We arrived around noon and were pleasantly surprised to find plenty of tables available. It's a nice sit-down restaurant with tablecloths and proper silverware, giving it a more upscale feel. The ambiance would also make it a great choice for date night. *** OUR PICKS *** MEAL FOR 2 ~ NON-VEG THALI ~ This included 2 samosas, chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, tadka dal, plain rice, butter naan (we substituted for garlic naan), raita, pickle, and a house dessert. Terrific value for the amount of food! SAMOSAS ~ Crispy, flaky crust with a flavorful curried filling. Delicious! 5/5 CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA ~ The sauce was rich and flavorful, but the chicken itself was a bit dry. Thankfully, the sauce helped, though I think using dark meat would keep it more moist. 3.5/5 CHICKEN TANDOORI ~ Served sizzling on a hot platter! The meat was surprisingly tender and juicy. While I thought it could have used a bit more seasoning, the accompanying sauces complemented it nicely. 4/5 TADKA DAL ~ Similar to a hearty curried, lentil soup/stew. It paired well with both the garlic naan and the rice. 4/5 GARLIC NAAN ~ We substituted this for the butter naan, and it was one of our favorite items. It went well with just about everything! 5/5 PICKLE - Very salty and quite sour, which wasn't to my taste. Fortunately, the other sauces more than made up for it. 1/5 HOUSE DESSERT - We were served a rice pudding flavored with cardamom. I appreciated that dessert was included with our meal, however it would have been nicer if we had each received our own bowl instead of sharing one with two spoons. The pudding was creamy and lightly sweetened, but the dominant flavor came from biting into whole cardamom seeds and other spices, making it less enjoyable for both of us. 3.5/5 To start, our server also brought out a few complimentary papadums with an assortment of dipping sauces, which was a nice touch. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. She checked on us several times, accommodated our naan substitution without an issue, and kept our water glasses filled without us having to ask. Overall, this was a solid lunch with generous portions and an excellent value. While a few dishes could use some improvement, the garlic naan, samosas, and great service were highlights. Was interested in what took over the old Rose Indian restaurant location. Pleasant surprise eating here tonight. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming and made suggestions to compliment order. Food was delicious. We received a free appetizer which was a basket of papadums. Can't say enough about the chili garlic naan bread. We were looking at new restaurants and were excited to see Timur open up on 9th We got the meal for two and it was a great meal overall. Portions could probably feed 3 or 4. We are big eaters and we had enough for leftovers The meal for two had all the popular dishes and they were all good. We got to try a bunch of food for $60. The naan tasted fresh and came out hot. I liked that the outside texture was hard but the inside was soft and chewy. The team/staff were friendly and asked for our feedback on their food. The chicken came out on a sizzling hot plate on a bed of onions. We were not going to eat here. We climbed out of an Uber here. We turned on Yelp and saw this was "new and hot ". The staff saw checking out the menu, and asked us come in. So we decided to give it a shot. Glad we did. We've eaten Indian food all over the world and we lived in Hong Kong and we ate it there a lot. This is on par of some of the best we've had. Everything was very fresh and had the right amount of spice. Breads are huge! Prices are reasonable, portions generous. Upscale setting with white table cloths and cloth napkins. The prices are not what you would expect from such a nice setting. Two of us chowed down for less than 40 bucks! The staff is excellent and cares about you having a good experience. We were strolling through the Inner Sunset looking for dinner when a friendly staff member lured us in with a sign for a free glass of wine and 20% off the bill for first-timers. I am so glad we took the bait! Atmosphere & Service The restaurant is clean, spacious, and feels a bit "dressy" with crisp white tablecloths and neatly set tables. However, I didn't feel out of place at all wearing a hoodie and jeans--the vibe is welcoming. The service was top-notch. Harsh and JD were incredibly friendly. Harsh, in particular, was enthusiastic and asked if we wanted to go the "experimental" route. We said yes, and he steered us toward dishes not commonly found in other Indian/Nepalese spots in SF. The Food * Timur Chaat: An incredible starter that blends cold and warm temperatures with crispy, smooth, and chewy textures. The flavors were amazing and set the stage for the meal. * Jhol Momos (Vegetarian): Harsh recommended the veggie over the chicken for more flavor, and he was right. They arrive piping hot in a savory, tomato-y broth with a steady, black-pepper level heat. It's the definition of a juicy comfort dish. * Chicken Hariyari: Super tender, juicy, and moist. The flavor profile is very unique and incredibly