This is a very small bakery with only two main counter display cases and a window display case you have to kind of peer around once you're inside. The selection is a little limited, they had 4-5 varieties of paczkis, pineapple upside down cakes, a dozen cookie varieties, and some variations on strudels and kipfels. They also had some frozen perogies in a freezer you can take home and cook. The overall feel is a little disorganized and cluttered but the staff were friendly and made some helpful suggestions. Just be warned there is a service charge for credit card purchases. Food: Everything was overall fine but not spectacular. There was a clear home-cooked taste to everything (in a good way) but things kind of lacked creativity and polish to make it spectacular. We ended up getting a apple paczki, pineapple upside down cake, and some oatmeal cookies. The cookies had a nice clean toasty oatmeal flavor that let the raisins and cranberry shine through. Be warned they are crumbly-style cookies which are not my favorite but they aren't dry like many are. The paczki was fluffy and jam-packed with sweet apple filling which was good but it's texture is tougher than a regular jelly-filled donut if you've never had one. The pineapple upside down cake was pretty standard, tasted like boxed yellow cake with a slice of pineapple. Overall I enjoyed my snacks from this place but it's quality reminded me of a good bake sale rather than a professional bakery. I also am not a fan of the drier, crumblier, and tougher textures of polish baked goods but for that style, these are good versions of them. read more

Visited here for the first time. Drove to Northfield because I wanted to get a few paczki for the family. I didn't get there in time as Stan's was sold out for the day. The staff were friendly and helpful and informed me that more paczki would be available on Tuesday. I was there on a Saturday. I highly recommend that paczki be ordered ahead of time. Stan's is so good. Whenever I am home, I try to stop by and get a donut. That they are decorated in Cavs colors during the NBA finals (and perhaps the whole basketball season) is fun. My mom grew up down the street, and she has great stories about going to Stan's after elementary school across the street and middle school around the corner. I transferred to private school before middle school, but in elementary school I did one day a week at the middle school for the gifted program, and stopping at Stan's after school was the best. Nothing beats a Snapple and a cookie when you are a kid! We've bought so many family cakes here, including the cake for my brother and sister-in-law's rehearsal dinner in Dayton. And it wouldn't be the Memorial Day parade without waiting in line for a donut! The customer service here is excellent. Cash is preferred here, but I think it is possible to pay with a credit card. read more

I usually rely on a west side baker for all my cakes, but thought I would try a new place. My standards are pretty high so I don't usually expect bakeries to meet them. I took a chance ordering my daughter's 1st birthday smash cake, cupcakes, and frosted cookies from Stan's. Stan's stuck out, because I recently had one of their "Big Dupa" doughnuts...heaven on earth! The Big Dupa is a cassata doughnut, that I would rather have over cassata cake any day!This should be on every "Must Try" list in Cleveland. I gave the baker a picture of what I wanted (A bee hive cake/cupcakes) and Stan's exceeding my high standards ten fold! Not only did the bee hives come out exactly what I pictured, but even better. The next test was how it all tasted. This sealed the deal. The cake tasted moist and delicious! The frosting was sweet (which I like) and the cookies were the BEST! They reminded me of Osman's Pies in Hudson (long closed) they used to sell my favorite cookies. These are better! The other highlight, everything was reasonably priced. read more

I have been a customer of stan's Northfield bakery for a while now and decided to order my birthday cake from there this year. The cake was decorated beautifully but the cake was very overcooked and dry in comparison to the chocolate cake I have had from Stan's numerous times before. I called to ask what the bakery could do and was met with an extremely hostile and rude woman on the phone who basically told me there was nothing they could do and that's how the cake always was. Im only rating the doughnuts. My daughter brought me a dozen doughnuts. I was very disappointed in them. As a home baker I know when a doughnut is tough, the dough has been either mixed or kneaded too much. When a doughnut is dry, its lacking in fat. I love doughnuts, I can never eat just one. I did eat two of these but when I realized how not good they were, I finished them anyway although it was hard to get them down and the rest are sitting on my counter uneaten. An area institution. Stan's is THE PLACE to go for a birthday cake. It'll look great AND taste great. If you've been to a bunch of kids birthday parties, you've had that tastless, sugary "bakery cake". An eastern european bakery, they make great nut and poppy rolls. Very solid bread. For me though, Stan's is all about doughnuts and pierogies. Perfect cake doughnuts! The pierogies are in the freezer case, mostly just the typical potato & cheese variety, nothing exotic. My only knock is on the cookies. Enticing-looking cookies (big, pretty decoration), but not as tasty as they look. The smaller cookies (like on their cookie trays), I like though. Oh, and the Kolachy are great too. If you're a local, and get your cake from Walmart or Giant Eagle, shame on you! read more

