First of all, I don't patronize Starbucks. Any time I have gone to any of them, it's at the behest of a friend. One old friend LOVES them. He patronized the one in New Paltz (he has a 2nd home in the area), and when we'd meet in Princeton periodically, he always patronized the one there (and I have to say-- I always used their bathroom without buying anything, and no one ever gave me a hard way to go about it). Another old friend likes the one in Bernardsville. Why don't I like them? I don't know. I can't actually say I feel anything about them one way or the other as a chain, or that I actually dislike them. And its got nothing at all to do with their "politics." My one old friend is very progressive, and he loves them. My other old friend is conservative to the point of being a sociopath, and he likes them. I'm a near-Communist, and I couldn't care less about them. I guess I don't like the idea of paying a lot of money for a cup of coffee, and I never have the time or inclination to figure out their roadmap of a "menu" when all I want is a large cup of black coffee. No grande lattes or caffe mistos or caffe americanos for me. When I get up in the morning, I heat hot water on the stove, pour in a heapin, helpin' spoonful of Maxwell House or Chock Full o' Nuts (coffee, that is...black gold, Texas...sorry, having a Beverly Hillbillies flashback!), pour in the water. Two cups of that...black, no sugar, no cream...and I'm as ready for the horrors of the oncoming day as I'm ever going to be. No need to get fancy or pretentious about it. Recently...today in fact...my old friend called and stopped by. We hadn't seen each other in a while. We're both working full time, and he's taking acting classes in his spare time on the assumption that there's still time to "make it." (He's talented enough, I guess, and as way of encouragement, I said enthusiastically, "Don't worry; Sydney Greenstreet didn't start making movies until he was 61! There's hope!" "Who?" "Sydney Gree...Ah, never mind...") He suggested stopping at Starbucks, so we could "catch up" for a few minutes. He was driving, so I didn't raise any objections. Realistically, my tendency (as probably should be obvious by now) would be to rate this less than 5 stars, if only for the fact that I detest the Riverwalk shopping center with its tight, dangerous parking lot. This Starbucks seems smaller than others I've been to, but that's not any kind of an issue for me. It wasn't crowded; service was prompt. Had it been crowded, and if I had had to stand in a line, maybe I'd feel differently. My friend ordered some kind of coffee and a pre-packaged container of cheese and fruit. I wasn't about to consume a lot of anything. I asked the pleasant, helpful young woman behind the cash register if they had hot chocolate. They did. I was expecting to be presented with a choice between Cioccolato Magnifico or Supreme Sucre Decadence, or something similarly and ridiculously florid. Nope. Just a large cup of tasty, creamy hot chocolate. My sweet tooth was acting up and I ordered a Brownie. The young woman helping me asked if I wanted it heated up. I hadn't even considered that, but of course I answered, "Yes!" You order, pay, and then wait at the end of the counter for your order. I didn't think the price, given what prices are these days, was especially prohibitive. Service was friendly and accommodating, and the orders came out quick. The hot chocolate hit the spot, and I found the Brownie warm, savory, and my perennial sweet tooth was amply satisfied. So, why not 5 stars? I ordered something, service was very good, and I enjoyed what I ordered. Do I intend on becoming a regular? Probably not, but if you're inclined to like Starbucks anyway, and are willing to pit yourself against the challenges of the Riverwalk parking lot, this is as good as any Starbucks I've been to, if maybe a little bit smaller. I feel bad cause the people working are really working hard; but with such a rush there shouldn't be one person making all the drinks. It just takes too long for one drink to be made. I respect the workers effort toward their job but maybe it's just a management issue. I've had this experience specifically at this location multiple times. I don't understand why they do not read the instructions. Everything I ordered from this location I asked for warm and they always give me steamed. If you have the option for the temperature why don't you do it the way the customer asked for it? I suffer from sensitivity issues and I need to wait 10-15 minutes to drink my coffee. read more

This Starbucks is horrible. Don't order the ice matcha latte. It will always be water with powder. There is this guy that makes it wrong all the time. Even when I said it wasn't right you need to add more matcha he makes it the same way. Disgusting. These things are pricey to be having this place make your drink that is not up to par. read more

This is my least favorite Starbucks location. The positives are that it is always clean, including the bathrooms. The quality of the food and drinks is consistent with what I would expect from a Starbucks. I go to a lot of different Starbucks in the area, and I am used to an efficiently organized flow from ordering to paying to receiving my order. That is missing in the store. For instance, I ordered a blueberry scone and paid the three dollars for it. That was all I ordered. I waited eight minutes, and then the barista called out that they were out of blueberry scones, and asked if I would like a vanilla scone. I said yes, and she handed me a bag. Good thing I looked inside the bag before leaving, because the vanilla scone was about the size of a bottlecap. I checked the menu, and it is called a "petite vanilla scone" and costs half as much as the full-size blueberry scone. I told the barista that these two scones were not interchangeable, and she gave me a blank look. I explained that the vanilla scone is much smaller and cost less so I was owed some money back and she still looked puzzled. Her supervisor came over, scowled, took the scone back, and refunded my three dollars. She did not apologize, smile, or say anything. I left the store empty-handed. This location does not offer ordering through the app. The parking lot is usually crowded and sometimes I've circled the lot for over five minutes waiting for a spot to open up. I don't think I'll come back to this location again. There are well-run Starbucks in neighboring towns that are less than 15 minutes away and I'll just go there. read more

