AJP Electric - My staff!

AJP Electric

Josh and his team updated my whole house last week in preparation for sale. They upgraded all my…read moreoutlets and switches, replaced fixtures in my drop ceilings to new LED units, installed GFCI's, replaced ballasts in the fluorescent fixtures I kept, and troubleshooted my pool filter, which previously had been tripping the breaker far too often. Josh's estimate was very reasonable, and when compared to another estimate I got, it was a no brainer who'd get the job. Even though I ended up adding more work once they were here, the increase in expense was handled with fairness. All this work was done by two electricians each day over the course of one afternoon and one morning. Everyone (Ryan, Tyler, and Tyler) was very professional, efficient, polite, and conscientious. They answered all my questions with confidence and clear knowledge, offered suggestions when I had a choice to make, and cleaned up before leaving each day. They took notes on what needed to be done on their return after the weekend, and came prepared. I also appreciated that I got text messages alerting me of the appointment and that they were on the way, and I liked that Josh emailed me the estimate and final invoice, and secure payment was done right through the email with a simple withdrawal from my checking account. Josh was responsive in getting back to me, from requesting a quote, to follow up after the work was complete. Like most things done to help a house sale, I wish I'd gotten it done sooner so I could enjoy it longer! I'd recommend AJP for any electrical work needed.

Steve is a former landscape business owner turned service business so he absolutely understands the market and the need for the services he offers. He is not only very knowledgeable and experienced in his field but he is also exceptionally honest and approaches every job with an individualized and detail oriented approach. Very impressed by the work he's done for me so far and looking forward to sending him some more, even though it seems he has more than enough to keep him busy, Pricing is reasonable and Steve and family are super friendly, happy to support a local business at the most basic level. Highly recommended, 5 stars!

This is a residential backyard, it is not a shop, it's an old mower junkyard. I described how my…read moreblades hit and were destroyed, twice. I asked him to diagnose the issue. He removed the hood, criticizing my loose brackets with missing bolts. I was told I needed new blades. He said ordered parts might take a week or more, and how it would speed things up if I provided blades, insisting I get "OEM". I guess he couldn't be bothered to do it himself. That same day I got OEM blades at Tractor Supply, watching as he check-fit one. He gloriously replied "They don't fit". He offered no advice, never looked further, just repeated "they don't fit". Told me to go to a dealer to get blades. Tractor Supply is a dealer, their parts are OEM, also printed on the packaging. I returned the blades to TS, saying the mechanic said they don't fit, TS employee replied it is probably because of the paint and gave me a different set. Steve did another quick fit, his broken-record response started again, "They don't fit". No investigating, just blamed the new OEM blades. He literally left me standing there as he left to deliver/pick up mowers, after which I decided to see why they were not fitting. I managed to get the blades to fit the spindles and tightened the nuts. I noticed the star-shaped lugs for the blades had rounded points, smeared and worn down from the earlier blade failures which hindered fitment. I also took the time to fix my hood brackets, something I'm sure he would not have done even after pointing it out and making fun of it my first visit. The brackets were loose because threaded holes were stripped and bolts fell out. I used bolts and nuts I found kicking around in the dirt to fix it. This "shop" had zero organization. Besides the yard full of years-old junked antiquated equipment, parts and pieces, his detached garage had no open space to work in, and why work was being done outside in the dirt. Junk, parts, bolts, nuts, sockets and tools were strewn everywhere, literally falling down and being kicked around and stepped on in the dirt and leaves. It was like navigating a children's playroom strewn with toys. Besides doing what he should have done to begin with, I felt I was doing Steve a favor. Even though I did everything myself, I still expected to pay something ($50-$100?). The blades were right, he just never bothered to diagnose the problem which is what I asked him to do in the first place, he did nothing except send me on wild goose chases for mower blades. I returned after the weekend to pick up my mower. He was sitting there doing nothing and sarcastically told me it was good to go pointing to my mower, I said really? He said no. I asked him what's wrong? Instead of telling me, he asked me to "start it up". When I engaged the PTO, the blades immediately clattered hitting each other, causing more damage. He sat there as if enjoying it all. What a piece of work, instead of telling me what was wrong, he'd rather see me do further damage. A decent mechanic would have found the problem by then and told me, whether he fixed it or not. After all, I spotted the problem almost immediately, even tried to tell him about it. Apparently, he wasn't happy because I worked on the mower myself. This was him getting his satisfaction vengeance by watching my disappointment of finding the problem has not been fixed. He then asked me if I thought it is okay to go into a shop and start working on my mower myself. I apologized and explained why I did it. After the way I had been jerked around as a customer and his lax ways, with no other mechanic around, seeing him do nothing but shuttle mowers, I figured it wasn't a big problem, I didn't mind. I was trying to get my mower fixed so I didn't have to wait a month for some other shop to fix it and/or wait on ordered parts. I know quite a lot about mower repairs and why I had no problem doing what I did. I just didn't want to mess with it and why I brought it to this hole. All the time I was there, I only saw Steve trailer mowers around in his beat-up truck using a landscape trailer with no working taillights. I was there 4 different times 2 of which he sent me on wild goose chases to get blades. It didn't bother me that Steve smoked, has no personality and is not friendly or even that work is performed in the dirt of his backyard. What ended up bothering me was his lack of professionalism and customer care. The experience left me so disgusted, it motivated me to do my own repair. After dropping the deck and doing an inspection, I quickly confirmed the problem was the star-shaped blade lug on the spindles. I was able to order everything from Amazon. The mistake I made was going to a lazy mechanic that couldn't or wouldn't diagnose the real problem, so I did it myself. Never again. Do your research before picking this place. No wonder there was no waiting for an appointment like there was for all the other reputable shops I tried calling first.

