barista put my iced coffee in a warm cup (melted the ice) and then called me a "demon woman" and threatened my firstborn son

I'm not a vegan. I'm about as close to being a vegan as a…read morefish is to climbing a tree and eating a banana. I'm as carnivorous as it gets. This is my Vegan Story at Cafe Crema. Stepping into others' imprinted snow footsteps trying not to slip and fall onto the newly fallen snow, we made it into Cafe Crema in West Vancouver. The first thing with this place that gets you is the vibe. Mood lighting, lovely high tables and plenty of space. You can sit there, and daydreaming in this place is highly encouraged preferably with a glass of bold red and a slice of Margherita Pizza. I didn't really know what I wanted, which rarely happens, but this was one of those special occasions where you just let spontaneity take over. I was going to just have a coffee, but as I approached the register area to order my Americano, I kept seeing this glimmer in the corner of my eye. It was quite bright, but just a glimmer, so I looked over and it was just this muffin sitting there in the display. I asked the cashier what muffin that was, and I was told that it was the Vegan Banana Chocolate Muffin. "Vegan?" I asked. He said, "Yup." I almost walked away trying to find something else, but the damn thing looked so good. So, reluctantly I decided to try a Vegan Muffin. I said to myself, "well, what's the worst that could happen? I'll just throw it out if I don't like it." That winking-luring Vegan muffin was so good that it actually trumped many of the dairy based muffins I've had in the past. I'll tell you how and why. First, it was rich, creamy, dense, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. You could taste the Cocoa and hint of Banana and nuts throughout. As much as all the ingredients together gave the muffin its wonderful taste, you could also taste each component individually. I don't have a sweet tooth at all, and it's rare to find me ordering desert or eating muffins. I ate this damn thing like I just discovered the taste of sweet for the first time. Between this awesome Vegan muffin, the great Americano and this cozy little lamp on the table and the beautiful glowing white snow on Bellevue Drive, this indeed was a memorable experience and a one time love affair with a Vegan Muffin. (No, I hadn't smoked anything that day.)

The coconut cream cake was fluffy, light and not too sweet. The apple pie croissant was so unique- apple pie filling inside a croissant with sugary crumble on top! The location is also pretty spacious and has some scenic outdoor seating facing the water. It does get busy but the customers cycle out fairly quickly.

We liked it enough to buy a frozen tourtière to take home, and also picked up the steak and Guinness pie since apparently that's their most popular one. The lighting inside is quite dim, which creates a vibe but also makes the menu a bit hard to read if you don't have the best vision. We wanted to try the carrot cake since it's mentioned in so many reviews, but it was sold out. Will have to come back and try that next time.

They serve ice cream at Savary Island Pie Company? Yup. They do now. I don't know when they started selling ice cream at this place but my bro was in the know and...well how could I turn down an opportunity for ice cream? Of course I would make room for it! When we got to the shop I was a bit confused with the setup cuz I recalled there being tables where people could sit down to eat. A bit of investigating cleared up my confusion. The space that I remembered, with tables and chairs was still around; it was just next door. It seems the Savary Island Pie Company expanded their space, and so the new space is the part that is now operating as an ice cream parlour. The guy working there was kind enough to let us sample some flavors before purchasing. After trying Apple Pie Salted Caramel and Dulce de Leche I decided to get Dulce de Leche in a cup. This is one of my favourite flavors to get when we buy Haagen Dazs ice cream. Kind of a family favourite I guess cuz a couple of other people in the family also ended up ordering Dulce de Leche! It's old fashioned style creamy ice cream. They do also have a few vegan flavors too though. What a treat! Ummm...I really should come back though to have some of their pie sometime since they are after all, supposed to be known for their pie and not their ice cream! A coffee shop/ restaurant hybrid...interesting concept. This place is located in the space that…read moreused to be Trattoria restaurant. I do like what they've done with the place. The cushy seating with cushions on it was comfortable. Something about the way they've painted and decorated the place gave me European style cafe vibes. I almost felt like I was in a Parisian cafe. Also, I like that the tables are designed with hooks at the side where you can hang your handbags! Some of the food is quite pricey. Especially for a place whose name is known more for coffee rather than food. There are some affordable items though. Not cheap, but affordable. My mom ordered the Organic Grass Fed Mini Burgers and I had the Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Pasta. Mom said the burgers were good. They sure looked good. She was only able to eat 2/3 of them. The 3rd she packed up and took home. I enjoyed my Mushroom and Goat Cheese Pasta but honestly I didn't really taste much of the goat cheese. At some point in time I did taste a bit of goat cheese but mostly, I felt like I was tasting parmesan or some other kind of cheese like that. We ordered an Amalfi Tiramisu to share for dessert. It was supposed to be a lemon flavored version of Tiramisu. Instead of soaking it in espresso, it was supposed to be soaked in limoncello. It was a nice dessert but honestly...I didn't taste much lemon flavor. I'm no authority figure on limoncello mind you, but the menu said it was supposed to be a lemon version of the classic tiramisu and I was mostly just tasting sweetness. The lemon flavor wasn't standing out to me. Would I come back here again? Yes. Admittedly, some of the flavors I was expecting to taste (ie. goat cheese and lemon) didn't stand out to me. In spite of that though, I did still enjoy the food. The food was still tasty, I enjoyed the ambiance and the service was pretty decent.

My friends and I enjoyed the cozy vibes and liked our drinks. Food-wise, I have yet to discover my favorite dish here. The chicken salad was delicious and a good mix of veggies and protein. Their house-made organic focaccia breads didn't meet my expectations though I liked the pesto sauce and olive oil that comes with the breads. Their happy hour starts a bit later at 4pm and definitely a nice spot to enjoy a drink and chill after shopping at Park Royal. Overall, I like that they design their menu with lots of options for foods sharing. Also, this location is very close to the bus stop and super transit friendly from Horseshoe Bay Village. Great addition to Park Royal and I will visit again.