It's Starbucks so you'll usually know what to expect. Service will be hit or Miss and during this visit it was a miss. 3 employees behind the counter. One putting away trash, one cracking jokes and the other one rinsing dishes. None acknowledged me standing there for a few mins, none of them bothered to say they needed a minute or had any type of courtesy. Finally one of them noticed I still hadn't been attended and ask them to go over to the register. Can't believe how ignored I was despite being very visibly pregnant. I always order online I'd say at least 50% of the time my order is not ready when I pick it up. Additionally I always order a iced matcha latte half of the time is just tastes like milk. I notice the workers have a habit of starting multiple drinks at a time instead of finishing one by one and I see they often forget about drinks they started. Also there is always 3-4 people working but not all are making drinks. If there is a large group of people waiting everyone should chip in and make the drinks until the they are caught up. I have been going into this location for the last couple of months since its the closet to my house. Its always busy and today I had to wait close to 20mins to get a cafe order. There were 6 people working and a note saying they were understaffed. How? You normally have 6 people working there. People had ordered online and were getting there orders faster than a simple cafe order. There should be 2 people working on mobile orders and 2 people working on cafe orders along with the 1 who works on the food orders. I ordered my usual drink Strawberry Frappuccino with Whipped Cream and as you can below this is not what I ordered. It does not taste anything like it's supposed to. This starbucks is usually very crowded and they have a lot of customers, but they make sure everyone gets their drink quickly and move the line at a speedy pace! The employees are so nice and thoughtful and they make sure that everyone gets what they need! Another great part is that right when you walk through the door they all say "Welcome In!" and it creates a great environment for the customers. They always keep up to date on the new starbucks items and have great service!! Would definitely recommend!! read more

Busy Starbucks but they move the line quickly. Everyone has been friendly to me. The workers are efficient. It is conveniently located off Rt 78 and Route 287 is not too far either. Parking can be tough because it is in strip mall but has never been an issue for me. read more

Good amount of space inside with some additional seating outside. Inside it's usually FREEZING (even in summer) so bring a sweater if you plan to get some work done. Baristas are friendly and efficient. They tend to get slammed between 6:30-7am and again between 3:30-5pm. Timely with mobile orders - if it's not there when you ask you probably ordered it at the wrong place (Warren or Bernardsville, which I've seen quite a few times!) but they'll make it anyway. read more

Came here on my 15 minute break from work. Wasn't busy at all. No line when I walked in and maybe a couple walked in while I was ordering. I order a sandwich and a drink. My sandwich came out as soon as I sat down to wait. My drink was a another story. I asked a barista if they were making my drink after 8 minutes of waiting. She said she would be making it. I waited 20 minutes for my drink to be made.... The drink that I was served looked rushed and has huge pieces of ice in it. I usually applaud Starbucks for their customer service, but this was nonsense. OK, for me to give Starbucks a 4 star review is a first, and it's not for their coffee. The reality is, in Central New Jersey, this seems to be the only credible breakfast option. There aren't a huge number of options, but there's some. There's my usual almond milk mocha, but also overnight grains, sprouted bagel and banana. I had the same all 3 days and the serving woman remembered our order on the second and third days. Sadly no jam or other vegan toppings for the bagel and the coffee is not that great, although better than in California, and some great service. read more

Just now I watched them Be completely unhelpful and rude to a customer that was missing part of his mobile order and had been waiting 30 minutes. He'd try to tell them that a drink was missing and he'd been waiting 30 min and they just gave him that they were busy instead of trying to figure out the problem Nasty. On a road trip and was looking for an easy on and off place to get some food and coffee, so when i aaw the Starbucks sign i was happy. This one is right off 78 in a little strip mall with limited parking in front but more in the back. They are blasting the a/c so i got a hot coffee and the sandwiches are almost gone so i used my coupon to get a discounted breakfast sandwich. I was looking forward to the chicken artichoke, oh well. Took 15 minutes to get a simple coffee, when it should have taken 5 or less. Convenient location for coffee to go but not for sitting and lingering. Right off 78, this place is usually packed, with a line for the restrooms. And the parking lot is the 6th circle of hell in disguise. Watch out for people backing out (because they won't bother looking for you). I feel like there are 2 types of people in this world: Those who drink Starbucks coffee and those who drink Dunkin Donuts coffee. I am a DD coffee drinker, but I do come here from time to time because it is very convenient. I don't know what it is about Starbucks, but I just don't like their coffee. It's Starbucks so you really can't go wrong with the coffee. However, you can go wrong with the service. If you're in a rush this isn't the place to get your cup of joe.
