I've been a loyal client of this nail salon for years, coming regularly with my daughter. We've always loved the service, especially from the wonderful staff like Linda, who is kind, professional, and skilled. However, I recently had a very disappointing experience with the owner, Kim. For the first time, she did my nails. Unfortunately, she was extremely rough during the appointment, to the point that the skin around my nails bled. One of the bio-gel nails even came off shortly after, but due to my busy schedule, I wasn't able to return right away. When I finally came back to explain the situation and kindly asked for a small discount or at least some understanding -- not because of the money, but because of the principle and out of loyalty -- I was met with an incredibly rude and dismissive attitude. Kim openly embarrassed me in front of other clients, insisting that she was unhappy I came back after two weeks, and completely dismissed my concerns. This experience was not only disappointing but also upsetting, especially given how long I've been a loyal customer. It's unfortunate because the rest of the staff is truly lovely, and I hope they are not treated the way I was today. Sadly, I will not be returning to this salon, and I'll be sharing my experience with friends, colleagues, and others in my community. Poor refund policy & servicing Used to visit Star Nails often for gel nails, will not be returning. After returning home, I realized the set of nails I had done there were too high- almost like they already needed a refill. I later went to speak to them, and their solution was to refund only my tip ($20) or to "add" polish to only one nail. We had pointed out multiple nails were too high but those were our only given options. I ended up receiving my tip back, but still paid the full service cost which was around $118. read more

The staff is friendly enough but I have come here about 20 times in total and have been disappointed at least half of those times. And the prices are higher than you'd find at other nail salons so I just can't justify taking the risk and going Anymore. Most recently I had a shellac manicure (which was pretty pricey). The shellac lasted less than a week! Within days the shellac started to peel away - like little kids nail polish from the dollar store peels. One by one each nail peeled off - in one piece! Over the course of a few days. Leaving my nails underneath super damaged. I have also had leg waxing done here and have been burned to the point of blistering. So I think I'll give star nails a skip from now on. read more

They go the extra mile to ensure a clean facility and service. They even put disposable liners inside the foot baths. There a few massage chairs in the back and comfy mini-thrones in the front. The shop is done in white tones with a glass art installation that looks like a mini-Chihuly. Alice did my nails. She made sure that they were perfect before I left. Would give 0 stars if possible. Made an appointment for 4pm. Arrived on time and was not greeted. Took a seat at the front and waited patiently for 25 minutes. When I asked the woman how much longer before I can be seen, she said "around 15 minutes". I said I have an appointment at 4, I'm not going to wait for 40+ minutes. She said "everyone here has appointments". To which I said "did they have to wait 40 minutes to be seen?" She said "no". I walked out. Leaving for vaca soon and just got a shellac manicure and regular pedicure. I selected a coral color for my shellac nails and asked the technician to paint my toes in a similar regular polish color. The lighting is so bad at the back I didn't realize how off the colors were until I was outside. My toes are hot pink! This is not the 1st time this salon has burned me like this - you think I would have learned. Now I have to go paint them myself, what a waste. Total damage was $75. When I came back in to point this out to her she just keep saying my hands were lighter - yes I know this is why I'm annoyed. I looked at the polish wall and found 2 coral colors that would have worked. She didn't bother to look in the beginning. Ugh. Ive been getting my nails done at Star for about 6 years now. I usually dont mention things like this but I feel obligated to speak up. The older lady who sits on the right side, second over from the front desk is very very rude. She has been nasty to me every time I come in to hey my nails done by Hong. She gives me very nasty, disgusted looks, never welcomed me, never smiles, blatantly interrupts me if I'm having a nice conversation with a nail tech or a customer. She's even kissed her teeth and then started to speak very loudly in her language. Its It's a huge disappointment because shes clearly very racist and miserable seeing a person of color who makes more money than her. Yesterday I went in to get my nails done and had to sit next to her table. She gave me evil glares and eye rolls, made passive aggressive comments about my asthma and continued to be disgusting towards me my entire visit. It's sad, because she has a very miserable, cruel and nasty attitude towards people of color and has made anti- black comments before. I was just checking to see their Sunday hours on the site when I noticed several reviews. Thought I would add my own to counteract some of the negative ones. I've been going to Star Nails for several years. It's clean, well organized, priced well and the staff is friendly. It is large enough to accommodate many customers and if you don't have an appointment the wait time is never long. To the lady who complained about her toenails and fingernails not matching, pick out your own colours. Not that hard a job. There's many colour chips to select from and the bottles of regular polish are at the front where it is bright. I don't know why you're looking at the colours in the back where it has more of a spa lighting. To the woman who complained about her nail shape - why not keep an eye on your hands? They are attached to you. Are you so in to playing with your phone not to notice? A couple of shellacs ago I chipped my manicure a few days after getting it (sliced it with a knife). I went back and they touched it up for me. No charge! Great service and I recommend Star Nails. read more

