Definitely not my favorite brewery in the area, but it is a fine spot to stop, have a beer, and play a game. They have bumper pool which can be fun and is unique. The staff is very knowledgeable about the selection of beers and can guide you in decision making. Good board game selection and comfortable seating, a fine place to pass some time. read more

Starboard Brewing - Breweries Near Me - Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin

I ordered a pint of the Big Bear (an American California-style stout), because the day I was in Starboard Brewing was the day that Southern California had an earthquake. Obviously, the earth was telling me to get a dark beer named after a mountain in SoCal while I was a thousand miles away in Door County. Obviously. I need to stop listening to the earth, because I forgot that dark beers are not my favorite. But if you like dark beers, this one be dark and ye might like it, me thinks. I tolerated it and finished it all because ... beer. My companions got lighter beers (one of them came with a slice of orange). We also ordered a little charcuterie job that came with Ritz crackers, white cheddar, yellow cheddar and gherkins. Nothing fancy, but something to munch on. Starboard has a crazy-looking contraption in the back that looks like a pool table and pinball machine. I found out later that it's a bumper pool table! There are also some couches and plenty of tables all around in the big space. read more

We came here while staying in Door County and had a fun time. This microbrewery has a delightful selection of beers. I went with their maple bourbon ale, and it was delicious and had a great taste and lovely aroma. They also have tacos, which were all made with some combo of pulled pork. My boyfriend had a few of them and said they were tasty. There was plenty of seating available, and they also have board games available. We played chess and then trivia during our visit! Definitely seems like a family friendly location. read more

Oh, I had such an enjoyable time here as a solo woman on a Friday evening chatting with regulars and partaking in these delicious beers. Friendly, kind bartenders serving delicious flavors. Highly recommend for any person here by yourself! You will have a warm and friendly visit. read more

Always a fun time, we try to stop in for 1 beer but then end having snacks (no real food is served just really good beer), playing games, trying a new beer! read more

What a fantastic little brewery in what appears to be in an old hallmark space. We had a smoked beer that was so unusual and unique that I took a growler home. The brewmaster happened to be bartending so he graciously answered and questions and was just delightful. 2024 has not been kind to our smaller breweries so please support Starboard Brewing. read more

Great little hidden gem . Awesome selection of beers and friendly staff . Only complaint is , I was told they don't sell growlers, only howlers.! But other people at the bar had growlers, so I'm a bit confused. read more

This place was super cool! They are by definition exactly what a micro brew should be. They are a small batch brewery which alternates their beer regularly. The Brewer was also the bartender and was able to tell us in great detail about how each beer was made. That was amazing! Plus the beers were wonderful! I would recommend a few, however, by the time someone reads this, they are most likely onto the next batch of beers. Not only do they have good beer but a wide selection of board games and card games, available. This was a lot of fun to spend an hour, enjoying some beer and playing some cards. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to kill some time and enjoy some good company. read more

Wonderful place! We stopped by here for a drink before our dinner reservation was ready. Nice variety of beer. The IPA, the brown ale, and the stout were all really good. They don't sell it anywhere else so it feels unique. Super cute place with some comfy couches. Very good service! The lady helping us behind the bar was extremely friendly and let us try some of the beer to figure out what we wanted. She even let us know that you can take their beer to go and walk around Main Street while drinking it if you want and even go to the concert in the park! Highly recommend! Will be back! read more

Stopped in here on Friday night to try this main street microbrewery. Very friendly atmosphere, with room to sit and chat while you're enjoying your beverage. Board games are available if you so desire. The owners are very knowledgeable and will answer any of your brewery questions. I found it to be a bit pricey, but it's worth the experience. read more

The owner of Ahnapee Brewing suggested we visit this brewery. There were around 20 in our group, and when we walked in, we were the only customers during most of our stay, but to be fair, it was only 2:00. The space is clean and furniture is spread out, so if it gets packed, there is plenty of room. I sampled 3 or 4 beers and enjoyed all of them. Stephen was behind the bar and took good care of us. He also took a few group pictures for us and we asked him to be in one of the pictures, too...cool dude! One thing that was unique was the Bumper Pool Table. I probably haven't seen one in twenty years. I don't even remember how to play, but Stephen took the time to remind us and some of the guys got a few games in. We enjoyed our visit and stayed for quite a while. Stephen had an iPOD set up playing music but it wasn't blaring. I actually think slightly louder music with speakers around the tasting room might have helped the atmosphere on our visit. Maybe it gets louder at night. Regardless, we really like Starboard Brewing, and I highly recommend that you pay them a visit. BTW, it's a little tricky to find. It's next door to the Hallmark store. read more

