the food wasn't that good. they first got my boyfriend drink wrong. and we when got our food it was cold. my gravy was basically water and idk what gravy they put on my chicken fried steak. but it was like mushroom soup. and the mashed potatoes were hard to eat. the waitress gave us new food and told me more then three times to tell my friends they have good food even though they messed up. they also messed up on our new food it was still cold and really over cooked. I also paid 40$ for just two meals that wasn't worth it. I'm honestly disappointed and felt disrespected when the waitress talk down to me like I was a little kid. because they didn't want a bad review. I honestly would never trust their food it seem sketchy. i will never go back their again. I've never had a chicken fried steak or mashed potatoes tastes so bad. I guess their is a new owner but the place has gone down hill and I wish I didn't wast my money on the food. Or unclean table. read more

Went in for Breakfast/brunch before heading out. Got the Spanish Burrito, while my dad had the turkey dinner. Very filling, and we enjoyed it a lot, then had some of their home made pie. The pecan and Blueberry cheesecake are excellent, and they let use "build our own pie" sort of deal, which we took home with us. read more

Starlite is the perfect small town diner. They're super friendly and have great wait staff. Not to mention the food is pretty good! Breakfasts are amazing, and I highly recommend biscuits and gravy. Definitely go for the pie and ice cream!!! You can call in an order and pick it up, which makes for great convenience. Their prices are pretty average. I had the opportunity to work in Vale a number of summers several years ago. This was one of two places we would go for lunch everday. This is your typical (very) small town diner. It has a salad bar, good sandwiches, good soups and some solid dessert options. If you ever find yourself in Vale (and I can't imagine why you would), this little cafe likely won't disappoint. read more

Definitely a worthwhile lunch stop if you make it to this little town. The crowd of locals were the real deal, dusty cowboys taking time out for lunch and pie. The waitress asks you ?"Tots or Fries?" when you order - I'm guessing they take their potatoes seriously since it's near the Ore-Ida factory. Then there was the marionberry pie we took to go and ate in huge bites as we drove through thunderstorms and hail in the eastern Oregon dessert. Well last night we was undecided as to what to have for dinner, so we decided to get brave and try the Starlight Cafe again. When my parents was alive, it was the best restaurant in town, but as they grew older and past away, so did the Starlight, and over 3 years ago, i would have never gone there. But to my surprise, it has much improved, and the food is great, its worth the money. We had breakfast for dinner, we had Chicken Fried Steak and eggs........nice portions.....good price, and yes we will be back again.............good going Starlight keep up the good work. Great spot to stop on a road trip. We were on the lookout for pie and we found a perfect place to get a slice. Lunch was satisfying. Tuna sandwich and corn chowder. Hearty and tasty. The razzleberry pie hit the spot! We split a piece and it came warmed up with ice cream. Delish!! read more

We stopped by on our way from Eugene to Boise with the kids. Saturday night prime rib with fresh corn, homemade mashed potatoes and toast, it was great!! The kids had fish and chips and corn dogs which they really liked. The service was really good and the wide variety of pies was awesome. For Vale this is 5 stars for everywhere it's a 4 star. Stopped here while RVing and we weren't disappointed! The staff is super friendly and offered the kids coloring pages and crayons right away. The food was yummy. I highly recommend the fries with brown gravy :) we were too full for dessert, but we were sure to get two slices of pie to go. read more

It just doesn't get any better for breakfast. I ordered over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns and sour dough toast. The bacon was top quality and yummy. Eggs prepared as ordered. Hash browns were outstanding. I'm done with chain restaurants. The independent restaurants care about quality and friendliness, especially this one! read more

I've been comin here since I was a kid and I love it more then any restaurant ever. Such a comforting, community based place where everyone is a family. As a cross country bicycle tourist who loved local restaurants, this charming cafe did not disappoint. The owners are local pastors as well and they insure a kind, hospitable environment. The atmosphere has that distinct, small town appeal and the food was a fine value without compromising on quantity or quality. The cafe has one star in my review because the waitstaff was nice. My husband's coffee cup was dirty so he asked for second one. The salad bar was fine. Both my cup and his bowl of chili was COLD. The cheese on top certainly did NOT melt. We asked for our bill and left. How hard is it to heat up chili? We tried this restaurant because Yelp had great reviews. This restaurant had friendly service, but were understaffed. Rather slow. The walls were topped with boards with lots of brands from actual farms around, that was cool. The hamburgers were pretty good. Tater tots were crispy. But the French Dip was AWFUL!! Very small, dry beef that had no flavor. Dip sauce also had no flavor, not even salty. The pies looked good, but we didn't have any. Not a place I'm anxious to return to. read more
