I figured I'd pull into the nearest gas station and then get some juice and a candy bar to hold me over before I went home and fixed myself some real food. The gas attendant ran my card through the gas pump machine, and when he came back, I was asking him if I could but something at the store, noticing the light was off. He said, "It's not a store. It's a coffee shop and they are closed." I was at a loss for words because I didn't know how I was going to make it to the next location to find something to drink or eat as my adrenaline and every other hypo symptom was starting to stir. I told him, "My blood sugar is low. I need something sweet." I felt silly telling him this because it's very personal to me. He thought fast, and asked the Espresso guy if he could get me something sweet. The espresso guy asked me if I'd like some muffin tops but I asked if I could get a sweet drink as it gets hard for me to chew or swallow when I get like this. He asked me what flavor I want d and I said, "No preference, just a sweet drink." The gas station guy brought me the drink from the espresso shop and they told me it was on them when I asked how to pay. That was super nice and I am grateful there's helpful.people out there. I pulled over to drink the drink they made and called husband to tell him I'm ok and will be home soon.

There is a lot of seating and the booth I sat at had an outlet that also had usb-a and usb-c ports which was thoughtful. The building is new and the bathrooms are super clean with multiple stalls. There is a free parking garage just across the street which was great! I ordered a hojicha latte, which was good but felt at $7 it was pricey. It wasn't anything extraordinary but I enjoyed having a comfy place to work and not having to worry about paying for parking or moving my car. I've recently tried a couple coffee shops in Portland that just left me disappointed and was surprised to find such a great cafe workspace in Salem and something I wish Portland had! Next time I'm back in town I'll come back to try their food items too!

The lane we were directed into was not clearly marked, and by that point we were already stuck in line with no easy way to switch. I explained that we had already been waiting and that the confusion was due to unclear signage, but the staff refused to take our order, saying it would disrupt their queue. The real value in Starbucks isn't the coffee (it is really good though), the real value is having a place to sit and enjoy the sights and smells of a comfortable coffee shop. I know it's corporate, but this Starbucks especially feels like a neighborhood coffee shop where people go to hang out with other people like them. If you're in downtown Salem looking for a cup of coffee, this is worth the extra walk.
