This summer, one of our A/C units stopped working - the fan blades wouldn't spin and the unit just made a buzzing noise. Since it wasn't a particularly hot summer, we waited to call for service. I submitted a claim through AHS and they assigned Starlight HVAC to check it out. Sebastian showed up on time and quickly found the issue - a bad A/C capacitor. Since I know nothing about AC units, he took time to explain the issue, showed me the faulty part, and quickly replaced it. It took him maybe 10 minutes to diagnose and fix the problem. Very professional, knowledgeable, and personal. I highly recommend Starlight HVAC and Sebastian! read more

Edited to add:,I spoke with AHS on July 23, 2026, since Starlight was forced to turn in their report. They lied on their report and stated a home built in 2021 is missing a surge protector, instead of stating the real issue which was a circuit board needs replacing. If this was the case, why didn't they say that to us when they were at our home during the diagnosis. Imagine -I could have called the builder and told them, hey you forgot to put a surge protector. This is a scam/upsell and an embarrassment to honest HVAC companies. I requested services through AHS on July 14, 2026. They sent a technician on July 14, 2026, who clearly stated that our mini/split system needs a new circuit board. They said the part should be in within one week. I contact them on July 21, 2026, for an update (during 90 degree F weather and multiple heat advisories) and they stated they would not come and fix the circuit board unless we also put in a surge protector (the technician never said a surge protector was needed -he specifically said no one does it, but to be safe consider it--t was an upsell tactic). We politely declined the upsell and then stated that we look forward to the circuit board repair. No contact was made from Starlight to AHS, no report was ever sent from Starlight to AHS. I called Starlight on July 21, 2026, for an update and even then the report had not been sent to AHS which means a part was never ordered. I then contacted AHS and was told by AHS that Starlight HVAC never sent the report to AHS. This means a part couldn't get ordered anyway, and had I not called Starlight to get an update (I spoke with a man who kept saying that they would only come if we agreed to the surge protector), our case would have still been sitting on some desk somewhere. This is unacceptable. DO NOT USE STARLIGHT if you are using a home warranty plan and bottom line, IDONT USE THEM because they upsell as part of their SCAM. I asked Starlight's rep to please speak to a "specialist", a manager or the owner and was told no. read more

Starlight came out to my home on behalf of my warranty company. It was a complete farce. Their only goal was to deny coverage and propose all new systems that they would sell. Starlight came up with an obviously bogus & unsubstantiated report. A report that a 2nd could see through. The report was embarrassing to Starlight. How people hire employees like that is hard to understand. Fortunately, I am communicating with American Home Shield's CEO directly. It's sad that Starlight employs people with so little integrity and focused on extracting as much money as they think they can get away with. Don't use them. Scammers... read more

Before I give my review, I don't like leaving these types of reviews. I promise I try my best to give 5 stars but this one fell short. On November 4th I had a HVAC Heater tune up scheduled. Their arrival window was between 10:00 and 2:00 and they showed up smack dab in the middle, A PLUS for that. They assessed our unit and told us that it was older, but that it was doing well and working. The technician advised for a Compressor replacement which we gladly did. The technician completed the work and left. Fast forward to 1 hour later when I went to turn on our AC which we had been using prior to their arrival. The application gave a Delay and when I went downstairs to our thermostat I heard a pop, smelt burning and then got a massive error message. No air flow, no fans turning on, nothing. We called them back and November 6th they came back out. They re-assed the issue and said that they fixed it, but also that a circuit was tripped and then showed me a burn mark in the same room. They told me that the circuit should not be turned back on and to get an electrician out (see later story below). They promptly left. So now we have NO A/C... NO HEAT.... and NO power to our washer, dryer, and entire master bedroom/bathroom. Fast forward to the electrician coming and him asking did someone touch these wires recently? When I stated no, we just had an HVAC tune up they told us these wires were recently redone, and that the washer would not have worked previously if they were done like this. The circuit would have tripped much sooner. They got the power back on, but the AC / Heat STILL didn't work. Once the circuit was fixed we had another company come out to get a second opinion on the HVAC. They immediately saw the issue and stated a wire / connection was not complete, and if the technician double checked their work it would of been an easy solve. This took a full week to get solved and we were in a rush as we were going out of town on vacation. The technicians were FRIENDLY and nice, but the quality of work was not great. I am all about people so a 2 star feels generous, but I would not hire them again for a job. Overall: 2 stars if that! Covered by Home Shield, but multiple visits means multiple days and time off of work in an economy where that doesn't feel feasible for some or easy. read more

Do Not Use! Customer service is terrible. I would give zero stars if I could. The home warranty sent them out to assess an ac unit. it needs to be replaced. No problem. they have 24 hrs to report back to the warranty company. it is 7 days later and....crickets. The warranty company has called 4 times leaving messages and Starlight refuses to respond to them I called on day 6 and was told they would get back to me the same day relative to the delay. Well.......crickets. BTW..they almost never answer their phone. If they can't fulfill the most basic requirements how can you trust them to install a $8,000.00 piece of equipment? If you have a warranty that uses them demand somebody else. read more

