I was almost half an hour early. But I was able to be seen right away. I had an eye exam which was easy. Then I was shown where to look for glasses and then the person explained the choices I had for glasses and lenses options. I bought sun glasses which are also prescription so she explained the difference in lenses coloring and shading options. I also bought a regular pair of prescription glasses. I picked up my glasses and I'm very satisfied with my glasses. They fit correctly and feel comfortable on my face. And of course I can see much clearer now! read more

I had a wonderful experience at this location! This is the only glasses place that I've been to that has several glasses that I liked! Also they had many options for bigger lensed frames that were actually fashionable, and that's so hard to find! In addition to this the customer service was phenomenal! Lupita was an absolute super star! She took such great care of me and really went above and beyond! She helped me get the best pricing for my glasses and she even fixed the broken ones that I came in with!! I have only been in Portland a few years and I can honestly say the customer service has been subpar.. but Lupita truly replaced my faith in humanity here! I bought my brother glasses for his birthday online from Stanton optical. We received a confirmation email that said it would likely take 7-14 days to receive the glasses. We never received a shipment email and they didn't come in that time period. We called the customer service number from the email and they couldn't find our order number. Since ordering, we called them seven times and just today got hung up on both times! They don't have our order number, never made a "dispute ticket" or whatever they made up like they said they would. We would get out on hold and transfered to "corporate office" only for them to have no idea what was going on either. Today they were lying to us about seeing our order in the system but when I asked them details about the order, they didn't have the order number, address, or correct price. Absolutely wild that the person helping me was literally lying to me. Then she hung up on me. I worked in customer service for years so I always try to be understanding as I know it isn't often the person on the phones fault, but this was different. They actively lied to us and gave us the run around for week. I'm so upset and today I had to call my bank to resolve this. I had rated them 4 stars a few years ago, but I'm officially changing it!! My family was in an emergency situation where we needed glasses ASAP and we were told: We MIGHT be able to make the lenses in house today, but I won't know until I plug it into the computer, and I can't plug it into the computer until you agree to do this and PAY upright. So, desperate, we payed and after he put our information in the computer it said the lenses would be made in Florida and we wouldn't get them until at least 14 days later. If this is the way the company functions, it needs an overhaul immediately. It's absolutely asinine that you can't get information without paying upfront. Lens crafters helped immediately and was surprised when we told them what we dealt with at Stanton. When we tried to cancel the order to Florida we were asked to never come back. Classy. read more

I broke the bow off my glasses while at work one evening and I thought I would just stop in and hopefully get them fix. The part where the bow screws in to the frame was fine so I was thinking they could replace the bow. They told me that it had been two years since I had been in and wanted to charge me $85 to replace the bow. That's more then I paid for the glasses. I told them I couldn't afford that right now so she took scotch tape off the desk and taped the bow back on to the frame. A better way to handle the situation would have been, standing by their product and helping me fix my frames with more then scotch tape and then suggest I come in for a new exam and get new glasses because mine were two years old. Stanton Optical has perfected the art of ensuring you know without a shadow of doubt that you are only a source of money and not a human being. Once I was checked in by the counter person who was eager to get back to chatting with coworkers they usher me into the exam room, sit me down, move the standard eye testing machine into place & ask, can you see through this? Yes Cool, she leaves the room and a television on the wall pops on with a dude in a cubical wearing a white lab coat and a telemarketers headset saying he's my eye doctor... um, excuse me, what? Yep, he operates the machine remotely asking questions as though reading down a list. If I have a question, it totally throws him off his routine and, well, it was awkward, impersonal and a little demeaning. When the eye machine needed to be adjusted he had to hit a buzzer to notify the same apathetic staff member to help me. She couldn't get out of the room fast enough. After the exam, the staffer takes me to the show room, I pic some frames (FYI, the $59 frames consist of about 6 options for men and they all suck), she pulls out this document, circles a couple things, moves the pen around, talks super fast and says your total is $795. Yep, I went in for $59 for 2 and was hit with $795. The frames I actually chose were $95 for 2 so that was great, the prescription was $700!!!! She was flying through the presentation and was asking for my credit card and all I could do was laugh and say... nope. I felt like I was being scammed from the moment I walked in and this was the confirmation. I asked to pay for the eye exam so I could take my Rx to Costco and she called her manager over and within 15 seconds I was being offered the exact same thing for $300, that was easy and a decent price so I ordered them. But why all the runaround & bs with the huge price tag if the reality is they can provide glasses at a reasonable & affordable price? It took 14 days (Costco is 7) to come in and the product itself is decent but the experience was frustrating, belittling, 100% impersonal... just ridiculous. Not only will I never shop there again, I encourage anyone seeking their services to either go somewhere that will treat you like they respect and appreciate your business OR run their weird gamut and ask for a fat discount. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my son at 3:45 with (who I thought was) an optometrist. At 4:15 a woman did some pre-screening (which seemed normal practice). At 4:20 my 12 year old son and I were seated in an exam room with a video chat screen. No one, at any time, prior to the exam told us that it would be done remotely by a technician and not an optometrist or ophthalmologist. My son clearly needed new glasses. That's why I brought him. He was complaining of headaches. I was watching the exam through the computer which told the man exactly what to say to my son, as I heard him read it verbatim. I was confused- because his corrected vision w/ old glasses was 20/70 and the "new" exam got him to 20/60. I then was told that an optometrist would review the exam and then make corrections and they'd see if they worked out. A vital part of a proper eye exam involves a slit lamp. There was a lamp in the room, but the receptionist woman told me that the retinal photographs were sufficient and if my son really needed a slit lamp exam they'd refer him to another doctor. I asked for the qualifications of the man on the video screen. I was told he was a "refractionist". He was following a script on the screen which told him exactly what to say and what to press. His english was difficult to understand and he had to repeat his questions more than once because the connection blipped. I had no knowledge that this would be a remote examination and was clearly inferior to an in person exam. This exam option may be right for some people- but needs to be clearly articulated- well before you're sitting in an examination room chair. read more

