I just received an unexpected thank-you gift from State Automatic. It is a lunchbox-sized cooler. It will hold a couple of sandwiches and a can of soda, and it seems perfect for a lunch break at the pond near my home. But that's not all. There is also a package of delicious-looking cookies. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to have them. That doesn't mean I won't have them. I am just not allowed to have them. After all, at 70 years of age, I am just a big kid at heart. When two other larger companies only wanted to sell us a brand new HVAC system (for $14k), Bob took the time to ask questions, provide a consultative approach, and then brought Jose out to take a more detailed look at what was wrong, to see if our existing system could be saved. Jose spotted (and fixed) a simple problem that the other two companies completely overlooked (and wanted to charge hundreds $$ to diagnose). Our AC was up and running properly again! We then setup a second appointment to add a couple of upgrades to enhance our current system. Jimmy came out and it was immediately apparent he was very experienced also, and showed us how to use/operate the new equipment features upon completion of the work. Because of State Automatic's honest, experienced, fair and thorough approach and results, we will be using them again (including for regular maintenance/ tune ups). I apologize this should have been a review I provided 3 or 4 years ago but others should be aware. My AC was not running cold and the State technician put in something like 5 lbs of freon. When I was told how much I nearly flipped. The explanation was State does not mark it up. I can find the same freon for $30 a lb which would have been $150 for freon and that is retail. I did not complain but promised I would share my experience. Hope you had a great day with the gouging but I will never be back - far too many good outfits out there. read more

Do you hate your money, and want to spend too much on a new furnace and air conditioner? State automatic has you covered! Want to wait around all day, just to have an appointment canceled, then re scheduled for a week later? These guys can make sure that happens! If you like being interrupted frequently while you try to order service, they got you covered there too! These guys promise a lot, deliver little and quoted me 12k to replace my furnace and ac unit, when I got more efficient models than what they were quoting ...for less than half! State Automatic just put in a new furnace and humidifier in my single family home. I really liked how friendly and knowledgeable everyone was and they seemed to actually care about the work they did and it shows. The installation was very clean from all the electrical and plumbing routing, etc. System works great and is very quiet, its a Carrier 96% 2 stage. These guys were recommended by a neighbor of ours that owns a commercial HVAC company, who is very particular about a job well done. So, when we called, we had hi expectations and were not disappointed. We had no heat and they came out right away. When I called, they were very friendly and the person that came out was also very nice and professional. He showed me what was going on and fixed a few little things I did not see that would have led to other issues. We got on their quarterly maintenance plan and did not feel like it was unreasonably priced. On time and have used them for two years now on three houses. With the recent severe heat wave they called to reschedule my maintenance so they could take care of emergency calls-I think that is pretty good service and proactive thinking-did a good job-no complaints. Tech went to change my filter but was still clean so he just left a new one off to the side-good thinking-many would of just replaced it and charged with throwing out the one I had in there. We had State Automatic do all HVAC on our newly built home. After 6 months we noticed the ceiling leaking in our bathroom. They sent someone out to take a look in the attic and noticed our dryer vent was sweating and that part of the vent was broke. They claim they didn't do it and we would have to pay to have it fixed. After 1.5 years the problem is still not resolved. Jim the owner is a coward. He hides behind his secretary and claims to be out of the office when you call. This is the kind of customer service you get when you spend 40k dollars with a company? We didn't break it. Why should we have to pay for it? This should be between him and the builder. The consumer is the one that gets screwed. read more

I have used State Automatic in the past and always thought they were top-notch. I just had them in this morning to do some AC maintenance and correct the problems caused by another company, Brilliant Electric Heating and Cooling (who caught me at a weak moment and accepted them coming out from their cold call). The previous company did nothing right while once again State Automatic left me entirely satisfied. Jose diagnosed 2 issues that I could not, corrected a wire in the furnace control board that was incorrect, replaced the UV light, and gave advice on what may need to be done in the future with no pressure. Turns out the UV bulb I asked about with the prior company was absolutely burned out (they had told me it had another year on it ?!?!?) And my humidifier is dead, and I decided I will replace it in the fall. While the prior company said they had rewired the humidifier so it would work now. Can't recommend State Automatic strongly enough. read more

I have been a customer of state automatic for several years now. They've replaced my air-conditioner and water heaters, worked on my furnace on a regular basis. I've always found them to be very competent and thorough. I've always been very happy with the professionalism of their staff and their responsiveness. Most recently I called them when I was having a problem with the water heater they installed for me several years ago. The pilot had gone out and after several attempts on my part; I could not get the water heater to reignite. So I called state automatic. The woman I talked with said she could have someone come out that they and take a look at it, or if I felt comfortable with tools I could try something on my own, she said this would save me the cost of the service call. Feeling comfortable doing it myself, she told me what problems might be and a couple things I could do that could fix the problem. I tried the solutions she suggested, after reattaching the gas line and testing it to make sure there was no gas leakage, I was able to reignite the hot water heater and it has worked ever since. Looking back on this incident I have to take my hat off to state automatic for what they did here. In these tough economic times I am sure businesses like theirs is trying to earn every dollar they possibly can. They could've easily just sent someone out, and have done the same thing I did, and charged me for the service call. Instead they gave me a chance to save a few dollars and fix my problem at the same time. From my perspective I really appreciate service like that. I know the next time I have them come out and do some work for me they will treat me fairly and honestly. read more

Great service on our furnace. I called in the morning, when our furnace was not working and was giving off a smell. The technician came out that day and fixed our furnace. The tech was knowledgeable, courteous, gave us an estimate, and fixed it right. It was expensive, but worth it. We had been using a different HVAC company, but State Automatic installed the furnace for the previous owner of the house. We will definitely continue using them. read more

I was grossly overcharged $1,032.50 for the replacement of a faulty water heater under full warranty (manufacturer said to use State Automatic). $967.50 was labor alone, $25 for "warranty process", $5 freight, $35 for PVC pipe. The technician also installed pans underneath both heaters and PVC pipe to the sump pump, so a little more labor than just installing the water heater. Labor was charged at 7.5 hrs. when I know it was only 5 because I have a trail cam on my driveway so could see exact time when trucks came/went. When I called to dispute this, I was told the other 2.5 was "travel time". When our second water heater went out a year later, I called our regular plumber. He delivered and replaced the water heater for $200! I would never use this company again, even though the plumber who came was polite, pleasant, and competent. read more
