    Clean and modern

Clean and quiet! Just want you want from a roadside hotel in rural Illinois. On top of that, it is right next to the Western Illinois Correctional Faculty. So, if your friend or family is someone who "didn't do it...I swear ", you won't have far to travel. Also close to DOT food distribution HQ, if you're here for business. Cathy provides the friendly Irish hospitality at the front desk. A good lobby breakfast is complimentary. Bring your speedo or bikini. Pool is clean- albeit a lil small. Must have been built for Leprechauns This is the finest(and only) accommodation in Mount Sterling.

I stay here every time I'm in town. There's an awesome coffee shop nearby, also a jewelry store,…read morethe local newspaper, and a stroll around the square. Everyone is so friendly! Knowing that Abe spent time in the building is just a bonus.

We were there for 2 nights. Check in? No one there. There were 2 pieces of paper on the desk…read morewith your name, room number and the code to your door, right there for anyone to see. We had no idea where our room was. My husband looked in the restaurant to the left and saw a girl and asked if she could tell us where our room and the elevator was. She said there is no elevator and said go out back behind the hotel and take the stairs. She was obviously busy with the restaurant. Our room was upstairs and you have to go out the back of the building and climb stairs. It was pouring rain and dark out. We had a cooler, luggage and hanging dress clothes to lug up the stairs. We got in our room and my husband said $191.00 a night for this!!! We couldn't get the A/C or heat to work in the living room. There is a tiny remote and we couldn't figure it out. This must have been an old attic that was turned into rooms using blonde pine. The floors are so tilted and uneven it was hard to walk, it gave you a drunk feeling. There is a sign on your door that you can turn over that said something like clean our room so I turned it to that but no one ever came to provide fresh towels or clean the rooms. We were given 2 rough towels, 2 washcloths and a hand towel. The "closet was just a short bar to hang your clothes on. Luckily we brought some of our clothes on hangers because there was only 1 tiny hanger and it was for pants. The only other places to put clothes were in the one drawer of the nightstand. There is a picture of the inside of the drawers. There is a metal stand to put your luggage on but it was so rickety that it kept leaning so we couldn't use it. When we went to leave we couldn't get the door to lock. We have a Schlage code lock at home but it isn't like this one. I called both numbers on the sheet of paper and both went to voice mail. I texted one number, Brandy, and told her we were having problems getting the door to lock. She said instructions were on the sheet of paper. I still couldn't get it to lock. We had to leave for our function, when we got back the door was still unlocked. I texted her and told her that but never heard back. How can you run a hotel with no one there??? Two other rooms were rented by friends and family. When I asked what they thought of the hotel they just laughed. When we checked out of our room there was no one at the desk.

The Green Gables has put in some good improvements since I stayed here a couple of years ago. The…read morething you should realize about this motel is that it offers very high value. So remember that it's not the Ritz Carlton you're checking into. With that in mind: The room is good - clean, double bed is comfortable, TV works, two lamps that work and a little refrigerator and also a microwave. So you have what you need for a few nights. Also, outside each room there are little chairs so you can sit outside which in the summer, is a very pleasant thing to do. And it's fun to talk with the other guests; they are always interesting people. The location cannot be beat. It is very near Scripps Park which has a playground, a picnic area and a fabulous aquatic center with a giant slide. It's also across the road from the Fitness Center where you can buy a $10 day pass - lap pool, gyms, workout room - great facility. It's also close to the best Mexican restaurant around - Los Charros. Alway busy because it's so good. The parking lot is well lit, the grass is mowed and manicured. I think it is a very fine place for the money. It's also quite safe. I don't think I needed to lock my door - of course, I did, but it's a quiet place despite the fact that it's right on Rt 24. Lastly, the owner of this motel is a very fine woman. I had a problem - I lost my key - and she couldn't have been more understanding. She is kind. I stayed a few nights and had the chance to visit with her and she's interesting. I recommend this motel as the best value in Rushville.

I will NEVER go back to the Green Gable or Crossroads after having gone to the Green Gable for 10…read moreyears with the origonal owners. Here is why: * They new owners (2020) lied to me, confirming I had a room at the Green Gable and then taking it away without notifying me less than an hour before I arrived. A classic bait and switch to gain customers at the Crossroads motel that has such a horrible repetition (Outdates, bedbugs and roaches). * The woman/owner said they were giving me a deal at Crossroads for 79.00 because they messed up, but the husband later said the room was 60.00, not knowing the situation between his wife and me with her offering it for 79.00 at a "bargain price." * They told me the Green Gable was filled (Though they didn't bother to notify me), when it clearly was not. We checked several times throughout the night and the next morning. The same three, and later one more vehicles were there. It was obvious they had vacant rooms. There was no vacancy sign on the office door at any point. All to get you to go to the Crossroads. * They have, and most likely will continue to raise the rates. * If history is proof, they will continue to let the Green Gable go down in quality and cleanliness, and possibly become bug infested like the Crossroads. * They can NOT be trusted. I can't feel safe with people or willing to do business with people that are willing to trick, lie, be deceitful and have no morals. I am in shock of what they did. I use to love going to the Green Gable when the wonderful older couple use to own it.