What a screwed up place. This place has the worst computer system. I provided my ID to the assistant to enter my information. A second assistant gave me a handheld device to enter "my information" !!! Why providing my information twice? But I said ok. To enter my Birthday at this device I had only the option to click back one month at a time. I asked the assistant if I do something wrong but she said the system let's me go back only one month at a time !! I am 49 years old and this means I had to click around 590 times on the month button to get to my birth month in 1969 !! WTF ??? I just left. I Don't have time for that nonsense. read more

Had a good overall experience here. I made an appointment online (for the next day!) to get an eye exam and inquire about the special they have clearly posted everywhere. Yes, it's technically correct and not even close to "just getting you into the store" as some people have said; 59.95 gets you two value frames and basic plastic lenses with no options or protection. This is probably fine for most people that just need it out of necessity. In fact, I was able to find two pairs of frames that looked more expensive than the price tag suggested! So, if you're a snob, then obviously you're going to pay more for frames (which you can get BOGO anyways!) Okay. So, there isn't a catch. The eye exam is technically free and you get frames and lenses for the $60. They will suggest (key word, not "force" you) the slightly more expensive but totally worth it package that includes UV coating, a warranty on frames and lenses, and the added perk of having a fashion tint (rose? Yes please!) or sunglass lens. They can't just give it away for free, people, that's not how it works. Tl;Dr they have a cheap and cheerful option for people that need it, and a premium option if you want it. The final price was what they said it would be, and, in fact, will tell you that all of the stuff included in the premium package are pricey options on their own. Again, you don't have to, but it's nice peace of mind! Naturally, if you have certain conditions or if you require progessive or bifocals, it's going to cost more. That's just how it is. But by how much? Not a lot, actually. It's realistic to stay at or under $200 if you stick with the value frames or the slightly but not much more expensive frames. But single lens? More affordable than I was expecting and I don't have vision coverage yet so it's great to spend under $100 for everything. (The final bill will show that you would have spent $500, but they discount it down to $99!!) I had a good experience here. The only thing I didn't care for really were the hard metal benches. Really?? You could have had modern seating without it feeling industrial! They are seriously uncomfortable and cold! Oh, also the optometrist is remote via a camera and console thing. It was weird at first but definitely efficient. No manually adjusting the lenses, all done electronically. Might not be for everyone. read more

I've been to Stanton Optical before and the Gresham location did great...it's been a year since then and the Clackamas location was closer to me so I figured why not. I went for my yearly exam...the gentleman on the phone when I scheduled said it would take 15 minutes for the exam. It took over and hour . I understood to a point as their system was crashing. However, some of the people there seemed to be all just learning how to work there (so it seems). I made the appointment on my lunch from work, but they took too long to even get me a trial pair so I had to go back to work with no contacts and no glasses One of the employees there told me they'd give me a discount when I returned for my trial lenses, but when I returned to pay for my exam and contracts I was not offered that. At this point there had been too many mistakes so I paid for the service and went about my day. Very unprofessional, and unorganized. I went in on 2/18/22 for glasses after seeing the $79 for two pairs and same day turn around". They were so short staffed that I waited about an hour to go back and get the exam. The doctor was not in so the appointment was virtual. Nobody told me anything about the frames on the walls so I just walked around looking aesthetically at what I liked. After the exam they advised me their transaction iPad wasn't working so they couldn't do any type of financing above just taking half the cost up front. They had also upsold me on polycarbonite lenses that I just NEEDED to have as the plastic would be too straining for my eyes. They ended up getting the rx completely wrong when I went to pick them up a week laterAND found out my eyes can't use the $250 upcharged lenses and had to have them remade AGAIN on top of the rx needing to be adjusted AGAIN. Then went to pick up one of the 2 that were remade (only did one pair to make sure it worked before ordering both) and was told "well we are at a loss now so there's no refund on the previous lenses". Awesome! so it's over 2 months later now, I've got 1 of the 2 pairs I paid for and Stanton is doing nothing to compensate me on the $250 upcharge for specialized lenses I coudn't even use in the first place. Once I get the other pair, never coming back to Stanton considering $79 for 2 pairs same day is now $300 for 1 pair, the 2nd one keeps gettin delayed and maybe it'll all work out. In fact just checked today and they delayed it AGAIN until 5/2 mind you this pair was ordered on 3/15/22. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!! read more

