Knowing that we just found out we were pregnant and I didn't want to travel back to NYC to see my OBGYN, I had to decide where I wanted to go. I asked around - in all different FB groups and read reviews like crazy. EVERYONE recommended DEL VAL! I also had a friend of the family, who just had her 2nd baby say that she WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE. So I decided to give DELVAL a chance and boy was I impressed. It takes a lot to impress me as my sister is an OBGYN herself and I hear a lot from her... but I was blown away. First of all, the office staff! And I need to be specific because there is someone in particular who has literally made my day every single time I have been in the office.. GINA! She has been nothing shy of amazing! If there was any issue at all with scheduling or time she would do everything possible to make sure I was taken care of. She is kind, friendly and patient and deserves a RAISE! I feel like she's my OBGYN Mom now :) I have 2 weeks to go before baby arrives and I'm going to miss seeing her all the time. Jenna has also been super super nice and friendly to me each time I have seen her. I actually wasn't feeling well last week at my checkup for 37 weeks and she made me feel very comfortable and relaxed and reassured me that she was right outside if I needed anything and to just yell for her and she would come running. (I was dizzy and lightheaded) Last but not least - the Doctors! AMAZING! I have chosen to not see any of the midwives and have just been seen by Doctors and EVERY SINGLE ONE has been amazing! I made sure throughout my entire pregnancy that I got to see each Doctor and spent a little time with them. I COULD NOT be more pleased. Dr. Ung & Dr. Gamburg I have seen the most because from day 1 I felt so at ease with them. They have been my go-to doctors and have always made me feel I was in the best hands. Dr. Proctor is the sweetest doctor ever. She came in and spoke to me "woman to woman" with no BS attached and being a New Yorker..I appreciated it that. She was so down to earth and easy to talk to. Every doctor's bed side manner was perfect! I have never looked forward to going to the OBGYN office and thanks to DELVAL - I do now. If you are going anywhere else and are unhappy - leave and come here... if your looking around like I did... and considering DELVAL? Don't hesitate. Nothing bad to say about this office and this staff and team of Doctors! xox Melissa Pistilli

This was supposed to be a routine preventive exam, which under my insurance does not require a copay. During the appointment, the doctor asked if I had any concerns since my last visit. I answered honestly, assuming that was a normal part of an annual checkup. At no point was I told that responding to that question could result in an additional charge. Only later did I find out that my visit had been expanded and billed in a way that generated a fee. If discussing concerns during an annual exam leads to extra charges, patients should be clearly informed beforehand so they can decide how to proceed. Given the recent issues involving Dr. Pierce and the office, this kind of billing practice raises additional concerns about transparency and trust. Patients deserve clear communication not unexpected charges after the fact. Transparency matters. Patients shouldn't be surprised with unexpected charges for simply answering their doctor's questions during what is supposed to be a covered annual visit.

I recently had a issue with a cancelation of my appointment after waiting for 5 months. When I got upset about them wanting me to wait until August for another appointment, I received a call from the office manager. Although she did try to accommodate me, all she did was belittle me and try to make me feel subhuman. To add insult to injury, today, I received a letter from his office stating that I was "inappropriate" with his office staff. I asked the doctor to call me to discuss his manager's attitude toward me, before he sent the letter. I still have not heard from him. Do not waste your time with this guy. It's not worth your time and aggravation to deal with people who treat you like crap.

Dr. Jiang is the great-EST, but everyone is fantastic. I am currently pregnant with my first and I couldn't have survived (mentally!) without this practice and their wonderful staff. They are truly caring, patient and kind indivduals, from the nurses to the receptionists and schedulers and doctors. They are easy to get appointments with and there is someone in the practice with knowledge in everything and anything you need. I never feel stupid asking questions and they are very responsive with lab test results. My only complaint would be that when you call -you won't speak with anyone. You can leave a VM on the nurse line or on the schedule line, but you leave a message and someone calls you back. Sometimes in hours, othertimes it can be a day and I have sometimes had to call again and leave a second message. I will say their after hours line and care is AMAZING. I had to call one Sunday morning and I spoke to a live person and had a call back from the on call doc in less than 15 mins. If you are looking for a quality OBGYN in the NE Suburbs, i highly recommend them.

