I want to give a boost to this useful and practical little motel. My life partner Jay and I stayed there for 4 nights in July 2012. We were in Macomb under sad circumstances; we were attending an unexpected family funeral. We came all the way from Boston and needed a short-term home base that we could afford on short notice. Star Motel was there for us, and we're grateful. We stayed for only $42 a night, and I got that rate right from the motel's website -- I didn't have to comb through discounter sites to get it.
Star Motel is bare-bones but clean and quiet, and the management is very friendly and helpful. Everything in our king bed room work as it was supposed to. The AC worked perfectly (good thing, too, because it was 106F while we were there), there was plenty of hot water, the wifi and all of the outlets worked (a life-saver for us since we needed to work our jobs remotely at times), and the big bed was a comfort. The housecleaning staff (which on at least one morning was the manager) kept our room very tidy.
They supplied packets of shampoo, body wash and bar soap. You should plan to bring other toiletries or buy them in town. We were able to park our rental car right outside our door. A perk was having a microwave and fridge in the room, meaning we didn't have to spend money at restaurants for every meal (there is an Aldi's grocery store directly across the street).
Now that my partner's mom is alone we will be going to Macomb more often, and Star Motel is exactly where we'll stay. read more
