Not a good experience. Waitress never came to check on us & seemed annoyed when we asked for sugar/cream. Eventually just showed up and handed us the check without asking if we wanted anything else. Then we ended up just leaving cash because she never came back to collect payment. Weird that the tea doesn't come with cream, sugar, lemon, or honey. For a tea room, very limited selection of tea & not a great "tea room" food menu - would except me mini sandwiches/pastries/etc. Pretzel bites were very good. read more

Food was way overpriced for what you got. My turkey club sandwich was just lunch meat and mediocre bacon, which is sad that they messed up bacon. My husband got the Caesar salad and it was ok. Even the kids chicken tenders and fries weren't great. The view was good and the only reason it got a 2 star review. Service was slow and we had to ask for water refills and the view. If you're on the island you're better off eating a snack at the fort and then finding somewhere else for lunch. read more

Drinks are good but not worth the price. Service is great. Ambiance is definitely a must see/visit!

Gorgeous view, fast, quick service and light simple lunch options. If for no other reason, go see the Fort and head straight to the Tea Room for lunch with panoramic views of the island. We had the smoked whitefish dip and veggies, and the brat lunch special. Both were good and served fast, which allowed us to sit for a while, enjoy the view, then get on with our dat read more

Very disappointing all around except the view which can be enjoyed without going to the restaurant. The pomegranate margarita was terrible. I got a supposedly smoked turkey BLT on a cheap nasty bun which I did not eat. My husband said the chicken salad was decent. I would not recommend him here . do not be fooled by the pictures online they must be at least 20 years old. The umbrellas are different. It's in great repair. The fencing is terrible. Needs a lot of fixing up painting. The tables are so old. The rusty and chipping in the paint looks awful. It is just not a very pleasant experience that it is associated with the grand hotel is very disturbing. I can't believe they would allow something like this to be associated with them.... I would go almost anywhere else on the island for a meal . Try the island house restaurant behind the hotel. I think it's called iceberg not sure but anyway that was amazingly good and a beautiful venue. .. read more

Went back to visit the island for the first time in over 20 years. A lot more places to eat now and it could just be post Covid but the traffic seems to be way up from what I remember. Went to tour the fort and decided why not eat up at the tea room up there to avoid the crowds downtown. Great. Freaking. Idea. The view was absolutely perfect. Weather? Perfect. Service? Perfect. Food? Not so perfect. Although expensive for what it was, the salad was lacking and greens wilted. It's not bad, just don't expect fantastic. Would I eat here again? The views and calm will make up for what the food lacks. read more

Following a visit to Fort Mackinac, lunch here is a must. The pizza is a great option, as well as the quinoa, corn, and avocado salad. Everything was fresh and tasted great. The view=astounding. Went to the Afternoon Tea Time in the Grand Hotel. You have to pay $10 admission to get in if your are not staying at the hotel. The room was beautiful, however a bit crowded. Get there on time to ensure you get a nice space. Also, once it gets busy, it can take a bit for them to take your order. They were able to accommodate so adjustments to the items on my food tower to align with my Pescatarian diet. Will definitely attend tea time again next time I'm in Mackinac. read more

Best lunch view from the island! Somewhat reasonably priced. Had the flat bread pizza with chicken, very good. Fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. They do have kids menu for those with little ones, ask if they don't bring you one initially. If you share a meal they charge $3 fee. They also have desserts but are pretty expensive.. Like $12 for a slice of pie. Beer lovers-You can also order the special Bells beer big porch here. read more

We brought the dogs out to eat, and they were cool about it. That alone would have earned the Tea Room a good rating. Here's something else. Take a look at that picture. Note that I didn't photograph the food. This view - which every diner gets - is so breathtaking that it makes everything taste better. To be honest, we enjoyed drinks and had a gigantic bowl of crispy tortilla chips with some chunky guacamole and a too-thin salsa. When I say chunky, I mean 1/4" chunks of avocado; I love guacamole that doesn't make you forget there's avocado in it. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because we didn't try a full meal. But, that's our loss. read more

