The set for "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
Dante C.

I've never been disappointed. It's a SMALL theater, intimate, maybe 15 rows deep, 12 seats wide, not a bad seat in the house. I have visited Tampa several times over the span of a few years. I've seen a few productions there (see my pics for this year's "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"). You can hear every word, see every movement, feel every breath. Go, if you can find tickets. The theater is accessible by trolley (FREE! thank you, Tampa), but you'll need to walk a few blocks and cross a few streets (not far, unless you are older than me). If you get there early, there's a watering hole and a spumoni place nearby for before and/or after the show refreshment.

Hard to find, It wasn't clearly marked, but once inside, I was pleased! The lobby bar was neatly stocked, the restrooms were clean and well appointed. The theatre itself is intimate. Cozy even. And as another poster pointed out, the way it's set up, if you need a potty break, just wait for the break.. otherwise you are pretty much up on the stage with the actors and invading their space. We truly enjoyed the show we saw - a WIT IMPROV production - which was a fundraiser for our friend Billy Edwards. The best part of the night was Scott & Billy getting down to their underwear and walking blindfolded through a minefield of mouse traps all for the laughs of those who watched. Truly a bunch of masochistic souls - who do anything for a laugh!

What a great theater. Intimate feeling, small so you are close to the actors. I really enjoyed the play, "Miss", about a real event related to the struggle between a new Doctor at FDA and a powerful drug company interested more in profits than people's health.

Perfect little theater to see a local show. Theater is clean, seats are comfy, and the shows have all been great.

One of the few great theatre companies in Tampa. I was an intern for this theatre for 6 months, and every show I saw left me speechless.

I'm saddened at this time hearing that one of the stunt artists who had been with the group for 15 years has passed away due to his hand slipping on the rings. That is so unfortunate. I'm thankful for getting to see this show and right in Tampa. It was definitely a work of art!

We drove in to the lot and there were so many cones and far too many people with lights to move traffic. Cash is preferred but they do have the option to take a card using a smart phone plugin of some sort. Plan ahead and give yourself at least 30 minutes to park and then walk to the tent; only VIPs get to park nearby. The general seating is tight. You definitely don't have any personal space. BUT for those of you worried about it, concierge was offering seat upgrades for very minimal costs. We were able to upgrade to premium seating, with much more padding, arm rests, a cup holder, and probably a couple extra inches of space, for only $20 more per person. They offer concessions and accept credit cards or cash. The concessions are ridiculously overpriced but they do have a couple combos to save you money. Please be respectful of the rules: no flash photography; not only is it dangerous to distract the performers but it's also annoying to patrons watching the show. Don't be rude.

The building is absolutely beautiful and has almost 100 years of history. You can feel it the second you walk inside. Every room has a presence to it. The atmosphere is unlike anything else. It always feels full, even when it isn't. You're never really by yourself...;) The concessions are great, the staff is always friendly, and I love that they haven't tried to modernize away all the character. The little noises, the old floors, the way the building seems to settle around you during the movie just reminds you this place has seen generations of people come and go. I definitely will be back. I have a feeling something there is looking forward to seeing me again.

A Cinematic Masterpiece Before the Movie Even Begins…read more If you are looking for an unforgettable night out, the historic Tampa Theatre is an absolute must-visit. Calling it just a "movie theater" feels like a massive understatement - it is a breathtaking time capsule and a true architectural marvel that elevates the simple act of watching a film into a grand event. From the moment you step through the doors, you are transported into a spectacular, 1920s Mediterranean courtyard. The attention to detail inside the auditorium is stunning, offering an experience that modern multiplexes simply cannot replicate. Here is what makes it so incredibly special: * The Atmospheric Ceiling: You sit under a remarkably realistic night sky, complete with 99 twinkling stars and gently drifting clouds, making you feel like you are outdoors on a perfect evening. * The Architecture: The eclectic, opulent blend of Moorish, Spanish, and Byzantine details - surrounded by gargoyles, statues, and ornate balconies - gives the space a magical, almost surreal charm. * The Mighty Wurlitzer: Arriving early is a requirement! Hearing the historic theatre organ played live before the screenings perfectly captures the golden age of cinema. The programming is just as thoughtfully curated as the decor. Whether you are catching a brilliant independent film, a beloved cult classic, a documentary, or a live event, the venue makes every single screening feel momentous. Grab some popcorn, take in the gorgeous scenery, and enjoy the show. The Tampa Theatre is a meticulously preserved local treasure and truly one of the greatest places to spend an evening!
