I went in for emergency care for a toothache in a molar when my regular dental office was often booked out and told me my insurance maxed out which I thought couldn't be correct as I didn't know dental insurance often had limits on what it will cover each year. Had to make multiple appointments and they were all close together. At Placerville Dental, the receptionist lady who handles billing told me that my insurance would fully cover it. A few months later, I received a surprise bill statement in the mail of nearly $1,000, apparently, I was lied to. I called asking why this happened. I was told it just took a while to verify with my insurance. Seems like a lame excuse. They said I had five cavities in my lower teeth. They numbed my entire lower jaw and did five fillings at once. Later, one of my premolars had a toothache. My regular dentist from Mather Field Dental recommended I get a root canal in that tooth and consult with an endodontist. The endodontist looked at my X-rays and said that the filling Placerville Dental placed in that tooth is right up against the nerve, irritating it. I got a root canal in the tooth that probably could have been avoided if the dentist at Placerville Dental did a better job. Placerville Dental did a cleaning and a non-surgical laser treatment in addition to a cleaning I got. As someone with health-related anxiety/OCD, this gave me the illusion that I was being given exceptional care. One of the times at Placerville Dental, when I expressed dental discomfort, the dentist dismissed me saying it was food on my teeth, which I did have as I didn't have time to brush my teeth properly beforehand. Yes, it's a good idea to clean your teeth right before dental appointments, but the dentist remarked that in such a way that it made me feel scolded. How rude. At one point, the dentist at Placerville Dental took X-rays and this time said the tooth with the toothache had irreversible pulpitis, but when I went to an emergency visit with my regular dentist, Dr. Tapang at Mather Field Dental, he took an X-ray and he also agreed that there was an infection in the tooth. He prescribed me a course of antibiotics and it made the toothache go away while Placerville Dental didn't do sh*t.

He chooses different foods for snacks, makes sure we brushes correctly and asks for help flossing. He had to get his first filling and they made him feel so comfortable, he did amazing! Then, I started having issues with the left side if my mouth. Dr. Little suggested crowns. My insurance allowance had already been used so, I scheduled my appointment for after the first of the year. I called ahead of time to find out how much I needed to pay out of pocket and was given the price. When I arrived for my appointment they informed me it would be an extra 100.00 on top of the almost 600.00 out of pocket that I came prepared to pay. Then I was told they wanted to start on the right side of my mouth (the side that has given me no trouble) once the tooth was drilled out and a temporary crown put on, I was then given a referral for a root canal in case the pain got worse while waiting for the permanent crown. Why wasn't this explained prior? We had already discussed that I didn't want to get a root canal. So, I go to schedule to put the permanent in and I'm told I'd have to wait until mid March (it takes 2 weeks for the tooth to come back) so they send me away with a repair kit "because it's likely my temporary will come out" I'm not saying the man shouldn't take a vacation but, his office shouldn't schedule treatments unless his availability allows him to finish the job. I complained enough and was seen a month later. The tooth with the crown is feeling better. But, the tooth next to it that he put a filling in hasn't stopped hurting. I'm living off of tylenol and motrin for some type of relief. All for a side if my mouth that wasn't bothering me to begin with! Meanwhile, I'm also still having the original issue with the left side of my mouth. So, I've made an appointment with a new dentist and I'll be stuck paying out of pocket since Littles office used my allowance on a crown I probably didn't need in the first place.

I live 2 hours away, and I was glad to make the drive, because there just aren't many dentists like him around anymore. I'd been told I needed a crown by a conventional dentist and immediately pushed into making an appointment to have a porcelain one done. Like any informed consumer, I did the research and found out that, in my case, a gold crown was the most durable and biocompatible alternative. This did not go over well with my conventional dentist, who told me that they didn't do gold crowns due to the "price of gold" (this would only make sense if a crown required an ounce, lol). This same dentist also kept trying to dissuade me from gold because of the "aesthetics." Really, my second molar from the back, bottom, is going to be an eyesore? Come on. I decided not to deal with that dentist and instead Googled "biological dentists." Luckily, Dr Roslund came up in a registry. Long story short, his staff did not bat an eye when I said I was looking to get a gold crown, and when I saw Dr. Roslund himself, he listed all my options, but was perfectly accommodating of my choice. The gold crown took a couple of visits, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Roslund also took out an adjacent mercury filling (safely, as that's what biological dentists do), and replaced it. Between the two procedures, my mouth felt better almost immediately. Unfortunately, dentists like my former conventional one seem to be the rule these days. Life's too short to deal with them if you have any interest in healthy alternatives. If you want to be treated with care and respect and have your dental work done safely (for you and your practitioner), Dr. Roslund and his staff are the ones to see.