I saw cute little Danish and bought one of each flavor @ 1$ each. When I got home and tried the cheese, I could not believe what I saw. The inside cheese was hard as a rock, odd smell and the pastry smelled like old grease and coconut. Each Danish was worse than the one before. They were old and rotten. The cashier was not a bit friendly, the rotten old bakery is expensive, nut roll has very little nuts. I threw all the pastry away. It was a rip off. I called owner, suggested I bring back bad food. She knows she is selling old rotten pastry. She obviously needs the money more than I do. I try to shop small business. I can't get the rotten taste out of my mouth. Disgraceful! read more

We started going to Stan's Bakery about 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure it's been around much longer than that which is a sign they've been doing something right. It's fairly cramped inside, but you're simply there to pick up some bakery and go, so no need for any ambiance. They have fantastic kolackys (apricot and cheese-filled are awesome), an assortment of donuts, cookies, and pies. They're also known for their pierogis, which have won awards over the last decade. But to me -- Stan's will always be about the bakery -- second only to Mom's! read more

I cannot believe that Stan's has not been reviewed more. It has been around the Sagamore Hills/ Macedonia area forever and absolutely rocks the Polish baked goods. Homemade donuts (cake, fry and paczki, polish style, filled donuts very prevalent around lent), kolaczki, loaf bread, cream horns and decorated cookies. I bring donuts to work or family outings from here and you would think I was giving away stock in Google. The best item, IMO is the kolaczki, a flaky filled cookie. They have several varieties and styles. They also make awesome pierogies you can buy from the freezer. They have several varieties beyond the typical potato and cheese. No need to boil, just thaw and sautee in a little butter. Around the holidays, they order in kielbasi (smoked and fresh) that is rock star quality. I have never had the custom made cakes, but they have photos on display (beautiful) and I can only imagine that they taste great based on the other baked goods I have had from Stan's. You know that Stan's is the real deal because around the holidays it is slammed, big lines, custom orders, the works. Did I mention they have a killer half and half nut/poppy roll? One side nut, the other poppy, the best of both worlds. They will give you the icing on the side so you can ice it just before serving to retain the proper texture of the roll. Stan's is great. A real bakery, cranking out real baked goods, using real ingredients and no preservatives. I have never had a bad item. My dad's side of the family is Polish and I had a Polish grandmother. I know my Polish baked goods and I can tell you that Stan's is not only a good Polish bakery, it is a good everything bakery. It is down to earth and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Whenever I bring Stan's to any gathering, people invariably ask where I got it. The place is family operated and they are always friendly and efficient. Stan's is one of the true gems in Northfield. They used to be cash only, but if I am not mistaken they may have recently started accepting plastic. read more

The place needs a facelift. I bought $80 worth of treats for Christmas. The only good item was the nut roll. The cookies all tasted blah -- no flavor, probably made with lard. Stan's has the best Kolaczki and Paczki (this is the correct spelling, people) in the area, at least on the east side. All the Slavic Village shops closed down which is rather sad. You have to drive 1/2 hour out to Northfield to get them but it could be worse. Small little place thats been at this corner since 1961. In July of 1961, Stan's Northfield Bakery was established by Stanley, Helen, and their son David. Everything is made from scratch. They feature at least a dozen varieties of Paczki and they are frequently featured in area Best off lists. The apple, apricot and raspberry are exceptional. They cost about 1.50 each. Quick note on how to heat pieorgi: They are sold in a package of about a dozen. Heat a pan of boiling water but not a rapid boil. Place the pierogi in the boiling water briefly until they float to the top. Remove immediately with a slotted spoon. Bathe in melted butter and plate. Do not pan fry them, do not deep fry them. read more
