I know, I know, there are a MILLION Starbucks in this world. Sometimes they are located across the street from each other. Actually there is a Starbucks in the Safeway located in the same shopping center as this Starbucks. I can tell you that no two Sbux are the same. This is by far the most efficient Sbux I have ever seen with the nicest team members. They create special relationships with frequenting customers and are just as nice to those who stop by while going through town. While Sbux is a corporation which goes against the grain of the Santa Cruz vibe, the team members of this Starbucks make you feel at home. It may be a "Starbucks" on the outside but on the inside, the team mates make it as local as it gets. And when I say they are efficient, I mean they are efficient. This particular Sbux has a classic car meetup that occurs directly outside their front doors every Saturday morning. Sometimes it seems more packed than on a normal weekday morning. These folks are prepared for it. There is always enough staff and the fastest moving line I have seen at a Starbucks. Drinks are served perfectly and on time. They only have half-and-half out at the self-serve area, no other milks. When I asked for milk, the barista asked, "How much milk will you need?" and I pointed on my cup, about an inch above the coffee line, but note that since the cup was full of ice, an inch is probably only about 2-3 tablespoons of milk. She said "I'll have to charge you because it's more than 4 ounces." Yea... no, it's not. I said I don't want 4 ounces, why don't you just measure out 2 ounces for me then. She wouldn't do that. The other barista (the one who had actually helped me) came over, and after a private consultation between them, she said "We can do it for you this once, but next time you'll have to pay." So I gave them my drink: splash! the drink is up 1". It was about 3 tablespoons, or about 1.5 ounces. If I ever go back, I'll probably just put about 6 oz of half-and-half in my coffee. Of course, that will make it undrinkable, but what the hell. read more

There are five Starbucks on 41st Avenue in about a one-mile corridor. Which one do I head to when I need coffee? This one--which has by far the friendliest baristas in Capitola and makes the most consistent and quality beverages. Starbucks are less alike than you'd think, and the ones that stand out have a staff that you return for. I love all the partners here. They're friendly, greet customers when they walk in, take time to customize each beverage and make sure everyone gets exactly what they want, and go out of their way to brighten people's day. They seem to know the names of fifty percent of people in the door, and often baristas have conversations with customers that insinuates a genuine level of care. The store itself can get a little dirty, and the bathrooms sometimes need to be hosed down with disinfectant and blasted with deodorizer, but the employees are often out sweeping and picking up straw wrappers and seem to be doing their best in fighting a losing battle against people's litter. General PSA: any trash you do not place in the trash can, someone else has to. Those little white wrappers and napkin shreds and chunks of raw sugar that land on the counters and the floor don't just disappear; some human being has to pick them up. Take a few seconds and leave things in decent shape for the other people in the store. If you're willing to brave 41st, head into this coffee shop. Parking is fairly easy given the huge lot, they're open until 10:00, and they tend to have a good selection of pastries and sandwiches even in the evening. I've never had to wait an excessive amount of time for my drink and am warmly welcomed every time I come in. Seating can be hard to find, and the two armchairs are usually taken, but there's a big patio outside if the weather is good. Definitely head to this Starbucks. read more

I've been coming to this Starbucks since it opened a few years back. I hear it is the busiest SB in our county and I would agree because the baristas are constantly hustling and despite being super busy are mostly very friendly, courteous, and professional. My drinks and food have always been spot on. Jeff and Demitri have worked there quite a long time so I know them the best. They both are vey amiable, efficient, and helpful. It is always great to start one's day with workers like these guys and the rest of the staff who work there who greet me and my friends with smiles and do their best to make us delicious espresso drinks. Several car clubs from the area meet here every Saturday, from 7:30-9am, with anywhere between 20-100 local cars attending. At that time, this Starbucks can get very busy. The staff is great (never seen them rude or angry) and handles the crowd with ease but they occasionally get backed up and some breakfast food items can run out quickly. If you need a quick coffee on Saturday morning, head to a different Starbucks. If you have the time on Saturday morning, and like cars (from a 1909 Horseless Carriage to a brand new Lamborghini Aventador), this is the only Starbucks for you. I've also frequented this Starbucks many times during the weekday mornings and still found the staff (never seen them rude or angry) and service great. Line moves fairly quickly and they were rarely backed up or out of any breakfast food items. Easy to grab a quick drink and head to work. read more

