The breakfast option here sets it apart from other options with a spread of hot items as well as pastries and cereals. They also have both full size and mini waffle irons and a complete topping bar. I would have stayed elsewhere, but there was nowhere else in town to stay, and we were too tired to drive to the next town. In retrospect, we should have napped in the car in a safe location for 30 minutes, then drove to rushville. I'm sorry, reader. I wish i can give you better news, but for your health, safety, well being, and happiness, please don't stay here. You would be safer wearing a swatzika shirt at a hotel in Oakland, CA than you are being an average joe at this hotel.

I happened to get a couple of rooms now, in 2021, while visiting WIU for graduation, and was impressed at the change. I had actually driven up to the hotel, willing to accept it as I remembered it from 4 years ago; it turned out be much, much nicer. No more smoky smell - in fact the entire hotel smells clean and fresh. The carpets have been replaced,and new paint throughout. New furniture, furnishings, appliances and ACs in the rooms. The entire staff is hard-working, friendly and approachable. The manager/host is clearly engaged in the performance of the hotel, and it's easy to see, since he is always present in person, working alongside the staff. (side note - this hotel turned out to be even nicer than the Quality Inn and Suites in Kansas City, MO. That place was the exact opposite, but that's the subject of another review).

We came to this location for the Pageant and nearby historic attractions in Nauvoo, Illinois. We were very impressed with the housekeeping and the cleanliness of our room. The beds were very comfortable (and firm) and we loved the fluffy pillows and towels provided by the hotel. We requested additional pillows that the staff immediately provided. The breakfast was very good with a great selection of food that met the individual needs of our entire family- we had three children and a picky eater with us that were satisfied. The breakfast staff made sure all of the breakfast items were well prepared and available. Also, the drive to/from Nauvoo from this location is easy and nice. It's only 23-minutes and very scenic along the Mississippi River on the Illinois side. We plan to come back to visit Nauvoo and will stay at the Fairfield Inn.

There is also an iodizer that was running that sounded like a vacuum cleaner. Bathrooms are older. We didn't have an actual bathroom vanity/sink and used the kitchenette sink. The walls were pretty thin, and we could hear our neighbors often and chatter from the alley and parking lot. The beds were comfy and the room was clean! The restaurant was honestly strange. It's a steakhouse but has a lot of pub seating and tables cannot be moved. Prices were reasonable but food is served in diner style baskets with paper (not a steakhouse vibe). Severs were kind but unorganized. My salad had a lot of wilted lettuce, but baked potato and steak kabob was good. We wouldn't go back.

Our room was upstairs and you have to go out the back of the building and climb stairs. It was pouring rain and dark out. We had a cooler, luggage and hanging dress clothes to lug up the stairs. We got in our room and my husband said $191.00 a night for this!!! We couldn't get the A/C or heat to work in the living room. There is a tiny remote and we couldn't figure it out. This must have been an old attic that was turned into rooms using blonde pine. The floors are so tilted and uneven it was hard to walk, it gave you a drunk feeling. There is a sign on your door that you can turn over that said something like clean our room so I turned it to that but no one ever came to provide fresh towels or clean the rooms. We were given 2 rough towels, 2 washcloths and a hand towel. The "closet was just a short bar to hang your clothes on. Luckily we brought some of our clothes on hangers because there was only 1 tiny hanger and it was for pants. The only other places to put clothes were in the one drawer of the nightstand. There is a picture of the inside of the drawers. There is a metal stand to put your luggage on but it was so rickety that it kept leaning so we couldn't use it. When we went to leave we couldn't get the door to lock. We have a Schlage code lock at home but it isn't like this one. I called both numbers on the sheet of paper and both went to voice mail. I texted one number, Brandy, and told her we were having problems getting the door to lock. She said instructions were on the sheet of paper. I still couldn't get it to lock. We had to leave for our function, when we got back the door was still unlocked. I texted her and told her that but never heard back. How can you run a hotel with no one there??? Two other rooms were rented by friends and family. When I asked what they thought of the hotel they just laughed. When we checked out of our room there was no one at the desk.