savory. It was great on its own, but even better when dipped in the Jhol Momo broth and topped with tamarind sauce. * Medu Vada: Grounded, seasoned white lentils fried into crispy donut shapes. Harsh taught us the proper way to eat it: cut into fourths, sprinkle with salt, dunk in sauce, and immediately follow with a spoon of sambar (vegetable soup). A fun and tasty experience. * Sizzling Brownie: For dessert, this is a hot plate of chocolate sauce, sliced almonds, and a brownie, topped with vanilla ice cream. Yeah another reviewer said run don't walk to get in here and I agree! My friend and I were just walking by and The waitperson beckoned us in. We weren't really looking for Indian/Nepalese food, but this is one of the best meals we've ever had! We got the samosa chaat, fried and steamed momos and some naan bread. Tasty Timur is a destination for us to take friends and relatives. They are always impressed! Excellent service and delicious food. We learned that the restaurant's name comes from the pepper used to flavor Nepalese dishes. Timur's menu offers cuisine from Nepal as well as the Indian dishes typically offered in South Asian restaurants. All are wonderful, the owner delightful. A complimentary rice pudding was delivered to the table for dessert. The ambiance is most pleasing with attractive decor and what we assume to be Nepalese music in the background. In a neighborhood with numerous East Asian and South Asian restaurants this one stands out as a truly fine option. Another plus is that the takeaway containers are just paper. No styrofoam waste! We were searching for authentic Indian food and lucked into Timur on 9th Avenue. It had fabulous food and a lovely ambience. Linen table cloths, nice quiet music, attentive wait staff, lots of happy people enjoying great food around us. Diners were able just to casually go up to the bar and order drinks which were handed to them immediately and added to the table's total bill. It was so relaxed and friendly but the clincher was the quality of the food. I had been looking for a great chaat to match one we had enjoyed in DC and we found it in Timur. So good! And generous to the point that we had food from several of our favorite main dishes to take home. Another plus was being able to specify the degree of spice one member of our party requested. Hidden gem! Just opened in the inner sunset. Everything we had from the naan to the various chaats was fantastic. All the vegan dishes we had were amazing. Coconut tofu, Tadka Dal were perfect. I rarely get truly excited about a new restaurant -- but this new Indian Nepali Malayali spot absolutely got me going. From the first bite, you can tell the food is made with care. Everything is flavorful and delicious, with spices that make you happy without burning your mouth. It's that perfect balance where you feel the warmth and complexity, but it never overwhelms. We started with the chicken momos -- slightly sweet, juicy, and totally mouthwatering. The sauce that comes with them is amazing and elevates the whole dish. The coconut curry with okra was milder, aromatic, with long strands of spices that make every bite interesting. Vegetarians, rejoice -- this one is a winner. Just an unexpectedly phenomenal experience are last night in San Francisco. I am late to readiness review as it was like 10 days ago, but I had it in my mind that I needed to write it because we had such a good experience there my girlfriend and I both love Indian food and this place had five stars, and it did for a reason. Our waiter/host was named Hash I believe although it's now been too long to remember his name exactly. But he was so wonderful and kind to us. The best thing he did was I asked him for advice on if we should get one thing or another and he definitively told us get this one dish it's gonna blow you away. He didn't use those words exactly but I really admire and appreciate when people working at a restaurant have enough of an opinion to really take pride in what is a great dish to recommend to people. We got a butter chicken and a coconut vegetable curry. But maybe to stand out where the Momos. The Nepalese dumplings I had been looking to try and Hash (or whatever his name was) told us to try a certain variety. He said we would not be disappointed and we were not. They were absolutely wonderfully delicious. Even when we got sat, we came in late and we were looking for a restaurant to eat at a lot of places were closed at around 9 PM in the sunset neighborhood. They brought us in and then sat us in a booth in the back very private very wonderful. Then at the end, they offered us this little dessert we hadn't ordered it. They just gave it to us to delight us and it was delicious. I don't live in San Francisco, but kind of wish I did just to be able to go to this restaurant more often and become a regular here. read more

Pretty cheeky to open a new Indian restaurant on a block with two others and one more a block away. But I can now see why because this one is by far the best. I went there with my husband and two friends, and everything was wonderful. We ordered a few too many creamy entrees, so we were stuffed and had a lot of leftovers - not a bad thing.