I previously used this company through American Home Warranty in 2025 for a circuit board replacement. While that repair was successful, my recent experience as a private cash-paying customer was disappointing and felt like an aggressive upsell. After paying a $125 diagnostic fee for a cooling issue, I was told the condenser coil has a refrigerant leak caused by copper piping rubbing against the aluminum. This is a structural vibration issue that should have been identified during their visual inspection last year while under warranty. Catching this issue would've been a few hundred dollar cost in cash or via home warranty; failing to mention this issue led to a total loss of refrigerant (1000 usd+ on refrigerant alone). Clear that the technician was not interested in doing the job, unless a full replacement. The solutions were either: 1) A $4,000 "non-guaranteed" repair (nearly 4x the market rate for a patch and recharge). 2) A $12,500 full system replacement. The value I got was the in-person diagnostics, but not an appropriate cost effective solution. I got to know thoroughly why the A/C unit wasn't working, which is what I did pay for. The technician also used misleading "scare tactics" regarding the 2026 R-410A phase-out to push for a full replacement, despite the fact that these systems can still be legally serviced. If you are looking for honest, preventative maintenance or reasonably priced repairs, I would suggest looking elsewhere. They seem more interested in selling new units than standing behind their previous diagnostic work. They are great when working with American Home Warranty requiring repairs and maintenance, but without a home warranty: repairs and maintenance is secondary to a full replacement. read more

Starlight HVAC - Air Compressor after installation. - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Irvine, California

We were referred to starlight HVAC by friends when our furnace stopped working during a California cold snap They responded quickly and immediately found the problem Sebastian respectfully explained the issue and replaced the faulty part with craftsmanship Before entering the house he covered his shoes and carefully cleaned up after himself. Two months later we explored a similar situation and Sebastian again responded. This time it was a different part that needed replacing. He again replaced it but this time did not charge us - not even for the service call let alone the part. Such great customer service. I highly recommend Starlight for all HVAC repairs. read more

"I had an awful experience with Starlight via American Home Shield. The technician arrived and, after wasting time, I finally told him I already had a diagnosis and wanted to hear his take. We've had our HVAC system serviced annually by another company, and during their most recent visit, they provided a long list of issues and recommended a full system replacement--a major expense. Since we have a policy with American Home Shield, they sent Starlight HVAC for a second opinion. Sebastian from Starlight HVAC came out today, thoroughly inspected our A/C and furnace, and found no issues. He told us the system could easily last another 5 to 10 years. We truly appreciate his honesty and professionalism. It's refreshing to work with someone who's not just trying to upsell unnecessary work. read more

*********COMPLTELEY UNETHICAL COMPANY*********** I was assigned to use Starlight by my homeowners company to work on my hydronic AC system. They came out, only spent a few minutes and said that my system was not working because it was low on freon but they would gladly add 3lbs of freon for $570. Startlight also btw is not qualified, licensed, or certified to work on hydronic systems. Look at other yelp reviews and you will find other reviewers who had the same issue with Starlight claiming to be licensed and certified to work on hydronic systems when they are not. They did not do any sort of a leak detection test and the only way a system would be low on freon would be if their was a leak. They claimed my system leaked freon from the fill valves as an excuse and then they purposely turned off the main breaker of my AC system so it would not turn back on making it appear broken. I knew something was fishy so I called my homeowner repair company and asked them to send out someone else that was licensed to work on hydronic systems for a second opinion. The new AC company came out, did a leak detection test, and showed me that the system was purposely shut off and then turned my system back on and told me I did not need any freon. Stralight HVAC are complete scammers and purposely shut my system off so they could come back and unnecessarily charge me $570 for freon that I didn't even need in the first place. BTW, even if I would have needed 3lbs of freon, the new AC company told me it would only be around half the cost. If your Warranty Company assigns you to Starlight, call them back immediately and have them re-assign you to someone else that is ethical and won't try to to rip you off. read more

Unfortunately, I have a scam warning. They were dispatched by American Home Shield, on an insurance case. I have a hydronic a/c system, and they are not qualified to handle them, they don't have the plumbing license. Yet, they came. I have a system that has worked for many years, but now seems to be leaking. They did not do a leaking test. Their report back was that a cap (which costs 5 dollar) is missing on the outside, and that is the cause of the problem, and the insurance company happily is using a clause saying systems with missing parts are not covered. This company now is telling me they will replace the a/c with a completely different type of a/c (heat pump) and offer it for $10,595. Upon check, a similar size a/c costs one to two thousand on google. So, they are not even qualified for my system, yet they write a report so the insurance company can try skipping coverage, and then they want me to pay a huge sum for a system that is different from all other units. Worse, if you read the one-star reviews, you will see a pattern where they give an unprofessional diagnosis that helps the insurance company reject coverage, offering a system for top dollars instead. The OP then finds a second company that comes in and is able to fix the problem. Scam Warning!!! Keep away! Thank you. read more