I had a very intense and fast labor and they were with me every step of the way. My first birth experience was very long and horrible in a hospital setting. Throughout my journey I appreciated their patient education, empowerment, and support so I could make informed decisions about my care. I like that my prenatal visits were longer than I could expect with an ob and that they provided a binder for me to bring with assigned homework each visit. Rather than having a "birth plan" (because they usually don't go as planned anyway) we were encouraged to think about our hopes and dreams. Everyone I've met here from the nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, the clinical director, etc. have all been wonderful to me and if I could do it all over again I would have become a patient here sooner. I had many questions along the way so I'm going to be detailed here so others may know what to expect. Before you can become a patient here you have to attend a seminar to learn more about their midwifery model of care, the differences between a birth in their suites vs. at Bryn Mawr Hospital nearby (you can plan to deliver there or there may be reasons you are transferred there the day of, the nurse midwife on call has the clearance to deliver there), postpartum care, and next steps to become a patient. After attending the seminar, I had to sign a medical release forms to have my records transferred from my previous provider before I could schedule any appointments. They have two locations (Bryn Mawr and South Philly) and prenatal visits could be with the same provider or different providers. The first prenatal visit is longer and billed separately while the rest of the appointments are billed to insurance together under their global plan after delivery (not after each appointment). During my regular prenatal visits they measured my fundal height and would feel my bump for the baby's position while estimating weight (they were pretty good at that)! I had to pay for lab tests and non-stress tests separately. While I had to do my formal ultrasounds elsewhere, they had the equipment to do informal ultrasounds just to check on the health of the baby and seemed to be training their staff to do these more. I was required to schedule several classes to prepare for childbirth (series of 4 classes), about lactation essentials, and about navigating your first days at home after birth. The instructors really encourage asking questions and participation, so it was helpful to have this intimate space for that. The dates and cost of these classes are available on their site but you can't schedule them until you're confirmed as a patient. After your delivery they will follow up with you (home visit if you delivered at the birth center or phone call if you delivered at the hospital). There will be a 6-weeks postpartum visit to examine you and make sure your body is recovering but also to check on your mental health (so necessary and important)! They also have weekly lactation support and new parent support groups that were happening on Zoom, I think they are also now offering in-person options too. I could tell from the session I went to that the other families really found this space helpful and were wanting to offer encouragement to newer parents like me while sharing about their knowledge/experience. Cara, one of the lactation consultants, facilitates the virtual groups and is amazing! I hope all this information helps anyone who is considering becoming a Lifecycle patient because the last thing a pregnant woman should have to worry about is the quality of care she is receiving.

While on the phone, I asked if there was any…read moreway that I, a 33-year-old woman, could gain more insight into my currently fertility status so that I would know whether my boyfriend and I should start to think about having children sooner rather than later. The receptionist put me on the phone with the nurse practitioner, who said that they could do bloodwork to determine that sort of thing. I made an appointment for May to come in and get blood work done. I came to my appointment in May, checked in, had my weight and blood pressure taken (which I assumed was being done before bloodwork), and then spoke to the nurse/doctor (not sure what her status was). This person then told me that they do not do bloodwork there, and that they do not even do any kind of fertility testing unless you are 35-years-old or older and have been trying to get pregnant for about 5 months. I explained that if I had known that, I would not have made the appointment, especially since my annual appointment is coming up anyway. Our entire conversation only lasted a few minutes (I think that the only other question she asked me was if my cycle was normal). On my way out, I explained to the receptionist that there had been a misunderstanding, and that I would not have made the appointment if I had known that they would NOT be taking bloodwork. I said that I did not think I should be charged for this appointment. The receptionist said that someone would follow up with me. Someone reached out to follow up with me, and I explained the situation. They said that the appointment would still be billed as a consult. I strongly disagreed with this decision, as again, I would not have even made the appointment if I had known they would not be doing the bloodwork that I was told would be done. The person on the phone refused to not bill me, since my vitals were taken during the appointment and a brief conversation - a "consult" - occurred during the appointment as well. She also said that if I had gone to my annual and asked any questions relating to my fertility, that would have been billed as an additional consult rather than just my annual exam. This sounds absurd - I'm not supposed to ask any questions relating to my reproductive health/status during my annual, other than questions relating to what they are doing in that exact moment? I feel like this would be the equivalent of going to the dentist for a teeth cleaning, and not being allowed to mention tooth sensitivity without being billed for two appointments. I am extremely disappointed in the miscommunication that occurred on Athena's end and their refusal to rectify the situation. I am now going to be charged over $100 for an appointment that consisted of taking my weight and blood pressure and informing me that they would NOT be taking the bloodwork which was the sole reason I had scheduled the appointment in the first place. I took off some time from work to make this appointment, and the whole situation is extremely frustrating. It's clear that Athena cares more about making money than their patient's wellbeing. I am hoping to find a different doctor, as I no longer trust that they prioritize patient care. My co-workers, who have the same insurance as me, have had similar frustrating experiences. We are all looking for a new doctor who accepts Aetna insurance. I hope this post can save someone else the headache that I went through.
