Had them come out with home warranty, the guy poked around and quoted me 12.5k for a new AC. Didn't do anything at all, just said he can't fix it, of course AHS warranty denied my claim. So I had to find a qualified HVAC guy to come in service my AC. He was able to diagnose and fix the problem for 150 dollars, he also said don't waste your money on a new HVAC system! read more

Valentin is a real professional! We needed a new furnace. Since our home was built in 1953 the ducting has asbestos! We had the furnace and ducting replaced. Yes, it took 2 technicians all day. But they got the work done and left my wife and I very happy. Valentin went over the operation of the furnace and advised us on proper maintenance. Not cheap, but fair pricing! Now that I think about it, it was more than fair...it was quality! read more

Did not end up using Starlight even though it was referred and contracted through home warranty (ahs). I feel that because it goes through home warranty, they mark up the price excessively and try to nickel and dime everything. Gave me my out of pocket quote that included home warranty covering a portion. Found another place that did it for third of the that quote (without using home warranty). The tech they sent seemed nice but based off the pricing, I would recommend thinking twice about using this company. I would, however, definitely recommend getting a few quotes, Even if it means you might end up losing $75 service request fee since referred via your home warranty. read more

I would give them zero stars if I could. This company was contracted by my homeowners insurance to repair an AC unit that suddenly stopped working. The technician came out and after a few minutes told me that my unit could not be repaired. His official diagnosis was that my "condenser is overheating and leaking refrigerant due to a nearby sprinkler" and we need a new system with a price tag of $8-12k. My insurance denied the claim because the technician said the sprinkler did the damage. We have had artificial grass and all hardscaping in our yard for over 4 years and no sprinklers have run in this time. My question was why would this cause a problem two weeks ago? Also, aren't these units supposed to hold up to the elements? My insurance agreed and offered to send a different company out for a second opinion. When the second company came, they had a correct diagnosis, a new part installed (the capacitor) and my unit up and running within minutes. These people are dishonest and only want to sell you a new very expensive unit unnecessarily! Beware! read more

My heater suddenly stopped working (DURING THE WINTER SEASON), and I needed help, pronto. After reading reviews, I decided to call. Sasha was very kind, amiable, and assured me that everything will be taken care of. He's truly a pleasure to do business with. After talking with Sasha about the unfortunate heater situation, I scheduled an appointment. They showed up within the promised appointment window, and the service man called me when he was on his way (very considerate). They were able to repair the heater on the spot, which was a fantastic relief during this cold weather. It was frigid cold in my house, and I felt like I was going to turn into a human Popsicle. I am extremely satisfied with their fantastic work, exceptional service, great communication, and prompt response. They truly go above and beyond to take care of their clients. They don't set the bar, they are the bar. Many thanks to Sasha and his team! read more

I am a customer of american home shield. Starlight was assigned to me they called the next day and wanted to come out immediately but they have a 4 hour time window. I told them I would wait to get their first appt at 8:00 am. I had them promise to have the tech call 15 minutes before hand to have them allowed into the gate. Today at 8:07 I called and again at 8;23 no answer on phone at the office. I texted no response for 20 minutes. Finally The office person called me and said that they NEVER would make such an appt. I told him that I specifically was told by waiting a week I was to get the 8:00 am slot. Anyway he said his tech was at parts store which is 1/2 hour away from my home and it was already 8:30 am and or he said he had to finish a job from the night before. I asked why didn't someone call me. NO answer they try their best was the answer. Basically wasted an hour of my time for incompetence. I cancelled my appt and will look for another company that priorities service not excuses;. UPDATE I just spoke to Matt about his comments below. There is another employee there who totally agreed with my reasonable request. Matt called me a psycho. They have some real problems over there stay away if you are looking for service. read more

I was dreading another repair through our home warranty, but somehow i felt like i won thr lottery! Sebastian from Starlight HVAC was awesome, respectful, knowledgable, professional and detail oriented. Even if the problem was a fuse on an old unit, he still checked everything, worked efficiently and still gave me a reasonable estimate of what to expect from my ac unit. Working in the medical field, you know when youve met someone that you can trust, and I can say if Sebastian is a reflection of starlight hvac, then this company is the best! read more

