The customer service at this location is quick and efficient, the store grounds are always clean, their beverages are good quality, and they have never shorted me or gave me less than what I paid for. This store always has items in stock and available for guest. Their menu is large and they team is always make your drink to your liking even if it is not on their menu. They have a large amount of walk room and space for customers when ordering and picking up drinks along with a complimentary seating area which is comfortable and convenient when dining in. Purchased a new phone, only to find out that they failed to transfer all my apps to the new phone. On my way in at 6:30am, I noticed no Starbucks app, called the store and they were so gracious to prepare the order without payment and take my word for it that I'd show up to retrieve and pay for my order, which I did a few minutes later. I've never been in a SR before & the interior, layout & decor was a pleasant surprise. This location was more of a Social Coffee Bar with massive students/laptops posted up across the various communal seating options & overhead music playing. This location is right across the street from CUA, & a brisk walk from the Brooklan-CUA Metro Station - Red Line. There's two unisex restrooms (without codes), charging stations & of course the numerous selections of drinks, food & here, the Starbucks Reserve whole bean coffee/menu. I really didn't see any prices differentials...I probably wouldn't since I'm a tea drinker. I've been saying for months that I wanted to come here and just hadn't made the time. Today that changed. Covid precautions are taken by the employees. Masks are required for anyone entering the building. The amount of options you have is refreshing. I go to Starbucks at least twice a week and even collect the cold tumblers! The only reason it's getting 4 starts is because of the lack of cups and tumblers. The baristas were very friendly. I got the one of my regular drinks, venti cold blonde caramel macchiato with whole milk. My drink here was the smoothest I've ever had!!! My girlfriend got a vanilla ice coffee of which she enjoyed quite a bit. She's a loyal Dunkin drinker, but said her drink was smooth and delightful. I don't know the exact difference between these blends and other locations but I'm going to take the 30 minute drive here more often!!! read more

