This is when I got them fixed to what I wanted.

I got acrylics done here. They were horrible they could not do the style I wanted. I repeatedly told them to re-due it. When they were cutting my cuticles they cut me multiple times to the point I bled on multiple fingers. They did good on my pedicure. But I was not happy with them. I had to go to another place to get them re-done. Just don't go here please!

Gel mani in perfect condition 8 days later

The technician matters. I regret not getting the name of the person who did my nails last time. A week later, my nails look good, but the gel is lifting at the base and I got hangnails from too much cutting at the cuticle. **Do not leave a tip through Venmo.** After paying posted prices and leaving a generous tip, I got a message from the technician on Venmo saying she "forgot to get the money" for something she made up and to send her another $10. I will not return to this shop.

This place is so highly rated I had to try it despite there being at least a three places closer. But still within walking distance for me. I made a 5:30pm appt on a Saturday. I arrived about 10min early and they set me right up. There were many colors to choose from. The water was a good temp. The massage chair was excellent. The place is pretty quiet. Very clean. My girl was gentle. Cute snacks. Highly recommend.

Went here for a manicure intending with nail polish (walk-in in the afternoon), and was given a quick cleanup and told "thanks for coming!". Maybe because I'm a guy they assumed that I didn't want polish, but I had hoped they wouldn't make that assumption. I then mentioned I was looking for a gel/SNS polish, and presented some color options, asking which they'd think would work best. The nail tech brought over a color ring and told me to find them, and got *very* impatient when I said I needed a moment to think. She brought a second ring over and immediately asked me "which one?" again, without giving me a chance to even pick up the ring! I then said I needed a second, and she insisted again which colors. I looked at the ring and said "oh, I want natural gel to be clear, not acrylic" and the owner had to come over and help translate, I believe she thought I wanted clear color. I picked two colors and she went to work. Finally, when I was checking out, my cuticle started bleeding, but I didn't want to make a fuss as I was happy to take care of it myself. The cleanup was okay, as was the polish. However the rushed service (when there was one other customer in the store), assumption I didn't want polish, and stress I felt when being pushed to pick a color faster led me to the two star rating. I would suggest asking at the start if it needed to be a quick job, and building awareness that rushing clients through color (it really wasn't longer than a few seconds) can lead to unhappiness with the result. I'll be trying a different place next time, but I hope Starlight is able to take these points into consideration.

Been here several times. Always a quick and thorough experience. A bit pricey, but overall a good experience. $45 for a regular gel manicure without extension. $50 with tip. A regular gel pedicure was $58.

Came in with a nice, smooth, slightly overgrown dip mani (see photos), left with a lumpy, lazy, misshapen dip mani. The technician was heavy handed with the electric drill; filing so deep on my pinky that I flinched in pain, I had to repeatedly tell her that the application was uneven but she just tried to tell me it was my natural nail, but unfortunately for her my natural nail wasn't like that when I came in, in any case no one wants a lumpy manicure and dip is very easy to smooth out. Unsanitary as well, she left gel sloppily around and under my nail-- good thing I don't have an allergy. Plus used "communal dipping methods" ie dipped my nail into the main powder container. Nonetheless, nearing the end of my appointment it was revealed I am in fact 22 and not 14 like she may have assumed; realizing I was a potentially returning client she flipped the switch and tried to get to know me and flatter me. Too late, I was done, my nails were botched and I was looking up other salons. I don't recommend.

I came here a week ago and went with gel nails (black base with white lines) which ended up being $45 ($35 + $10 extra for the line art). I initially had gel polish on my nails which ended up being difficult to remove (not their fault!) so that took a lot longer than expected. However, the nail technician who removed my gel polish was really rough on my hands and was not apologetic when I winced in pain. My thumb had a cut near the cuticle and when I grimaced, she looked at me and said, "not my fault I didn't do that." Pretty unnecessary comment since I never blamed her for the cut. She was fast at painting nails and didn't really make any mistakes. Sadly, the white lines I requested were super thick (much thicker than the reference picture I showed her) and definitely not worth the $10 extra for them. I didn't really like the end results. A week later, my nails already started cracking and there's already a chip on my right thumb. Definitely not worth it. Overall, I'm giving this place a 3/5. Nails were shaped well and painted professionally (besides the white line art) for the most part, but sadly my nails are already cracked and the subpar service was not it. Edit: Lowering my review to a 2/5. Two weeks later, 6 of my nails chipped and my nails are pretty thin and brittle to the point that they started chipping. I learned from a different nail technician that using an electric nail drill to remove gel polish on natural nails is really bad and that's what happened with me at this location.