Like this Starbucks because it's on the way to work. Usually busy. First time I order my drink via mobile order through the app & it says 2-5 mins. Not bad. I arrive of course busy it's mid morning. I'm standing maybe a minute notice a drink with no label I ask the barista & she says it's for Stacy. Ok so I wait & I wait & I wait. They're really busy so I figure I go ask. The guy ringing says let me chk on it by this time it's 15-20mins. He asked the girl I asked when I got there who's drink it was & now says the drink with no label is my drink. They had put another cup over the label. She tries separate the two cups, spills the drink puts her fingers all over it then wipes it off now minus about an 1/2" of drink & hands me the drink. Some of the costumers here r just horrible, I hate the homeless people that come here they don't even buy anything but feel like they own the place. Not coming back here, until they stop letting rude homeless people here. They see what people r doing and still don't stop it. If you are in a hurry, this is not the place to go. Mobile orders backlog everyone else's order...Twenty minutes is not unusual to wait here...I want to give credit to the really good employees there also. Been here a dozen times or so now since I moved to Soquel last summer. I love that they consistently make my latte hot! C'mon I've lived in Portland, Oregon and being that it's routinely cold and wet there during the rainy season, I've learned to enjoy my coffee sizzling hot. In addition, when I had to wait longer a few times for whatever reason, the barista offered to give me an extra shot. Another time gave me a free drink certificate. Talk about excellent service. Somehow I feel that the latte in this store is more aromatic than the other Starbucks. Maybe it's psychological. Whatever the reason....this is definitely one of the better Starbucks. read more

The barista who took our order was very good and represented the company's values. However, the barista named Erika, who made our drinks, was the complete opposite. When I forgot to mention that my drink should be dairy-free due to an allergy, I tried to ask her if she was making the drink already. She cut me off with "There's a long line." in a very rude manner. Additionally, when we asked for cream on top of a drink, she said, "Make sure to ask for that when you order. i don't usually like the service i receive from coffee chains, especially starbuck's... they can be kinda snobby. but i have gone to this location multiple times, since it's the closest to my house, and they are ALWAYS nice. if i ever have a complaint about my drink, they never hesitate to make me a new one or anything. i use to come in here like once every two weeks and they would remember my order as if i came in everyday. impressive! the employees are surprisingly upbeat for 7 in the morning haha. if i was to go to only chain, let alone starbuck's, this location is the winner. read more

I was in with my friend yesterday, witnessed one of the most rude staff members- name was Sherry. She blocked off the entrance from the mall at 5:10 with garbage cans- the storefront closes at 6...when people kept trying to come in she would roll her eyes and point outside, indicating to come through the other door. She kept muttering under her breath she wished people would leave and that they were closing soon. (You have 50 minutes...chill!) She was sweeping around people, not even bothering to be polite or say excuse me. I guess the bathrooms were off limits too- when a couple of customers went in- she started banging the doors with her broom stick end and told them the bathrooms were unavailable and to go in the mall ones...I get closing duties can be strenuous and time consuming- but there is no need to be rude to your customers.. She jumped behind the counter to help the sole barista and cashier- I overheard a customer ask for an iced coffee- her reply was "we are completely out- just like our brains!" Really? I love my occasional coffee indulgence from Starbucks- and my order was correct and tasted great- but I will not be returning if I see her again. Too much negativity! read more

Dimitri is the WORST Starbucks Barista I've encountered. I've not been happy since he has taken over making the drinks. About a month ago I had ordered my drink at the register per usual. The girls are so nice. They know my name and my usual drinks. So I sat down and waited.... and waited.... and waited.... People that were behind in line me were getting their drinks before me now. I finally got up to ask after waiting 10 minutes. I asked Dimitri how much longer for drink Jay"? He looked at his line for a second and said "Nooooo don't see your order. Do you have your receipt?" Of course I didn't. No one keeps their coffee receipts. I said one of the girls can vouch for me, and she did. She was very apologetic and gave me a free drink coupon and said she would make it right now. During covid-19 I've been going to this location due to the limited Starbucks open. I'm very appreciative of them being open for us. However, the customer service is horrible especially to the elderly population. I'm the two times that I've gone within this week the elderly are being turned away because they don't have the mobile app. Mind you across the way is Safeway where they are taking physical orders. The girl at the door was extremely rude and said it's mobile order only and ignored anything else this man had to say, I was blown away. Then come another gentlemen, same thing happened. I was trying to figure out this mobile app myself to order a large order for the clinic I was working at. I thought to myself if I had this all down I could have ordered drinks for them. Finally the manager was outside I addressed my concerns and said that they are telling customers about Safeway and I replied your front door person just let two customers go without letting them know and was very rude. I said be mindful that the elderly don't know how to access these apps or potentially don't have the technology capable of downloading apps, etc... point being we need to be helping our community during this crisis not making anyone feel any less. read more