This is my second time going to Star Nails and I love it! I was looking for a nail salon in the area, because I just moved to the area. I read a bunch of reviews and thought to give Star Nails a try. Last time I went I got a mani and a pedi, they did a really good job. For the mani I got a shellac. It lasted well over a month and same with the pedi (no shellac). This time I went, I just go a mani with shellac came to $35.00. If you pay cash there is no tax. Mlie did my nails and she did an amazing job, great attention detail. Highly would recommend this place. I go here every 3-4 weeks to get bio gel done. The customer service is great, they definitely remember their attending clients. I advise you to NOT come here. These people will keep pushing you to get things you dont want and then when you go to pay its over 65 for a simple shellac manicure. Honestly stay away!!!! There are other places to go than here. The final product isnt even good. I asked for coffin - walked away with a dull square...and all my nails are different. I have tried most nail salons in the neighbourhood, from Queen to Kingston Rd., Coxwell to Victoria Park, and always go back to Star Nails. Why? They offer a wide selection of colours; I get shellac/gel manicures that last 3-4 weeks without chipping (note: I do dishes by hand, without wearing protective gloves); hygenic practises for pedicures; cheerful friendly service. Since I moved to the area about 2 years ago, I frequent this nail salon about once a month to get a pedicure. I think I have only ever had to wait for a chair once, on a busy sunday morning in the summer. Speaking of chairs....they have all brand new massage chairs in the past year or so. These are the best massage chairs I have come across. I think I would pay the $25 just to be able to sit in the chair for 20 mins! LOL Just remember to turn the seat massage option off if you aren't into a minor thrusting in your rear every few seconds! :P As for the pedicure itself, it's comparable to most other salons that I have been to. The process includes a nice leg and foot massage and a warm towel to finish before the polish is applied. My pedicures from Star Nails lasts at least 3-4 weeks. And usually it's because it's grown out from the cuticle, not because it's chipped in any way. They always double check the nails before I leave the salon. As well, pay in cash and you won't have to worry about the tax. read more

ZERO STARS , I'm always settling eb coming here an now I never will again. I am so upset I left crying ! PROB been here 5 times, nothing spectacular about the services or the quality of the work I remember the last time I was there I struggled for a good five minutes to get The girl doing my nails to just give me a sharper edge on my square nails still not what I wanted on the finish product they were very dull. Today I went in with the fill needed I showed the girl a picture of the color I wanted we found a color that matched I showed her a picture of the shape I wanted I'm probably said not too narrow to her 15 times I told her I wanted them just a little bit shorter than I wanted very sharp edges!! I showed the lady a picture of the nails I wanted and again I told her not to narrow. I proceed to play on my phone and finally she shows me my one finished hand asking me if I like the shape I could not believe my eyes I've never seen anything so disgusting weird and ridiculous looking my nails were so narrow that the end tip was so short it was not a square shape nail. At this point I'm panicking because she's telling me she had to do that because one of my nails was chipping on the side that's not the case I've had that happen before and the lady just puts on a new tip or some more shellac but no she decided to make all of my nails on that hand A completely ridiculous shape because of the chip. She continues to go on the other hand and I told her I want to much that you're in that she's going to have to fix the first hand then when I see what she's done done for the secondhand I'm completely fed up because it looks nothing like the picture and there's not even a coffin shaped like the picture and I had requested it is not that hard I don't understand why it's two extremes. I had then ask for another lady to come and finish my nails and do them how I had like I explained her exactly what I wanted and again show her the photo then she went to work on the hand with the thick nails and then proceeded to file one of them down to even shorter than requested and to the same shape that was too skinny on the first hand I had freaked out asked her to just cut off all my nails and walked out of there. I've never been so fucking pissed not only did I waste my time when I was on a tight schedule now I have no nails I feel naked I look ridiculous this is not acceptable for my standards as well now I have to go and pay for a full set instead of a fill that I was eligible for. Worst service ever. I will never get my nails done here ever again. First of all I booked an appointment for 2 individuals at 230. There was only one staff who didn't start our nails until 250 and she had to do one at a time. She cut me twice as well as my friend to the point where We were both bleeding. I got the dip nails and they look horrible. It looks like a 10 year old painted them on. There is random sparkles on my nails when the colour had no sparkles in it at all. As well there is dried powder stuck under all my nails that I had to get out myself. They are also uneven both the painting job and filing job and it took 3 hours. I will never go here again. I do not recommend this place to anyone. As well the staff stopped about 15 times to call individual, text or answer her phone. read more