Walked in for a quick gel French manicure and they were able to squeeze me in. Mandy was friendly and professional. I prefer short neat manicure with a skinny french tip. The nails are perfect! I was astounded to see all the good reviews for this business considering my experience. I thought long and hard about writing this because I don't like to write bad reviews but I genuinely have never received a worse manicure in my life. I came to this salon less than 2 weeks ago to have dip powder done. Not only was this $10 more than other salons I've been to ($50 for dip powder) but it was so terribly executed that the "polish" had chipped, cracked, and multiple nails had fallen off within a week of having my nails done. It is now roughly two weeks later and my hair has been getting caught underneath the polish. Additionally, most of the polish has fallen off (see pictures). I have been doing dip powder for over a year and this has NEVER happened before. The woman who did my nails not only rushed, but applied FAR too many layers of powder without shaving the powder down by the cuticle as is normally done. The polish is supposed to be thin by the cuticle and thicker towards the end of the nail. Additionally, because she rushed the top of the polish by my cuticle is ragged instead of smooth and rounded. When I initially left the salon some of my nails were crooked, and one hands nails were shorter than the other. This is absolutely unacceptable. If you do not have the capacity to take on a client, SAY NO. In addition to this awful manicure, ambiance is non-existent, the space is extremely cramped and any semblance of relaxation seizes to exist in the hectic, unorganized mess that is this salon. I wouldn't even go back here to have them "fix" the disaster they created on my nail beds. Moral of the story- don't waste your money here, go to a salon that takes the time to properly complete your nails and gives you the manicure you're looking for.

This is my third time here and that alone is impressive. I have been trying to keep up with doing my nails more often but have always hated spending all that money for it not last long. However, I have had such a great experience here, that makes me keep coming back! First the staff is super welcoming and friendly-- provide you snack, water, tea,etc. They are also ver accommodating and can usually take walk-in or easily schedule you for a later time. I have gotten my nails done by the owner Tee every time and she is great! She takes her time and make sure you get what you asked for. Even if she has never done a design before she tries and crushes it! Most importantly I have been able to have my gel x/ UV gel in for at least 3 weeks before needing a fill in. Even then I get no breakage, the nail just grows underneath and let's you no it's time for a fill in. I officially feel like a cool girl with a go-to nail tech !!

Really love this nail salon! Much better than others in the Ballston area. The entire experience shows how much the owner and staff care about their clients - they offer hot drinks, coconut crackers & a chocolate when you arrive, and consistently do high quality work. PROS: - Price: Best bang for your buck. Amazing prices. You get so much for your money. - Experience: Jenny gives the best massages ever. My legs felt like they were in heaven. Then she also gives you some scented neck wrap thing that completely relaxes you. Absolutely love this place. - Staff: Jenny and staff are incredibly friendly, kind and engaging. If you are unsure about what you want they patiently help you to figure out what would look best on you. They are knowledgeable about their craft and suggest that support your nail and skin health. - Nails: My nails look amazing every time No matter who is doing my nails. Everyone is well trained. That being said, I look for Jenny. My hands and my feet feel so soft every time. Jenny helped me pick a color that would look great with my skin tone. And my nails did not chip or crack for over two weeks. - Snacks: They provide you with these yummy cookies that are addicting and a nice refreshing drink. - Chairs: This place has the best massage chairs I've ever been in. Great location with great service! The place is not as fancy and modern as some of the newer (more pricey) nail places but they do a great job with the mani and pedi services with nice extras like shoulder and neck massage and hot stone massage for the pedicure. It gets busy so be sure to make an appointment. Gana was great! She takes her time with cleaning and trimming the cuticles and I liked how clean they looked. Ask if they have new customer promotion. Jenny, the owner is very friendly. read more

This is my regular go-to spot for manicures and pedicures. The staff is super friendly and they have safe COVID protocols in place. I've been making appointments via the Yelp app and they respond quickly and haven't had any problems getting an appointment when I need one. read more

