My friend Jun took me to this lunch buffet which costs $21.95 you get a chai drink and naan (you have to eat in person) but I decided to stay fit and ordered the chicken tikka masala with rice and mango lassi. Their chicken tikka masala is simply heavenly. The curry tastes so good with the rice and the mango lassi is delicious. Service is by the waiter on Tuesday 03/10/2026 is outstanding. They also accept UberEats, DoorDash, and GrubHub for orders. Highly recommend with my utmost respectful regards.

Our server Su was super welcoming and kind to us! We were very happy with our delicious food! Would definitely recommend, will be coming back! :))

Always driven by but finally ate here today. This review was for the buffet. Selection was limited and food was alright. The saag paneer actually tasted sour and old. The tandoori tasted dry from sitting under the heater. I appreciated that they brought us naan freshly made.

We've been coming here for hella years bc it's within walking distance of our condo and bc it's consistently really delicious and very vegetarian friendly. The restrooms are always very clean and the staff is always very welcoming and friendly. The buffet prices are very fair. We recommend this restaurant a lot.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Came on a weekend night for dinner around 6 pm. When we got there, it was pretty empty so we were able to choose where to sit. I ordered a chicken tikka masala with butter naan. Our server was amazing, took our order quickly and came to refill water a few times. Food came out in about 10 minutes. To be honest, portion size was a bit small for $16, especially since you would have to order naan or rice to go with it. With that said, I did enjoy the taste, though chicken was kinda dry. The inside is super cute with lots of decorations.

Star India is on the Aadvantage dining list, and we're trying to build up miles, so we stopped in after visiting the Legion of Honor. We were the only customers there the whole time, so attention and service were quite good. We ordered veggie pakora, and I had vegetable biryani medium spicy, while The Wife ordered vegetable Navratan korma, mild. I also ordered a glass of gewürztraminer. All the wines were $5-7 per glass, and healthy pours! Most of the entrees were $13.95. The korma was more tomato forward than usual, but still tasty. Kind of like a milder tikka masala sauce. And water chestnuts, yay! The biryani had a good mix of veggies and cashews. Potato, cauliflower, broccoli, corn, peas, etc. We also got our first poori in many years, which was quite nice. The room was very colorful, and oddly, the men's room decor (wall and floor design very modernist) was completely different from everything else. Must be leftover from whatever this space was before? The chai tea was pretty good, but The Wife's kulfi just tasted like frozen milk cubes, no flavor. The gulab jamun in rosewater was good.

Star of India is a classic San Francisco restaurant. If I had to guess iv been going to the star of India for 20 years or so. Always a solid meal full of flavor for a fair price with courteous service. They told me they've been there since 1992, that's a lifetime for a restaurant and it makes sense.

Garlic naan

The food was just okay overall. Most of the dishes were really salty, and there wasn't a lot of variety for an all-you-can-eat ($23.90/person). The garlic naan was the highlight--fresh, hot, and really tasty. The chai, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing--it tasted too milky and lacked that strong, spiced flavor I was hoping for. For the price, I expected more options and better quality. That said, the service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated.

Me and my girlfriend love coming here very close by and the service is very fast and friendly I like this restaurant because it feels like a hole in the wall super lowkey and if you're around the neighborhood neighbors know this spot smacks! Me and my girlfriend order the basamati rice with medium chicken tikka masala

The worst indian food I've had this year 2024
Jack R.

How in the world is this place rated so high? It's absolutely horrible. The Dahl soup was watery and bland. The chai tea tasted like they washed out the drink dispenser with bleach then added some chai leaves. The server was missing in action. The chicken tandoori and Tikka masala was skimpy and they didn't refill it. I love kheer as a dessert and this is one of the worst kheers I've ever had. The palak paneer and Nan was the only thing worth eating. The vegetables were watery and bland. OMG skip this place for lunch buffet. Horrible...horrible...horrible..

They call it Star India, but it should be called 5-Star India!! Great selection of food and RARE to find an Indian buffet that's open for both dinner and lunch. AYCE!! Food was hot and fresh and delicious. I also love meat dishes so this place 100% delivered. Tandoori chicken, lamb curry, and butter chicken were super tasty. Great value and not super crowded when we went which was on a Sunday at 6pm. Nice music and environment as well. Best bang for the buck in SF in my opinion. =)

We came in around 8pm on Friday and to our surprise it was completely empty and stayed empty during our meal until we left. We ordered veggies, lamb naan, butter chicken and meat samosas. -veggies where lighted breaded and tasted great with the sauces they had. They were not oily and were filling. -meat samosas were on the oily side and didn't really have any taste. Just a ball of unseasoned meat. -butter chicken didn't really taste like butter chicken. It had a very strong coconut taste and the portion size for the price was a bit disappointing. -the naan was great! Aside from the meat not adding much to the flavor the naan itself was very tasty! Warm and crunchy on the edges. Service was excellent, it could had been because the restaurant was completely empty but we never had to ask for more water and the food came out very fast so we absolutely loved that. The restaurant was also very cute. It has some awesome paintings on the walls.

