Myself and my family have been going to Starbucks Newburyport for 21 years each and everyday - unless we are away. The staff have always been friendly and professional. Unfortunately, that all changed when I walked in today and requested a cup of water, which I sometimes do after having ordered my coffee and drunk it outside in the town square. Anyway, a new manager - Tiffany - was on site today. When I requested the water. She immediately asked me if I was a customer to which I responded that I was and have been a loyal customer for 21+ years. Shockingly, she refused to give me a cup of water and told me that it was no longer policy unless it was with a purchase. I showed her my phone App listing our family's orders everyday for as long back as she wanted to see but she just stood there with a smug grin and stated she couldn't give me a cup of water. Ours is a small intimate town and this behavior is both shocking, stupid and short sighted. Anyway, Tiffany just lost my family's business - granted she probably doesn't care but it is still about $3500 per year and has been for over 20 - it's no wonder Starbucks is struggling right now. Ironically, I own a restaurant, and would never think to refuse a person a cup of water regardless of the circumstances. Anyway, well played Tiffany - you're a credit to the company. read more

I'm not your typical coffee drinker but Juliette was a HUGE help when I had to get coffee for a crowd. I knew that the coffee would be good. But I was clueless about blends and how to please the coffee drinkers attending the event. She was terrific and very helpful with getting my large order squared away. I was appreciative that she confirmed the order and I rested easier knowing that I'd have coffee for 75 at 6:45am. The event was great, weather was cold and drizzling, so that hot Starbucks coffee was soooo appreciated by everyone. I knew that people had their caffeine and something warm to drink. Thx Juliette!! Dirty bathrooms, rude customer service and dirty lobby oh my. Came through downtown Newburyport for a coffee and to use their bathrooms and I ended up not using the bathroom as it was horrible and dirty. The girl at the register gave an attitude yet they alllllll expect us to tip. Here's a tip, clean your bathroom and be nicer to people that give a business. Wish I didn't pay for the drink but I did. My drink was waiting for an employee to finish its toppings and just threw the drink on the counter, didn't even call out my name. WHATS THE POINT OF ASKING ME MY NAME THEN. Best advice is go somewhere else. Lesson learned with this location. read more

It's a Starbucks. Similar to other locations except this one is in Beautiful Downtown Newburyport. If your walking it's convenient. If your driving, parking can be challenging to your patience. Staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. This not the biggest Starbucks I have been too so I imagine it could get VERY crowded during busy Tourist season/ warmer months. read more

Mobile orders are clearly the priority for this store! Ordered two very simple brewed coffees and waited for a while. Watched them work on mobile orders and then yell out that they are out of dark roast. Guess what I ordered??? So someone who hadn't even shown up for their order had theirs waiting and I was offered "other options" with a healthy dose of attitude by the Barista! When I asked for a refund instead I was sent back to the register where I was told I would need to wait until they finished what they were doing so they could take care of it. Wasn't even that busy; maybe 4 people in the store the entire time. I called the store to give feedback and the shift manager made excuses for the service (or lack there of) that I received. This was after having to call 3 times before someone would actually pick up the phone. read more

Why bother to review a Starbucks, you ask? My answer: the closing Sunday night team at this Starbucks has got the hang of customer service and vibe. The music was on point (a little Nick Drake here, a little AC/DC there, topped off with some Zeppelin) and the drinks came out quickly. My caramel macchiato tasted like it was made with more care than usual. The place is clearly the town middle school hang but the layout is nice and it felt cozy, regardless of the gaggles of giggling gals. Worst Starbucks ever... Forget the seating, they are flat out the worst behind the coffee bar. I've been going to Starbucks for over 20 years...and I know what a triple latte looks like. Today I ordered a Creme Brulee triple iced latte for over $6. No biggee, it'll be strong and I can justify it, right? Wrong. I had it remade twice...and even the second time asked for a quad if that's what they had to do to make it look like there was actually coffee/espresso in it. I kid you not, it continuously came out looking like a bucket of cream with caramel flavoring. They clearly are cheating the general public and trying to prob cover there food cost numbers....not working with me. I'll be ordering the same drink in Reading/Wakefield tomorrow and seeing how much different it comes out and then contacting corporate. Worst. Starbucks. EVER!! read more

I really like StarBucks a lot but this one is not like the other ones. Not a lot of seating inside at this location. The other day I went here and I had to add cream and sugar to my iced coffee. Most Starbucks add it for you. Which is awesome. read more

