At about mile 6, I questioned my sanity for signing myself up for it. At the finish line, I felt like I earned that medal more than any other I have ever received and that made all the toe blisters worth it. I had an hour drive and was worried about parking at Redwood Park, so I arrived before 8:00 and secured a spot near the registration area. No lines and friendly people. They had lists to confer with and I had my awesome black t-shirt, pint glass, and bib in seconds. They warmed us up over the loud speaker, I grabbed a picture with the Sasquatch, & away we went. I was intimidated by the pace the group set as a whole, and moved to the back. That move caused me to chat with a fellow, who I quickly realized was one of my TnT coaches from 2007. So fun to run into a friend. I also made a new friend (Hi Marcy!) along the trail. She was not sure which way to go at a split and I pulled out the written cheat sheet. I highly recommend having one on hand, I used it 3 times. I was also glad I brought my own water source. There were 3 water stations: at mile 3, 7 & 10. That stretch between mile 3 and 7 was really long. I was all by myself a lot of the time, I have never had that experience on a race before. All in all, a really fun and unique race. No question that it's San Francisco's best trail race! The course weaves its way through the Presidio with fun trails, great views, and a couple of good climbs. Swag is great: cool shirt, awesome woodallian, beer, yogurt, and other goodies after! Also, there's a treasure hunt. Pick up a "hidden" marker along the course and exchange it for "trail treasure" after the race! I'll definitely do it again!

During the 90 minutes my rotation had for this course, I ended up doing 4 of the 6 available challenges: 1. Tight Rope: I basically climbed up a bunch of staples and walked across a rope that was 30 ft in the air. It was nerve wracking, but it helped to know I was secure and wasn't going to fall into anything. Tricky, but a pretty fun way to start off since you can hold onto a series of several ropes that are hanging above you along the way. 2. ZIPLINE: I think this is scary when you climb up to the platform, but after that this is by far the most relaxed and enjoyable experience. Once you push off, everything is secure, and all you can really do is savor the few moments in your life that you will spend feeling like a bird! Beautiful, beautiful view along the way :) 3. The Broken Bridge: This is a bunch of planks. You can hang on to the rope that secures you, but the point is kind of to not hold onto anything and to try and walk across this unsteady bridge stretched up about 15 ft above the ground. It was pretty fun, and I felt a lot better once I started taking a few steps on it to get used to the feeling. 4. Leap of Faith: This is the scariest, gutsiest part of the course, I think. You basically climb up a 30 ft pole, stand on the very end of it, and then jump off to try and catch a trapeze. I was really nervous about this one and it was the last one I did, but obviously, I lived to tell the tale, and I don't regret trying it out one bit. Ten-out-of-ten, would do it againnnn. The two I didn't do: 5. The Catwalk: You basically climb up and walk across a log without holding on to anything. Yes, you are still secured to a rope, haha. BUt the point is to balance and stretch your boundaries by walking across, doing jumping jacks, walking backwards--whatever you want. I didn't do this one, but a lot of my coworkers chose to walk backwards on it once they made it across the first time. 6. The Swings: This is literally a set of wooden plank swings attached to a log that you have to get across. It seemed physically intense. I didn't do this one, but a lot of people had fun with it and made it across either sitting on the planks or standing on them. As someone who is usually afraid of heights, I thought I was definitely NOT looking forward to this. The breakthrough that you reach while you go on this course, though, is its whole point. Lupe and Trinity, two of the main people running the course, are super friendly, and all of the staff are great about making you feel safe, encouraged, and welcome. Overall, the course was fantastic for helping my work team up its enthusiasm and unity during our mid-year slump, and it was nice that I ended up surprising myself (what?) with how I was able to settle my nerves and jump off of 30-foot high things with abandon....

When obstacles get tough, your team cheers you on. This was a lot of fun and a challenge for all levels of fitness. There were ground challenges that used your brain and climbing challenges that used your body. This was a great experience. Instructors Willow, Melissa, Jasper and another gentleman (I cant remember his name) instructed us well. There were no mishaps and kept us safe along the way.

