I've used State for 2 generators at 2 homes and they always come through. In the recent PGE PSPO my generator died due to failed battery after about 22 hours of continuous running, and of course it was night time on a Sunday! From the time I called their after-hours service to the time the generator was running again was no more than an hour. And that was when most of the county was without power so all generators were running and I'm sure many needed service. This was the 2nd time they've gone above and beyond for me. Looks like State Electric is out of business. Sad, because we paid for their extended warranty. No one has answered any of the phone lines - which are still operating - for two weeks. Neighbors say they closed down in December. read more

I dealt with the previous owner years ago, and was grateful that the new owner(s) are carrying on with attentive and responsive customer service. They replaced a carburetor on my RV's generator, and worked around my schedule interruptions with flexibility and good grace. They charged a fair price for the diagnosis and repair work. read more

I was very excited to finally find a company willing to service my non-Generac generator. A service that isn't easy to find. Service day came, and I did not really expecting them to show as the weather was horrible. No surprise, when they didn't show. I was however expecting a call to reschedule, but that never happened. Today I received a bill for $257 stating that they had showed, but left when they found the generator running with nobody home. We were home. My wife faces the driveway when working from home and notices every car that comes down, especially when we are expecting someone. I was home, and was checking often. I even moved a meeting that had schedule during the service window so that I would be free to engage with the tech. They said they knocked on the front door. We have cameras. That didn't happen. They only have my cell number. They never tried calling. My generator wasn't running, because I knew it needed to be cool to be serviced. I give them credit for agreeing to disregard the bill. However, they had the audacity to tell me that I would need to pay up front for future service. Not a problem! I would never turn to these charlatans! They should have apologized and offered to come back! I imagine they went to the wrong house, but that's not my mistake. You can do better! read more

These guys are great for generator work. They know what they are doing and get it right. If your doing a generator you want someone who specializer's in it. Their willingness to help people with little know generator's is impressive. Once again, you get what you pay for. Yet I am impressed with the cost too. When we called State Electric they showed up at the scheduled time, provided a reasonable estimate and we're finished in a few days. Very polite and competent technicians. Was told it be a minimum of $150 plus mileage to diagnose an issue with my small handheld generator. When I mentioned this is a small generator and I could bring it in I was told that that's not what they do. Not a great business model. I don't think I will be calling back anytime soon read more

Wow, I had a bizarre experience with State Electric. Last year I scheduled them to do a service on a generator that they installed for me, but when I found out the cost ($340), I had to send their technician home. I didn't have the money at the time. This year I called them to do the service (I now have the $$) and their office manager said she would have to see if they would come, given that I had to cancel before. She never called me back. I called her today because power is out and generator is not working. She said they won't come, that I should call Tom or Eric somebody. No phone number and good luck. Do you really want to trust your family safety and comfort to this outfit? They were quick to take my $2500 for the generator install, but don't believer their "Call us 24/7" sticker they put on the generator... I'd be glad to update this review if they would reach out, but not holding my breath. Now I need to find someone to help get the lights back on. read more

GGotta admit it wasnt easy getting this monster generator on top of a rough hill with trees and huge boulders around but glad that the team was always focused nd safely manage to get it on top of the hill. State Electric came to my house to diagnose a broken Cummins Onan 20kw propane generator. (I found them in the phone book.) After the rep displayed general lack of knowledge as to generators, he misdiagnosed the problem as related to the electric controls of the generator, and they followed up days later to suggest an expensive replacement of the controller and related electronics. Suspecting this was not the problem, I sought a referral and hired Air Cooled Engines (based in San Jose). They correctly diagnosed the problem correctly (which was indeed mechanical). Nevertheless, State Electric insisted on being paid $426.20 for the faulty diagnosis. read more

On a Saturday my generator began smoking and I called State Electric and within minutes Ernie was troubleshooting for me. It was hugely relieving because I live in an area where the fire danger is extreme. Ernie handled the problem brilliantly. When I had another issue with my generator on the weekend Ernie was speaking with me in minutes. I am very very satisfied with the service I've received from State Electric who also provide yearly maintenance on my generator. HORRIBLE SERVICE - RIP OFF. SMy 6500 Watt generator was putting out 1/2 voltage. i.e., 120 on 240 and about 60 on the 120. I took it to State Generator AKA Alexander Electric where it sat in their shop and collected dust for over 1 month - until I called and complained. Later that same day I received a call from the technician who claimed to have "looked at it". He gave me a believable but very expensive quote to repair the unit, which was later discovered to be a false diagnosis of the problem. The service tech claimed the electrical problem was due entirely to a $120.00 regulator board - a simple "pop-out / pop-in" replacement that the tech suggested I install myself in order to save an additional $98.50 charge for labor. The total estimate for parts and labor was $455.00 - this because they wanted $98.50 for the diagnosis and he wanted to sell me a battery for over $100.00. One month later the regulator board finally came in. When I went to pick the part and my unit up, the tech on duty could not find my generator and promised to deliver it to my home the following week - this because he lives just down the road from me. One week later the owner of State Generator AKA Alexander Electric refused the courtesy delivery - he demanded I pay an additional fee. Frustrated I picked it up myself and replaced the regulator board in about 5 minutes. However, there was no improvement with the generator. I called State Generator AKA Alexander Electric IMMEDIATLY and was promised a return call. I called several more times over the next two weeks and they NEVER returned any of my calls - until one month later when I reversed the charge. AUTO-AG in Watsonville repaired the generator in 2 days for $105.00. This included ALL PARTS AND LABOR as well as a brand NEW battery. Moreover, the part that State Generator AKA Alexander sold me had NOTHING to do with the problem. To add insult to injury, the owner of State Generator AKA Alexander Electric LIED to my credit card company about the situation. State Generator AKA Alexander Electric is a RIP-OFF. Good news is that they are not the only game in Santa Cruz County - For any and all generator repairs I recommend Auto-Ag in Watsonville. They are fast and fair.