We called about 5 times requesting to speak to someone and Cannondale just sent us a contract in the mail without ever returning our call. During the crazy storm in August of 2020, many people in our town couldn't reach Cannondale to fix their generators. We decided on A&J because of how communicative they were - they worked around the clock during that storm to help their customers. Since then, we've had nothing but positive experiences with A&J. Our generator is getting up there in age, so we had to have several service calls this year. We were able to immediately reach someone via phone and email. Each time they sent someone over quickly. One time, our generator stopped working overnight during a power outage. We called them at 5am and they had someone at our house by 7am. Soon after, they were able to replace the part and give our generator a bit more time as we navigate the process of obtaining a new generator. A&J educated us on the the changes in regulations, walked us through the many options out there, and helped us find a new spot for the generator without ruining the look of our property. They're taking care of all of the details, so the complex process is made completely effortless for us. Thus far, we're very happy with A&J.

We hired Handyman Suffield, Enfield, and Coventry for a full bathroom remodel through a referral /…read morescreening platform. The experience taught me several important lessons. Although the handyman local company had many positive reviews, none were for a full remodel -- only small repairs or generic statements. The estimate provided was vague and didn't specify plumbing, electrical work, or wall/ceiling prep, which I now realize are essential when converting a shower to a bathtub. I assumed the daily labor rate covered what was needed to complete the job. By day four of a six day estimate, it was clear they weren't equipped for the job. No plumber had been scheduled, forcing me to hire a same day plumber at a very expensive rate. I paid directly for this charge $2800. Basic installation steps were missed until I pointed them out, wall prep was sloppy, and the new floor was cut unevenly with visible gaps. A worker even used my household garbage can as a cutting table. The owner insisted there were numerous changes that delayed the project. The estimate said any changes to scope would follow a formal process that was never invoked once. I thought except for a couple of changes the others were implied under general work statements like "install tub." I stopped the project with handyman and hired licensed professionals, whose workmanship was significantly better. I spent an additional $9,400 to finish and correct the work. We also disagreed with Handyman on the monies owed -- they insisted four days of labor were owed, even though the project was nowhere near 4/6 complete. They side my additional costs were not relevant to what I owed them. Takeaway: Match the scope of your project to the contractor's skill set. A full bathroom remodel requires licensed trades and a detailed estimate. Before starting, use an AI tool describing your project and it lead you through the critical points. Once you select a contractor ask the AI tool how good a fit the selection is.