I hired this company to come check an old hvac system at my new house because it stopped working during the renovation. After paying a high diagnostic fee, they told me it needed to be replaced and "they are not going to come back to service it, unless I agree to replace it". I didn't believe that, and called another company. Turns out a wire in thermostat want connected properly. The 2nd company saved me $15,000 read more

This review has long been over due I wanted to be certain and with facts presented to me by another legit AC contractor and southern California Gas company this is my story... I first got a hold of starlight because of America Home Shield (AHS) warranty who I've had for more then 14years, I contacted them with AC issue and my central Air was not working. They quickly got a contractor and that was Starlight HVAC, I was as given an appointment and Anton from Starlight came to my home within a couple of days Anton fixed well band aid my AC issue, but this is a American Home Shield issue they never replace, fix and fix until it explodes and maybe then they will replace it once again this is not Starlight issue, My problem with starlight after Anton "fixed" my AC issue he then proceeded to tell me that my furnace was not up to code, that he had to reroute some pipes and make its 100% legal or up to code per standards of what I don't know , he also contacted a man named Sasha who spoke better English so he can explain to me that my furnace was not up to code and it will have to be fixed or Anton will close the valve and I will not have heating or AC these are their words not mine, so I asked Sasha how to to bring it up to code he said since Anton is their already he will only charge your $125 to be sure it's up to code, Anton got some pipes went to "fix" my furnace and made sure it was up to code. A few months passes by maybe I had another AC issue called AHS they sent another contractor not Starlight they fixed the issue and noticed and asked me "what's up to your crazy piping on the furnace, told him it was to bring it up to code, he laughed and said how much did you pay I said $125 he laughed some more so I was just like ok what ever. So now I had my place fumigated Southern California Gas company came and not just a tech an actual engineer because they wanted to see how my townhome community outside gas system problem or whatever issue none related to my home but I asked they guy if he can turn back on my furnace and make sure to see if it's up to code... he looked at me like I was crazy I showed the Southern California gas man my furnace he said who the hell did this pipes it's just like they routed it to basically do the same he said their is no code Thier was no violation as I had the same as the townhome next to mine and it was fine he said you where just "taken" these AC guys just take money on people threaten to shut off their system on hot days or cold days cause you need it, so basically now I paid an actual contractor not from AHS $500 to fix $125 starlight charged me thanks to Anton and Sasha , I hope yelpers you read this review and know if starlight comes you will know what kinda people your expecting As for starlight good luck karma is something else I'll tell you that .. thanks Update to sahsa's rant, Instead of owning up to it , and just apologize you take the higher road and bashing a customer speaks highly of your customer service, American home shield also stated to me that starlight has numerous complaints when it comes to up selling a customer basically making unneeded repairs to charge customers out of warranty , my home was not build in the 50's , 60's, 70's , nor 80,s, according to Southern California Gas company my newer home is more then compliant and that's the end of that, I was not in any code violation as my other town home neighbors would have been shut down when the Gas company came to turn on all our gas after fumigation this are just facts starlight just wanted to make more money period... I have also filed a complaint with the BBB , and yes Karma Sasha ........... read more

This company was chosen by home warranty to fix our ac that has been leaking. There estimate to fix the ac unit was $12,510. So we got a second opinion and it was way different than what starlight was going to charge. The technician that came out from starlight compared to the second opinion company had very different opinions on how to fix the unit. We are glad we got a second opinion because we don't just have $12,510.00 laying around, and that is our cost with home warranty. The second opinion company sent in there results and Starlight refused to do the work that the second company recommended. So we decided not to go with Starlight. The refusal to do the work is what is frustrating and the amount that they were trying to charge. $12k to patch up a ac system. Our ac went out in October, and it's almost December now. I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND STARLIGHT!!!!!! read more

Jan 31, 2022, Starlight was assigned to us by American Home Shield (AHS) to look at our HVAC as the heater would not go on. The tech said the gas valve was not working and that it was clogged due to a non code sediment trap. AHS refused to repair. The tech, who did not put his name on the inspection sheet, gave us a quote to bring the trap to code of $365 plus a new gas valve & ignitor (sic) $965. Reality check: I put in the a new trap with black iron piping for $65. A new gas valve set me back $400. Everything is working fine. What was wrong with the gas valve? It was entirely clean...not a speck of contaminants in the internal filter. I did a continuity check on its two internal relays and found one had failed. So, the entire "inspection" was incorrect and I was out nearly $500 that I shouldn't have been plus the $125 copay to AHS. Be aware, but you can judge for yourself. read more