Coming from someone who has never written an actual Yelp review before, this one is much deserved. I recently went to Coatroom Nails in ballston to get a full French manicure acrylic set, and they charged me $45 for the worst manicure I have ever gotten. It was incredibly rushed and oh man did it show. Maybe I'm just picky when it comes to nails, but that is the one thing I splurge on once a month so it's a huge disappointment when all that money goes to a sloppy job. They were very boxy-looking, the white tip was a straight line across my nail, and they hadn't even bothered to put gel on top (which I thought was the standard procedure for acrylic??), so I left extremely disappointed. And being the extremely in-confrontational person I am, after asking once for the woman to fix them I just gave up on my nail stylist, said thank you and left with half-assed nails. I saw the Starlight salon on my way home and decided to give it a shot and see if they could fix them, and WOW what an improvement. They actually take the time to make sure your nails are precise and exactly how you want them, and give you cute little snack bowls and drinks as soon as you sit down. Overall I was MUCH happier with my experience here, and will only be coming here to get my gel/acrylics done from now on. Thank you so much!! I've attached some before and after pictures for reference so you can see what a nail stylist who actually takes their time on you can do. i live in the building- if the customers at this nail salon new what was going on behind the scenes, they would never come. workers walk around the building (inside and outside) with no shoes. they come into the apartment building just to scream cough and spit onto the floor. i know multiple residents have complained, and i've seen multiple times that they return to work without washing their hands. they also step into the building to discuss customers they have very negatively. most alarmingly, i've seen them use the lobby bathroom and then return to work without washing their hands. there is no way this place passes health and safety. read more

I had SNS powder removed and a new powder manicure. The technician overused the electric nail file and my nails were burning - after I told her it was too much she continued to do so. The new manicure has gaps in the polish and despite pointing out the gaps to both the technician and the person at the checkout desk. Neither of them could fix it for me. I will not be coming back here and feel like it was overpriced for the quality of the work done. read more

Amazing amazing And nothing short of amazing. I booked an appointment seeing how they set the shop up with all the proper equipment to keep me safe. They checked my temperature when I came to the door and always kept me 6+ feet away from another customer. The quality of this service is fantastic. This is the first manicure in long while that almost a week in, I do not have a chip. They took a lot of care in my experience and even got to know more about me. I met Jenny and Helen when I was there and they made me feel so welcomed. I am a fan and will continue to support this wonderful business. read more

This place is a catch for its price! He manicures are $30 and regular pedicures are $35. Also the regular manicure is only $17. The prices are very nice for their services. They give you snacks while you wait and they check temperature of everyone who comes in to make sure so ones sick. This places can't do any complex nail art but if you're just looking for basic styling then this place is great for that. They really cleaned up my dead skin and cuticles, also they coated the polish on so it would last a long time. read more

I never get my nails done but had decided to come here with my mom and sister to get mani-pedis for my wedding - they were so patient with explaining our different options to us and the end result looked great with my henna! We got gel nails - it's been almost a week since we got them done and there has not been a single chip. They also provided hot green tea and these delicious Asian crackers to snack on while getting our nails done. A much needed relaxing experience, would definitely come back! read more

I went in during the Covid season and the place was spotless and extremely clean. Everybody has a mask on. Takes temperature upon entrance and there's a glass or plastic wall between you and the employee and other guests. Felt really safe. read more

I got my nails done on my birthday here and I couldn't be happier! It's exactly what I wanted. I chose dipping powder and my nail stylist was very attentive and did it flawlessly. This place is so great. Jenny and her staff are so friendly. I got a powder manicure and got the perfect color for the holidays! This place has taken much precaution for the pandemic through installing plexiglass on the manicure tables and hanging plastic curtains between the pedicure stations and the pedicurist. Last minute I decided to walk in for a pedicure and I was so pleased with the detail and time taken for a classic pedi. My cuticles needed a lot of work and I was grateful for the dedication throughout the pedicure to make sure they were perfect. I also enjoyed the care taken to clean off any nail polish that went onto my skin. Tools were new from a package, I felt the salon was super clean, and everyone was friendly on top of all that! Starlight Nails is attached to Randolph Towers, and the entrance is adjacent to the apartment's main entrance. If you live in Ballston/ Virginia Square area, it is very conveniently located. I found this place on Yelp, and requested for an appointment on Yelp. The y responded within the hour, and I was able to schedule an appointment to the date and time I had requested. My appointment was around 7pm on a weekday, and there were couple of other customers already there at the store. I had a regular manicure and chose the colors I had wanted right when I walked in. I also wanted a specific style/design, and Ms. Jenny, the owner, was able to accommodate to my needs. She's very nice and friendly. They also give you hand and shoulder massages with manicures. The service at Starlight Nails was great overall. I felt very comfortable and welcomed from the time I walked in to the time I left. They also provide complimentary snacks and teas throughout the service, which is always a plus. They also provide nail fix-ups for free if the nail art cracks or gets messed up. You can just walk in for the fixes. I would definitely recommend this place and will continue to use their services. read more

