Starbucks isn't the trendiest caffeine emporium around but if we're being honest Liberty isn't a very trendy town so, I wasn't exactly on the hunt for a hipster hometown coffee shop to grab a quick brew. Starbucks was going to have to do. The first no-no, as a former Starbucks employee, was the bad decision to start hot bar training a new barista at 8:30 am on a weekday. Just why? Another no-no, I ordered a decaf tall brewed coffee, now I know decaf is not a popular bean and therefor isn't brewed as regularly as the other specialty brews (such as caffiene heavy Blonde), and was quickly rang out for such. However, a few minutes later out of the side of my eye I caught another barisita preparing a pour over, most of the time this would have been a major plus (fresh coffee at a corportate chain yay!) but today I was in a major hurry and pressed for time. So, I interjected and she offered me a solution, a decaf Americano. This is a fine compromise however, it would have been preferred to be told while ordering that the decaf wasn't fresh/was out so that I could have came up with a second drink. For these few reasons I suspect this Starbucks has a few training issues to iron out but the quality of my coffee met my expectations of what Starbucks is consistent with.

Passing through Liberty on a road trip thought we were heading to Texas to ocean and beach. While going through drive thru we were having second thoughts on driving that far so we asked the sweet gal at the drive thru window "we are heading on a road trip do you recommend Texas or Chicago .. she hesitated a brief moment and said "Chicago" ! Little did she know we just drove eight hours south from MN. So we detoured and went to Chicago instead! It was a great choice and we still laugh about it! Coffee was an added bonus!

You should get a vanilla bean Frappuccino and a peppermint mocha and free water and kettle potato chips

Caffeine helps make paperwork more tolerable.

Parking lot is not sufficient. Staff is friendly. May have to sit with someone who you don't know as seating is limited and there are a lot of laptop campers.

I'm not from liberty, so I've only been here twice- but both were the slowest lattes I've ever gotten. Second one took 20 minutes.

The busiest place in liberty. Bad, small parking. Always a line. Good expectations of a Starbucks.

The owners and house manager described their revolving partnerships with local and international charities and we sampled a Guatemalan pour-over after an educational demonstration. The Shatto mocha latte was fabulous as was the Banana Nutella crepe with freshly whipped cream. A definite first stop for future visits to Liberty when I need a beverage. I'm eager to see them open a second location in Gladstone soon.

They were super busy with only 2 people working and the service was outstanding. A 3rd person started working not long after I got there and all 3 were super friendly and full of smiles. I was so impressed. They stand out from other coffee shops for so many reasons. I love the Christian ministries they support. They have prayer wall for prayer requests. They have a little used book donation library that you can donate to or buy from. They have tons of kids games and puzzles and even a few adult games and puzzles for groups. Another thing that stood out for me was their food offerings. CREPES! So many delicious choices of crepes it was hard to choose. I ended up going with the bacon egg and cheese. It was the most keto friendly although I'm certain they use flour. I totally forgot crepes weren't keto because I make them at home without flour. The crepes were delicious. I got a shatto chocolate milk and a peach pop tart for my daughter. I was hoping she'd want the banana Nutella crepes so I could try them lol. They have a keto coffee that is wonderful. I'm a little disappointed that their website says they offer a stevia chocolate syrup but they don't actually have that choice in the shop. They did have stevia packets though to add to my keto coffee.

Holy Grounds Coffee & Book Shoppe - First view walking in. Used book shelves

There are so many amazing coffee shops in the kansas city area, and every time I try a new one it…read morebecomes my favorite. This one was no exception, but I do believe it might remain the reigning champion. First of all it is a coffee shop in the basement of a church, and its name implies that it is religious. So the reviews that act surprised or give lower ratings for that reason are silly gooses. The ambiance is outstanding! It is a whole vibe. You are surrounded by books, some of the tables have pew seating, there is a kids area, they sell T shirts cheap ($7) and used books at an amazing deal. New books are priced as marked with regular retail pricing. I was shocked at the number if new hooks they had. The crowning jewel for me was they have natural house made (or local bought) syrups so you are not getting a run of the mill commercially based anything. I expected that to limit their menu but it didn't! I had the caramel crunch chai, hands down best chai I have ever tasted. I wanted to chug it. My friend loved her drink that had winter mint! I also splurged on a winter pomegranate spritz and cake pops to go. This is a coffee shop where you come in, slow down and enjoy the experience. I do not recommend this place if you want a quick coffee to go. The Barista was exceptional and she put time and effort into each drink. She did get backed up because she was all alone when a coworker called in and got slammed! She was clearly overwhelmed but never once rushed a conversation or made any of the customers feel like she didn't have time for them. Rare beauty in this rushed world we live in. She encouraged checking out the gorgeous sanctuary and stained glass windows upstairs in the sanctuary and shared stories about them. I never once felt like I was in a church basement- if that makes sense. It was warm, cozy and inviting. This is my new weekly spot! PS the kids area has a full tote of scrapbooking stuff, and the tables all have cards where you can write up a handwritten note and they send them of somewhere to spread joy and kindness. It does not get better than this.

The last I knew that the space had been an events / wedding hall, a B and B and vacant. Little did I know was that it had been reformed as an Anglican church and the coffee shop was being ran by the church in the basement. The vibe was just kinda weird...it's basically a cluttered Christian book store and gift shop serving coffee and sandwiches. The staff were polite but not very welcoming; I felt like I was intruding on a private function that didn't want me there. I took my Mocha Cream Breve' and went out on the patio for some views of the beautiful historic structure. When asked about their source for coffee beans, I was told "we get em from someplace in Arkansas". OK!?? I'm sure that some demographic here in the bible belt will find this basement quaint and charming, but it just gave me a desire to go spend my money at a more secular venue.
