just had the most terrible experience at this Starbucks and it seems like they are trying to scam people? I order the same thing everytime: pink drink light ice no strawberries and I've never had an issue. I go to pick up my drink today and it's almost white which means it has a lot of coconut milk. no issue, I ask for some strawberry açaí on the side so they don't have to remake the whole drink. one of the workers comes to interrupt me asking another woman for the side of acai and tells me that because I ordered light ice they will automatically give me more coconut milk than açaí and if I want "extra" (the normal amount in reality) I have to add it in the app so they can charge me an extra dollar. she asked me then if I wanted extra she would have to charge me a dollar OR if i wanted her to remake the drink it would be a dollar! I declined because I left my phone and purse in the car for this quick mobile order. I called the customer service line because I wanted to know if this was a widespread rule and they said it is NOT. they also said that she cannot charge me to remake a drink at all and the extra açaí charge should not occur if the drink is make incorrectly. so idk what she was on about but genuinely why do you want my dollar and why go through the hassle of lying according to corporate? read more

I'm a daily Starbucks customer, and this location in Olney is my favorite--especially in the mornings. The service is usually great, drinks are made well, and the staff is friendly and efficient during earlier hours. However, I've had repeated issues in the evenings. On one occasion, I ordered an Americano and was handed regular brewed coffee instead. More recently, I placed a mobile order for a sandwich and cappuccino around 7 PM. I arrived well before closing time (the store closes at 8 PM on Saturday), but the doors were already locked and employees were cleaning up. When I motioned through the window that I had a pending mobile order, the staff turned off the lights and ignored me. I ended up calling customer service and got a refund. While I still recommend this Starbucks for morning visits, I'd suggest avoiding evening hours, it seems as if the staff may close early or cut corners as their shift winds down. read more

I am okay with being short handed and running behind. When a person places a mobile order 40 minutes after my mobile order and walks in and gets their order right away that upsets me. My food order was getting cold while I waited for my drink being told there is no way to know where my drink order is in the cue. Apparently food and drink are not sent at the same time and do not come up to be made at the same time. This seems like a huge flaw. The person who placed their order and picked it up successfully 5 minutes later leads me to believe the system of flawed!!!!!! Do better folks You turn off mobile orders, perhaps when you are 30 minutes behind or short staffed that would be the time to stop mobile orders. read more

I was the only person at this Starbucks and I asked the cashier if the almond milk was unsweetened. She said yes. She also said the coconut milk was unsweetened. The barista agreed and said the almond milk was unsweetened. So I got my drink with unsweetened almond milk. I asked for no extra sweetener of any kind. I was in a rush because it's 2021 and everyone in the DC suburbs is always in a rush trying to keep up with the ever pressing tedium of the day, so I didn't get to taste the drink right there as it was too hot and I couldn't wait for it to cool. I got to work, sipped the drink, and it's sweeter than a Carolina sweet tea with extra sweet. Was this a miscommunication? I don't know, but I thought we were all pretty clear. Was it a lack of product knowledge? Maybe. But that seems pretty basic and is probably asked frequently enough that it should be known. Did they just not care? What's the point of having a customer-facing job if you don't care about them? Are they just mean and mess orders up on purpose? I doubt that. So what went wrong with this simple inquiry and order? Who knows? But I took a chance on this big monstrous corporate chain and it nipped me in the butt again. I'll just stick to local as I usually do. read more

This Starbucks always exceeds my expectations, however one day in particular I happen to have an issue with another Starbucks (Bel Pre). And the Starbucks staff at this location went above and beyond to rectify the situation and have me walk away feeling happy. I would like to specifically mention Dan because his customer service is exemplary, and the reason why I enjoy coming back to the olney Starbucks so much. If Dan hasn't gotten a pay increase or raise this man is definitely deserving of one, you can tell how much he cares about his job and his willingness to go above and beyond. This is a popular hangout/loitering haven for 10-15-year-olds in the neighborhood. Often it gets so crowded that it's impossible to even get inside. There is not much seating inside, and parking is a bit crazy. The service is standard; given that the staff is a rotating one, each visit would likely vary. read more

While some of the staff people are nice and friendly at this Starbucks near Roots, many of them are not. You would think that in a time when many people need jobs, they could hire staff who are friendly and who care enough to serve customers with a smile and a correct order. Example: I ordered a Grande latte, and was served a Tall. When I mentioned the error, the barista poured my drink into a Grande cup and handed it to me without adding anything to it. As if I didn't notice! When I asked for more milk to be added, I got a dirty look. He added some milk, but made it seem like a big deal. This kind of thing has happened multiple times. Sure they're busy, but would it hurt to be nice to the customers? Good grief. Other Starbucks (Olney 108, for example) are also busy, but the staffers seem happy to be there and actually want to give the customer good service with a good attitude. Even though I shop at Roots often, I plan to avoid this Starbucks. read more