Small salon that you would miss if you didn't know what you were looking for. I came here for a pedicure on a snowy day. It's so small I would recommend making an appointment if you are in a time crunch. The salon itself is clean and the staff is very attentive- they put my things away, hung up my coat, etc. Helen did a great job on my toes and even a classic pedicure felt a bit lavish. They promptly asked what I would like to drink and offer a free truffle and some crackers- only salon I've been to that does this. At the end while my toes dried they offered a nice back massage. Only bummer was no ATM as I would have loved to give a cash tip- next time I'll bring cash. read more

I had an amazing experience! I was a walk in and they were able to take me right away. Everyone was incredibly friendly and sweet. My nails are beautiful. I got sns for $54. Reasonably priced. My nail tech noticed some nails weren't perfect after applying lotion and graciously redid the top clear coat to make sure they were perfect! I will definitely be going back and am happy to have found my new go-to nail place :) read more

I discovered this place on yelp. I'm a big yelper and take reviews very seriously so I had to check out a place with 5 stars. I tried other places for comparison and immediately regretted it. If you want to be treated like family...come to Starlight. The customer service is exceptional! Everyone greets you with a smile as you walk through the door. You're offered a cookie or cracker, candy and a drink. The ladies are very friendly and talk to you during the process. A pedicure ends with a hot towel and stone foot massage, and the manicure a back massage. Besides the amazing service, I get always get lot of compliments on my nails. Keep up the good work Janney and team! read more

I stop by Starlight regularly for manicures and the occasional polish change. For the OPI Shine polish collection, expect a $2 surcharge. OPI Shine polish is about 3x more expensive than regular lacquer so I felt the up charge was justified. The ladies at the salon are always very welcoming and friendly. I am always offered a beverage (they have soft drinks and hot tea!) and they offer cookies or a tea biscuit. It's a small shop but definitely one of the finer nail salons in Arlington. read more

Starlight Nails was recommended to me by a friend who had never been there herself but a friend of hers had. I decided to check it out and I'm so glad I did. It's within walking distance to my apartment and, even though it's a small spot, it's cute, clean, and they have a TON of variety. However, I knew I was hooked when: 1. I got a classic pedicure but it really seems like a spa pedi. Longer massages (who doesn't love a leg and foot massage?), they use a really nice scrub, and my feet are sooo soft afterwards. 2. Once you're done with your manicure, they GIVE YOU A BACK AND SHOULDER MASSAGE! In my 28 years of life, I've never experienced that after getting my nails done. I used to look forward to the arm and hand massage after a gel or SNS mani and thought it was the best, but seriously - this tops it (and they still do the hand and arm, too!). 3. They give you a chocolate and cookie on a cute plate as soon as you sit down. 4. They are extremely welcoming and Jenny, who I believe is the owner, is so sweet and really cares about her clients. I really do love Starlight. Also, in the pic attached, I wanted to do a mani of fall colors and Jenny didn't blink twice when I asked her to find 5 different jars of SNS powder to get it done. I highly, highly recommend this salon if you're in the neighborhood or just looking for somewhere new. I've since recommended it to several of my friends as well. :) read more

I went to the nail salon June 13 with 3 friends. I appreciated the steps taken to ensure our safety from Covid including having everyone wear masks and the temperature checks before entering. The pedicure was fine, nothing horrible or spectacular. However, I was not happy with the SNS application. I've been getting SNS for about 3 years now and have always had a manicure as part of the application. Here anything beyond applying the SNS is considered extra and is an additional $10. While my nails looked fine, I've noticed in the past week lifting on several nails, and the nail on my right index finger popped off. Typically this service lasts at least 2 weeks. I was excited to go based on the reviews but would defined not recommend. read more