Most horrible contractor I have ever worked with. Avoid if possible. Very poor customer experience with the "technician" named Vitalii. This technician came up with hasty and incorrect diagnosis of the HVAC/thermostat issue I'm facing, and keep complaining about the situation in stead of trying to fix it. (I don't know if the guy is having a bad day or something). When I was respectfully pointing out the incorrectness of his diagnosis, i.e., the thermostat has no battery in it, and the 4-wire configuration has been working fine using an adapter at the furnace side, the technician was rude enough to say something like "if you know about it all, why don't you fix it?". I have never worked with a contractor so unprofessional before. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company. read more

Stay away from this company- this is all I can say for my review. I gave them my first chance couple of months ago because I had a free tune up for my a/c from my home insurance company. the guy came spend maybe 5 minutes and he left, he didn't do anything to tuneup my 30 years old unit. this time I was like ok lets give them another chance. My homeowner insurance gave them a call they didn't answer, I got their phone number gave them a call no one answered. my a/c was down and needed someone urgent coming to my house. Saturday someone texted me and said appointment is at 10am to 2pm Monday, that means I have to have no a/c until morning. I asked them if they can come in the afternoon because of my work and he said no. I said ok let's do this appointment and have your team come at 12, I will be available after 12 or cancel this appointment and I can go with another vendor. he literally said your appointment is cancelled. if you can't run your business, close it down and give this chance to another business. maybe close down your business for a week and signup for some customer service classes and then reopen your business and I will make sure to give you another chance. so sorry for the owner. Next day I saw they marked it as completed instead of canceling my appointment and I had to pay $100 service fee. read more

My a/c, fan and heater unit stopped working this week. American Home Shield set up my service request and I immediately got a text for an available window the next day! Super fast. Sebastian came, he was professional, respectful, knowledgeable, he had great attitude and he wore shoe covers without me asking! He immediately went to work and tried 3 things and my unit was fixed. Highly recommend this company! I had another highly rated company come out before Starlight HVAC and they definitely didn't do anything, that's why American Home Shield had to send another pro out to fix my unit again. And SEBASTIAN from Starlight HVAC fixed it quickly for me, he was polite, took care of my property and carpet as he worked, he was clean, he didnt judge how messy my house was, he tweaked my furnace even though the builder had set up zoning incorrectly, also the builder did not install an important piece part that kept this unit safe. Sebastian didn't just blamed the builder like the other HVAC company that came first, did nothing but just blamed builder (why does American Home Shield hire those guys?!?), Sebastian used his knowledge and fixed it, made it safer for us to use the heater, explained situation well, told us he set zoning the best way he could as if this was his house, and of course he emphasized the importance of that missing piece part and the risks without having it. He recommended it installed ASAP for our safety. Sebastian's concern for us, and the way he took care of our HVAC like this was his house really showed us how wonderful he was as a person and a professional. Wish I read the negative reviews (seems very true) before I scheduled my tune-up with them through Home Warranty with Starlight HVAC, they send someone to do tune up and of course suggested another service for $100, that's the not why I'm giving a 1 star here. After that tune-up the technician didn't turn the damper back on for the whole master bedroom, so we had no heat at all after that service (rather funny that a tune-up actually tuned down our heating?) and then we asked for them to come back and check the issue, not only does a different technician not able to identify the true issue after inspecting the space, he even suggested us to get a big HVAC company to come for diagnosis because they can't find an easy human error. What a coincidence that one technician messes up your HVAC and another can't find the issue? We called a different HVAC company and they were able to find the issue and turn the damper back on at no charge, that's how I see a difference. If you need help, please just go to a different company, don't waste time or money for a company that just doesn't seem qualified to do their work. read more

Very unscrupulous service. They were sent at the end of April 2017 to respond to a busted/flooded furnace powering my AC on my behalf by American Home Shield. (yes, they work for the warranty folks) Starlight reported to American Home Shield that we had a busted coil and couldn't fix the problem (which is fine and not the point) The point was that the coil was busted. I ultimately went with another company (Sorry, Starlight) to replace the entire A/C and went back to American Home Shield to get reimbursement. Since Sasha lacks integrity, and is kind of a nutter, he told them my problem was just "heat" and so thanks to Sasha I was unable to have my claim honored and got zero dollars. Read below where Starlight just sent me an email saying our call was allegedly for "heating" In late April in California on a day that was 87 degrees. If AHS labeled it a "heating call" when it was obviously the coil (they said so) and the A/C why didn't Sasha report the correction/mistake on the work order to American Home Shield? And such a sweet letter to a customer, read it folks. Edit: Read how the owner talks to customers. Check out this bananas reply to this my review. He is a bully. read more

My home insurance sent them over for the second time (every time I charged $75) to look into the vibration of our gas furnace. The technician saw the issue and said the furnace needs to get replaced because the source of vibration is coming from the motor and can't get fixed. but in the report, they submitted to the insurance company they said they didn't find any issue and this was just noise and noise issues are not covered by American Home Shield! The first time their technician said the vibration is because the filer was not replaced (I had the air filter for 6 months)! I bought a new filter and again the motor vibration was there. when I called the insurance company for the second time regarding the same issue, they charged me again! since Starlight mentioned it was no issue!! I paid $150 plus buying a new filter which was not needed for $30. Save yourself time and money and don't use this company.