Staff is friendly and they don't make you wait long. One thing is, I had an ombré shellac done and it looked really nice but only lasted me about two weeks or less and it was also very pricey.. Anyway, I went back and had the shellac removed and had a full set of gel nails put on and I wanted the ombré look again. It looked really nice but it was WAY too expensive..it was $85 for it. I had them on for a week with nothing wrong and the beginning of the next week two nails came off and they started to chip and they felt loose and they all came off and ruined my natural nails as well. I have been going to star nails for about a year and to be totally honest i have many problems with there services. I get them to do my fake nails and on 2 or 3 occasion i have had them fall off with in a week or so but when i went back to show them how easy they fell off they replace them but not for free.I also had my eye brows waxed and they did a really terrible job one eye brow was shorter then the other. i went back there today because they put a set of nails on for me and when i got home 2 of the nails were way shorter then the others so they fixed them but once again not for free.Also watch for them trying to sell you something you did not go there for. This place is the bomb. I have been to many, MANY nail places, and #starnails has my loyal business. I have very difficult hands to service, as my cuticles are quite dry and ragged. In three visits, I had three different technicians, and each was as fantastic at dealing with my difficult hands as the last person. The most telling thing about this place, though, is not just about how well they do a manicure, but how well they dealt with a "situation". On my fourth visit, the lady who helped me was not a seasoned pro, and by the time we were 1/3 of the way through the process, I was feeling agitated because my crummy hands weren't being magically transformed. I mustered up the nerve to say something, and another technician stepped in. Not only did she step in, but she did a beautiful job, and did not once make me feel like I was a bad person for voicing my dissatisfaction. THAT is the mark of a truly professional establishment. I returned yesterday for my fifth visit, and left as happy as always. In addition to the above, the hand massages are great, and no one shouts at you to "pick a colour" before you're even through the door. It is civilized, expedient - but not rushed - and the staff don't treat you as though THEY'RE doing YOU a favour for being there. A+ place for manicure services and more! read more

On the advice of a friend, I went to this place early in the day just before the holidays for a special treat of shellac mani and pedi. I don't do these often, as it is not in the family budget, so I was looking forward to it. And the place looked nice and shiny inside. Well, I was completely disappointed with the results. First, the pedi.The "spa pedi" I asked for didn't include the removal of dead skin cells with the razor or other scraping tool. The woman gave my feet a quick 10 second brush with a pink pumice and then on to the "massage" she prided herself on, which lasted for a whole 60 seconds at best and was nothing special. That was a huge disappointment, as this is one of the parts of a pedicure it's hard to pull off at home. I am prone to having ingrowns, so I was VERY specific that the woman should cut straight across for the pedi, leaving the corners alone! Well, she cut the nails straight across, but then she got fierce with the nail nipper. Before I even knew what she was doing, she had cut at a diagonal on the corners of one of my big toes. Worse, when I got home, I realized that she had actually visibly CUT the cuticle on the side of that same toe, further down. And I had to treat it with antibacterial ointment for several days before the pain and swelling subsided. Also, I noticed that the tools she used seem to be in her own personal toolbox, which was fine, but I have no idea if they were floating around in water or in some sort of antibacterial solution. I am praying it was the latter. [Note to self: next time look for a place that assigns you your own set of tools and stores them for you or clearly shows you how their tools are kept clean] As for the shellac mani, the woman piled on so much and so many layers of polish that it looked and felt as if I was actually wearing fake nails! And the so-called "2 weeks at least" shellac manicure lasted a whole of four days before the shellac bubbled at the edges and began coming off of the nails in large swathes. Never again. read more