Walked into this location and "What a surprise?!"....to say the least! It was just an ordinary day and I was in major need of some caffeine, while running some Saturday errands. I noticed the Starbucks (SB) marquee to this place from Michigan Ave and immediately made a U-turn for a stop! As soon as I walked in this place, I was totally blown away! This location is amazing and by far, one of the best Starbucks I've been too around the DMV. From the minute you step into the place you will notice the bright-warm vibe, open spaces, bar seating, eclectic nooks, lots of woods, illuminated lighting...and a cool loft "steampunk" feel to the place. Very intimate too!....Yeah, I know....weird adjective for describing a coffee shop. Hahahaa.... My eyes were so fixated on the layout of the place I almost forgot, I came here for just a cup of coffee. lol So what's so special about a Starbucks, you may ask!? Coffee is Coffee, right?? Well, when it comes to this place the answer is a BIG "NO!" As I was taking a pic of this spot, the manager came up and introduced himself. He gave me a bit more detail on this specific location, in which I learned that this Starbucks....is actually a "Starbucks Reserve" store. I clearly missed the *R/Star logo when I ran into this place feigning for caffeine. And, unlike most SB stores that actually make you want to run in and out out, with their tight spacing, lack of seating, and swarms of cranky, under-caffeinated customers....This Starbucks Reserve store is completely different. The manager mentioned that SB Reserve stores turn the ritual of grabbing a cup of coffee into an experience. Baristas prepare small-batch coffee using a variety of uncommon methods, like siphon brewing and pour-overs on the spot. They also sell coffee flights and cold-brew floats. He later explained, the SB Reserve store is meant for you to enjoy the best of exclusive coffee beans, coffee ground blends and experimental drinks as the are being source from the most remote, far-away countries and/or being introduced at the Starbucks drink labs within the Seattle Headquarters'. The concept is really cool. You actually feel like you are part of the process, while stepping into relaxing bar --- slash science lab! I ordered a Dark Roast siphon and a Double Chocolate-Chocolate Brownie...It was pure bliss! The technique to make it was really cool too. One of my favorites in the place to make my drink, is this futuristic looking siphon brewing system. The high-end service features coffee brewed in 90 seconds over super hot halogen bulbs. Gravity and the right temperature assist in yielding the purest, flavorful version of a dark roast that I have ever tasted. Gulp this cup down with one of their Double Chocolate Brownies warmed???.....Say What!?...I think you just made it into the pearly gates of Heaven...all sins forgiven. lol This store also offers beer, wine, artisan baked goods and mixed drinks with either standard cold brew coffee or a nitro-infused version. The blends I noticed being serve were cool too. One, that I must try is called the: The Monroe --nitro cold brew coffee cut with lemonade, sweetened with turbinado sugar, and garnished with slices of freeze-dried lime. Another must try on the next visit is the, Affagato Malt -- uncut cold brew, Mora vanilla ice cream, & malt. Brew & Ice cream!!....The best of both worlds indeed! As you can see from this review, I really enjoyed the overall experience here. You feel like you are part of the process to help validate the next big SB drink. I definitely will be frequenting this location more often. The vibe is premium, the customer service is great and the prices are actually not that bad to be so exclusive. This was my first Starbucks Reserve experience and I was wowed! You've got the classic (but especially well done) interior design (think leather seats, wood on the ceiling, mid century modern lighting and lots or cement flooring and metal tables). At least double the seating as a normal coffee shop and the music was soft, which I really appreciated since I was there to read (and yelp ). What impressed me was the menu. Choc full of unusual, truly hand crafted espresso beverages. Several coffee cocktails (no alcohol!) and affogato options. They also had clover coffee flights. I got my first Clover coffee (dark with citrus) and thought it was good for $6 but would try something else next time. Was disappointed the barista at the register said she had never had a clover before when the reserve locations are the only ones you can get them at and you would expect employees would be able to speak to the beverages available. I've only ever had a positive experience with this Starbucks locations, though I'd note that it's not quite as exceptional as other Starbucks reserves I've visited. Still, all your favorite drinks and more are offered here and served up just the way you like (or however you order them I should say!). This is the best Starbucks in the DC metropolitan area. Hands down. I've been here countless times because I went to school nearby. It's relatively new still and the inside is really impressive. I used to spend hours in here. My favorite drink is pictured. It's the dark chocolate mocha. I've gotten both hot and iced. Both are good but I prefer iced because it comes in this really neat cup. This is a Starbucks *Reserve* which means they have specialty drinks that your local Starbucks doesn't have. I think they only have a few of these "reserve" Starbucks throughout the US. The Space: Very spacious, I've never had an issue finding seating at this starbucks even at its busiest. They even have ample outdoor seating. My favorite part about the space is that the way this starbucks is laid out, it allows for a lot of nooks for you to escape into. Don't expect to find a lot of space to accommodate a large group, but if you are going solo and just need to do work or study for a few hours, this is the one to go to! The Service: The staff is hit or miss, but it has never ruined my experience. Sometimes the staff is really friendly and sometimes they are cold and just want you to order quickly and move out of the way. The Food/Drinks: The food here is pretty standard for all starbucks but they do have affogatos, which are unique to "starbucks reserves." However, my favorite thing to get here that needs to be at all of the starbuck's menu is the ginger cold brew. It is ginger syrup, ginger ale, and cold brew mixed together and is probably one of my favorite drinks I've had! I highly recommend it, they also have specific roasts and drinks only on the "Starbuck's Reserve" menu. They also have unique seasonal drinks outside of their standard starbucks menu. read more

This Starbucks is in my building essentially making me a regular. It's unique in that it is one of the select locations offering the Reserve menu. The cosmopolitan industrial design is super cute and the bar seating is very cool. It's nice to be able to sit at the rescue bar, get a recommendation from the barista, and sip something unique. While at the bar, you're served your drink and:or nibble in actual china rather than disposable containers which is awesome. Also, even as a regular I most often order via the mobile app on my way to work in the am. I press order as I'm putting on my shoes and without fail...by the time I'm downstairs (3 mins max) my order is ready to go at the mobile pick up area. The staff is super welcoming, always donning the coolest hats (a store quirk), and very responsive to any small issue I've ever had. read more

My favourite drink is the dark chocolate mocha - the flavour of the coffee blend mixed with the sweetness and bitterness of the chocolate is a perfect pairing. A great pick me up for those students out there! Like all other reserve drinks such as the nitro cold crew or affogato, you're charged at a premium. Expect a grande reserve mocha to be $6 including tax. Pricey, the baristas do a good job of making the drinks. If you feel like splurging at Starbucks, definitely go for the reserve drinks. The ambiance here is more social than studious, as music is played loudly on the speakers and it gets quite busy. Barnes and Noble across the street is much quieter for studying if you need a place to go. read more