I loved this brewery!! The beer was very delicious.... as well as the tacos! I am kicking myself for not filling my growler before heading home. I really appreciate the owners too! They were so friendly... they even stopped to help me shovel out my car the following day. read more

I'm glad Starboard was part of the NEW Craft Beerport, otherwise I might never have gone here! It has a great spot downtown Sturgeon Bay, and has a homey and chilled back vibe. It's open with plenty of tables along with bumper pool and other board games to play. Going on a Friday afternoon, I was surprised that the seats at the bar were basically full but we were all from out of town. They had about a dozen of their own beers on tap. I heard that they never make a beer the same each time they brew it. There will always be a little variation to it. I first had a smokey pale ale which I really liked. Smokey beers are not very common, so I always have to take advantage of that. The other beer I had was Down to Earth, an imperial saison. I don't know the alcohol % is but it kicked my butt. It was also went down well as I like the taste of the orange peel and white pepper. The bartender, who I believe is one of the brewers, was very nice and knowledgeable as he seems to be well connected in the craft beer scene. Other patrons were talking about people they know and breweries they like and he knew everything about them. I would have no problem going here again as this is a nice touristy spot. My concern is if I came back, it would be nice to have some of the same beers that I've had before. At the same time it's always fun to taste new beers! read more

Yea not impressed with any of the beers I tried. But they change often so maybe they will get better. The place is ok just not much to it. Best one to me was the au revoir imperial stout. The coffee porter was ok. Guy was nice and locals seem to go. read more

Good beers. Even better homemade chips and French onion dip! Plenty of seating outside to enjoy the passersby. I'd try the wit beer perfect for a sunny day. read more

Great beer! Very friendly service. Limited, but high quality snacks. Get the cold smoked salmon.

I love a place where the guy who serves the beer actually brewed it himself and can tell you all about it.

I was there on Friday, 27 February At 5 PM. The female bartender was terrible. I finished my pint and she proceeded to take it and wash it and then started washing a whole bunch of glasses while talking to one of her friends at the bar without even asking me if I wanted another drink. She always seem bothered when ordering-an appetizer or a beer. Will not go back. The weird thing is it appeared that one of the owners were sitting at the bar and he was oblivious.. it must be a place better suited for locals. As a tourist from Green Bay Wisconsin I did not fit in. I had two different beers which were really really good. Is it too much to ask for good beer and good service? read more

Well.. I was hoping to be 3/3 in the DC area for good breweries. This place just lacked any sort of inspiration. On top of the bartender being the most dead faced unfriendly person I experienced in the county, the moose IPA was awful. And the raspberry wheat ale tasted like it was mixed with something else that doesn't even match this kind of brew. Shame. read more

Update: after a few years they've gotten it right. Beers change often and I've always been able to find a good one. IPA is still not their specialty. Bar staff is friendly and I believe the owner is often there. We now make it a point to stop. read more

I'm a fan of the craft breweries popping up all over....and I try and stop in as many as I can! This is very nautical themed as the name would imply...with some pretty cool and unique art on the walls. Small bar to sit at, several tables spread out and also a couple loveseats to get real comfy. Several groups were playing board games they had available while they enjoyed their beers. Big Harry Potter fan so I loved the names of a lot of their beers being a riff off the books characters. I forgot to get a pic of the menu (doh) so you should go to see the fun names for yourselves! I had the beachcomber and it was ok, not anything I'd have to have again but also my fault cause the lighter beers just don't have flavor to me anymore after switching to the dark side in my maturity lol. Cute spot worth a stop if in Sturgeon Bay. read more

My fiance loved this brewery! The employees were so friendly, and there were lots of (well-behaved) kids in there, so it had a nice family touch to it. While they don't offer much food, what they do offer looked and smelled yummy! We loved our bartender, and he even recognized us and said hi at the market the next morning! We ended up purchasing a growler to bring back home. I'm glad we got to visit this brewery and enjoy a few new beers. We will definitely be back if we are ever in the area again! read more

I can't do less than one Star, so one star is what you get. I went in with my family and we all had something different. I can buy Bud Light, which is cheaper and honestly has more flavor than the IPA. The Doozer was a watered down "amber ale". Whatever my husband had, left a bad taste in my mouth. The bartender was wrong in how she was explaining a DIPA to a customer. She also cannot pronounce the local business name, where they get their cheese from, correctly. While I may have looked like every other tourist in the place today, I'm a native. So to pronounce business names wrong and also not know how the beer you are serving is made, just wrong on so many levels. Maybe they taking the first level of the Cicerone test???? read more

