As far as I've come across, this is the best looking Starbucks. Fits in with the aesthetics of the downtown strip. Great, smiling servers. Tried a new drink and now I want it all the time. Not many options honestly on the island for drinks so definitely stop in there before or after you grab your bike.

Food and drinks were fine. Service was decent considering they were constantly packed... however they messed up every one of our orders! My husband asked for triple cream, triple sugar in his coffee but got no sugar. I asked for my cream on the side of my coffee but she added it already... and my daughter asked for the Pink Drink and a muffin and got neither. We didn't get a receipt and had to go back and ask for our items. Luckily she remembered that we did order them, or she saw it on the order history ??? Anyway, we didn't have to prove we ordered and paid for it so that was good. But also, the only senior Employee among teenage staff, was NOT wearing a mask. And none of them would be likely to tell her that she has to... and she's making drinks. Luckily she didn't make ours... and ok, many of us are getting vaccinated and as a society we're pushing to get things back to the pre-mask days, but we're not quite there, and I for one have been vaccinated, but I also realize that others don't know that, so I mask for their comfort, despite compromising my own. If I owned or managed a shop during this time, and my employees wanted to serve food while being unmasked, I'd post a sign or have them wear a sticker stating they have been vaccinated. *SHRUGS* Cuz this is NOT yet behind us.

The package we had when staying at the Island provided us complimentary drinks at Starbucks. I was a bit nervous about this location since one - it is the only Starbucks on the Island and two - a lot of the not so great reviews from Yelp. We went to this Starbucks early morning on a Saturday. I say early morning because this was long before the swarm of people came to visit the Island. This may have been a reason on why my experience here was not like the others? Anyways the store is easy to get to since it is right in the town area. The decor is usual Starbucks but felt open and airy - a little too open and airy as others have said there is not many spaces to sit down. But when you are on Mackinac Island do you really want to sit in a Starbucks?! Seating is pretty much bar top along the walls of the store. Store was clean and there was 2 or 3 workers. There was a little bit of a line but it gave us time to figure out what we wanted. Customer service was friendly and helpful. A bit of a wait for our drinks but nothing terrible and our orders were right and yummy. Enjoyed our coffees by walking around town before the fudgies all invaded.

Coming from Seattle, I've been in my fair share of Starbucks. This one is definitely a novelty location for Starbucks being the only chain restaurant on the island. The barista training is minimal, even standard coffee vernacular can trip them up, and you will have to explain what you are ordering including the basics like Venti or Grande on sizes. There really aren't any seats or tables inside to enjoy a coffee or do work like a normal Starbucks has. This is a stand in line for your caffeine fix and leave as soon as it is passed to you kind of place. The coffee is a limited selection for the standard roast most Starbucks carry. They also have beans available for those that want to make their own while on the island. Getting them ground can take a bit though during busy times. I personally prefer the Lucky Bean as a local alternative with better coffee in my opinion.

(It's not on the menu, but they do have a size smaller than 12 ounces -- just ask.) When the people behind the counter learned that the hot chocolate was for a child, these considerate people took the extra step to make the drink a little cooler in temperature than normal. And I didn't even have to ask! Because, you know, kids can't tolerate any type of food or drink that isn't tepid. I appreciated that thoughtfulness! I ordered a black coffee, and unfortunately, I didn't like it at all. It tasted burnt and like hot prune juice -- just not good. I'm sure the coffee tastes good in drinks with milk and sugar in them, but as a black coffee drinker, the black coffee needs to stand on its own. Lucky Bean is located off the main drag, in a cute little neighborhood. The inside of the coffee shop is tight -- there is barstool seating by the window, but mostly, this is a to-go coffee shop. It's small, and you can't really stay and drink your beverages here.

My smoothie standards are sky-high, and the smoothie that I had a Watercolor Cafe was amazing. It was so good that I made everyone at the table taste it, and we agreed: superb smoothie. The Blueberry Bliss has blueberries, banana, white chocolate and oak milk in it. I wish there were a little more nutritious (maybe throw in some flax, hemp seed and/or chia), but maybe that's why it's so delicious. Another delicious thing: the Peanut Butter Deluxe Toast, which is creamy peanut butter and sliced bananas with a drizzle of honey on wheat bread. Super tasty and filling! I got the avocado toast, and it wasn't my favorite. The avocado tasted more like packaged guacamole, and I got it with an egg, which is literally a hard-boiled egg that sits on top. Also, the toast was more like just a soft piece of bread. I mean, I guess technically, all of the components are there, but the execution needed some work. The breakfast burrito was super tasty (it came with chorizo), and one of my kids got the kids' mac and cheese, which came with a cookie. When these guys say that breakfast is served until 11 a.m., they really mean it! We visited around 10:50, wanting to order off of the lunch menu, but they didn't let us. I think the only lunchy offerings during breakfast time is the kids' menu. The seating inside is very cute: There's a craft station with paper, coloring books, and all kinds of colored pencils and things to create something at your table. Outside, you can sit on the patio and enjoy the view of the lake. Dogs are welcome on the patio and given water and a treat!

Ordered a chipotle turkey, bacon on the side, Michelangelo, snickerdoodle latte with oat milk latte, water bottle and a berry infused lemonade. The berry infused lemonade has some fake sugar in it, real sugar would make it better. The blueberries are still frozen, not fresh. Bummer. The snickerdoodle latte with oat milk was good. Flavorful. The chipotle chicken was tasty. The bread was nicely toasted. The Michelangelo was decent until my husband tried to bite into a piece of bone in the chicken. Not cool! Good thing he didn't break a tooth biting into it harder or swallow it whole in the middle of big bite. I did let the staff know about the bone in the chicken. I watched them all examine the bone in the back kitchen. The front desk woman offered to give a refund. I told her it's more important that she was made aware that it occurred than the refund. There are quite a few bees inside the patio. My husband got bitten on the back of his neck while eating lunch. Not a great lunch experience so far. Our Watercolor Cafe. 3 aggressive bees, one bee sting on the neck, bone chicken in the Michelangelo sandwich, frozen blueberries in the berry infused lemonade.

He even wished my mom a happy Mother's Day before taking our order, which was a nice touch. We started with the Street Corn Nachos as an appetizer, then ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich, both with fries on the side (an additional $4 each). This was an excellent place to bring my mom since she's vegetarian, and the restaurant had plenty of vegetarian-friendly options. The food was excellent, especially the nachos -- the queso was amazing. The restaurant also gives you a lot of customization options, like swapping chips for fries for an extra $4 or adding protein to the nachos for an additional charge. That said, while the nachos were really good, they were still $18 without any protein, which honestly felt overpriced for chips, cheese, and vegetables. We came during lunch service, and overall the food, service, and view made for a great experience. However, it is definitely on the expensive side. Most entrees seemed to range from around $20-30. Still, if you're willing to spend a little more for quality food, generous portions, and a great atmosphere, it's definitely worth visiting.