A too-early fall chill was in the air as I left the CUA-Brookland Metro station under grey skies.  My work day was over and The Workout Partner was just wrapping-up an afternoon of errands and shopping. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we were able to communicate with each other from opposite ends of the nation's capital and agreed to meet for coffee. What better way to fend off the encroaching evening coolness? And so Starbucks it was. Technophobe that I sort of am, I had only downloaded the Starbucks app for the first time a couple days prior. My initial attempt the day before -- in another location -- had resulted only in baffled looks from the attendant baristas when I arrived to claim my caffeinated purchase. With The Workout Partner's encouragement, however, I mustered my resolve and tried again today.  Success! Team barista performed their jobs with pleasant professionalism and aplomb.  The cashier seemed to recognize my perplexed look as I glanced from the phone app to the register. He helpfully greeted me with a reassuring smile and advised "If you've ordered through the Starbucks app, all we need is your name, sir." "Umm, hi. I'm Steve." "Welcome, Steve. Your order is waiting for you at the pick-up counter." At said counter, another friendly barista -- I think the nametag said "Teddy" -- handed over my drink and told me to enjoy.  I winced a little inside at the thought that all this efficient technology might eliminate their jobs sooner than later, but that's a threat faced by most of us in the service industry, I suppose. Somehow, life will go on and I had coffee to drink. As usual, I had a Grande Mocha (and of course I'd like whipped cream...why on earth wouldn't I?!) and also as usual I gave myself my signature barely-perceptible eyeroll for spending more than $5 on a single serving of coffee. As usual, the coffee itself tasted a little past its prime but I think we've all come to accept that as just part of the Starbucks experience. The Workout Partner had some soy milk frappuccino thing that looked like a lot of work. Like many African-Americans, he's lactose intolerant. As a native Wisconsinite, I'm slowly learning not to take it as a personal affront. As usual, I asked if I could get him a Lactaid pill. Also as usual, I got the "Oh, don't start" look as he followed through with his soy-milk intentions. I still cringed a little inside but am getting better. He assured me it was delicious. The coffee shop itself was delightful -- immaculately clean, brightly lit and nicely appointed with wood and faux-leather furnishings. It was so comfortable that I dozed off for a few moments while T-WoP busied himself on his laptop. An elbow to the gut and sharply-whispered "You're snoring!" brought me back to reality from the arms of Morpheus.  I hope that my brief sojourn in dreamland was more a commentary on the environmental comforts than it was on my attention span. A pleasant atmosphere, delightful employees, enjoyable beverages and wonderful company. What more could I ask for?  Life is good. And today's visit to Starbucks just made it that much better. read more

The five stars are only because this is DC's only Starbucks Reserve Bar. No, not like other Starbucks' locations that feature Reserve coffees with the clover... I'm saying this location is one of two (so far) only "Starbucks Reserve Bars" where you can get something like a cold brew malt or like a cold brew float. Get me? It's different from what you think of when you think of Starbucks. My favorite drink from here is the cold brew malt itself but it's a treat so I don't get it often. There is actually a number of things not to like about this location. Here's to name a few from my past experiences: - orders get messed up because those at the register could be new or in a hurry - ordering many "Reserve bar" drinks might take a long time since it's supposed to like a crafty thing not a quick cup o joe thing - seating is plenty but availability is very limited as people stay here a while to work - you gotta be lucky to get parking in front But despite these, I focus on the positive. Baristas at the bar typically know their stuff and can talk a lot about coffee. They can make corrections to drinks if the cashier might've messed up and they're very nice about it. And most importantly- where else can I get a Starbucks Reserve Cold Brew Malt in DC?! No where. This might've just rekindled my spark with Starbucks since our relationship's gotten a bit basic. This location is definitely one of the best coffee places I have been to in the DC area. The space is quite large and there are several spaces and tables to spread out and get some work done. That being said, the layout is quite nice. Even the area where they prepare the drinks is very amenable. Another plus about this place is that the music is maintained at a decent level, not too loud. You can actually study here! I came in here today because the location was near to the place that I go for physical therapy. The metro station is also nearby. It's been a while since I've walked into a Starbucks that impressed me in any way, but this one does. From the corner location, it has the potential to feel squished. From the outside view, it looks humdrum and ho hum cookie cutter norm. However, the interior defies this expectation- and for the better. This Starbucks feels much more boutique coffee house than corporate copy shop. The space is used well with plenty of natural light drawn from the windows framing the baristas and counter in the center. There are ample comfy seats around tables, encouraging the open laptops typical of working folks in a coffee shop. For seating, it is unique to Starbucks to have chairs more like bar stools- I like these smooth wood topped stools at the counter! As you sit there, you can appreciate the 'reserve menu' and the beautiful coffee paraphernalia as decor and utility. The staff was also good. Not exceptionally happy, but also not artificial and forced. They focused on the task at hand- efficiency and politeness. This might be my favorite Starbucks interior! This was my second time at a Sbux reserve- the other being in Tokyo. Such a neat experience- they are different than the regular stores. Their menu is different- no syrups here- so you may need to alter your drink. The in-store bakery is also a nice addition. I had a croissant but will go back for lunch. It gets extremely crowded so go early. Also- FYI- the only way down from the second floor to the first are the stairs or elevator. Get. You can get merchandise that isn't sold elsewhere, there is a special Reserve drink menu, and the employees even wear a different uniform. If you want something strong, order an affogato. It's the perfect item for a hot day and comes in a fairly durable Starbucks Reserve cup that you could take home and reuse. read more