Starboard is a nice little brewery tucked in the Main Street of Sturgeon Bay. We stopped by for some beverages during our stay. The beers were all right--nothing crazy delicious, but not gross. There was also some appetizer-type items to order for snacks like flatbreads and cheese plates. We ordered a cheese plate. It was okay for a $6 cheese plate, which is pretty cheap for a cheese plate! There's lots of space in there. People were playing board games they brought and hanging out at the tables or bar. Great atmosphere! Would I stop again? Yes. read more

Selection of beer was good and the staff interacted with each of the patrons. Saw a previous review that mentioned the lighting and it definitely holds true. The lights are bright, almost hospital like. There are a number of games scattered around and some of the furnishings include a couch and dining table. Have a list of beers up next and a chalkboard for patrons to recommend styles/flavors read more

My review was working towards being really great, the food and the beer were fantastic. I was loving the small plates and the atmosphere....until...a group of young children started running all over the place and playing hide and seek, counting to 29 behind my seat and screaming at each other. I really liked the food and the drink but seriously, I wouldn't come back if this is the norm for your restaurant. I have three children, I've even had to take my kids to work with me over the years but I would never let them disturb the customers. There were other customers who were just as frustrated and annoyed as I was. read more

Had such a nice selection of beers so ordered a flight. Enjoyed every beer I tried. The bartender was nice and they even gave some complimentary pretzels to have with the beer. read more

Beer was fine but not much selection. Also didn't sell much merch. We always like picking up a pint glass to remember the places we've visited but they didn't have any. Owner was friendly though. read more

Great people making great beer. A special thanks to Steve for always making us feel welcome. Starboard is a fun, hip place to get a variety of craft beers. They also have root beer and small played if you need a snack. Stop in to see what is on tap, you won't regret it! read more

Don't hesitate to pay Starboard Brewing a visit! My favorite spot in Door County for quality craft brew & tasty snacks with friendly service. Typically 8 different brews on tap, sure to satisfy any taste or preference. Since they brew one barrel at time the beers rotate often, so stop by anytime to try a new flavor creation! read more

Starboard Brewing - Always a great time @ Starboard Brewing. - Breweries Near Me - Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin

Excellent beers, excellent staff, what else could you want? It's a Nano brewery, so taps rotate fast. Reviews of specific beers are pretty useless. We tried 5 of the 7 on tap the night we went, all were very good to excellent. Stop in soon. read more

This place is the folks that work here have a great passion for what they are doing and it shows. They have rotating taps so you never know what will be there to surprise and delight you. They also offer a few snack plates if your looking for something to hold you over. If you like good beer then I would go over for a pint or three! read more

Really nice little brewery. Pick good relaxed place to drink a few good beers. And a nice area to walk around after

This was our favorite of the Door County breweries. Brightly lit, friendly bartender, and even a bumper pool table! Haven't seen one of those since my Boys & Girls Club days. My fiance really liked the Hombre and the Hopspital, and we both enjoyed the local cheese plate as a snack. There's even a chalkboard on the back wall to leave your brewing requests! read more

Not good beer. Tried a flight to see what was good... left it all at the table. Watered down flavor and bad aftertaste. Hit the candy store across the street for fantastic caramels though! read more

Stopped in and tried a few of their offerings. Ho hum atmosphere lacking warmth. The beers were all okay but not good. They do provide pretzels while drinking which is always nice. Not much in Sturgeon Bay for craft beer so worth a stop but temper your expectations. read more

The food, beers, and atmosphere where fine, but the children running around screaming yelling and playing hide and seek is kind of a big turn off, especially being that it's a brewing company/bar where adults are trying to be adults and have a good time, the children brought the noise level of the entire bar up significantly to where I was almost yelling across my table. read more

I love the new atmosphere! They always have unique brews and everyone is always so friendly. I wish they were open later but it's still a great place for one or two drinks! I hope they keep it going the same for ever. It doesn't need to get any bigger, I love the charm. read more

This is a fun little place to stop for a beverage on the way up to the peninsula. It's waaaay better than the other nautical themed brewery on the drive up 42. The atmosphere is bright and minimal, nothing special. The interesting thing about this place is that they do small batch brewing. They only brew a small quantity of beer in any given style which means you will always encounter different and interesting things on tap. It also means that if you like something it may not be there the next time you go. Small batches allow them to take risks and do some experimental stuff. Contrary to one of the other reviews the staff was very friendly and spent some time with us explaining their philosophy and how they brew their beer. A must stop if you are passing through or staying in Sturgeon Bay. read more
