I went to Mary for a few months, Manicures and pedicures were always rushed. When Mary finishes a client early, she texts you and expects that you drop what you are doing and come in early for your appointment. This happened to me multiple times. Not at all spa like. This place may be on the smaller side with 3 manicurists, but it has been around for 2 decades for a reason. In fact, I think it's Andover's longest standing nail salon and I'm not surprised. I have been going here since 8th grade (over 10 years), always a french mani/pedi and always a phenomenal job. My french manicures last a good 10 days up to 14 (I've tried many other places while on vacation and literally non compare). Sandy's french pedicures last me 1-2mths. They have a pretty straight-forward list of services (mani, pedi, french, shellac, false nails, etc.), no fancy hot-stone pedicures, but I prefer their solid long-lasting work over any posh salon. And they're clean! In over 10 years I've never had any cleanliness issues here (especially w/pedicures) nor have I heard of anyone who has. I've lived in Brighton (about 40min away) the past 5 yrs and that hasn't stopped me from going to Star Nails whenever I want my nails done--I refuse to go elsewhere! read more

So there is no rushing through your service to get the next person in. The salon was also really clean. I went for a pedicure. I find in many of the places they do not let your feet soak long enough. This place had the kindest and most friendly employees. Their attention to detail was amazing. I had a Pedicure and Shellac French Manicure (for a wedding) and both came out great. The pedicurist Sandy took her time, which I appreciated especially when it came to the massage. I mentioned at the beginning of the pedicure that the massage was my favorite part and she did it extra long! Its not a swanky upscale looking salon if that is what you are looking for, but it has the nice massage chairs for the pedicures and they certainly make up for the lack ambiance with their service! I have been doing research on nails salons in the area and I decided to try Star Nails based on the 5 star rating seen here on Yelp. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with nails. First off I made three appointments days ahead of time for 11am on Sunday morning. When we arrived there were several bags of trash outside, that was the first clue. There were only 2 people working there so one of us had to wait while the other 2 were getting nails done. They had shellac colors only in bottles not on painted nails so you could not see how they looked. When we were getting the manicure not only did we not soak we also didn't wash our hands. The polish job was un even and sloppy. They do not take credit cards either. It was an all around dump and the service was diplorable. If I could give Star Nails negative stars I would. read more

Although the staff was very warm and friendly, I am ultimately disappointed with my experience. I spent $30 on my gel manicure, and after only 4 days it chipped and the bottoms are already peeling back and lifting. They look like they should look after 2 weeks, not a few days. I almost feel that because I look young (I'm in my twenties but often get mistaken for a teenager), I was taken advantage of. My manicure was cut extremely short because another client, an older and more frequent visitor, had arrived. I went with a best friend of mine in the hopes of spending time getting manicures together. Instead, I was rushed aside and waited 20+ minutes while my friend received what I assume to be the full length manicure that I should have received, along with a massage that I didn't receive either. Although we arrived 5 minutes late, there was no reason that my manicure should have been so rushed. Some spots were uneven and I still had hang nails and very uneven cuticles. There's no excuse, and spending $30 on a manicure that lasts 4 days is not acceptable. read more

Now as far as their services go its GREAT!! They handle manicures and pedicures and have new pedicure chairs that are soooo relaxing. They have lots of colors to pick from which is great ! I get the shellac done and I love how they have several color wheels to pick from. I am also so undecided so it works out great to see them first.
