My wife and I often stop at this Starbucks on the south side of Petoskey - truth be told, we do also visit the Starbucks on the north side of town. This Starbucks is FANTASTIC! Since the food, the coffee, and the ambiance is basically the same at all Starbucks, what distinguishes this location is the staff and the service that they offer. Everyone here is great - friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. I have NEVER had anything even approaching a bad experience here. I would give everyone here a "10"! That said, one member of the staff, Rob, shines even among the great staff here. He personifies customer service and care, and has a great friendly sense of humor. Thus, I think Rob deserves acclamation beyond the norm - an "11" on a scale of "10! As noted above, my wife and I come here for the service and camaraderie as much as for the drinks and food. The staff at this location continually mess up orders through drive thru meaning you have to go inside and wait or wait another 20 minutes in the drive thru line. Due to a recent injury I was unable to walk into the store. As I sat at the drive through window for almost ten minutes the staff just ignored me. It's Starbucks. Frankly, I was surprised to see one in Petoskey but here it is and here I am. Nice sized location to get some work done. 3 high tops, a few counter seats and two pairs of armchairs. There are also 7 of the small round tables and two larger tables that are stamped for wheelchair seating. All those tables are along the wall of padded benches with chairs on the other side. Hurray for the padded benches! Some outside tables with umbrellas also. Being in a small shopping center, there's enough parking. I had my usual spinach feta wrap and Ethos. The wrap was fine. Actually, it was better than fine because at other Starbucks, they sometimes overcook it. This one was perfect. It's similar to the dozens of Starbucks I've hit over the years. I go to Roast & Toast and North Perk too. But the construction downtown made me decide to go the easy route. read more

I ordered two coffees with cream. Received coffee right away. Noticed I had no cream and there was not a cream and sugar station. Went to ask for cream. She told me it will be 20 minutes wait. it took me 30 minutes to get a large coffee and a sausage sandwich. I watch the barista put in ten other food orders in the microwave or whatever oven they have in there after mine got rung in and on top of that when I asked about my sandwich she turns around and then she put it in. I don't generally write negative reviews, however I am inspired this morning. I went through the Starbucks drive-through and asked for a Grande Latte. I also asked how much an xtra shot on the side was. I was told just under $3.00 which shocked me and caused me to ask the voice on the end of the speaker, Really? She then informed me if I wanted it as an xtra shot in my coffee vs on the side, it was only 90 cents. That seemed reasonable but I didn't want to ruin the coffee with an xtra shot if the norm was enough. Now keep in mind the Starbucks I've known in the past would strive to make a customers coffee exactly how they like it or they would re-make it. Back to my review.. So, not wanting to waste I suggested I try it as is and if I needed an xtra shot, could I come back through for an added shot.? The person whom I can only assume was the Manager responded quite firmly "One time only. We aren't supposed to do that". "Oh, ok, well hopefully this will be fine and if not, I'll get the xtra shot and then I'll know for the future" So, when I pulled up to get the coffee, the barista, whom I can only assume was not the manager, barely spoke as she thrust my coffee out the window along with a charge machine requiring I first decide how much tip I would like to give. I guess smiles are over as well. One sip and I knew I would need that xtra shot. Instead of going back through the drive through I thought it would be less problematic to go into the store. I was carrying my cup and someone, again I assume the Manager, said to me "I guess you want your xtra shot", it wasn't really a question but rather a brisk statement. After she tidied up a bit and finished another drink she pulled my shot and brought it to the register where I stood. I lifted the lid and she poured it in without a word. I put the lid back and attempted to give her the 90 cents as she turned her back and walked away. "I'll just.. leave this right here.." I said plunking down four quarters. She quickly turned around and walked back, grabbed the four quarters and mumbled something like "too little to open the register.." then tossed the coins into what looked like the tip jar. "What did she say?" I asked the customer standing next to me who watched the entire display. "I don't know" he said with shrugged shoulders. She then turned again, partially with her back still to me, and waved me away like a pesky mosquito saying, "You're good, you're good". Maybe I'm being overly sensitive this morning paying just under $10 including a reluctant tip and an xtra shot of espresso for my coffee to be served with a side of rude. Overly sensitive customer or wrong side of bed customer service? You be the judge. I'm going to enjoy my high-priced 3 shot double tip coffee. read more