We used to enjoy the Tea Room in Fort Mackinac overlooking the Straits of Mackinaw in Michigan during our annual visits to Mackinac Island. We went there each of the last 13 summers. In fact, during our 2021 visit we ate at the Tea Room three times during our week on the Island. After today's visit, we likely won't return. Why? In previous years, we always enjoyed the Sloppy Joe sandwich, which was very special. In 2021, we noticed the Sloppy Joe was no longer offered, however they had a wonderful turkey sandwich and still allowed you to select a bag of chips and gave you a side of fruit. Not any more. Today they had a $17 Turkey Spin Wrap sandwich that didn't meet our expectations. Very little turkey. About 80-90% lettuce. No cheese. No more being abke to get a bag of BBQ chips. Instead regular chips came on the plate with a small spear of fruit. And $9 for a beer or $5 for a Diet Pepsi. We laid out over $60 with tip for two sandwiches. Staff was nice and we always enjoy the view. But when when consider the entrance fee to get into the Fort $15.50 each), we no longer see the value for our money that we used to receive. It's time to choose a new favorite! read more

Expensive food and drinks Not many options The 4 stars are for freshness of the food and the View. We were tired from hiking up the hill to the fort. You have to have bought a ticket for the fort, I think it was about 11 each. We ordered sandwiches (ham and cheese)that came with a bag of chips and a cup of fruit. Those were 11.75 each. There was a $14 glass of wine which we passed on. Even though the seats are metal the round curved ones actually were so super comfy and felt good to relax and enjoy the view. read more

Wish I could give 1/2 stars. This place is probably a 3.5. Good food. Pretty good service. Availability even on busy days at the Fort. Absolutely gorgeous view. Maybe the best on the island. Certainly for dining. My salad was delicious. If I'm being super critical little more salt, and it could have used some cracked pepper (and I know I could just add it myself). The avocado was not seasoned either. Still, a beautiful plate of food and hit the spot on a hot day. Very refreshing. The lime vinaigrette had a good acid tango. Ingredients were fresh. read more

This is located in Fort Mackinac so you'll need to pay to get to the Tea Room. I stopped here after viewing the first with family and glad we did. This has one of the best views of the island if you eat outside. Food was decent but heavily priced. 4 stars for the view alone. read more

The Tea Room is located in the fort, so in order to visit you must first pay fort admission. Outside seating allows for one of the most beautiful views of the water. This made for one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have had since coming to the area. As for the meal offerings, they offer sandwiches, soup, and salads (a children's menu is also available). I was impressed by the sizes of the sandwiches, which are accompanied by chips and fresh fruit. Our meal was tasty, the scenery was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. Very slow service, I ran out of water well before I finished eating. I was not offered dessert.

The view is incredible from here, you have to enter the fort ($12 or state pass) to be able to enter the restaurant. They have simpler food and it's more suited for lunch. I had their beef pasty which was pretty good. It had a beef sauce on top and it was really good after adding some tabasco on top. The service was a bit slow but since it's during peak season, it's understandable. It's worth going to just to be able to take in the view over the downtown Mackinac Island. read more

Incredible view, decent food, but elevated pricing. You are essentially paying for the impeccable view- almost. The cafe is run by the Grand Hotel, so there's that. The food, while not on a par with the Grand Hotel's official dining room, is definitely decent and the menu options seem a little more creative than your average bar and grill type fare. For lunch, you could do worse than this spot on the island, considering the glut of burger/fudge/ice cream/hot dog vendors along Main Street. I mean, seriously, most of that is overpriced, run of the mill tourist fare, anyway, so why not take advantage of the great view and get a better lunch for just a few bucks more? Besides, if you've already made it up to the fort, you've paid the admission fee to get in already, so I think it makes sense to grab a quick lunch here while perusing the view and the fort. Yes, it's the ultimate in tourist pricing. I get it. The view is something you can't just get anywhere and for that, you're going to pay for it. Still, there's really nothing like it and if you're going to splurge on a trip to Mackinac Island, you might as well do it right and plan for not only a trip to the fort, but a stop at the lovely Tea Room as well for a quick bite to eat and a drink. After all, after walking all the way up to that steep old fort, you'll probably need a little refreshment (I know that I did), so why not just sit outside and take in the amazing view, too? Who doesn't want to sip chardonnay and gaze down upon the harbor? Personally, I don't mind usually mind spending $13 on a single glass of wine if the occasion begs for it. Yes, the prices are high, but I'm on vacation, so why not live a little? I'm perfectly aware that I could have purchased an entire bottle of Kendall Jackson chardonnay (or even a couple of bottles of $4 buck chuck from Aldi) and still had a bit leftover instead of forking over the amount that I did for one glass of wine at the Tea Room, but when in Rome...(you know the saying). At any rate, the service was great and our server was very attentive, the view was the amazing and the food was pretty decent. The chips and dip app (shareable) was pleasant and combined with the Caesar salad, that was enough for lunch. Yes, the menu is not terribly large, but there were plenty of options to accommodate most palettes and dietary concerns. I had no problem sussing out something to eat for lunch and I'm rather picky to begin with. Plus, our server told us they had no problem adjusting dishes to make them gluten free, which is kind of a big deal if you're trying to avoid gluten or have a sensitivity to it. Keep in mind, just because the name is the Tea Room doesn't mean it's a traditional tea room. It isn't. It's just a name. Yes, they serve tea (hot and cold), but it's more of a cafe. read more