I have American home shield and they were supposed to come out to check my heating unit. I called starlight and they said they can't do the work on my unit because it's on the roof. I have a 3 story condo. They didn't even call to ask about it. I have access to my roof through a ladder and hatch in the master walk in closet on the 3rd floor. I've had other companies come in the past to do service with no problem. They didn't even try to contact me to ask about it. They just sent something to American home shield that the service was complete. Horrible customer service. read more

Please beware of this company! They were contracted by AHS to come take a look at our AC unit. Our unit was 30+ years old and completely rusted from the outside and inside, including the compressor. The representative (Anton) told us that the best way to move forward is to replace the whole unit. When they provided the report to AHS, they only said that the compressor would need to be replaced. Starlight was quick to respond via txt, to my service request on a Friday. They scheduled my service for the very next Monday, which was great as my furnace was off during this cold weather. The technician called me when he was on the way and I also received an email, this was all within the scheduled time. I was very pleased with the service technician Sebastian. Sebastian was polite and respectful putting on shoe coverings when he entered our home. He listened carefully when I described the problem and carefully worked through checking the system. Even after checking the system and not finding a fault he had the patience to listen to the system noise with me again. Finally he removed a scent Filter from inside the Blower casing. Then the noise stopped!, it appears this was the problem. Somewhat surprising as I have always had these air scent filters in the system and never experienced this issue. Nevertheless the unit is now working and not making the noise. Grateful that Sebastian took the time to resolve this issue and respect my concerns. This is an old original furnace, but Sebastian, unlike many other contractors did not condemn the unit just because of its age, he actually said the unit was well maintained. He was always polite and gave me good information. Thank you Starlight for being professional, taking time to solve our problem, providing good advice and options, being polite and being respectful of our home. I would not hesitate to call Starlight for any HVAC repairs or service. read more

Prompt service, technician was thorough and cleaned up after himself. Also offered to wear shoe protectors which was very much appreciated.

These guys were assigned by AHS to fix my HVAC not turning on. They did not call, they did not show up. What they did do was label the service as completed, citing access issues to the roof because they could not access the roof from the street. If they had actually called me, or actually came inside the unit, you know, if they made the most minimum of effort, they would have found the access to the unit, which is through my back patio. Even AHS could not get a response via phone or email from this office, to finish the job. Absolutely terrible, lazy and incompetent. read more

This company y has horrible service don't care and didn't fix anything. I venture to guess that since AHS hires them them they are not worth the time. What a worthless company. Technician was sent out by our home warranty company. Technician showed up with a clipboard. Didn't run any tests and stated he would have to remove the roof to get to the ducts. Huh!? Reported to the home warranty that it was "abuse" of system and the entire system would need to be replaced. Most likely because he didn't know what he was doing or way in over his head. I contested with the home warranty who sent out another technician from a different company. This technician came out and stayed for an hour diagnosing the issue with numerous tools and devices. He determined a totally different diagnosis which is a new compressor and coil. I do not recommend Starlight for any of your HVAC needs. Stay away. Services: Repair AC, Repair HVAC read more

Had a home inspection done on a house for sale. The cooling and heating wasn't working so we called Starlight out to check out the unit. They said we needed a new compressor, a coolant fill and threw in some bogus error codes that needed to be fixed... The next day we had another company come out and they said it was just the compressor and coolant. Starlight is the type of dude that will check under your car during an oil change, break something off, bring it to you and say "Yep, here's your problem Miss, the flux capacitor is shot!" No wonder y'all have an "F" on the Better Business Bureau website... Crooks never prosper. read more

