Came back an hour later and he said the port was fine and it just needed to be resoldered so he only charged me $35. Great (I thought), an honest repair. A day later the charging port didn't work. So I took it back again. This time I had to refuse to pay another $99 (his new, seemingly random higher quote) because he already charged me $35 for a repair that didn't work. He said he'd charge me $75. I was mad, but had no choice...so I did it. Now I'm at $110 plus multiple trips (and 2 hours of wait time) for an $89 repair. But wait, it gets worse. I get home and a day later try to setup my phone again....now the Touch ID doesn't work anymore. It worked fine before. Now I had to go back AGAIN. This time he swore up and down it wasn't his fault. Obvious BS since it worked fine before he took it apart. He took the phone in the back room and came out with what he said was my screen, showing me the problem. It wasn't my screen...he made a big show of giving me a free 'brand new' screen "for my trouble". It wasn't a new screen...it was just my screen that he quickly repaired in the back after he broke it previously and then claimed it was a new one. It was all pretty obvious what was happening. This guy isn't good at phone repair. I also got ripped off because he failed the first time. Then I got lied to about something he had broken. No thanks...I'll drive a little further next time I need a repair. (the funny part? As i left, each time, he begged me for a good review online...sorry buddy. Clear tape held the thing together and made it usable. But this was not a long term solution. While I found A2 Phone Repair with some glowing reviews on Yelp, it was the recommendation from a fellow at the AT&T Store on Washtenaw which sealed the deal. A quick phone call confirmed the screen was in stock, and produced an estimate for the price of the job and how long it would take. Drop off was a breeze. The shop was clean and professional looking. As was the fellow behind the desk. The repair took just a little longer than promised, about three hours versus two, but that was no biggie. $140 for the whole thing was worth it for my kiddo to have a phone that looked as good as new... without the hassle of setting up a new phone.