Savor is an all-vegetarian, but mostly vegan, Yemeni restaurant. Everything is either vegan or is labeled as a 'vegan option' if there is dairy. , Here's what I tried: -Split pea soup: comes with every order (at least during lunch). I love a good split pea soup, and they're hard to find vegan out in the wild, so I really enjoyed this. -Artichoke Shawarma: Artichoke is soft but meaty. Hummus tastes fresh and homemade. Lots of flavor and zestiness throughout! -Mujadara: Forbidden rice and lentils topped with tofu, veggies, and tahini sauce. They use Hodo tofu, which is a great quality tofu. The rice is so soft and has a great texture to bite into. It's a mix of hot ingredients and cold ingredients, making this an adventurous plate for your taste buds! -Wild mushroom knafeh: My favorite dish I tried! Savory mushrooms with the sweet cream and crunchy top. I honestly didn't know what I was eating, but I could not stop until it was gone! -Dessert was recommended to us by the owner - a sweet coconut cream pastry. Again, I wasn't too sure what I was eating, but this dessert was a delectable bite from beginning to end. We really enjoyed our time and thank Mo for the wonderful recommendations, service, and above all, the delicious food! We will be back!

Would definitely pass on the butternut squash pizza and hodo tofu brochettes. The bread basket was fine, the butter was a bit interesting with corn, miso, and honey flavors. It's served with a side of housemade chips. The rueben was large enough that I was full eating just half and got the rest to go. After finishing my meal, I also got an oat cappuccino for an afternoon pick me up and was happy to have a boost of caffeine. The espresso was surprisingly good for a restaurant coffee bar. Thankfully, Jalebi Street knocked this out of the park. Now, just add makki di roti and I'll be back every weekend! * Vada pav (5/5): To be honest, I'm not the biggest vada pav fanatic, but this is probably the best one I've had outside of India. * Onion kachori (3/5): Good, but nothing to write home about. To be honest, it was a little too spicy, even for me. * Mango lassi (4/5): Not too sweet, with just the right amount of tartness. * Masala soda (4/5): Why is this such a rarity at Indian restaurants in the US when every place back home has this on the menu? It was delicious, but way too expensive (almost 8 bucks). We are definitely going to be back, especially since we committed the cardinal sin of not trying the jalebi at Jalebi Street.

Bought my tix online and waited for the day to arrive. I included the offspring and +1 for the event. Got there early and found parking basically in front, a miracle in SF. Doors opened at 5:02 and we were greeted by the chef and staff all dressed in green like the Jolly Giant of commercial fame. The tables were decorated with flowers sprouting from funny shaped radish and turnip "pots". Did I mention that the dinners have been called whimsical......... So it begins. We got two juice pairings and two alcohol pairings and both were really interesting. The local Chardonnay on lees and the martini were winners in the alcohol category whereas celery ginger kombucha and citrus drink were rulers of the nonalcoholic category. Some refills were provided, yeah! First course - Miso celeriac soup with foraged herbs, walnut dill bread with kumquat jelly and chive butter. Rich and tasty soup with great bread though two smaller pieces would have been better than one large to enjoy the spreads. Second course - Lacto-fermented beets, roasted carrot, little jellies with spicy carrot salad and hummus. Everything was unique with interesting flavors and consistencies. Loved the little jellies made with agar and the carrot salad, Wow! Third course - Mushroom and beet pub pie over purple cauliflower béchamel. Amazingly flaky vegan puff pastry, don't know how they did that without butter. Filling was earthy and savory complemented well by the béchamel. Dessert - a selection of citrus based seasonal treats including chocolate, little cake balls, candied kumquats and aquafaba. Not just great for being vegan but actually a triumph. First time trying aquafaba and it really tasted like a light, neutral whipped cream. Big fan of the candied kumquats too. They even stuck a candle in the birthday girl's bowl and led the obligatory serenade. Overall a fun experience that reflects Alex Lauritzen's passion for vegetable based cuisine, taking it fully to the fine dining level but doing it with joy and whimsy. Staff and service were attentive. This was the eighth mushroom with dinners occurring once a month. They may also do pop up a La carte service but I'm not sure.
