Took me literally 1-2 years to finally make it in and when I tell y'all I'm obsessed. Have been back several times since then and it's forever in my local rotation. My favorites so far are the donut holes, chocolate glazed, dc crumb, tiger stripes. Really looking forward to trying most of not all of the flavors they offer. From the…read morestart, it looks like Caramelo is a the place to be since there were a lot of people were picking up their orders. I think there were about 12 people in line ahead of us. Although it was the place to be, I did notice that ordering and pick up was a bit unorganized. I think it would have been more efficient if one person was ringing up the orders, and the other two people were collecting the orders. I mentioned that because when it was our turn to order, we received two significantly different prices for the cake that we were interested in. Of course, the cake ended up being the higher of the two prices. For our order we went with the tres leches cake. It was kind of interesting because I've never seen (or made) tres leches in a cake form; I've only seen it served in a pan so the excess milk would not leak out of the cake. That said, the cake was AMAZING. It was so amazing that one of party guest who isn't a fan of cakes/desserts went back for seconds. I definitely look forward to trying more items from this bakery. Interestingly enough, I really want to try the bakery's roll. I said this because most of the folks picking up orders were picking up trash bags full of these rolls.

The Blackberry Pistachio Croissant was flaky and full of a sweet-tart house made blackberry compote and rich pistachio frangipane. For the hot tea, I got Island Mango just on the description - sweet bits of mango, pineapple, orange, safflower & hibiscus. It was served as decaf. Once I let it cool, it had a citrus taste, but not sweet. I am still glad to have tried it and did not have to wait long for the order. Within a block of leaving the business, while holding the hot cup with one hand (the sleeve only helped a little), some of the hot tea spilled on me suddenly (I now have a burned scar on my knuckle). I don't know if the cover was on right, or if my movements made the top come off. I couldn't blame anyone. I did go back and had them replace the top since the other fell on the ground outside. When they say "hot" tea, they are not lying. Moving forward, no more hot drinks for me.

Or maybe it's just more rich: I don't know. But this version has condensed cream on top. The other version has caramel on top. I also had a layered pastry with custard and powdered sugar. This was the most fun dessert there! I forget what it was called. It uses the same flaky pastry you might enjoy in apple turnovers but instead, it's layered with custard and something like cool whip. This tres leches cake is light and uses an icing which tastes similar to cool whip. It's simple and enjoyable. The Boston Cream donut is a serious bakery endeavour: just hold it to see how heavy and weighted it is! You definitely get your money's worth with this pastry. Plus: the icing is rich and chocolatey. This dessert is a labor of love.
