My 24 year old fridge stopped cooling New Year's Day, so I called Stanley's at 7:30 AM the following morning expecting to leave a message and Ken answered the phone. I described my symptoms, he diagnosed it as one of two possible bad parts. One part had been discontinued 5 years earlier, the other was still available. He advised the minimum service call would be $80, a potential repair replacing a part about $180, and reminded me of the age of the fridge. I had a 50/50 shot at repair, the fridge is a very unique size and will take time to source a replacement, so I asked him to come out. With the fridge filled to the brim with holiday food warming fast, Beth shuffled the schedule that morning to accommodate us, and Ken arrived before noon. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the cold control which is no longer available, but he worked with it, and managed to get the fridge running. He advised the part still needs to be replaced, stated the fridge may run for 2 hours or 2 years, and charged the minimum service call, an outcome as good as I could expect given the situation. Three days later, the fridge runs like a champ. I realize I am on borrowed time, but I am able to make plans for replacement without being under the gun. My $80 was very well spent with a company that was honest, up front, and understanding. I chose Stanley's because of their reputation and reviews on Angie's list, nice to know companies like this still exist. Thank you, Ken and Beth. read more
