the ladies up stairs in the Rose Room put on one hell of a Drag Show. read more

I love the drag queens and the insane moving light fixture over the dance floor here. I saw an obscenely raunchy drag version of "The Facts of Life" that scarred me forever, and for which I am forever grateful. I have seen bizarre old men dance shirtless while confetti glitter falls from the ceiling. I have done shots with weird names and ended up switching clothes with one of my gays here. In short, it really can be super fun. My main complaint is the music, because you really have to enjoy dancing to techno-fied versions of disco hits and the top 40 of 1982 here. I can't say I've ever heard hip hop music played here... but I can't say I've been even close to sober for most of my visits either. So who knows?! Go to drink, to dance, to see drag, and to feel magical while confetti falls on you from the ceiling. read more

S4 has gone downhill ever since the remodel. When they gutted it it lost it's personality and the music got even worse. Caven clubs are getting more and more sanitized of any flavor or atmosphere. Regarding the rose room, the drag queens get paid enough you think they could wear a different dress now and then and perform a few different songs. I've gone a month apart before and they wore the same thing and performed the same thing. Shouldn't you assume that your customer base will go somewhat often to a gay club and that mixing things up would be part of the job? If you want friendly gay bars with some soul left in them go to Round Up or Tin Room. It's a pretty decent place. THe name attracted me since Audi S4 is one of my favorite cars. This place was humongous. People do say that everything is big in Texas. There are several area for you to walk around and check out. Outside seating and smoking area is a bonus. If you want to go dancing, S4 is the place to be. With the awesome lighting and crowds they pack it in on Friday and Saturday nights. I've been coming here for a couple of years and when the club opened. The DJ's play the latest dance music and videos. They know how to get the boys on the dance floor. The first floor has the dance floor, the lighting and 2 full bars and bathrooms. As you walk by there are huge speakers to the left with hard pounding base and if you continue to walk back past the DJ's studio there are Go Go Boys out back. They patios furniture and you could smoke outside or talk with your friends. There are a lot of younger boys that come here and dance. Older daddies come here and dance as well. It's great to bring your group of friends and either talk and or go dancing on the dance floor. Great cute staff and the cheap drinks are made strong. You could go to the patio downstairs and smoke as well as upstairs. The second floor boost a stage where the have drag shows and there is a full bar upstairs and bathrooms too. You could go out to the front or back balconies to smoke and talk upstairs. I would recommend a group of friends to go dancing and having a great time here! You could even ask the DJ to play a song. I have asked every time and they played the songs for me. They are such wonderful DJ's. I always have a great time here dancing with all my friends. It's a great workout for sure... I forgot how much I LUV this place! Went for a girlfriend's bday on Saturday, and it rocked! The drag show is pretty much the best entertainment EVAH!! Pretty sure that one of the he-girls is not a he.. There was no bulge in her skintight dress.. makes me wonder! The music is awesome, gotta love when they rock out some Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry! I have to admit, there were way too many little boys with their shirts off, but eh, whatever makes them happy. You don't really have to worry about weird random creepy guys hitting on you here, but it can happen. At that point just do what we do and tell them no thanks, we're Lesbian, hahaha! read more

$8 cover, still not bad! And they close at 4am!! Unfortunately, we were only able to grab 1 drink at this bar since it was basically last call by the time we got in. This place is HUGE! I loved how the dance floor was big enough for people to spread out so it wasn't super cramped. We were lucky enough to be able to catch the last performance of the Drag Show upstairs! I guess they do save the best for last, because the performer sang Taylor Swift's Trouble and it was hilarious!! Soooo entertaining! I wish we went earlier to catch the other performances! I'd come back to this club if I lived in the area or the next time I'm visiting. read more