Stop by whenever I'm in the area and need an extra cup of coffee! As always this Starbucks is beautiful and clean. The decor in here is beautiful and relaxing mid-century modern. So much seating available this is the perfect place to study and drink some coffee. Comfortably accommodates at least 30 seated people. This place has free wifi which again makes this an ideal place to get some work done. Obviously great quality and strong coffee and great snacks. I got a refill on coffee which was only 55 cents! It's in a triangle shaped building which gives it a huge amount of windows and seating. This location is emphasizing the "Reserve" branded items in Starbuck's line. Not sure how the coffee tastes (I am a tea drinker) but the seating and tables are a step above a normal Starbucks. Lots of cushions and plush seating. Plentiful outlets for charging up also. Catholic U is right next door so you may be battling study groups since this place is so inviting. read more

Holy cow - love me some cold brew! Who knew Starbucks can be so... unexpected, sophisticated, spacious and sleek? I walked in without noticing the prominent R/star sign outside, just wanting to buy a bottle of water. But inside I was like - where am I?! I have not even heard before that Starbucks have Reserve stores! Reserve means they serve all the fancy drinks, together with their regular menu - nitro cold brew, drip coffee, affogato, special mochas and frappucinos and what not... It also means dark wood, leather everywhere, smart design, copper, artwork, lots of space and a special bar area. And soft jazz music in the background! And special bakery items! I just wish I had my laptop with me because I wanted to stay here forever! There is so much space inside, it feels like it can fit a few dozen bloggers and students on any given day. This is the best Starbucks in DC because it has the Reserve Bar! The employees are absolutely wonderful and very knowledgeable about everything coffee and beyond. For instance, when my bf and I went in to use his birthday free drink reward, we were able to utilize it for the Siphon Experience (which typically costs more than $20!!). The barista who guided us through this coffee adventure schooled us on the art and science (and history) behind utilizing the siphon to make coffee. We were able to try three different coffees, each one unique and exciting. I felt like I was wine tasting, except I had a ton of energy afterwards! There is an entire menu of Reserve options, including affogatos. There is also a ton of space to sit and do work, talk, or read. There is a pretty "studious vibe" because Catholic University is right next door. This is more than your regular Starbucks, people! Try it out for yourselves! read more

This Starbucks Reserve Roastery store is modeled after the Roastery & Tasting room in Seattle, WA. I'm an avid coffee drinker and was elated whenever I found this spot in Brookland (Washington D.C.). The ambiance and having coffee served from the coffee bar is an extra special experience. I've visited this location several times while visiting my son and his family. On this visit it was extremely hot so I opted for a limited edition pink ombré drink. I don't exactly recall what was in it but it was fruity and refreshing. Unfortunately for now this was my last visit. My son and his family have moved out of state. I hope to visit another Roastery whenever I travel. Great customer service and coffee. You will find unique coffee offerings that you cannot find at other Starbucks locations. It is a special store. Historically I have favored small coffee shops over Starbucks, and therefore have only consumed their coffee out of convenience. This store really changed my view of Starbucks. As a sidenote I was looking at some of the cups for sale and one slipped out of my hand and shattered on the ground. The staff was so kind and understanding. They cleaned up the shards and even though I insisted on purchasing the broken product they wouldn't have it. Wonderful place, wonderful coffee, and most of all wonderful people. read more
