Bob will tell you what needs to be done and what dose not I one time had a light in my headlight go out that he had fixed a week after he got me a better blub ad did not charge me for the new one. I recently had my car parked in his lot for two days when after he closed some hit it and left a pretty big dent , I called to ask him if he knew what happened while he did not he did do something unexpected he fixed it and bought paint that matched my car on his dime and apologized. He'll charge you quite a bit for not much work and speak to you in quite an annoyed tone if you start asking questions on the progress. Didn't really get the job done correctly either on my steering component. More of a half-assed temporary job as it turns out. There are better options around the area than this place.

At first, I resisted, since it's quite a trek, but when I started experiencing jerky shifting issues and didn't trust the Jeep dealer where I bought it to know what was wrong, I realized I needed to take it to a shop that knew VW's. I haven't had my car back long enough to know if it still has issues, but after being told at Aamco that the transmission was shot and by my dealer that there was no problem at all, I realized I needed an opinion from someone who actually knew what he was talking about. Enter Greg, the "Volkswagen genius." His solution was to try new fluid and an air filter. He explained that changing the fluid is costly, but will also give him a chance to open the pan and see if there were any clutch bits or other noticeable problems with the transmission. Just from the way they explained things to me, I could tell they know their stuff. I left my car on a Thursday afternoon without an appointment, and they fit me in for the service on the next day. German cars are deliberately confusing and designed to be impossible to diagnose yourself, so I strongly recommend you take your car Greg. I'm going to make the trip to Natick from Somerville, even for oil changes, because I know they are thorough, honest, and will give my car the best car possible. Also, Greg runs a gun shop next door, which is kind of a trip.

I had one day free before some doctor's appointments, and dreaded trying to get someone to look at my car on short notice, since we have no other car. However, Brian's is nearby, with a good reputation locally, so I drove there when it opened. Despite being booked solid with other work, he took the car in, removed a broken and hanging heat shield from a place where it's not really necessary on a 15-year-old car, charged me nothing, and I was home 20 minutes after I left. It seems clear why they have such a great reputation, and now have a new regular customer. Warm and friendly people, prompt and courteous service, saved me a lot of trouble.

With its old mill buildings and depressed-but-still-trying downtown shopping area, little Maynard was once on the brink of wild prosperity during the 1980s when computer manufacturer Digital Equipment Corporation was pouring jobs and cash into the area like a high-tech fire hose. But sales of the company's profitable mainframes dwindled after it failed to successfully transition to personal computers, and it quietly expired in the late 1990s. You won't find them on Twitter or Facebook: Shorette's is a small garage right out of the 1960s, with prices to match. The dimly-lit "customer waiting area" is crammed with dust-covered displays of fan belts, replacement gas caps, and carburetor gasket kits. The owner/operator and his elderly father have run the place for ages, and there is an archetypal "back room" behind the counter where they hang out and play cards or do whatever old time garage guys do. I paid what I consider pre-War prices for a brake job, and business was brisk when I stopped by. Apparently word has gotten around that you can still get this kind of "No BS - done right the first time" service if you're willing to go out to Maynard for it.