I went to Stanton optical for an eye exam and to update my prescription for contacts. First off, I had to wait for a little over 40 min to be seen even though I had an appointment. Second, the woman who helped me was nice but very sick and coughing and sneezing everywhere. Third, my exam was given via video chat. A "doctor appeared on a screen in the room and spoke to me through a speaker. This made the exam quite confusing and less than thorough. Fourth, the doctor said nothing about the heath of my eyes, even though I know from previous eye doctors that I have a chronic but minor eye infection. And finally, the assistant told me they didn't have any sample contacts but they would call me when they had them. It's been 3 weeks and I still have heard nothing from them. So, I found a new eye doctor that is 10 min away which is excellent. I highly recommend that you go elsewhere unless you are really broke. It is cheaper at Stanton but you get what you pay for. read more

Even though I called to verify they will be a doctor available to do the exam, they assured me there will be but once I arrived the eye exam was NOT available to be done by an onsite optometrist, it is remote. Stanton Optical was a great experience for me. I needed new glasses and was visiting Portland for a few days. I called and was able to get in on a Sunday evening. I worked with Anna Clyde who is a valuable asset to the company. She provided great customer service and was friendly and helpful. They offer a special which was as advertised. There were upgrades and such offered but you actually can get 2 pairs of glasses with the exam for the price. I opted to take the special for my reading glasses and got an upgrade for my everyday pair. Even with transitions and a few other things it was still a very reasonable price. The reading glasses were available for pickup the following day. The other pair which had to be made off site were done within about 10 days and were shipped to me at no additional charge. I would recommend Stanton to anyone that needs glasses and will go back in the future myself. read more

Really wish no-s were an option. They boast 'free eye exam' online, on their windows, and when you call them: it's literally the first thing they say to answer their phone. THE EXAM IS NOT FREE: they claim it's illegal to not charge for medical services, yet they advertise this free service so proudly. After you pay for your exam, get your exam & Rx if needed: they corral you into their shown room which is 98% full of glasses that DO NOT COME WITH THEIR ADVERTISED PACKAGE . If you don't buy the glasses right then, you loose the price you paid for that 'free eye exam' to be credited towards the glasses. Basically they steamroll you before you can shop around. Overall dishonest advertising, and pressured staff made this a very unethical experience. read more

About 3 weeks ago my niece an myself went to location on 82nd Ave. We both needed to update our glasses. I was very impressed with the extra added care to follow covid recommendations. "I cannot see clearly now" If there ever is a company that needs to abide by a "transparency in healthcare pricing policy" it is these guys. I just came from an eye exam (excellent) but tried to buy a pair of glasses from them. It was like trying to buy a used car. I found frames on their BOGO offer and the deal turned out to be: 1 new set of frames, progressive lenses, and new lenses for my sunglasses that I bought from them (new frames) 3 weeks ago. $858.00; they wanted to charge me for using my own frames (which they sold me three weeks ago because mine broke and were out of warranty.) My response was WTF?. I then had them calculate a single pair of frames and progressive lenses: $438, still a lot of money but, OK. Then I handed them my vision insurance card which gives me $200 towards frames, and 25% off lenses, the price with insurance: $493. WTF? Why would insurance coverage make my out of pocket go up. Manager says: "Insurance ONLY applies to list prices." Even if that were the case, where are the list prices published? NOWHERE IN THE STORE DOES IT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT INSURANCE APPLYING ONLY TO "LIST PRICE". This is deceptive, deceptive, deceptive. I am going elsewhere. read more

I feel sorry for the two guys working there. They were understaffed and there's no legit optometrist working. He talks to you through a shitty tv with even shittier speakers. The screen kept cutting out and his ones and two were shit and the machine was slow. So nothing matched up. I tried to tell him through his monitor, but he disregarded (or maybe couldn't hear)what I said. All the letters he showed me were the same... makes for easy memorization. I waited a good 45minutes to be seen. This establishment should not have walk-ins if you only have one room. There were 6 glasses to pick from for the $59.95 deal. They all looked like 70s coke dealer costume type of glasses, so if that's your thing... BUT that's just for the frames. your prescription on the other hand is quite a bit more. It was fine until I had to pick my glasses up. My glasses were not ready on time and I had to wait an additional week and a half. Never did get I a reason why they were late, a follow-up call to tell me to expect these late or did anyone even give me a simple apology. WHEN MY Glasses FINALLY did come in - I sat in the lobby and waited for 30Plus minutes while everyone else was helped around me. They knew I was waiting patiently.