Honestly this is somewhat of a disappointment. You would think that since the Grand Hotel puts their name on the restaurant that it would be better than it was. FIve Stars for the gorgeous view. 0 Stars for everything else. The service was S-L-O-W. It took forever just to get drinks. The sandwiches are all pre-made. They give bags of chips on the side. One of the people at my table is lactose intolerant and asked for no cheese on the sandwich but it came out with cheese anyway. (Hence the pre-made fact, besides it's blatantly obvious.) Go for the view. Don't go expecting great food. read more

Let me get this out of the way. This place is expensive. $8 soup. $15 sandwich. $10 dessert. It's Mackinac island. It's vacation. Expect to pay more. The food is delicious. Fresh. Flavorful. View is wonderful. Service is....interesting. I hate to say that waiters weren't kind or something because maybe they were having a bad day, but the lady who sat us was not very cheerful and when we said thank you or smiled she did not respond. View was very nice though! Food was also very good but very pricey. They charge for the view, not the food. EDIT: so don't jump to conclusions. Although the first lady we had was none too cheery the rest of the staff was friendly and even offered to let us move from our table in the back to one with a better view! The waiters also can carry their trays on their heads to deliver it to your table without even using their hands! Fun time! Don't judge a restaurant off of one waiter. :) read more

Amazing view! This is the best location for lunch but you must pay the fort fee to get here. The seats are comfortable and the view is amazing. We ordered a soup and sandwich (it came to about $20 each person). It is basic food and poor service for the price. But experiencing the view of the island is priceless so I think it was worth it. My suggestion is to simply order the soup. It is $8 per bowl but flavorful. Enjoy the view for 30 min to an hour and then cash out. We tried to order the lunch special but the waiter had no idea what it was and he also was not trained on the drink assortment. When we asked about our drink options he simply stated two beers and told us to pick one. Very odd. We were not satisfied and had him ask another waiter for the information. Later our waters were not refilled, our dirty dishes were not cleared, and the bill was not brought until the server was prompted to do so. Extremely poor service and the management should be ashamed. We arrived when there were only three other tables sat and there were many staff members available. They were not efficient or helpful. read more

Easily the most spectacular view of Mackinac Island harbor and the adjacent island, the Tea Room, operated by the Grand Hotel is located inside historic Fort Mackinac. To eat there, you need to buy an entry ticket to the Fort and the surrounding attractions. If you happen to be up that way, it's a nice lunch on an airy patio overlooking the town. The food is pretty straightforward: Basic sandwiches and wraps and soups. Well prepared, but not a huge wow. The location is the thing: Breathtaking views while you eat lunch. One way to do this is to take a group or private tour of the island that stops or winds up at the Fort around lunch time. Visit the fort. Have some lunch. Walk back down to town on the walkway. read more

The reason to go here is for the view! It currently costs $12 to enter the fort. The ticket also allows you into the art museum. The service is slow and non-existent. The food is fine, but not what you would expect being a Grand Hotel restaurant. The prices are expensive - over $3 for a soda. I had a Caesar salad and added grilled chicken ($10 for salad, plus $3 for chicken). The chicken was okay but not the greatest, it reminded me of pre-packaged Tyson grilled chicken you get at the grocery store. My husband got the chicken dumping soup with half sandwich (ham/swiss on wheat), came with bag of chips and a fruit dish for around $11. We enjoy sitting under the umbrellas and taking in the view. read more

I must admit that my review was influenced by the spectacular view from the veranda of the Tea Room. The food was very good. Albeit sandwiches, chips, and drinks, but it wasn't any more expensive than the restaurants in the city below or back in Mackinaw City. Read Brian R.'s review for the details of how to get there. We took a morning carriage ride and arrived right before lunch, so it was great to sit down and rest before visiting the fort.
