Tried the pork knuckle here in Mainz to compare it to my favorite place in Munich. Very tasty and the gravy was a nice touch. Meat was moist and portion just right. Was there during happy hour and it was a steal. For a pork knuckle and 2 full beers for 14.50, it was a steal. Staff was friendly and food was quick.

What a great little German restaurant. I can't recommend this place enough. As a frequent traveler, restaurants like this can be a blessing. English menus, English speaking staff. Friendly service with a smile. The Stadhaus is great for small groups or the solo traveler. I was lucky enough to eat with a group of 10 people there - the staff was very accommodating and welcoming. They do not accept credit card so be aware it's Euros only. You can't beat the stadhaus.

This is a very quaint restaurant frequented by a lot of flight crews. So, to me, it does feel a bit touristy only because more than half the people there speaks English! If you don't mind that, the Stadhaus is a nice choice for schnitzel! I had the pork hock instead. The portion is big; It covered both my dinner and next day's lunch!! The potatoes that came with the hock were tasty. The hock though, was a bit on the dry side, but still tasted alright. They have outdoor seating when the weather is warm! Their prices are also reasonable. :)

Yummy cute spot near the Frankfurt central train station for local eats. Some reviews suggest it's…read moreclosed but it's just moved over a little while the main restaurant is under construction - check their website for the latest (they have details in English). Nice ambience and staff all speak English and are good at suggesting dishes to try! Beware portions are large - even by American standards!! My partner and I got 2 apps and a main to share and could not finish. We got the hand cheese music(?), beef sausage salad and a mushroom schnitzel. The schnitzel was by far the star of the show (as we should have expected)! The cheese is famous so we had to try it but sheep's cheese is a bit too strong for me and it had a harder texture than I prefer. My partner liked it though so I'd recommend giving it a shot if you're adventurous!! We also got their homemade lemonade which was a fizzy raspberry lemonade. Pretty good as well but wish I had tried one of their ciders!

They're trying to stick to the monastery beer vibe but it doesn't hit the mark in that regard. The old place was cozy and old and felt authentic, this place is new, loud and generic. Maybe it's not so bad and I'm sore because I miss the old place but it just doesn't feel the same. Service was good, food was good, beer cold but it still feels like every other place out there. Probably won't be back, unfortunately. If you like well lit, upscale, generic restaurants try this one out. The food is good but the ambience is off.

A no frills establishment serving up some fine German cuisine!…read more Inside is rustic and warm. The staff is standing behind the bar, waiting to greet you. And you're immediately sat at bench like accommodations. We had our dinner a bit early since we had just landed, but keep in mind during busier hours, you may have to share your table with another party. We ordered the spaetzle, the vegan schnitzel, a lemonade and an apple wine. It took a bit but everything (but the drinks) were delivered piping hot and generously portioned. The spaetzle itself was cheesy and tender, with a lovely pile of caramelized onions on top.The salad provided helped to cut through the richness. The apple wine was nice and tart. And for 3 euros they pour with a heavy hand! The vegan schitznel, could not tell it was vegan as all. Very similar to chicken, with a crisp outer shell. The herb sauce served on the side was a nice burst of freshness on an otherwise heavy dish. The staff was overall kind. Maybe a bit slow, but nothing to scoff at. The food was great, the alcohol was cheap. What better way to start off your German adventure?

I took a bus there so I can't comment on the parking situation in the area. Ambiance (4/5): From the outside, Atschel looks like a homey, traditional restaurant. Which is exactly what I was looking for when it cam to my first dining experience in Germany. There's a charming inside area with wooden walls as well as a patio area in the back. I sat inside. Drinks (4/5): Frankfurt is known for apelwein or apple wine. So when in Rome...I had the apelwein spritz which adds soda and Aperol. I will say that straight up apelwein is not my jam. It's nice to try while you're in Frankfurt, but it's too bitter and vinegar-ey for me. With that being said, when you mix it in with Aperol and soda, it's pretty solid. And if you're in a group, you can get the apelwein served in large stone mugs which is pretty cool. Outside of that, they have a lot of beer, as you would expect, and pretty much everything else. Service (4.5/5): I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and attentive the service was (which is typically not the norm in Europe). Our waitress checked on me, thanked me and said goodbye as I was leaving, and overall, did a great job. Food (4/5): Since this is a traditional German restaurant, I had to go with another Frankfurt specialty: Viener schitznel with green sauce. Schnitzel just means a thin cutlet (often pork) that is breaded. The green sauce is made from seven herbs and while it's a tad bit herb-ey for my taste, it was still interesting to try. The dish is served with fried potatoes. Filling and hearty as you would expect from a German meal. For my first meal in Germany, it was a great start to my trip.
