It's been a while since I been to a Starbucks, but I was pleasantly surprised! BATHROOM REVIEW: There are two bathrooms, both being unisex, single-person bathrooms. The bathroom I was in was clean and spacious. There was a urinal, toilet, and sink with hand dryer near the soap dispenser. Sit or squat? Sit!

And, the fact that they sell Holcomb Hollow goodies was awesome. But just about everything else was lacking. I found the staff behind the counter to be gruff and unpleasant. Everything moved at a snails pace; I couldn't believe that a simple cold brew coffee (black) took 10 minutes. The shop is very artistic and has a lot to take in (in terms of decor, things for sale, etc.). It was overwhelming. There is a lot of seating area and separate rooms to congregate in, but even in poking my head in to look around, I received looks that felt territorial and unwelcoming. My coffee was fine, but really nothing to write home about. Not at all interested in trying this place again.

It's a social media moment with the Mundelein mural as the backdrop which I suspect was the point. There is a huge chalkboard calendar inside that shows upcoming events. I saw one employee filling it out when I was there and I asked if they had book clubs meeting there. She said only Bible study. She wanted the owner to host book clubs, but apparently he is only interested in hosting Bible studies. Seems like a missed opportunity to me, but what do I know, I only do marketing for a living. It's a nice spot especially in the warmer months when you can enjoy the outdoor seating, otherwise, I think one can skip and try somewhere else where the inside decor is more comfortable and inviting.

Sort of like a kebob in a sandwich, full of flavor and not dry at all. To drink, I got the mango cloud matcha, and it was so good! It sort of reminded me of a mango sticky rice with matcha. But I was told to come back and try the Banana latte, so I definitely will get that next time. Overall, a really pretty coffee shop and the staff was super friendly and answered all of the questions including giving recommendations. I have been on a matcha kick and love trying all of their seasonal matcha drinks. But my favorite is seeing all of their cold brew and teas on tap. They even have them in cans. The menu options are endless, and they even have freshly made waffles, empanadas and various pastries. The waffles fill the air when you order one so you know it's made fresh and you get to pick the toppings. I've also tried the beef empanada and the breakfast one, they both come with a sauce that has a slight kick but the perfect treat when you want something soft and savory. In the cooler they also have various sweet treats. The Portuguese egg tart and the ube brownie are delish! This coffee shop is also pet friendly! We love to bring our little one and our pup to hang out and they love the attention. Overall we have a great experience every time and you can tell they care about the drinks they put out. Parking can be challenging in front of the business, due to a busy street, but there is a city lot behind the business. We really enjoy coming to Toast And Roast and will make a special trip just to come here.
