Very disappointing all around except the view which can be enjoyed without going to the restaurant. The pomegranate margarita was terrible. I got a supposedly smoked turkey BLT on a cheap nasty bun which I did not eat. My husband said the chicken salad was decent. I would not recommend him here . do not be fooled by the pictures online they must be at least 20 years old. The umbrellas are different. It's in great repair. The fencing is terrible. Needs a lot of fixing up painting. The tables are so old. The rusty and chipping in the paint looks awful. It is just not a very pleasant experience that it is associated with the grand hotel is very disturbing. I can't believe they would allow something like this to be associated with them.... I would go almost anywhere else on the island for a meal . Try the island house restaurant behind the hotel. Went to the Afternoon Tea Time in the Grand Hotel. You have to pay $10 admission to get in if your are not staying at the hotel. The room was beautiful, however a bit crowded. Get there on time to ensure you get a nice space. Also, once it gets busy, it can take a bit for them to take your order. They were able to accommodate so adjustments to the items on my food tower to align with my Pescatarian diet. Will definitely attend tea time again next time I'm in Mackinac. read more

Went back to visit the island for the first time in over 20 years. A lot more places to eat now and it could just be post Covid but the traffic seems to be way up from what I remember. Went to tour the fort and decided why not eat up at the tea room up there to avoid the crowds downtown. Great. Freaking. Idea. The view was absolutely perfect. Weather? Perfect. Service? Perfect. We brought the dogs out to eat, and they were cool about it. That alone would have earned the Tea Room a good rating. Here's something else. Take a look at that picture. Note that I didn't photograph the food. This view - which every diner gets - is so breathtaking that it makes everything taste better. To be honest, we enjoyed drinks and had a gigantic bowl of crispy tortilla chips with some chunky guacamole and a too-thin salsa. When I say chunky, I mean 1/4" chunks of avocado; I love guacamole that doesn't make you forget there's avocado in it. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because we didn't try a full meal. We used to enjoy the Tea Room in Fort Mackinac overlooking the Straits of Mackinaw in Michigan during our annual visits to Mackinac Island. We went there each of the last 13 summers. In fact, during our 2021 visit we ate at the Tea Room three times during our week on the Island. After today's visit, we likely won't return. Why? In previous years, we always enjoyed the Sloppy Joe sandwich, which was very special. In 2021, we noticed the Sloppy Joe was no longer offered, however they had a wonderful turkey sandwich and still allowed you to select a bag of chips and gave you a side of fruit. Not any more. Today they had a $17 Turkey Spin Wrap sandwich that didn't meet our expectations. Very little turkey. About 80-90% lettuce. No cheese. No more being abke to get a bag of BBQ chips. Instead regular chips came on the plate with a small spear of fruit. And $9 for a beer or $5 for a Diet Pepsi. We laid out over $60 with tip for two sandwiches. Staff was nice and we always enjoy the view. But when when consider the entrance fee to get into the Fort $15.50 each), we no longer see the value for our money that we used to receive. Expensive food and drinks Not many options The 4 stars are for freshness of the food and the View. We were tired from hiking up the hill to the fort. You have to have bought a ticket for the fort, I think it was about 11 each. We ordered sandwiches (ham and cheese)that came with a bag of chips and a cup of fruit. Those were 11.75 each. Certainly for dining. My salad was delicious. If I'm being super critical little more salt, and it could have used some cracked pepper (and I know I could just add it myself). The Tea Room is located in the fort, so in order to visit you must first pay fort admission. Outside seating allows for one of the most beautiful views of the water. This made for one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have had since coming to the area. As for the meal offerings, they offer sandwiches, soup, and salads (a children's menu is also available). I was impressed by the sizes of the sandwiches, which are accompanied by chips and fresh fruit. Our meal was tasty, the scenery was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. The view is incredible from here, you have to enter the fort ($12 or state pass) to be able to enter the restaurant. They have simpler food and it's more suited for lunch. I had their beef pasty which was pretty good. It had a beef sauce on top and it was really good after adding some tabasco on top. Incredible view, decent food, but elevated pricing. You are essentially paying for the impeccable view- almost. The cafe is run by the Grand