I used to think that all Starbucks locations were great... Lately, though, it seems that friendly staff and good baristas are few and far between. Fortunately, this is one of the good ones! Newburyport Starbucks is in a very busy location so don't be surprised if you encounter a line or can't find parking - that's the downside of any "in town" coffee house and obviously that can't be blamed on the staff. I've been going to this location for years and the staff are always friendly, courteous and helpful. My drinks are always made just right - which you might think would be a given, but I've recently purchased the same drinks at other locations that were undrinkable. I lucked out my last 2 visits and popped in while the shop was quiet. On my last visit, the barista told me the history of the "flat white" (yes there's a story and it's very interesting!) and it's now my favorite drink. This morning I was passing by while walking my dog and, desperate for a coffee, I poked my head in and asked if I could order from the doorway (no dogs allowed per board of health). One of the girls happily ran over to take my order and my payment. A few minutes later, a smiley barista returned with a perfectly crafted flat white. Newburyport has several coffee houses that are not chains and I have tried them all. I always try to support local businesses, but at the end of the day, I'd rather get my coffee at the Newburyport Starbucks: I've always received better service and a better product. The location they chose helped preserve some of the local charm. Friendly staff are quick and get you order right consistently. Ask for a pump of chocolate in your chai latte for a fun change or a shot of espresso for a "dirty chai". There aren't many other places around market square to grab a quick hot drink, except for a few diners specializing in the food instead. read more

This is a smaller location but convenient to all the action of downtown Newburyport. They do have 2 entrances/exits which cuts down on congestion inside the store and allows a more flowing atmosphere. The staff is nice, the service is quick and the coffee is good. I RARELY go into this Starbucks and the one time I go a short haired lady with glasses told us to leave because there was "limited seating". There was one other adult there who had ordered less then us. Plenty of seating yet for a group of teens (4 girls) we were unwanted. Until their policies change I will not be recommending this location to any of my peers. We had ordered lemon bread and drinks and were merely trying to sit down and eat. I will definitely not be coming back and I recommend all teenagers avoid this Starbucks! I will also be calling the manager to explain the rude and unfair treatment given to use based solely off of appearance. Hopefully next time they will be more welcoming. read more

Just stopped by as I usually do on my work break and had the BEST experience! The staff have always been so sweet and I always order ahead of time through the app. The sandwich I ordered they were unfortunately out of but they let me pick a different one and it was ready in just a couple minutes. The employee helping me also let me know that they had accidentally made my coffee wrong but they were remaking it and offered me both coffees! I'm not picky so I told him I would be happy just taking the incorrect coffee and they didn't have to bother remaking it but they did anyway all with smiles on their faces (through their masks of course!) They also gave me a $4 off card saying "Your next ones on us" and said "this is for the inconvenience". It was no inconvenience at all and I ended up leaving with both coffees, a good sandwich, and a free coffee for next time. AMAZING customer service overall!! read more

I just have to rate this location after the renovation. I initially thought the "new" renovation was to better accommodate the volume of people, flow and make more efficient use of space with comfort seating and perhaps even more of it. In other words a renovation to benefit its consumers. I was plainly mistaken. Seating is hard, uncomfortable and organized more like an icecream shop. The inversion of the line form has caused a pileup around the back door / urinal. In the end, the renovation is purely for the employee with more working / storage space. At least it's clear what Starbucks wants of its customers at this location, to get our drinks and get OUT! read more

This starbucks usually always gets it right for me, but the last two times i've been in here, the baristas have been very very loud. I come to starbs to enjoy my tea while taking a break, and it's just hard to do with yelling coming from behind the counter. My friend and i were also the only other people in there, so it's not the other customers. I won't stop coming here, but maybe i'll think twice about staying and sitting down! read more

It's Starbucks, the coffee is great, the service is fine.. and I'm not sure about all of the complaints about this one location. Of course it isn't the best space for Starbucks, but it is a corner spot in a building that has probably been there for 100 years, so what can you do? The service is sometimes a bit slow, but I am never in a rush until after I drink my latte and the caffeine kicks in and tricks my mind into thinking I am in a hurry.. to do what? Yo Starbucks is the pooh! 3 times I went in within one week and three times my drink order was correct. I like how they don't add cream to ur drink without asking so u can add the amount u want. The coffee is on par with all the other starbucks I've been to. Since the redesign of the shop, seating has been incredibly limited and the shop is often hard to navigate with people waiting in line and waiting for coffee. Also, they put the seating right next to the main door, which is a pain in the winter when cold air blasts you every time the door opens. I recommend going to Atomic up the street. read more

It's in the center of Newburyport, which is just beautiful The coffee is still good, but the renovation says get out, we don't want you staying here. The comfy chairs are gone, and the seats remind me of wood pews in a church. If mortification of the flesh is the atmosphere you are seeking, then maybe this is the place for you I stated going to the Starbucks in nearby Seabrook , which has comfy chairs, and lots of space to sit and enjoy it. But alas, the area has the atmosphere of a mega mall parking lot ( it's across the street from a Walmart and Home Depot) . Funny thing, I recognized some of the old customers from Newburyport, that I no longer see in Newburyport, so I'm not the only one who feels that he's been told to buzz off The renovators did a real dis-service to a once nice coffee shop, and I believe they did it on purpose. read more