This place is a joke. Unfortunately, we have currently been assigned this contractor through AHS. Although this contractor disagreed with the contractor initially sent to us by AHS, which was to our benefit, this company does not deserve any stars. Vitali has been sent to our premise two times already. The first time, he appeared to have done a good job of diagnosing a small part of the problem we were having, but the second time around, when he came to actually repair it, he ended up leaving our furnace inoperable. After arriving here at 9:00 AM this last time, and attempting to leave by 9:04 AM, I stopped him. I advised him that our furnace STILL takes several attempts to crank up, and that our fan turns on even when the thermostat says it's off. He was unable to fix this problem. While wearing gloves, Vitali handed me a switch that had an outlet. He put it in my hand to shock me not once, but twice. After I dropped it once, he picked it up from the floor, only to drop it back in the palm of my hand to shock me again. Also, based on my conversation with Vitali, he did not need to go to school to learn this to work at Starlight HVAC. When I brought up my problems to Vitali -- namely, the heater & fan issues, Vitali told me it was "normal" for this furnace unit. Today, Vitali was supposed to show up between 12pm - 3pm, but he did never did. We are frustrated beyond belief that our thermostat now says "Thermostat doesn't have enough power for Wi-Fi" due to AHS sending out someone from this company that does not know what he is doing. Will provide updates as I receive them. read more

Well, they are perfectly nice people but charge almost more than double for their services than competitors when working with AHS insurance. If AHS assigns them to you, I highly recommend you request a different company (for larger issues). For example: They are quoting $115 per pound of refrigerant when competitors at the low end are charging $50 and on the high end $70 (these are 5-star rated competitors with hundreds of reviews). When I did an across the board line item check for the cost of each item that wasn't covered under my insurance, all competitors were at least half of the price (sometimes significantly less). Don't be fooled, they are just trying to re-coup costs of the discounts they have to offer AHS to work with them. read more

This company was assigned to check my HVAC by American Home Shield which covers my home warranty during the recent heat wave (92-96 degree temperature for a week or longer). The technician came and reported that there was no current between the thermostat and the condenser. He recommended that we pay for a transmittal thermostat at $1255 (in addition to our $100 copay and insurance reimbursement). Because the heat wave was intolerable , I contact AHS 2 days later and was advised that they had yet to receive a report from this company. In the interim, we mentioned this issue to a friend who happened to be familiar with HVAC issues. He then checked the connection and found that there was indeed current on the AC/thermostat line (which the repairman reported to be not accessible) and suggested that that the capacitor be replaced. Given that it would have cost $1255 plus tax, we replaced the capacitor (Amazon $40) and hola, the system worked instantly. I don't know how common this practice has been with this company or they had just sent me a technician (L) who was either totally incompetent or honesty-challenged. Because of this, we had to endure the 90+ temp and 90+ humid weather for more than a week. I have lodged my concern with AHS but would like to share this information with others . But judging from other reviews, this practice appears to be in the DNA of this company. read more

These guys are useless. They were paid by my home insurance to fix my heater. They came out twice, the first time they just reset the switch that was tripped. When I told them that someone else had done that, they said, "I dunno let's try again" and left. When the heater stopped working an hour later (like I told them it would) they had to order a part and a week later replaced the switch and when that didn't work they said sorry get someone with a taller ladder to look at the roof. I did and those people actually looked at my heater and saw that the heater was leaking air on that switch Starlight replaced and said it was an easy fix. They just had to seal it. It took the other people like 20 minutes to fix the problem without going on the roof. Starlight could have saved me 3 weeks of no heat if they just took the time to think. read more

Starlight is contracted with our homeowner warranty, but I am definitely going to use them regardless because nothing is ever covered under the home warranty anyway. We had a power outage and when power was restored, we had no AC. I called the company who installed our AC two years ago and they could not come for a week! So I called our warranty company and was given Starlight's name to call. (They actually had come when the AC needed replacing-not covered under warranty- but their price for replacement was higher than another quote I received so I did not use them. I guess I should have! Anyway, I called them and though we had to suffer a few days, they were able to come sooner than the other company. They even notified me the day before service that they could come in an earlier window. Vitali called to let me know when he would arrive. He is very nice, well,-presented, and polite. He diagnosed a short and fixed that easily, but he also showed me where rodents had been chewing the wires. I asked if he could fix that and keep that from happening (apparently other company should have put the wires in a conduit). He said he could do it but he wanted to check to see if he could get warranty to cover it first (of course not). Yet, I was only too happy to,pay to have him fix it then vs waiting for a certain problem later. He did the job quickly and showed me what he had done. I was very happy with my experience start to finish and though the pricing might be a bit higher than some competitors, I was left with the feeling that you get what you pay for.