Hotel, so there's that. The food, while not on a par with the Grand Hotel's official dining room, is definitely decent and the menu options seem a little more creative than your average bar and grill type fare. For lunch, you could do worse than this spot on the island, considering the glut of burger/fudge/ice cream/hot dog vendors along Main Street. I mean, seriously, most of that is overpriced, run of the mill tourist fare, anyway, so why not take advantage of the great view and get a better lunch for just a few bucks more? Besides, if you've already made it up to the fort, you've paid the admission fee to get in already, so I think it makes sense to grab a quick lunch here while perusing the view and the fort. Yes, it's the ultimate in tourist pricing. I get it. The view is something you can't just get anywhere and for that, you're going to pay for it. Still, there's really nothing like it and if you're going to splurge on a trip to Mackinac Island, you might as well do it right and plan for not only a trip to the fort, but a stop at the lovely Tea Room as well for a quick bite to eat and a drink. After all, after walking all the way up to that steep old fort, you'll probably need a little refreshment (I know that I did), so why not just sit outside and take in the amazing view, too? Who doesn't want to sip chardonnay and gaze down upon the harbor? Personally, I don't mind usually mind spending $13 on a single glass of wine if the occasion begs for it. Yes, the prices are high, but I'm on vacation, so why not live a little? I'm perfectly aware that I could have purchased an entire bottle of Kendall Jackson chardonnay (or even a couple of bottles of $4 buck chuck from Aldi) and still had a bit leftover instead of forking over the amount that I did for one glass of wine at the Tea Room, but when in Rome...(you know the saying). At any rate, the service was great and our server was very attentive, the view was the amazing and the food was pretty decent. The chips and dip app (shareable) was pleasant and combined with the Caesar salad, that was enough for lunch. Yes, the menu is not terribly large, but there were plenty of options to accommodate most palettes and dietary concerns. I had no problem sussing out something to eat for lunch and I'm rather picky to begin with. Plus, our server told us they had no problem adjusting dishes to make them gluten free, which is kind of a big deal if you're trying to avoid gluten or have a sensitivity to it. While visiting the fort we stopped for lunch. This is a Grand Hotel establishment so it was pricey for food but really well worth it. My husband and I ordered the turkey Brie sandwiches on croissants with bacon and were very good. My son ordered an individual pizza and our other son ordered chips and salsa. Everyone was happy with their food and our server was very prompt and efficient, we were seated immediately. I have really no complaints! The view of course was amazing. Amazing view! This is the best location for lunch but you must pay the fort fee to get here. The seats are comfortable and the view is amazing. We ordered a soup and sandwich (it came to about $20 each person). It is basic food and poor service for the price. But experiencing the view of the island is priceless so I think it was worth it. My suggestion is to simply order the soup. It is $8 per bowl but flavorful. Enjoy the view for 30 min to an hour and then cash out. We tried to order the lunch special but the waiter had no idea what it was and he also was not trained on the drink assortment. When we asked about our drink options he simply stated two beers and told us to pick one. Very odd. We were not satisfied and had him ask another waiter for the information. I must admit that my review was influenced by the spectacular view from the veranda of the Tea Room. The food was very good. Albeit sandwiches, chips, and drinks, but it wasn't any more expensive than the restaurants in the city below or back in Mackinaw City. Read Brian R.'s review for the details of how to get there. We took a morning carriage ride and arrived right before lunch, so it was great to sit down and rest before visiting the fort. If you leave the fort on foot, take the path to the LEFT of the governor's mansion. It will lead you down to the city below without any problems. We are in our 60's and the path is smooth. read more

I went on a day where the crowd was not huge at all. Sat at a table and ordered an iced tea. 20 minutes later it still was not there! Ordered a 14 dollar ham and cheese sandwich, it also never came. The hostess spoke broken English and was more intent on seating people than taking care of those who already ordered. I NEVER saw a waiter once, yet they had time to sit with towels draped over their arms and BS in the corner of the patio. Last straw was when I asked about the location of the bathrooms and was told waiti a minute. I simply got up and walked out never having received even a drink in the 30 minutes I sat there.
