My heart sank at that moment! I hadn't eaten dinner and was incredibly hungry. Jay O immediately said no I spoke to a gentleman who said if we got here in 20 mins we could order food. The manager then said yes they can I told them they could. That alone is the reason for 5 stars!! Lol luckily for us the food was amazing as well! Our first meal in Hong Kong ended up being Belgium food but amazing German food. Their gulden drak beef stew! Man so gooood! It came with a side of Belgium style mashed potatoes. We also ordered French fries and chicken wings. Fries were excellent and well seasoned. The chicken wings flavorful but yet extremely soggy. Jay O said it might've been because the oil had been turned off for some time so it was hot when they dropped them in. The selection of Belgium beers are amazing! Pages upon pages! Few drafts but plenty of bottles! The manager was very cool and talkative. After they were closing we headed to another bar he recommended and said he would meet with us to have a few drinks, he did and we had a great time!

I almost always randomly choose a sauce, and they haven't disappointed me once. I like the beef burger, but I didn't have the chance to try any other dishes yet. It was good, and largely due to the sauce. Getting a regular size fries is the go-to choice, they are served in a funny shaped paper cone, with the sauce conveniently placed on the top. It looks amazingly dining in the store, but a bit cumbersome taking away and lying it down on your own desk. Again the store does it job, but the rise of burger joints in Hong Kong in the last year or two is just... mad. While there are no similar burger joints around Soho, it doesn't help much to have Butcher's Club or other brands expending. Their names took off and people would go an extra mile to visit, but I don't see the same in Le Cornet Belge. I'll come because it is super convenient to me, but otherwise I wouldn't be going if it's another two blocks further away from me.

On one occasion I simply ordered an appetizer: I tried steak tartare for the first time here, and became a fan. Being the opportunistic people that we are however, our main draw to this place are its daily special discounts. My first time dining here was on Wagyu Wednesday, an awesome discount for getting the Wagyu burger on a Wednesday. Mussels Monday (all-you-can-eat mussels of different flavors, on a Monday) is my most recent Frites endeavor. Be careful with mussels, especially if they're all-you-can-eat. In my childhood I had read about the dangers of eating bad mussels (mussels that don't open after cooking), but I mostly ignored them this time around and faced the repercussions the next day. It wasn't too bad for me, but I am taking a break from mussels for a bit. The Laksa Mussels were notably delicious. My coworker and I were particularly interested in the unlimited steak offer they had for the weekend, named "Strip Night". We wanted to challenge ourselves to getting our money's worth of meat, and possibly risked developing heart disease in the process, but in the end it was well worth the experience. As with any all-you-can-eat situation, the more food that we had already eaten, the less active the service staff were in trying to help us, i.e. they often stopped looking in our general direction, pretending to not see us. I understand their tactics: I am also always looking to save money, which is why I came to their all-you-can-eat deal nights. I still got what I wanted, as there is no time limit per se (except during the period of time in Hong Kong when dining-in was banned after 6PM). The steaks were delicious, and I was able to experiment with eating different cooking temperatures of steak. No more well done steaks for me!

So I was not one bit surprised when I saw a Belgian restaurant in the food section of Causeway Centre, across from the Wanchai Ferry Pier and next to the Sun Hung Kai Financial Building. It's a somewhat trendy place with an European ambience, and upon entering, I found that the language spoken by the receptionists and servers was English and not Chinese. (For those of you who have never been to HK or China, this means that your wallet will be emptied but your stomach will not be full.) Set lunches with their at best mediocre selections run about USD30, which is pretty steep even in the expensive financial districts in HK. If you want to order a la carte, items are around USD 30 - 40, although steak frites will set you back about $50. Bear in mind that this is not upscale as in Morton's or Ruth Chris. This is more like a Yard House kind of place. SCHNITZEL AND FRITES: It's a popular European dish which is a thin pork cutlet that is tenderized, coated with bread crumbs and deep fried. The bread crumb coating ewas light and crispy; the meat was tender, flavorful and yummy. The frites (fries in English) were less impressive though. There were literally numerous Belgian Fries stalls, carts, and kiosks wherever we went when we were in Brussels and we loved Belgian fries. The most distinct difference is that the potatoes are not soft and starchy, and they are fried twice. Sorry... but the fries here tasted nowhere near those in the streets of Brussels. THE GOOD WIFE SAUSAGE: It was an interesting looking sausage that was in the form of a coil. Although I've tried various sausages in Brussels, I never had the opportunity to taste this particular variation. It looked and tasted like a "Boudin" sausage which is typically made with pork and is lighter in color. I liked the texture and its taste; and if you are an European sausage fan, you'll probably like this. The gravy was tasty with a strong aroma of onion, but I was hoping for a rich gravy with an authentic Flemish dark beer flavor. The mash was good, but nothing to write home about, especially at these prices.

I…read morecan again credit stumbling across this place thanks to my dining buddy, and while we were here, we tried the Moules Marinieres (the traditional albeit somewhat creamier approach to mussels), Carbonnade Flammande (beef stew), the Flammenkuche, and the Belgos nachos. The mussels came with bread and frites. The mussels were tender, and the sauce went fanastically with the bread. The frites were also light and crunchy, and pleasantly potato-ey. The Carbonnade Flammande was served in a dark beef sauce. The beef as very nicely marbled and it practically melted in your mouth. The stew came with potatoes, Brussel sprouts, carrots and potatoes, which soaked the sauces up very nicely. The Flammenkuche is essentially a flatbread served with baked potato toppings- it's literally served with sour cream, and bacon, but also chives and thyme, which made for an interesting twist.. I was skeptical at first, but it also turned out to be a very good combination. Then, there's the belgos nachos- what caught my buddy's eye here was that they were using raclette, a very delightful mild and melty cheese with a pleasantly chewy texture. Not only were the tortilla chips crunchy, but they were also very generous with the chorizo. BONUS: DESSERT We went for the creffle, and it was ENORMOUS. There was tons of cream and berries, but the waffle was cold a dry. If it weren't for the ice cream, which wound up getting soaked up quite nicely, but I ultimately feel that having a fresh and fluffier waffle would have been better. Overall, this was a pleasant experience. With a new place, they're still in the process of refining their service (they may wish to look into communication between serving staff), but they'll ultimately solve these problems in the end.