My group of 6 was comprised of people at various physical activity levels. We stayed together and helped encourage each other through the course. We all had a blast. I was pretty bummed when I never saw a course map get posted online before the day of the event. I contacted them and was told they would not be posting it online, that the only way to see the course map for NorCal was to go to the event. When we arrived, they were handing out professionally printed glossy advertisement brochures with the NorCal event map. So, I know someone could have scanned it and made it available to the participants online before the race. It's a minor complaint but it wouldn't take much effort for them to remedy that. Event day was well organized. Parking $20. It was really nice to be so close to the start area. The obstacles were a blast. My favorite, as always, is tough tatas. I'm a sucker for climbing ropes. Down & dirty was very challenging. You would have a very difficult time trying to complete it without teamwork. The mud pits were deep and the mounds were high & slippery. I loved that they had so many in a row. Running in and out of horse stall after horse stall after horse stall = redundant. That part of the course was pretty long & dull. One part of the course seemed like they converted a wading pool for livestock, gross. We all came out gagging and everything smelled like poo poo after that. Tire swinging was fun. I wish there had been an express line though. There were people trying to hold them for others and the line was jamming up. As soon as I had a clear shot, I was through them in a few seconds. The end obstacle, Hat Trick is a cross between walk the plank, a cargo net & a giant slide. It is intimidating and super fun. The showers were perfect. Not too long of a line and just enough time to get rinsed off a bit. Bring a change of clothes & flip flips. We topped it all of with our reward, a nice cold Shock Top. It was a great day of exercise, fun, and team building. Go girl power!

Having access to the petting zoo during the party was fabulous, our guests absolutely loved interacting with the animals. All of the animals are so sweet, friendly and love being petted. They also offered a pony petting/paint interaction activity which I regret not adding on! The owner was amazing to deal with. I loved that she presented me with options such as renting tables, chairs and other items from them. Which made hosting here a breeze! This is a small multi-generational family run ranch where you get one on one personalized service. The owner was very communicative throughout. She is detailed oriented and wonderful to work with. I appreciated that she promptly answered all my questions. The day of the event, the owner and her team checked in to ensure our everything went smoothly. It truly was a wonderful venue - Thank you for making our day so special!

I have never once had to worry about my horse since he's been there. The facility is well maintained and clean, and everyone around is friendly and welcoming. When my horse was collicing everyone dropped what they were doing without hesitation and immediately came to help me. I was recently out with an injury and haven't been able to be out to see my guy, when normally I'm there twice a day, and I haven't once been concerned about him being taken care of. Deborah has not only made sure my boy is well taken care of in my absence but also checked in on me multiple times. If you're looking for a barn that feels like family this is place to be. Some places are busy and loud but not at Willow oak, it's quiet, it's family oriented & overall just a relaxed atmosphere. I've boarded many places over the years and Willow oaks has been by far my favorite.

I participated in the 2016 race. I've done a couple other 5ks as well as a 10k so this wasn't my…read morefirst race. Prices were reasonable. Packet pickup was quick and easy (at the veterans center). However, the hours weren't practical at all (3:00pm-5:30pm, most race pickups are about 9-5). The free bag and water bottle was cool but I would have rather had a medal. The shirts were nice but a tighter material so you couldn't roll up the arms. Lots of snacks before and after the race (samples, bananas, hot cocoa/coffee). Race day parking was easy and free. You can pick up your packet morning of but they wont guarantee your shirt (huh?). There was no line for packet pickup but a huge one for morning of registration. Time tracking for the race was a plus. My biggest complaint is the course. While the neighborhood offers nice scenery, it's a lot of uphill for a fun run. Probably more than half the course is uphill. Very little of the course is flat, it's mostly variations of up and down hill. Also, the road you're running on isn't leveled out, it's dome shaped. This meant if you didn't run down the dead center of the road you were running at an odd angle and disproportionally stressing the joints. Also there were no water stations on this run. Why? This is the only 5k I've ever done that didn't provide water stations; seems like a liability. All in all it's a nice community of people to run with but I'd be hesitant to run that course again in the future.

I was ignored for four days (they have 50 plus inquiries a day but do not finish reserving times and dates for spoken to customers) only to be told my day now was booked. The saddest part is my child is autistic and loves animals and I invited SO many people after finding this company having specific animals and being told they had a date for me changed the date to fit THEIR AVAILABILITY. They gave it away to someone who inquired back in March but couldn't finish communicating with me to finish booking me the day of. Reading other reviews Im glad I was ignored so I can book elsewhere.