This was my first visit here & I was absolutely blown away! Everyone greets you warmly as you walk in. The salon isn't large but it's cute & intimate. I was getting a regular manicure & the sweetest woman, Young, took care of me. I have done gel/acrylic for years & am in the process of growing out my natural nail. So they're short & weak. Young did an exceptionally great job of cleaning up my nails, all the cuticle nonsense & whatnot. The fact that my nails look decent is all her!! She was so friendly & chatted with me, all while doing an awesome job! The manicure included a hand massage, shoulder massage & I was offered a drink when I sat down & given cookies & a truffle. Since I was having a manicure, I didn't get a chance to enjoy them but will do so later! Young even checked on my nails while drying, to make sure that I was all set before I left! This was honestly the absolute best nail salon experience that I have ever had, and I've been having my nails done for almost 20 years! This place is so wonderful everyone in here is so nice. I think that they honestly overwork themselves because they just want to make everyone happy and get everyone in and looking great. I just got my toes done for a wedding that I'm going to be in and honestly my toes look phenomenal the lady took such great care of me and made sure that I was her first priority. They also give you snacks which is really cute and fun because who doesn't want to snack when you're getting your nails done. Every time someone walked in and made sure to accommodate their needs there was only one time that someone walked in and they couldn't get them in right away she only waited six minutes though. The manager or owner is always so nice. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to get their nails done. Sarah is awesome just FYI!!!! read more

My first Starlight experience coincided with my wedding! Booking was a breeze--I sent a message to book via Yelp. When it came time for our appointment, we had zero wait time. We were given a selection of snacks and chocolate, and the lovely ladies got to work on our hands! The gel manicure I had--in a neutral color--lasted just over 2 weeks before starting to show signs of wear/tear and general nail growth. My mom got a regular manicure in a neutral color; it was good for about a week. My only small quibble was that I had a bit of an in-grown nail on one finger that was exacerbated by the manicure and nail shaping. The result was that my husband had to do a bit of post-wedding prodding on my finger to ensure the swelling from the tiny in-grown portion would come down. It was just somewhat of a pity that the salon didn't take care of this--and, indeed, that the shaping of that particular nail seemed to exacerbate swelling rather than helping it. That caveat aside, the ladies were warm and wonderful...and my gel manicure long-lasting. I'll plan to go back again soon! read more

I had an appointment with Sue today and she was very pleasant, meticulous, and efficient. She did a great job with my pedi and I loved my dip mani because it wasn't too thick which is what I wanted. Also, everyone was very helpful and accommodating as I am 7 months pregnant and have a bit of trouble moving around. They even helped me put my shoes back on! Great friendly service which is why I will be coming back! read more

My simple manicure was done very well! I don't think it was anything special though. I had one bowl of lukewarm water for soaking, and the nail polish started to chip in 2 days. Also, the manicure is a great price at $17, but then a gel mani (essentially the same amount of work) jumps to $35? and SNS is $45-50? These prices just seem outrageous compared to other salons that are much bigger and more luxurious read more

So... all the great reviews that people have are true! The snacks were really sweet and Jenny was incredibly kind. I wanted nails before I went on vacation, so I'm stuck with them, but I was really disappointed with the outcome. Basically I walked in and wasn't helped for about 15 minutes even though I was seated in a chair. I've only gotten my nails done once before and it was a great experience (also based off of a Pinterest photo), but at Starlight it seemed as though no one knew how to do SNS nails. I got moved around from chair to chair while they figured out who could do the picture I showed the best. Jenny wanted to extend my nails even though they were a good length already to just start the dip, and when she was filing down my nails, she didn't dust off the nail bits that were on my nails and instead painted over them, causing them to be bumpy and uneven (the sparkle in my photo is the nail bits left over, not the polish itself). The nails were also off center and i'm sure that they are going to fall off/chip much faster than my other SNS nails (which painted over my whole nail) rather than just the tip. TLDR; The pictures speak for themselves and I'm really upset that I paid $69 for something that looked nothing like what I wanted. read more

If you're looking for a place that pays incredible attention to detail in the Arlington area, you should absolutely go here. They take their time and care about your experience more than any other place in the area. I LOVE my nails and will be telling all my friends to go. This was my first time at Starlight Nails and I will absolutely be coming back! I had a regular pedicure and expected to be rushed in and out on a Saturday afternoon, but the woman did a GREAT job and I didn't feel rushed at all. The polish was spot on and nothing needed to be fixed. While my nails were drying, I talked to Jenny, the owner, who was extremely helpful and welcoming. The service here was good, they were very nice and seemed to take their time with my nails. However, it's been 7 days that I've had this gel manicure on and they're already cracking and peeling. Not to mention, I got my nails painted white and the polish is completely discolored. I don't even know what's happening but you can clearly see in the pics that something in the polish is separating and it looks terrible. I paid $45 and am going to have to remove these ASAP.
